Redeeming a "gift" of music

I sent a "gift" of music consisting of 2 songs to a friend... when he opened the email from itunes, it said to press the redeem now button... however, it was non exsistant. This is the second time this has happened to me. What do I do now?

I had the same thing happen to me but I was one the who received the gift. I opened iTunes and went to the Home page. I scrolled down to the bottom of the page. I clicked on Support and got sent to a page called, "On your way to support?" It somehow knew that I didn't get my music. I clicked on the Download Now button, signed into my dotmac account and it downloaded immediately! I hope that works for you.

I thought So too but then I went to Itunes Library and try and buy a single song from an album for $1.29. Now my Itunes Gift card balance is $ 7.10 as I mentioned earlier. it still did not let me buy and kept trying billing my Visa card.
Should I restart my PC and Itunes and retry. What do you suggest?

I redeemed my gift card on one computer, how do I transfer the balance to another?

I redeemed my gift card on one computer, but when I try to by music on my other computer, it asks for my credit card information. So I am guessing I need to some how transfer the balance on the card to the other computer? I assumed it would be there on both since it is the same account on both?
Anyone have ideas?

A couple of questions for you...
Did you get an email confirming the card had been successfully redeemed? Is it possible you've changed iTunes store since you redeemed the gift card? The gift card can only be used within the iTunes store it was purchased / redeemed. If you're still in the same store, then try logging out of your iTunes account and logging back in. That should reset the balance.
The balance should be visible when you're browsing within the store (on the bar towards the top of the screen on the right hand side - next to the ID you've logged in to the store with.
If you're still not happy with the results, the iTunes Store Billing support staff will be able to give you a definitive answer on your account balance. I don't know where you are, so here are links to the US and UK support pages:

I have redeemed a gift card and this is showing as my itunes balance but when I try and download an app it won't let me

I redeemed a gift card on to my daughters Itunes account however everything she downloaded came off my credit card. I have now marked this as NONE expecting this resolve the situation, however now when she tries to buy music or apps it won't let her. We can see her balance on the laptop but not on her IPOD Touch 5. Can anyone help?

The gift of music: burning a disc for friends

I wonder if anyone can advise me here.
I want to burn a music CD and give it as a gift to my friend.
Can anyone advise me on where I stand, legally, in the following cases:
1. I own the music, my friend does not.
2. I own the music, my friend also owns the music.
3. My friend owns the music, I do not.
The first two are quite straightforward. The last is a little more complicated.
Say, for example, my friend wanted a CD of their own music burned. Is there a way they could grant me access to those files to burn it for them - I would never listen to the files myself, and they would own the disc.
This started as a practical idea, but now I am just interested in where DRM and the law stands with this sort of thing, in theory.
Any thoughts or references appreciated!

Do you have any idea where I'd need to look to attempt to verify that? Which Terms and conditions I'd be having to dig up, for example. I assume its a little outside the scope of iTunes T&Cs.
You would have to consult UK copyright law, or a copyright lawyer, since it's primarily a legal issue rather than a contractual one. I doubt that it will be worth your time and effort (and certainly not the expense of consulting a lawyer). As long as you don't keep the tracks yourself in any way and don't give the burned CD or copies of the tracks to anyone else other than the friend who owns them (or worst of all make them available via a web site or P2P network), no one will bother you about the issue.
Also, since you appear to have some knowledge of the area... do you have any thoughts on giving MP3s as gifts? Is it possible for me to purchase an mp3, with the intention of giving ownership of it to another party? Or buy it on their behalf, for instance.
In most cases no, the terms of use of the download store do not allow that. The terminology usually says that the purchase "is for your personal use only" and do not provide for any transfer of ownership. Some stores, such as the iTunes Store, allow you to give someone a track or album - they get a code which they can redeem and download the track themselves - so that is usually the best option. Note that the iTunes Store does not sell tracks in MP3 format; it probably won't be a problem, though, unless the person you wish to give the gift cannot for some reason use iTunes (in which case they couldn't redeem the gift anyway).

I redeemed a gift card in the store. I clicked buy and I was told the item was purchased. I also checked and the card was redeemed. However, I can't find the music. Where did it go?

On the left hand side panel of itunes there should be a section called "purchased". It should be about in the middle of the pannel. Click on it and your item should be in there. Or you could check the music section of the pannel, and scroll through the list, if you see a song with a check mark next to it it might be the song you just purchased.
If you were refering to where did your music section in the left hand side pannel go, click on (top of screen) edit>preferences> and you should see a couple list like music,apps, movies etc. each with a check box next to them, click on music if it doesnt have a check mark on it, and the music section shuld pop up.
I couldnt tell which one it was, but i hope i helped, if i did not, could you take a screenshot and post it, if you do not mind? It would be easier for me to help you out if i did not do so already.

HELP!!!! An Internal Server Error Has Occurred when I try to redeem a gift.

When I try to redeem a 'gifted' album, I end up with a blank page with this message at the top:
An Internal Server Error Has Occurred.
When I try to "report a problem" the same page appears, even on a different computer.
When I try to "Report a Problem" in my account on iTunes, there is no field to type in my details.
I have tried to ring Apple, and they say they cannot support iTunes, and that all complaints have to go through the web site. HELP!!!!

Unfortunately, this is the wrong forum for you. This forum is for those of us involved with Apple's iTunes U ("University"). iTunes U is a way for colleges and universities to post content within the iTunes Store. None of us here can help you resolve a money issue with the iTunes Store, must as we'd like to. Only Duncan works for Apple ... the rest of us work for colleges and universities all over the world and we have little control over your Apple account(s).
But, to be honest, I'd be pretty shocked that a call to Apple could not help you resolve this kind of problem. Compared to other tech companies, Apple is exceptional in its phone support. If it's helpful, this page:

HT5035 What happens to previous balance when redeeming a gift card?

Last week I had a little over $5 on my account. I purchased a $15 gift card to buy more music. When I redeemed the gift card, my account showed the $15 but not the additional $5. What happened to the other money? I had this happen once before but only had around $1 left so didn't worry about it, but if this happens every time I buy a gift card, I wont be buying any more.
I have checked other similar threads and the only response I have seen is to look at history. The history does show what was purchased but I don't see anything showing balances as those purchased or gift card redemptions are made. Any help would be appreciated.

Unable to redeem itunes gift card

I have an itunes gift card, I was able to redeem it and purchase music bought about two songs and the balance went down as usual. Then bought more and the balance did not go down, checked my bank account and I have itunes charges pending went back to check the balance and the card info was gone. I try to redeem the card again and the error reads, "this card has already been redeemed." I have resarted the phone, logged out of my account and signed back in and nothing I have have emailed support awaiting a reply.

Why when I redeemed a gift card on my ipad and rented a film was I charged from my account and not the card?

I was given a gift card and on the back it said I should go to music on my device and to the bottom of the page and click redeem. I did and entered the number on the card. I then went to films to rent a film and have received a receipt for a payment taken from my card. What did I do wrong? Is it indeed worth having these gift cards if I don't want to download music?

I have the same problem as I first redeemed my gift card on my ipad and I can see the credit through itunes, but when I tried to purchase an app for my mac it appeared that my gift card has already been redeemed. The App Store gift card said it can be used on downloading any apps to iPad, iPhone, Mac.
