Redaction removed in Acrobat Professional 8.2.1?

Hey all,
I've been using Acrobat Professional 8 to redact documents for work.  Today's the first time I've had to redact anything for a little while - looking back at my notes, I last redacted something in January, after the release of the 8.2 update.  Since then, Acrobat has been updated to the 8.2.1 update.
However, the redaction toolbar is now completely gone.  It's not where it's supposed to be.  Checking under View -> Toolbars, it's not even listed.  It's also not listed in the "More tools..." window.
Am I just going crazy, or has the 8.2.1 update removed the ability to redact documents?
(This is on my work computer, running XP SP3.)

I didn't.
However, after my initial post, I noticed that there were many other options not present, so I did a repair installation.  The redaction option, along with these other options, is now back.

  • Acrobat Professional 9 and Acrobat Reader 9: cannot update, remove, or re-install ...

After I have downloaded Acrobat Professional 9.0 updates and Acrobat Reader 9 updates, both update installations fail.
    Acrobat Reader 9 problems
I thought that there could be a conflict between Acrobat Reader 9, which I have also installed, and Acrobat Professional 9.0, so I tried to remove Acrobat Reader 9, but the patch package could not be found. I then ran the Windows Install Cleanup tool, but Acrobat Reader 9 is still on my system. I now cannot reinstall it, nor can I really remove it
I’d like to remove Acrobat Reader 9 entirely because I already have Acrobat Professional 9.0, but how?
    Acrobat Professional 9.0 problems
When I try to remove Acrobat Professional 9.0 in order to re-install it from disk, I get the message that the patch package could not be found. When I insert the disk to try to repair Acrobat Professional 9.0, I get the message that the patch package could not be opened. When I try to use the Repair Acrobat Installation option in the Help menu of the program, nothing happens.
I’m hesitant to run the Windows Install Cleanup tool on Acrobat Professional 9.0 because of the problems I got with Acrobat Reader 9 after running the Windows Install Cleanup tool.
How can I re-install Acrobat Professional 9.0 from disk?

    Amanda,
As Van says, yes you can have both seleced at the same time. I suspect there are other issues on your machine that are creating your problems. FWIW, I too have been running FM9 on a win7 64-bit platform with no issues.
The Roaming Profile is used typicaly with remote logins across a WAN (wide area network), however, application specific gets stored there - depending upon the application. Since you've seemed to have resolved the issue by deleting (or disabling the profile, i.e. the apps won't look there) the Roaming profile folder, it sounds like there might have been something corrupt or erroneous in the Acrobat data folders. When you installed your FM versions, did you deselect the accompanying PDFcreator option? If not and you had an existing Acrobat installation, then some items would have been overwritten, creating some issues for you.

  • Acrobat Professional 7 Document Message Bar does not display

I am running Acrobat Professional 7.0.9 on a Windows 2000 PC (HP Compaq dc7100, P4, 1GB RAM). After upgrading Adobe Reader to version 8.1.2, I can no longer create forms that trigger the Document Message Bar to display in either Acrobat or Reader. (No, the Always Hide option is not selected in my preferences in either program.) Forms I created before the upgrade still display normally. How can I fix this issue?

I had troubles with Acrobat Pro 6.0 after I installed Reader 8.1.2.
I removed the newer reader and all worked fine again. Seems I'm not missing much using the 6.0 version.

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2, Locking toolbars

In Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2, how do I keep the Comment & Markup Toolbar from repopulating itself with the functions I've unchecked in the "More Tools" add/remove window? I've selected Lock Toolbars, however upon next reboot, they're back again. Thanks.

Sorry, I don't know the answer but i am facing the same problem.
As far as i know this error does not appear in Acrobat 9 but unfortunately i have only Version 8.
Any help on this is highly appreciated!

  • Pages not cropping or rotating in Acrobat Professional 8.3.1

I am using Acrobat Professional 8.3.1 on Mac 10.5.6. When cropping or rotating pages in Press Quality PDFs I have created in Distiller, the operation is sometimes ignored or says can't find pages when all is selected, choosing the option a number of times eventually works, the quicker I select the options, the more chance there is that it works. I have reinstalled the programme but I still have the problem.
Any ideas, I wonder will an upgrade to 9 help, I am reluctant to spend the money if the problem persists.

    I didn't.
However, after my initial post, I noticed that there were many other options not present, so I did a repair installation.  The redaction option, along with these other options, is now back.

  • Acrobat Professional 11 Installation

Looking for information on how to install Acrobat Professional 11 on a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal server which already has Acrobat Professional 8.1 and Acrobat Reader 9.1.2 installed ???

So you want to install multiple versions of Acrobat on Windows.  You want to deal in software installation VooDoo, and the installation "Dark Arts"!  Be warned doing something like this can backfire on you in terrible ways.

    REMOVE_PREVIOUS
Specifies whether to removes an already installed product. The property can only uninstall a previous version of the product when that same product is being installed. For example, REMOVE_PREVIOUS=YES during an Acrobat install will only uninstall previous Acrobat versions. It will not affect any version of Reader that is present.  This property can be used during both Acrobat and Reader installs. The default is YES.

  • How to install acrobat professional 7 on windows 8

I just purchased a new computer that runs windows 8.  I have acrobat professional 7 installed on my old computer, unfortunately I downloaded it directly from Adobe and didn't get a CD, I only have my product registration receipt with a serial number.  How can I reinstall on my new computer?
    Thanks!

    reset your preferences:
Restore the Acrobat Preferences folder (Windows)
Restore the Acrobat Preferences folder to eliminate problems that damaged preferences cause. Most preference problems are caused by these file-based preferences, although most Acrobat preferences are stored within the registry.
Note:  This solution removes custom settings for Collaboration, JavaScripts, Security, Stamps, Color Management, Auto Fill, Web Capture, and Updater.
    Quit Acrobat.
In Windows Explorer, go to the Preferences folder:
    (Windows 7/Vista) C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\[version]
    (XP) C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\[version]
Move the Preferences folder to another location (for example, C:\Temp).
    Restart Acrobat.
If the problem recurs after you restore the Acrobat Preferences folder, then the problem isn’t related to the Preferences folder. To restore custom settings, drag the folder you moved in step 2 back to its original location. Then click Yes To All to replace the new Preferences folder.
Restore the Acrobat preferences files (Mac OS)
Restore the Acrobat preferences files to eliminate problems caused by a damaged preferences file.
Note:  Re-creating the Acrobat preferences files restores settings to their defaults.
    Quit Acrobat.
Drag the following files from the Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences folder to the Desktop:
    Acrobat WebCapture Cookies
    com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist or com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro_x86_9.0.plist
Acrobat Distiller Prefs and com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist (if you are troubleshooting an issue with Distiller)
The Acrobat folder, which contains preferences for forms (MRUFormsList), collaboration (OfflineDocs), and color settings (AcrobatColor Settings.csf)
    Restart Acrobat
If the problem recurs after you restore the Acrobat preferences files, then the problem isn’t related to preferences files. To restore custom settings, drag the files you moved in step 2 back to their original location. Then click OK to the alert “A newer item named ‘[filename]’ already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the older one you're moving?”
if that fails, uninstall, clean and then reinstall, Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

  • Can't upgrade Acrobat Professional 9.0 to Acrobat Professional 9.3

We have been installing Acrobat Pro 9.0 on machines.  Now that the 9.3 update has been released we want to update the computers.  I have followed the instructions to create an AIP. 9.0, 9.1, 9.1.2, 9.2, 9.3.  When I attempt to install Acrobat Professional 9.3 on a computer that has Acrobat Professional 9.0 on it I receive the following error message.
Another version of this product is already installed.  Installation of this version cannot continue.  To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.
If I install the package I created on a computer that does not have Adobe Acrobat Pro installed on it, there are no problems.  The package is installed and it is at the correct version.
I obviously don't think I should have to manually remove Acrobat Pro 9 from the computers.  Shouldn't the patched 9.3 product install over 9.0?

    Browse in the registry to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
Highlight {AC76BA86-1033-0000-7760-000000000004} or {AC76BA… as Adobe stuff usually starts with that
On the right you will see stuff like
    DisplayName = Adobe Acrobat…
    DisplayVersion = 9.3.2
This confirms the product and version.  So in the above example if you want to uninstall it this would be the command
Msiexec.exe /x{AC76BA86-1033-0000-7760-000000000004}  and then /qb or /qb! For no cancel button etcetera
So once I found my 9.0.0.332 SID I opened Adobe Customization Wizard 9, opened my MSI with attached MST.  Clicked on the last option in the left column, “Direct Editor”, then on the table “Upgrade”.  I looked in the list for my SID and saw several close ones but not the same SID.  So I made note of the VersionMin, Attributes, and ActionProperty of the similar row.  I then added a new row with the known SID I wanted removed and with the noted info from the other row.
Clicked save, which updated my mst.  I’m using a command that launches setup.exe.  I find that the settings in the transform are more consistent than when running a full msiexec i/…transform=…command.
When I run the setup.exe I see the msiexec window startup saying configuring 9.3.2 and then it flash to an msiexec window saying removing older version of the product followed shortly by installing 9.3.2
    Done

  • Acrobat Professional 8.1

When I try to run Acrobat Professional Trial on a
Vista Business X86 system it reports a fatal incompatibility with
Adobe Reader!!! I have uninstalled Adobe Reader and tried to remove
any scraps of files or registry entries connected with it but the
incompatibility continues. Instructions on how to manually remove
Adobe Reader file and registry entries pop up but do not work in
Vista because System files and registry entries are inaccessible
even to administrators. Curiously Acrobat Professional 7 works
perfectly on another Vista computer. Adobe Support will not support
trial versions but I am not going to pay for an update until I know
it will work! It seems ludicrous that Adobe cannot fix
incompatibilities between their products. Perhaps the pdf format
should be withdrawn in favour of docx? Has anybody found a
    solution?

  • Acrobat Professional 8.1 interface problem with Internet Explorer

After upgrading to the latest version of Internet Explorer, I cannot open or download Adobe files from online sources.  The Adobe Acrobat program simply shuts down, and the following error message appears:  "A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.0 cannot continue.  Please reinstall the application and try again."  When using Google Chrome as a browser, the Adobe program works as intended.  Any suggestions about how to remove this glitch from Internet Explorer?

The new version of IE was written years after the release of Acrobat Pro. You can try IE in compatibility mode to see if that helps. If not then either roll back to IE7 or right click to to a save as and open the file outside of IE.

  • SERIOUS ADOBE ACROBAT PROFESSIONAL 8 ERROR

    Hi
I am using (or TRYING to use!) Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.
But every time it loads up I receive the following pop-up message:
"A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot continue. Please re-install the application and try again."
I click OK, and then another message appears:
    "Acrobat.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x05bf1243" referenced memory at "0x12284e88". The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program"
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but the error comes back!
What can I do?? Can ANYONE help?!!

I've been watching this thread hoping to find an answer to nearly the same issue... "Acrobat Cannot Continue At This Time Until You Open Photoshop" (?)
It doesn't matter which application I open... Acrobat is worhtless and closes in roughly 5 seconds. Hard to believe Adobe's been unable to duplicate this in-house? Now I'm afraid to uninstall it and reinstall ver. 7. I already had to FORMAT my Vista install and deal with Microsoft requiring personal information before allowing me to authorize my copy of Vista Ultimate a second time, just to get Photoshop CS3 installed on my PC following the beta fiasco.
And to think I installed Vista in the first place because I wanted to be able to use Bridge 2.0....
Jeff, why couldn't there have been a list of files and registry entries to be removed posted? Some sort of procedure to help out those of us that didn't install the Photoshop beta to the default drive or directory? The WinClean tool did NOT work for me, (or several others I'm aware of).
As it looks, the same thing is happening now with Acrobat 8. Those of us with problems are out of luck after spending a lot of money on a productivity suite of tools. After all the problems I had with getting Photoshop CS3 on my computer from Creative Suite, I installed it from a stand-alone version before installing the rest of the suite to gain use of Dreamweaver, etc., (which ALSO crashes my entire system every 2nd or 3rd time I use it!).
I don't mean to be ragging on it, but I am a bit confused after using Adobe products for as long as they've been around...
    Thanks.

  • I am unable to reinstall Acrobat Professional 7.

I have CS 2 Premium.  I uninstalled Acrobat Professional 7 (AP 7) via Windows.  When I try to reinstall it, either through Windows or directly from the CD, it acts as if it is successful, but is not.  I uninstalled the entire suite and reinstalled, and everything but AP 7 reinstalled.  Any help out there?

    Bill,
Thanks for the guidance, but unfortunately I still haven't been successful. Here's what I did:
*Downloaded and installed the Windows Registry Cleanup utility.
*Uninstalled all installed components of Adobe CS 2 Premium using the distribution CD directly, not the Windows Add/Remove programs utility.
*Used the Windows Add/Remove programs to uninstall the separately installed Adobe Reader 7.
*Deleted the relevant Adobe entries in the registry with the Cleanup utility.
*Deleted the Adobe folder in the Programs directory, but, at first it would not allow me to delete the highest level folder telling me a .dll was being used by another program. I deleted what I could and then rebooted.  When I tried again, it allowed me to delete the remaining folders.
    *I rebooted again.
*I then reinstalled only three of the Adobe components directly from the distribution CDs: Acrobat Pro 7, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
*Only Illustrator and Photoshop installed, although, Illustrator also is faulty as I am unable to save files.
*I'm beginning to think I need to re-install my operating system!  What do you think?
    Nick
