Red/Yellow/Green buttons now gray

Since 'upgrading' to Yosemite, the colored buttons on the upper left are now all gray on the Safari screen.  iTunes buttons are still colored, just not on Safari.  Please note that I am not in full screen mode:  the buttons are there, it's just that they are gray.  I've looked through Safari Preferences but can't find any way to fix this.
It's a small annoyance, but there are so many other small annoyances with Apple these days, I'm really not willing to put up with this one if there's a way to fix it.  Thanks for any help.
OSX Yosemite Version 10.10.1
Safari Version 8.0.2 (10600.2.5)

There is no way to modify the interface in Mac OS X without a third-party hack. I'm not sure if any of them work in Snow Leopard, though.
You can make everything a little bigger by lowering the resolution in the Display System Preferences.

  • How do I create a second set of red yellow green buttons for right handers

I've moved over from using a PC for years and still use one at work - so I've grown used to using my mouse for everything.
So, being right handed - I'm wondering how I can move or better yet create a second set of red yellow green buttons at the top right of each screen. It's a pain having to scroll from one corner to the other all the time.

Welcome to the forums Chiliad. It's rare that a question like yours is answered "you can't do that" but I've never heard of someone wanting to do this. OS X is robustly customizable right out of the box with its many different ways of accomplishing identical tasks, but I suspect the locations of these buttons is somewhat of an Apple trademark and rooted deep in OS X code. I would avoid trying to hack the system to change their location lest such a change cause a future OS X update to break.
There are many third party tools available to customize OS X to your liking, but I can recommend without reservation just a few. Products like Tinker Tool and the utilities written by Unsanity seem to be generally useful and trouble-free.
You can minimize a window by double-clicking anywhere in the title bar, but I find Exposé to be much more useful when managing multiple open windows. I've grown to use Apple-w to close and Apple-q to quit, but that's just me.
Seems to me the engineers at Apple have put an enormous amount of effort into designing an effortless user interface, which in my opinion rewards the user with an experience that doesn't get "in your face" as much as Windows does. It's hard for me to imagine improving upon it much, but there are plenty of others who try!

  • How to restore the red/yellow/green buttons in safari

There was a problem with my mousepad last night and it was sending the cursor all over the place. Its corrected itself now but something happened while it was doing this. I was trying to close down safari (and fighting with the cursor) and the bar at the top of safari disappeared. along with it went the red, yellow and green buttons.
I have no idea how to get them back. I have tried to customise the toolbar but thats not the solution.
when safari is in full screen i now have just the address bar and bookmarks bar.
I'd really like to restore these buttons and get the title bar (with file, view etc) back. To access those currently i have to hover the cursor at the top of the screen. Its very annoying not to be able to see the time, remaining battery etc.
If anyone has any suggestions i'd really appreciete it!
    Thanks

    Hello,
I Have exactely the same problem at you, ...
Have you got the solution now ?

The screenshot shows Ps in mode "Full Screen with Menus" which is what I was talking about at the beginning. If F key isn't cycling the modes then the lowest button on the Toolbar has a flyout for the three modes. Menu View > Screen Mode contains the three modes, too. Switch mode to Standard.
Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts will let you assign F or some other key to the modes if your setup somehow doesn't have these default shortcuts.

Hello I have somehow lost the red, yellow & green indicators in the top right screen in safari and also have lost the "goole glass" search in the top right hand corner of safar.  Help?

I suspect you have turned on the Full Screen mode. Move your mouse to the top of the screen, click the View menu and choose Exit Full Screen.

  • Yellow "minimize" button disappears. randomly. all apps

I've had this problem for as long as I can remember.
Randomly, the yellow minimize button (between the red and green buttons) on the
top bar of my apps gets grayed out, and no longer works. There's no
pattern to it - it's pretty random, and often happens to
several apps. Have not found a way to get it back, aside from
exiting and restarting the effected app(s).
When the app starts, all 3 buttons are present and working. At some
point, yellow fades to gray, and it's gone.
Sounds like an Aqua bug, but a very long-standing bug.
    Very annoying...
    Thanks,
    /jim

I have had this problem forever as well; all with Leopard. I've never installed WindowShade, but I do run Parallels 3.0 from time to time. I've never correlated this goofy and very annoying behavior with Parallels... The problem seems to creep in and out every day, usually affecting iCal, Mail and Firefox more than anything else (all at different times). I have correlated this with Spaces; the buttons typically come and go with more movement between spaces. Interestingly, if a yellow button disappears, I really don't HAVE to quit it to get the button back; just wait and sometime later after unknown operations it will be back. It always comes back if I quit the app and relaunch, but it will disappear again after a while.

I have a Mac Air. I use the mail application al the time. THe red, yellow, and green buttons disappeard. i have to force-quit now to close mail.. How do i get the buttons back? thanks.

Mail window may be in the Full Screen mode.
Move the mouse pointer to the top right corner of the Mail window and hold it there.
Menu bar should drop down and click the blue double arrow icon.
Full Screen toggle shortcut:  control + command + F

  • No red, yellow or green buttons (close, minimise, maximise) in iTunes 10.4?

I've just downloaded iTunes 10.4 for mac and the red, yellow and green buttons (close, minimise, maximise) that sit in the top left corner are no longer there. It also looks like part of the top of iTunes has been cut off. Is this the norm now? How do I get them back?

It sounds to me like the iTunes toolbar is up under the Mac OS X menu bar. Try selecting the "Close Window" command from the File menu in ITunes, then open a new window by choosing "iTunes" under the Windows menu. If that doesn't fix the problem, try changing the resolution of your Mac's screen (Displays system preference) to a lower resolution, then back. That may get the iTunes window to reappear.
If not, open the Script Editor application, paste in the following text and click the "Run" button:
    tell application "Finder"
set {d1, d2, d3, d4} to (get bounds of window of desktop)
    end tell
    tell application "iTunes"
    set margins to {d1 + 10, d2 + 54, d3 - 10, d4 - 148}
set bounds of window 1 to margins
    end tell
That should restore the window properly, though I haven't tried that script with recent versions of Mac OS X.
    Hope this helps.

  • I lost the round red, yellow, and green buttons in Safari.  How do I get them back?

I lost the round red, yellow, and green buttons in the upper left hand corner in Safari.  Does anyone know how to get them back?

Has Safari taken up the entire screen? If so, then that's 'Full Screen Mode', which you can toggle on or off with Control+Command+F.

  • Red, Yellow and Green button are grey.  "Show All" button disappears

I'm having two issues that I can not figure out.
First the red, yellow and green buttons are grey not colored. They still work but they do not show the correct color.
The second problem is that the "Show All" button in system preferences is not visible until I float over the are where it should be. The button still works but is not visible.
I can not figure out what happened or if the two situations are related.
    Any thoughts?
    -Rich

Not sure on your other issue yet, but here's a suggestion for those buttons.
Open System Preferences and click the Appearance option. Is it set to Graphite? Switch to Blue.
I'll see if I can find a solution for your other problem as well!
Edit: Can't hurt to try removing the preferences file and see if that fixes things.
Click *Macintosh HD*, then Users> Library> Preferences. Delete--or move to the desktop--the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file. Restart your computer. Any changes?
Try another user account as well to see if the button reappears.
