Redaction

I have Adobe Pro 9.4.6 and use the redaction tool often.  I was recently advised to print my redacted file - and then scan it back in to avoid the original redactions to be compromised.  Is this necessary?

If you apply the redactions, the redaction annotations are no longer there to be removed. After they are applied, the content that was selected is removed entirely and securely. If someone claims otherwise, see if they can prove it.

  • Highlighting Text Acting Like REDACTING Text

Dunno what's goin on.   A Pro 9.  Windows Home, ALL UPDATES.
I highlight text and instead of seeing the text highlited, the highligt COVERS the tex.  It's YELLOW colored REDTACTION.
I've REPAIRED the app TWICE.  I REBOOTED each time.   That APPEARED to have corrected the problem.   It DIDN'T because the REPAIR failed and the HIGHLIGHT BLOTTOED OUT the text.   I uninstalled and reinstalled the app.   I opened the last thing I was working on where the YELLOW HIGHLIGHT redacted the text and the text WAS VISIBLE while highlighted.   THEN I opened another PDF file and same deal, the YELLOW highlighting REDACTED rather than HIGHLIGHTED.
Uh, is it a me thing?  Is it a thing I can chek or uncheck in A Pro 9?  Wassup with this weirdness?

CS4 is not kind to those who don't know HTML/CSS well enough
    to avoid these
errors, I'm afraid. It's really all about how much HTML and
    CSS you feel
comfortable with, not the tool you are using. Should the
    page/site be
rebuilt? I think so - at the least it should be taken apart
    and
reassembled. Are the mistakes you made ones that you will
    make again? Yes,
    I think so.
I don't want to sound harsh or pessimistic, but I think
    that's the bottom
line. I assume you are building the site for her so that she
    wouldn't have
the expense of paying someone to do it, right? But wouldn't
    you also want
her site to be the best it can be, and not to look/behave
    like someone's
    first site?
Now - if you want to bite the bullet and shove down some HTML
    & CSS, and
muddle through, there is plenty of help here, but if you
    aren't carrying
your load, people will tire of solving the problems you
    encounter.

  • Importing text file into search and redact window.

I am in the search window under the search and redact tool.  I
am trying to import a file that was originally an excel to populate the
search multiple words window.  I read that text files can be imported.  I saved the file as a text file but it does not import.  I can import an adobe file but this gives me a list with a bunch of junk.  What am I missing?

    The dialog imports text files.
Make sure that the file you are importing is a text file and has one word in every line.

  • Unable to Redact or Bates due to Error: There was a problem reading this document (16)

I am using Acrobat Pro X.  I have hundreds of account statements where I need to redact and bates stamp.  Somehow I keep getting this error:  There was a problem reading this document (16)
The files open and print fine.  There is no security settings in the PDF that will disalllow me to do this.  The next thing I checked to see if they were PDF/A but they were not.   Also, I tried Print to PDF but it garbles up the PDF results.  Re-scanning them is not a solution for me given the time it would takeme.
Any idea why I would get this error when the PDFs open, save and print ok?

This means there is an internal error in the PDF files, even if they seem to display OK. Contact the document creator.

  • When I Apply Redaction to the selected area the area is redacted, however the rest of the doc becomes unreadable. Is there a fix for this?

    FYI - I am using Acrobat X Pro v 10.1.13
If I convert a MS Word Document to a PDF file the Redaction works fine without affecting the rest of the document.
The problem I am describing below only seems to happen on documents that have been scanned to PDF from my Lanier Copier/Printer/Scanner/Fax machine MP C3502.  I purchased the Adobe PDF software for the machine so that I could scan from the machine directly to my computers. The scan arrives onto both of my computers, no problem. I can open them and print them with no problems. Both Computers have Acrobat Pro X software on them.
    Here is what I do:
    1. I receive an Invoice in the mail
    2. I scan it at 600dpi from my Lanier machine to my computers
    3. I open the scanned PDF doc on my computer
4.I select Save As and give the doc a name
    5. I open the Tools and go to Protection
    6. I select Mark for Redaction
    7. I select the area I want Redacted
    8. I Apply Redaction
    9. I answer, Yes to the pop up window asking me if I want to Apply the Redaction
    10. Another pop up window confirms the Redaction is successful
    11. At this point I can see that the Redaction had occurred however the rest of the document appears washed out and I cannot read any other information on the document.  Thing such as bar codes or header in color all seem to be fine but all the type is washed out and unreadable.  I normally use Black for my redaction color however I have tried using other colors and I get the same effect.
When I first installed the Acrobat Pro X software a few years ago I never had any problems,  I recently began updating the Acrobat software a few months ago and now I have this problem,
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thank you,
    BG10

Thank you. I figured it out right before I heard from you.  Running the OCR before the redaction made it work correctly.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question.
    Make it a great day.

  • Redact and Save info in a Portfolio?

I have taken 4 outlook emails and saved them to a pdf portfolio in Pro X.  One of the emails has a PDF attachment that has some confidential info.  I want to redact the personal info and save the attachment that exists in the portfolio.  How do I keep it in the attachment in the original portfolio with the email?  When I redact the info. from the PDF attachment and apply the redaction it asks to save it.  I don't want it to be a separate document.  I would like the attachment to stay within the portfolio as the attachment to the email that is now part of a portfolio.  I am new to Acrobat and trying to learn as I go.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

If you are using the SAP Enterprise Portal, there is a way to do this by creating a "dummy" folder in KM that actually points to a network folder on a remote server. There is a white paper available that describes the steps involved, titled "How to Broadcast a BI Report to a Directory on the Enterprise Portal Server".  (The title is actually somewhat misleading, because the folder can be anywhere, not just on the portal.)
Here is the link to it:  [https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/40027b87-b9a8-2b10-099c-a1312e25a59c ]
    Hope this helps...

  • When I apply redaction, a white line partially appears around redacted area

I’m hoping you can help me figure out an issue. I created a redaction action wizard in Pro X (Windows 7 Ultimate) to change the name of the month for 280+ client reports. I use a new copy of the master file each month (the month always being redacted is "september", the month with the most characters).
The problem is that when I redact on a color background (using the matching color overlay), I get a fine thin white line that goes only across the top and right side of where the redaction box was (see below). Nothing across the bottom or left side – pretty close color match. The original files were created in Illustrator CS5.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you. I figured it out right before I heard from you.  Running the OCR before the redaction made it work correctly.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question.

  • Open pdf says "please fill out the following form" when I attempt to apply redactions, I get an error message.  How do I "turn off" the form portion of the document?  I assume that is the problem since I have not had this issue with any of the other files

I am attempting to redact a large pdf file.  When I open the file, it has a bar across the top with the message "please fill out the following form".  I can mark redactions, but when I attempt to apply them I get a message saying, "In order to proceed Digital Signatures must be removed and the document must be fully authorized.  Do you want to make these changes and continue?"   I click "ok".  Then I get a message saying, "an internal error occurred."  How do I get around this problem?

You cannot redact a signed document. This is because one of the things signatures guarantee is access to the OLDER document (i.e. there will be an unredacted copy in there).
In general you cannot remove signatures, but sometimes you can. Look under the Signatures tab (right click on left vertical bar if there isn't one) to see if it is removable.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.5 Redactions apply on all pages of document

When I redact text on the first page of a document, the redaction marks appear on every other page of the document, I can not find a way to apply the redactions to only one page. I am trying to figure out how to have the redactions just appear on one page.

Thank you for the suggestion. In my redaction properties menu, I do not see the option to uncheck 'Apply to All Pages' here is what my redaction properties look like:

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 redaction trouble

    Hello,
When redacting documents in Acrobat 9 Professional, it will sometimes alter text further in the document.
For example if I redact some text on page 3 of the document, it alters the word "Washington" to "ashington W" on page 11. this is not document specific, as I've seen it occur on several documents now.
The change to the text seems to occur when saving the document.
    thanks,
    -Nick

I am having the same problem, and it just appeared randomly last week after using Acrobat 9 Professional since the week it was released. It has nothing to with the amount of text being redacted - redacting a single character on a document with embedded text will trigger the issue, which was affecting over a dozen lines of text. I have also determined that the problem is not document specific. Has anyone experienced this or come up with a solution? Thanks!

  • How to redact information in adobe acrobat XI standard

How do you redact information in adobe acrobat XI standard

That's true. However, it is technically possible to redact documents in Acrobat Standard, just like in Acrobat Pro, but it requires using a script. You can't do it with the commands that are available in the application itself.

  • Failure to report error when redacting in Acrobat X

I have experienced a problem when using Acrobat X whereby after highlighting all of the text in a file that I wish to redact and then clicking redact certain passages of text fail to redact but fail to alert me of the failure.  As I may be redacting documents of several hundred pages it isnt practical for me to go through checking that each redactino was successful.  Is there a way to turn on an alert to warn me if a passage of text fails to redact to to information me how many of my redactions succeeded (ie 99/100 redactions were successful).

Are you able to select and/or search on the text that fails to redact? it's possible that this isn't really text but an image (or scan) of the text. The Search & Remove Text feature can only work on information that is actual text. If it is a scan or image, you can run the Recognize Text command so that the Redaction tool finds the text..

  • How secure is redaction in adobe acrobat x pro? Can text be read once redacted?

I have redacted and applied all the credit card info from some pdfs and saved them after.  Is there any way of undoing the redaction and being able to read the credit card info.
Your experience in this field will be much appreciated.
    KF.

Always so long as you remember to APPLY it (some people haven't, with embarrassing results).

  • How do I redact a PDf using Acrobat XI?

I just upgraded from Acrobat 9 to Acrobat XI and it doesn't seem to have the redaction functions that Acrobat 9 had.  Can anyone tell me where to find them.  Thanks.

In Acrobat XI Pro, it's in Tools > Protection. But it's not in Acrobat XI Standard.

  • Acrobat 7.0 - Printing as PDF doesn't 'fix' redactions.

    Hi,
We carry out a lot of redacting of files and exempting information. To do this we use stamps and opaque boxes to cover information and then used the 'Print as pdf' to 'fix' the stamps and boxes in place so that the hidden information can't be viewed.
This seemed to be fine until my colleague discovered that when on a fixed redacted page he can move his mouse back and forth and can reveal the previously hidden text!
As far as we can determine there is no other way of revealing the 'removed' text but this is decidedly worrying as we rely on Acrobat removing the information which it obviously isn't doing!
I'd like to know if anyone else has had this problem and how they have resolved it, if at all. Given the nature of the information we deal with, if we can't be certain that Acrobat actually removes the information we'll have to look at using a completely different option and we could really do without the expense and inconveniance of that!
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your comments.
I think we're already looking at getting Acrobat 9.0. What do you know about Redax? I'm guessing it can handle pdfs?
