Reddish color cast printing

I recently installed LR 5.3 on a new computer running Windows 8.1. Am using the Epson R2880 printer. All drivers etc are up to date.
Any print or print preview using any ICC profiles has a very decided reddish/pinkish (or possibly magenta) color shift. Have tried several paper profiles, including different Epson ones, Moab, and a couple of others from different manufacturers. All have the same color shift. Color management is turned off in the printer (though have tried it both ways).
However, if I go Print Job and select either "Stylus Photo R2880" or "Managed By Printer", both the preview and the print are pretty much what I see on the screen.
I previously had LR (5.2) installed on an older computer, removed it and reinstalled on the new computer, and updated LR to 5.3. Previously on the old computer I never had any similar issues.
Any ideas?

I have Lightroom set to use one of the ICC profiles for the paper I am using. I don't see anyplace else in LR to choose how color printing is managed.
I may be missing something here, but not sure what. What actually appears to be happening is that just the print preview is what is being color shifted now. (I did a complete reinstall of the printer and drivers). Here is what I mean:
1. How photo looks in print setup https://www.flickr.com/photos/78314425@N07/13472274714/
2. How photo looks in print preview https://www.flickr.com/photos/78314425@N07/13472081483/
Vastly different colors, yet the picture seems to print correctly now, as it looks in #1. (this is a 30 year old slide scan, so qualtity is not the best).

  • HP 8500 All in One prints reddish color

My HP 8500 All in One Deskjet has started to print in all reddish color even though the cartridges appear full. I have run a cardridge head clean and a cardridge align and if I'd rather put my head through a plate glass window than have to talk to HP today.
Does anyone happen to have any recommendations on this and was there a dedicated place to post Mac Printer questions with the new interface?
Also, does anyone know how I get to set the Print Page to all black and white? I can never seem to find these kinds of things in the Printer Config now that I have converted to Mac for some reason.
    Thanks.

    hi,
It seems to me that there could be a problem with the Magenta/Cyan Printhead of your printer. Try to perform the steps of cleaning the contacts of the printhead and of the printer, click here. After cleaning the contacts, try to print a diagnostic page to see if your printer will now print color. If issue persisted, then i believe you need to replace the Magenta/Cyan printhead.
Contact HP tech support at 1-800-474-6836 for any suggestions regarding this matter, they might be able to replace the printhead of your printer if your machine is still under warranty.
    Hope these would help you!

  • Strong color cast in prints

I'm printing from Aperture to an Epson R800 and the prints come out with a very strong red/brown color. Its not like a subtle cast from, say a miscalibrated monitor (monitor is a Dell 2407 WFP A02 calibrated with a Huey pro).
I have the following relevant settings:
    Printer profile: SPR800 prem glossy
Media Type: premium lossy photo paper
    Advanced/Best photo/Gloss on.
AFAIK these are the correct settings.
I spoke to Epson who suggest I use colour controls to correct the color cast - what price colour management!

first tested Lightroom 2.1 and it works as it should so does PSE4 but not PSE6
PSE6 Mac Printing Colours darker than PSE4 - Adobe accepts fault
My work requires that when I create prints for artists I must replicate all the prints exactly everytime. It worked perfectly from PSE2, PSE3 and PSE4 but now......
I am unable to replicate quality of printing on MACOSX PSE6. it works great on PSE4. I mailed some printed images on art paper to adobe in amsterdam and a cd with the same images. After weeks of discussions phone, email and after testing using their work flow....they came back with some answers.
Finally a couple of replies from Adobe re colour problems and they have accepted that they are double managing the image and that I should use printer management to do the colour conversion.. here are their two replies and the comment that they will now drop me until???????

Thank you for contacting Adobe Technical Support.

After consulting with my colleagues about the issue you raised, I can let you know the following:

The issue is both on our as well as the driver software side and the workaround we have given is the best available at this time. This issue is affecting all printers, not just Epson or Canon.

The soft proofing effect that you are seeing in the print preview is indeed an attempt at soft proofing. However since Photoshop Elements managed prints are incorrectly double colour managed it is not as useful as it was initially designed.

As to the exact details of why this occurred, we have no official information.

We believe that this will resolve the issues you are experiencing, however, should the reply not help solve the problem, please contact us again, quoting the case number given above, and we will re-open the case.

Subject: Re: Adobe TS #180107025 / Mario / PSE6 oversaturated Print (KMM3793441I51L0KM)

Dear Mr. Laugesen,

We have had word back from our engineers regarding your issue.

The Photoshop Elements team are aware of the problem and are working with Apple and the printer manufacturers to get this to work correctly. In the meantime, the only workaround is to switch off colour management in Photoshop Elements and let the printer handle the colour management.

Unfortunately we can not make an estimation as to when a fix will be provided. We will close the case for the time being as there really is nothing more we can do about this issue besides offering the suggested workaround. Closing this case does not mean that the research will stop however and the engineers are working on a solution to this.

  • Color cast when printing from Lightroom with Epson 3880 printer

Just got an epson 3880 printer. Printing on epson paper is fine. But printing on Ilford or Moab or other papers from lightroom and photoshop have a terrible magenta color cast.
WHen I print the same image from Preview, with the same print driver settings, it looks fine. So somehow the adobe apps (or my settings) are messing up the color sync.
I used to have an espon 2400 which worked just fine.
I have Mac OSX-10.9.1. Monitor is calibrated. (Prints to epson paper with their profiles look great...it's just other profiles that are really bad).
    I need help!

Are you using moab icc profiles or are you using one of the epson profiles?
I always use the moab profiles which you can download from their Web site. This way you are matching the specific epson printer with the specific moab paper.
At that point you change the printer manages color to Lightroom manages color and select the specific profile. Very easy to do - they even have instructions on the Moab site for installing the profiles if you haven't done that.
Once installed you can also use them through the system print dialogs in PS but it is really much much easier to use in LR - Since coming on board with LR last summer, I have switched to doing ALL printing from LR. Since you mentioned that you are having the same problem with LR and PS, I'm betting you are using epson profiles and this will solve your problem.
    Hope so

  • Red Color Cast when printing with Canon Pixma Pro 9000

My printer is giving me a horrible red color cast after the latest software update. The color cast can also be seen in Preview and in the print window. No changes to drivers have been made. Printer worked fine before the update.
Has anyone else found this problem and offered a solution?

    You may find it helpful.
Thanks, but if you look in the archives of the Apple ColorSync Users List, you'll find thousands of posts from his Mac dating back to the beginning of the List.
The principle is that you configure your device colour spaces to the largest gamut of which they are capable, calibrate them to a stable condition, characterise that condition in a measured test chart, and build ICC device profiles for those characterisations in your ICC profiling package of choice.
You then capture and correct colour with correct colour previews, resulting in normalised exposures in an ideal CIE colour space. With you normalised exposures, you convert into output condition 1, output condition 2, output condition n which is what repurposing is about.
But you do no apply a gamma change on top of the colour managed rendering. That is incorrect by definition. You apply your gamma change as part of the colour correction in order to get your normalised exposure.
If you imagine this in a prepress process, then you can forget the concept of determinate rendering which is the bedrock of the ICC architecture. If you as photographer do a gamma correction on top of your presentation print or proof print, then you can claim that you have a presentation print, but you cannot contractually claim that you have a proof print as your proof print is a colour correction on top of the colour management system. If Apple Aperture allows the user access to colour correction on top of colour management, then that is a bug in the application. Sorry ...

  • Blue Color Cast when Printing

I have just carefully calibrated (again) my Canon Pro 9000 Mk11 Printer and Asus Pro Art screen using Spyder equipment.
Printing in LR4.4 consistently produces a blue cast.  I moved to Elements 11 and using the same just created profile printed the same picture/file.
    No color cast.
I have LR5 Beta also so I printed same on it.  No color cast - to all intents and purposes identical to Elements 11.
'Perceptual' setting used throughout and no 'Print Adjustment' used in LR.
    I am using Windows 8 64bit.
Why should LR4 only produce a color cast?  The settings have been carefully checked ...

    Hello:
I'm not sure of site etiquite, whether I should ask another's advice about a separate problem, but my dilemma is so much like this and I have not been able to fix it on my own nor with Adobe or Epson's tech support.
I too am getting out of my printer only prints that have a blue cast to them. My printer is an Epson r2000. I print from Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS 6 or now its Creative Cloud equivalent. Yesterday, the i7 laptop I have been using for photo editing (with a better monitor attached) started producing only bluish prints--intended to be black and white (the max whites are white but everything else has a blue cast). It also was apparent in color prints when I tested that alternative. I was not too concerned because yesterday FedEx also delivered a gonzo new desktop computer that I had ordered just for photo editing. I thought, "Well, I'll install all my Adobe stuff there and migrate the Lightroom files and everything will be OK." But, immediately, the blue-cast problem showed up on the new computer. I thought I probably "migrated" the problem when I brought over my catalog, images and settings from the laptop.
I reinstalled the newly installed printer driver and reinstalled the latests ICC files for the papers I use (Ilford Gold Fiber Silk and Gold Fiber Mono), but the problem persisted. I didn't yet know about blowing off the preset files.
I spent a lot of time on the phone with Epson yesterday and chatted at length (1 hour 39 minutes) online with Adobe tech support today. Adobe had me do what you recommended--blow off the preset files and begin again, all to no avail. On my own, I again deleted and reinstalled the printer driver and wiped out the preset files.
Still, I get a bluish overlay on my prints.
After reading your posts, I meticulously checked my settings. Everything seems alright.
I did one other thing. I printed images that had not been imported to lightroom in Windows Photo View through the same 13-inch Epson. They came out perfect.
Now, I just don't know what to do next. Epson and Adobe support have done their apparent best. I live in a small town at the end of the Columbia River where I am looked upon as one of the computer problem solvers (a degree in Literature notwithstanding).
I've thought of blowing off lightroom 5 and going back to version 4, but, as I understand it, that would mean losing all my metadata for some 40,000 images dating back to 1966, most of which I had to plug in by hand since they are from scanned negatives.
    Do you have any advice?
I am a little anxious because I am supposed to have prints ready for a show opening on July 27.
Thank you in advance for any advice you may offer.

  • Pro-100 terrible disk printing color cast

I am getting a terrible yellow/orangecolor cast when printing disks on my Pro100 printer.  I'm using the latest Easy Photoprint EX software on Windows 7 64-bit to print on Verbatim AquaAce Glossy disks.  These disks printed beautifully on the Epson Artisan 730 printer I used to own.  Literally no color issues ever.  However on the Pro-100 prints them up borderline unusable.
All other prints from the printer on regular and photo paper turn out perfectly.  I've literally never owned a printer with output this good - except for the disks.  I'm using the "Printable Disk (recommended)" setting with print quality set to "high".
The Photoprint software has ZERO color controls so I am unable to correct the color cast in software.  What's going on here?  Do I have any other options to try and fix this?

The fact you paper prints look great.  And you tried two different brands of DVD's with the same results tells us something.
The printer and the computer is working OK.  There is somethign else that is awry.  Some setting is worng.  With out knowing your complete process it is not possibile to pin point it here.  More info from you as to what you actually do is needed.
    Exactly what you do!
Switching disks is not likely to help.  You don't need the 'High' quality seting as 'Standard' works well..

  • Red / brown color cast with Pantone Huey

    Hi all
I may have made a breakthrough in trying to figure out why my prints don't look like what's on the screen despite calibrating my monitor, downloading the lab's icc files, softproofing, etc.
I believe my Huey Pantone (the cheaper version, not the Pro) is creating a reddish/brownish color cast after calibration.
It became very apparent when I set my background to light gray and turned the Huey to "uncorrected". I checked the Pantone website and there seem to be known issues for this. I guess they'll send me a new device (tech support was backed up so I didn't get through).
    A couple of questions:
    1. For others that use Huey, how do you do your calibration? What do you set brightness too? Room lights on or off? Got any color casts, or is it clean? BTW, I have the dreaded left to right gradient, do you think that's affecting things?
    2. If you've got a good monitor profile, would you consider emailing it to me, just so I could play around with it and compare to my calibrated setting?
    Thanks!

have you tried reporting this on the pantone support site - if you do a search there, you'll find a couple of problems mentioning the same thing your seeing.
I have the same problem and it could be a broken calibrator.

  • How to easily spot color cast in aperture

    Hi,
I am having difficulties to properly spot/analyze a color cast in my (scanned from color negatives) images. There is no neutral grey or white present and I'd like to get a handle on correcting this color cast without just trial and error (and making things worse)
Any hints or ideas? Pointing me to a resource on the web to find out how?
(Spotting and correcting the color cast in my scanning software (Silverfast Ai) didn'd work as well)
    Thanks a bunch,
    Rolf

Hi Rolf -- you're question is not really answerable.  Color is almost entirely subjective -- we color our world in our brains, and then we make machines to mimic this (digicam sensors don't record color -- they record luminance as filtered through known colored gels).  Your question presumes an objective standard of color correctness.  That does not exist.
Nevertheless, you can at least maximize your ability to get the colors as close to "right" as you can.  For that you need a color-calibrated workflow, from input (scanner) to output (whatever).  There is much information on this on the Web.  For Aperture, you'll want a hardware photospectrometer to calibrate your monitor(s) and whatever paper you print on (if you print).  I use a Color Munki Photo, and recommend it or something similar.  (X-Rite has recently announced a revamped product line.)  X-Rite also makes a calibration tool called a Passport.  This has several colors and shades of gray of known hues.  In use, you make an exposure of these colored squares, and then use them to set the white balance.  You might be able to something similar with a scanner.  (I don't use one, and don't know anything about scanner calibration.)

  • Pinkish Color cast in iphoto 08 ?

    Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a new mac with ilife 08. I noticed in iphoto that when i double click on a picture and it enlarges it, i get a pinkish color cast over the picture. it does it with all the pictures in iphoto. the thumbnails in iphoto look fine. its just when i click to view it larger or in edit mode that i get the strange color cast. does anyone have any ideas what is causing this? I have tried searching the apple support forums , but i am not finding anything on this problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Frank

    Frank:
If you plan on ordering a book or other printed item using the monitor's color profile might not give you what you want. I have calibrated my monitor to the sRGB profile plus a change in gamma for brightness. This has given me excellent color rendition in any book, card or calendar that I've ordered.
You might try printing one also to see if it gets what you expect.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Panasonic GF1 horrible color cast

It seems that Aperture has some serious issues with a magenta color cast when converting GF1 RAW files. It's not so apparent with 100-200 ISO (but still there, especially whith large white balance shifts) images but once you get to ISO 800 the images become unusable.
The color cast is mostly apparent in the dark(er) parts of the image.
Check out the following links to some quick test images that illustratie the problem perfectly. The first link is the image developed in Aperture (latest version) with the white balance set on the white wall in the background. The second link is the same image developed through the latest Camera Raw with the white balance set in the exact same spot.
    http://www.benoitvermeeren.be/forumpics/GF1_1704.jpg
    http://www.benoitvermeeren.be/forumpics/GF1_1704CRaw.jpg
The Camer Raw image is perfect. Is anybody else seeing this issue with the GF1 (or other Panasonic cameras with similar sensors). It makes using the GF1 with Aperture impossible.
It's quite unfortunate as Aperture performs great with my D700 images and I really don't want to switch to Lightroom because it's horrible as a library management application compared to Aperture (altough Camera Raw is giving me better results and noise reduction, lens correction and split toning are great, but I digress...).
Also check out this thread for a similar experince with the GH2 (+4 months old):
    http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1041&message=37849807&chang emode=1
The people in that thread have sent feedback to Apple and AFAIK this hansn't been resolved yet so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Raw files are not visible. They must be converted to an image file format in order to be seen. This is done in-camera for display on the LCD screen, and for export of JPG (or other) files. For almost all cameras, any processing which changes the appearance is done to a JPG file.
When you import raw files +you do not get the JPG processing+. That's what raw is -- it's the light information prior to being converted to an image format. (The are enormous advantages to having this data available.) That is why your raw file previews are in color.
There are a number of monochrome and grayscale conversion presents in all raw development programs. It is generally accepted that these do a better job than most of the in-camera converters. There is no question that they give a choice among many -- as well as the ability to tweak them to your heart's -- or your printer's -- content, unlike the baked-in conversions done in-camera.
In short, raw is never black & white or monochrome. Adobe has a good older white paper on raw which is worth reading: +Understanding Digital Raw Capture+.
    OS X is working correctly.

  • Strong red color cast over some images, solved

    Hi,
This issue was driving me nuts recently, but having just found the solution I thought I'd share in case anyone else runs into the same issue.
From one day to the next, my Mac (late 2013 MBP retina, Mavericks) suddenly started to display some (not all) images with a red semitransparent overlay.
This would occur most often in Apple applications like Finder, Preview, Safari, Mail etc.
In the Finder's icon view with a folder full of images, some thumbnails would have the color overlay, some others wouldn't. When resizing the thumbnails the overlay would flicker on and off on various images randomly.
Affected images would also print with the same color cast on a color printer.
    The Solution
After a lot of trial and error I found that the issue was caused by a custom libpng library, installed by Homebrew (http://brew.sh).
It was probably installed much earlier than this this issue started, maybe the library was updated that day, or something in OSX was updated triggering an incaompatibility leading to this issue.
I'm not sure why I installed this library in the first place, most likely as a dependency needed by another recipe I since uninstalled. I could uninstall it without issues.
Caveat: to fully uninstall a recipe, use:
         brew uninstall <recipe> --force
    in my case I did:
         brew uninstall libpng --force
Otherwise Homebrew will reinstall the library the next time you upgrade your brew installation (which is most likely what happened in my case).
Hope this helps at least someone.

    Hi, Chan
Thanks for the explanation of this subject. Anyway ... there are quite a number of possibilities that something is clipped during whole process. First, some channels can be clipped off at the sensor level, than after matrix conversion to RIMM, than if EV slider is used (and even if it isn't, because there is baseline exposure value)  ... or Saturation slider ... then after correction using LUT ... and finally during conversion to sRGB / AdobeRGB / whatever ... maybe some sort of soft clipping at some of these points would be better (just my opinion)
However, there is another highlight issue I noticed, illustrated with these two samples (Canon 400D, ACR 5.7, windows platform)
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4KEEDQW9
Left picture has all default settings. On the right picture, everything is the same, except that I made a small patch with adjustment brush tool at the top left corner (far from the center of the picture) and changed exposure value of the adjustment brush to a nonzero value (other adjustment brush sliders don't produce similar strange effect). Appearance of the area of the Sun changes abruptly and looks strange. Test with my HSV image from previous post shows that all colors are affected (not only yellow)
Also, there is a similar abrupt change in the highlight behavior if I lower the global EV slider from -0.25 to -0.30 (0.25 is baseline exposure value for this camera), or if I raise Recovery slider from 6 to 7 (which seems to have similar effect). I think these two issues are unrelated to clipping in sensor color space vs. RIMM
    Thanks

  • Color change printing in Photoshop CS4 and CS5

I have an Epson Stylus R1800. When I print something in CS5 it has different colors than printing in CS5. I checked the color settings and color mode and everything is the same. What settings did I missed, that I get such a different result?
    Jutta

Sounds like you have the same problem as the Epson 2800. There is a post in here somewhere. The problem is with the Epson drivers. The person ended up buying a Epson 3800 If I remember correctly and had no more issues. His problem was with Red color cast or something like that.
You may want to get with Epson. Older printer, no new drivers on a new OS with PS CS5 was not a good combo.

  • Color and Printing from LR

I'm a commercial photographer and spend much of my time photographing fine art for galleries and their publications. Color matching, therefore, is a critical part of my business.
I have calibrated my camera with a greytag colorchecker; I calibrate my monitor at least every week with a spyder. At each shoot, I capture the image with the greytag grid in frame. I shoot RAW .CR2. My workflow is to import using the camera calibration presets I developed for similar lighting conditions. I adjust whitebalance using the grey tone scale on the greytag grid in the shot. I adjust exposure and tone curve as necessary in LR, apply clarity, crop etc. Then I edit in CS3 for the final adjustments. I edit in RGB with a working profile that emulates the final CMYK/ICC profile of the 4-color press printer we use. I save the file and return to LR.
Th gallery wants proof prints from me. Here's the problem:
I print on a 9800 Epson wide format using semiweight matte paper. I print to a color burst RIP. I switch off color management in LR leaving that for the RIP. In the RIP, I print using the correct ICC for the paper. Prints are OK BUT there is a distinct over emphasis on the red/orange color range. This is a problem, since many of the images are of southwestern themes with redish hues.
If I take the same saved TIFF files, and print them from CS3 via the RIP using the same settings throughout, the output is excellent and mimics my moniot exactly without the color cast.
LR's work flow is ideal and convenient, but this printing feature is a major problem. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Many thanks,
    Andrew

Lightroom is sending the file to your RIP with the ProPhoto colour profile hence the colour shift.
LR is great at printing when you let
    i it
handle to media profile. Most printer drivers and RIP software cannot handle ProPhoto so you if you must use the RIP, you're best exporting a version for proofing and print straight from Photoshop.

My question is why is Lightroom displaying the images with a yellow color cast ? The image is a print screen from Lightroom on the left and Photoshop on the right The color cast problem can be seen in the white walls of the stairway. Also when viewing the image with Windows Picture and Fax viewer the walls are white as expected.
Any ideas or suggestions as to why Lightroom is displaying the images with the yellow color cast or what I need to do to correct the issue ?
    Thanks
    Jim

Almost definitely a corrupt monitor profile. Time and again this turns out to be the cause of such differences between PS and LR. You need to recalibrate the monitor or if you do not have a hardware calibrator, delete the profile from windows' monitor properties pane to test and then get a hardware calibrator.
P.S since you are using adobeRGB jpegs, Windows picture and Fax viewers cannot give you the correct colors even on a calibrated monitor. Those are not color managed programs (I believe picture viewer finally is in Vista but definitely not in XP which you appear to be using). Also, PS has to be correctly set up to always preserve embedded profiles and to ask when you have profile mismatches, otherwise even PS will give incorrect color. Make sure to set this up in Edit>Color settings.
P.S.2: Make sure you are not applying defaults in Lightroom to your images either on import or elsewhere. Sometimes people by accident define develop defaults that in this case might contain a white balance shift. Go to LR preferences and open the Presets tab. Here click on "Reset all default Develop settings" and make sure that only the auto grayscale checkbox is ticked. For images that it might have already happened to, make sure to hit the reset button.
