When I tried to redeem a $10 iTunes gift card, I received a message saying "Your Apple ID has been credited with $10.00. Your balance is $1.42." How did I redeem a $10 gift card and only have a balance of $1.42? Is there any way to fix this?

Did you owe iTunes money and/or have pre-orders or auto-renewing subscriptions that were due ? You've checked the purchase history on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2727 ? If you can't see where the balance went, and you've tried logging out (Store > Sign Out menu option) and back into your account (Store > Sign In) and it doesn't change then you could try contacting iTunes Support and see if they can help with where it went : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

If the total purchase price of the media including any applicable taxes or fees exceeds the balance of the redeemed card, then the difference is charged to your debit or credit card account.

I redeem it buy scanning. It acknowledge that I redeem a 25$ gift card but it show that I only have 15,88$ credit.
I feel like I just got scam about 10$ ?

TS1292 I received a gift card and when I typed in the code, it accepted the incorrect code and now I can't redeem or get ahold of Apple to assist

I tried using my iTunes gift card and put in the code and the serial number and they were accepted but before I typed it in again to make a purchase, I realized that the first letter is the code wasn't showing up and I had to put in under a light to see there was a ltter. When I tried putting in the new code it said it had lready been redeemed, though it has never been used. I can't get a hold of customer support and haven't had this happen before. Any suggestions?

Are you sure it's asking for the code from the card and not asking for you to confirm credit card billing information? As Anna said, I've never had iTunes ask for the code from a gift card once I'd redeemed it. If you are certain that it's asking for the code again, Go here:
iTunes Support
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store. (There is no phone support for the iTunes Store).

Very very likely that tax is applicable and tax is more than $0.01. You need to add a payment method for the tax. If you add a credit card, the girft card balance will be used up first.

It's been a while but it should work on a Mac because Macs can read Windows formatted devices. Otherwise, you can perform a restore operation to return it to the Mac format. If you go to support.apple.com/manuals/ you can find a copy of the user manual for the model you have in which this is all explained.

You can't log into any site and see your account's balance. You can log into your account on your iPad via Settings > iTunes & App Store - on my iOS devices my balance shows at the bottom of, for example, the Featured tab in the App Store app under my account id (or you can view your account via Settings > iTunes & App Stores and it should show on the screen that you are taken to). You may not see anything if your account's balance is zero.
Not sure what you mean by relationship iTunes has to products. You can buy music, films, TV shows, audiobooks via the iTunes app on your iPad, and apps via the App Store app - what you buy will be tied to your iTunes account.
