Redeploy precompiled JSPs to managed server in exploded format without incurring a JSP recompile
How do you redeploy precompiled JSPs to a managed server in exploded format without
incurring a JSP recompile?
Our application is deployed in Two Phase, Stage mode, Exploded Format. We regularly
update JSPs on our Production application and would like to be able to redeploy
JSPs without incurring the JSP recompile. I am able to precompile JSPs and redeploy
the JSP and compiled JSP to the managed server, but the updated page is still
recompiled.
I've searched the BEA site, newsgroups, and web and still need some help.
Additional information:
- precompile in web.xml is false. we'd prefer not to precompile all the jsps
at startup to minimize Production downtimes when deploying new major releases
- the compiled JSPs reside in ~/classes/jsp_servlet and not ~/WEB-INF/classes/jsp_servlet
- our directory structure looks like:
~/app
/META-INF
/WEB-INF
/classes ( compiled source )
/hotwire ( java class files )
/jsp_servlet ( compiled jsps )
~/deploy ( property files )
/prod
/web.xml
/weblogic.xml
~/src ( java files )
hotwire/
I found this information on the BEA newsgroup ( http://newsgroups.bea.com/cgi-bin/dnewsweb?cmd=article&group=weblogic.developer.interest.jsp&item=582&utag=
) regarding the _isStale() method for compiled JSPs, but wasn't able to get it
to work when the file was in the exact same path ( note: compilation occurred
on a different machine than the managed view server )
Do we have to store our compiled JSP files under /WEB-INF/classes for this feature
to work and in a WAR?
What am I missing?
Regards,
Paul
Hi Mark,
Thank you for replying and logging the CR. I've read lots of your posts in researching
this issue and was hoping you'd reply.
I used the JSP Precompile Validation Utility ( http://dev2dev.bea.com/resourcelibrary/utilitiestools/adminmgmt.jsp
) and tested against WLS8.1sp2 and agree with your assessment. The JSP Time utility
indicates that the JSP and compiled class are in agreement, yet the server always
recompiled the JSP after I redeployed that particular file and class. I opened
Case Ticket #: 473459 that includes a test script, output, and lots of information.
It's currently being investigated. I'll inform the BEA Relations engineer and
add my name to the CR you opened.
Dynamic content updates without recompiles is something we'd really like to be
able to do. We are hoping to be able to do specific frequent content updates
in the afternoon as opposed to 1:00 AM :)
Thanks again,
Paul

So this is a scenario that we should support Paul.
There are a couple of issues.
1) I dont think our weblogic.Deployer api currently does a very good
job of
this at all, since it is MOSTLY concerned with redeployment of applications
and modules, and in this scenario you dont want app redpeloyment you
just
want what are essentially content files distributed. In otherwords the
api
I worry wont help you distributing files for this case, at least in this
current release and SP.
2) once you get the files to the location, things should in the servlet
containers.
Having said that it is easier if you are able to have the application's
deployed with -no-stage, or no-copying, or shared application, that way
you
have one location to copy files to vs. many stage dirs. Either way you'll
have to copy the jsp's and the classfiles to the webapp directories.
Additionally I just tried this on 8.1. sp2 and the stale-check by the
servlet container is busted. :( I opened a bug on this: CR133453.
Not
sure if this is in sp1 or not, didnt have time to check it. I suggest
you
contact support and get your name added to this CR to raise its priority.

Hot swap and JSP debugging for Weblogic in exploded format?
Hi,
I'm trying to use JDeveloper for JSF development to be deployed to a weblogic server.
I must say JDeveloper is a great tool for JSF development as none of the free IDE in the market can do what JDeveloper does.
However, I have a question on hot swap and JSP debugging.
I have managed to setup JDeveloper to debug my JSF application deploy to my Weblogic server's applications folder in exploded format.
I can step through the java code.
However, I didn't manage to do a hot swap and the break point set in the JSF-JSP does not seems to take effect.
I would appreciate any advice on the problem.
Thanks.
Han MingHow did you setup the server to handle exploded format? Appreciate the help. Sorry can't help with your question though.
Thnx.

Dynamic deployed web application doesnt' work in managed server
Hi:
Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong:
1. I create a new web application DYNAMICALLY (i.e. copy directory to
applications directory)
2. I assigned one of the managed server as target for the new
application
3. Restart managed server
4. Try to access the new application in managed server, and get error
message:
10.4.5 404 Not Found
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is
given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the
client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone)
status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally
configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and
has no forwarding address.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
AlexSee my answer to your last post. The short answer is that the HttpClusterServlet is
likely to be the problem and not the cluster. You can try one of the web server plugins
or a hardware load balancer as a temporary workaround. You should file a case with
support too...

Error message seen when starting a managed server (dsp_config.ear)
Hi ,
I am having issues when i start the managed server under the admin server.
Seems like when i undeploy dsp_config.ear the managed server seems to start without any issues.
But since the dsp_config.ear is removed the dspconsole is messed up.
The admin server runs fine without any issues with or without dsp_config.ear deployment.

Can anybody help me on this one?
it seems more of ODSI issue than weblogic server issue.it sounds like you are deploying dsp_config.ear to a domain/server that is not ODSI-enabled.
com.bea.wli.config.deployment.server.ServerVersion is in <modules>/com.bea.common.configfwk.wlinterop_10.3.0.0.jar which is referenced by <modules>/features/odsi.server.modules_10.3.0.0.xml and used by com.bea.dsp.management.impl.DomainServiceImpl -
Starting managed server in MSI mode
Is it possible to access an application deployed on a managed server which is started in MSI mode(Admin server is stopped)??
Hi,
MSI mode just says that the Managed Server Can be started without the AdminServer Running. But the Application Serving functionality wise there is no difference. So even if your Managed Server is running on MSI mode ..it will serve the Application as it could server with Non-MSI mode.
So Yes, The Application can be accessed from the ManagedServer which is running in a MSI mode.
Thanks

Managed server taking 15-25 minute to start with SOA/ADF/BPM application installed on it
Hi,
We are seeing issue with our Prod/non prod environment where Admin server is getting started in 5 minute which is normal but managed server(clustering) or non clustering environment are takiing 15-25 minute to start. We are using weblogic 10.3.6 installed on Solaris 11 64 bit server. Our managed server contain SOA 11g and BPM composites.
I have checked through the logs and other file but dont see any error, could someone please suggest me if this normal behavior or something is wrong with installation.
though this is not impacting anything but during maintenance window, its taking hour + for a claim restart.Hi - Thanks for your reply.
I have checked through my server directory and can see weblogic.xml file under
./wlserver_10.3/server/lib/consoleapp/webapp/WEB-INF/weblogic.xml
while scanning this file, I dont see any attribute which talks about precompile as true.
do I need to add this paramater in this file as
<jsp-descriptor>
<precompile>true</precompile>
</jsp-descriptor>
please advise. -

Sync files across the Managed Server.
We have exploded war deployed in the Weblogic Cluster and in this there is a feature which would create a zip file in the exploded folder and this zip file will be downloaded through the URL. Now the problem in clustered environment is when the application write the zip file which will be available in only one of the managed server and when we try to download the zip file through the LoadBalancer URL it may not hit the same Managed Server in which the zip file is available.
Is there a way in weblogic cluster to sync the files across all the managed server so that we can access the file through loadbalancer.Hi Suresh
1. Your issue has nothing to do with the cluster setup and the way you deploy the application (as EAR or Exploded). Basically in your application, you generate a file and automatically that gets stored in that machines location. Now when you access it from a load balancer, the request may go to other machine and naturally it will not find the file there. There is nothing in the cluster setup or something that can copy the files and replicate acorss the machines. Infact that will be way too complex. I will couple of solutions.
2. Create a shared folder like public folder. Say in Windows, create a folder with some folder structure and map it as say X: Drive. now this X Drive can be accessed from any other machine like Machine1, Machine2 (after setting the sharing properties). First try directly from Windows Explorer itself. Now within your application, when you generate and store the file, refer this X: Drive with full path. You can make it more flexible by using a .properties file that has key value pair. Key is like FILE_LOCATION and value can be like X:\a\b\c. Now using simple Java Properties class API to load the contents from this file. You can add all the constants, check for if .properties file exist like that. Once you have all the properties loaded, then refer this key, to get its value and use that to store the file generated. Use the same approach, while retrieving the file also. Use the key to get the location and then look for the file you want to download. This should work, when the request goes to any managed server in the cluster. I used it. I created a utility class like MyAppPropertiesLoader, with some static methods, that reads the file only once, if it is null, and then get values using simle methods like getString(String aKey), getLong(String aKey) etc. The huge BENEFIT of this is, once you deploy the application say in Unix, natually, the shared location has to be one of the unix boxes. Then just mount this location on both the managed servers (mount is similar to mapping a drive in Windows OS). Also the location of the files can be changed anytime in the properties file. Say in QC, the location may be X:\a\b\c\qc. But for UAT on Unix it can be like /x/y/z/uat/. Now this .properties file can exist directly under the Domain root folder so you can access it directly without any path in your java code. You can also use System properties like user.home etc. Make sure to copy this .properties file on both the domains. The original master domain. And the psueduo domain that is generated when you run the unpack command if you have managed server in another machine.
3. This is much simpler but kind of not recommended. Simply, create a simple table with few header columns and one BLOB/CLOB column. Store the file in this database table and retrieve from it. This means you will have JDBC code, and the code to create clob to store and generate file from clob for retrieval.
My preference is the first option given above. Getting tools to copy files may be complex. Its not like syncing the data across but its the files that needs to be copied across the machines.

Programming Managed Server to Server Communication
Hi
We have a start up class that sets system properties used by our EJB's. We would like to be able to call a class that reloads these properties at any time without having to restart the server.
We tried using JMX, but we had problems with the MBean calling down to classes in our EAR. Since they were loaded by different classloaders. We also would try like to keep the system classpath clean as possible.
Currently we have a solution using a Stateless Session Bean, but this will only set the properties on the Manager Server that it is running on. So I was wondering if it is possible to communicate from one Managed Server to another as I would like to be able to call the same Bean on any other Managed Server that is running.
Declan O'Reilly
PS: If there is a better way to solve to problem in general, I would be delighted to hear.hi,
One solution here could be to deploy the modifying component ( see below for details ) on the admin server. Set the properties that should be configurable in the JNDI tree, ensure that these properties are set in a replicated context. The settings will then be replicated in the cluster to all the managed servers participating in the cluster.
As for the modifying component, you could go for MBeans, JSPs or web-services. For this kind of configuration I would choose between mbeans or JSPs depending on the type of usage this modifying component will have.

OHS not able to redirect to two different ports of the same managed server
Hi
I need to redirect to different ports of the same managed server (say M1, M2) based on the availability of the managed server. ie when managed server M1 is busy handling other requests i need to redirect my new request to M2. i already have this mechanism to find out which managed server is free.
so now the problem is if M2 is free how would i tell ohs to redirect it to M2 server??
M1,M2 both managed servers are hosted at host1.example.com.
M1 port - 8001
M2 port - 8003
my context root is /YpsSupplyPlanningEngineService/supplyPlanningEngineService
my mod_wl_ohs.conf is defined as:
<Location /M1/YpsSupplyPlanningEngineService/supplyPlanningEngineService>
SetHandler weblogic-handler
PathTrim /M1
WebLogicHost host1.example.com
WebLogicPort 8001
</Location>
<Location /M2/YpsSupplyPlanningEngineService/supplyPlanningEngineService>
SetHandler weblogic-handler
PathTrim /M2
WebLogicHost host1.example.com
WebLogicPort 8003
</Location>
when i type the url in browser as "http://<ohs_server_url>:7777/M2/YpsSupplyPlanningEngineService/supplyPlanningEngineService"
This is not working. Is there any way to do it?
Please help me here.
Thanks in advance.

thanks for replying..

How to get IP address of the Managed Server, in a cluster?
Hello,
I have created a cluster and have two managed servers in it. WLS version is 10.3 and paltform is Windows. Both the managed servers are on different machines. And I have Sun one web server (version 6) configured instead of the WLS in-built web server. I want to display, in my JSP, the IP/host name of the managed server to which the request is going to (forwarded by the Sun one server). How do I do that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advace.
Thanks,
SanjayThere isint a way to get this which is weblogic specific.
you can try the following code to get it
import java.util.*;
import java.lang.*;
import java.net.*;
public class GetOwnIP
public static void main(String args[]) {
try{
InetAddress ownIP=InetAddress.getLocalHost();
System.out.println("IP of my system is := "+ownIP.getHostAddress());
System.out.println("hostname = " + ownIP.getHostName());
}catch (Exception e){
System.out.println("Exception caught ="+e.getMessage());
Hope this works -
