Redirecting a web address

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me?
I've bought a web address for my family website and want to direct it to my .mac website. When I emailed the address people (sorry, don't know the technical term) re this they replied:
"Thanks for your email. With a domain with DNS order we can only make changes to the DNS. This means that we can only point your website to an IP address of your host. In this case it would be an IP address for web.mac.com. It would then be up to that host to make the appropriate changes to direct
any request for (web address I've bought) to (my web.mac site address) which is generally something a service provider will not do."
Er, I've no idea what I need to do next - I've had a quick look at help but have been unable to find anything (though I will carry on looking). Do I need to email someone at mac to get them to redirect from web.mac.com to my personal site?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you
Nikki

Who did you buy your domain name from? This is the first time I've ever heard of one of these companies refusing to point your domain to the specific url.

  • Safari redirecting web addresses

Since the iOS new update 8.1.2 both our iPhones when searching in Safari take us directing to our Centurylink configuration set up page.  It's only certain websites.  Like target.com, toyrus.com, foxnews.com to name a few.  I can go to google.com, search for target and those other websites, but when i click on the link, i'm redirected to our century link's main configuration page.
I spent all of Sunday on the phone with apple support and centurylink.  Apple support had me reset all network settings, cookies, history etc, then determined that it had to be centurylink blocking certain pages.  Centurylink went through their diagnostics, said nothing was blocked but agreed to send me a brand new router to rule that out.  after setting up my brand new router (not changing ANYTHING) other than setting up wifi and passwords, our phones STILL take us to the configuration page.  Our computers, iPad Air 2 and iPad 1 have no issues.  The iPad air 2 has not had the recent IOS update because we noticed this problem and have been scared to update it.  BUT here is another kicker, I can go to work and connect on their wifi, who also has centurylink wifi and i can access all the pages that usually give me troubles.
Also, lastnight i took my iPhone 6 and reset it to factory settings to see if this would help.  I loaded the phone as a brand new phone, didn't DO ANYTHING other then connect to my wifi.  Then went straight to safari and did a quick search for target.com.  Straight to our centurylink configuration page.
I am at a complete lose.  Anyone have any ideas or help?  My main contact at apple is out of the office, but she stated they would just send new phones.  I don't think this is necessary and want to exhaust all options first.
    Ideas?  Thanks in advance

Show Toolbar is in place and functioning. When I right click on the title the web address appears. That is not the problem. I want to be able to copy and paste a web address. For example, if I am sending someone an email, I would like to be able to copy and paste the web address and have that appear in the email as a hyperlink. I used to be able to do that with earlier versions of Safari, but with this latest version I can't.
    thanks,

  • Icloud web address redirects to setup. Why and how to fix?

Hello.  My problem is that any  browser on my first generation IPad takes here when I type in my me.com, icloud.com, mac.com address:
    https://www.icloud.com/ipad_welcome/
    Same in Safari, Chrome, Atom.....
Note that I am not talking about the Mail app on either IPad or the Mac.
I just wanted to go to the web version, as I have in the past on public machines and on my Mac.
On my Mac, I get to icloud.com and can see all the things normally there, such as Calendars, Mail, Pages, etc.
    1. On both the IPad and Mac, I have Icloud enabled.
The  setting I use for mail ( in the apps themselves) is me.com on the Mac and mac.com on the IPad, I think.
2.Am I correct that regardless of the app settings or Icloud being enabled, the web address SHOULD appear? After all, it has in the past on public computers.
    3. If so, it is unclear why only my IPad and not my Mac won't take me to the web address?  I mean to check a public machine this week to confirm.
    4. Regardless what the answer is, can anyone explain how turning on icloud for mail makes any difference if I am using imap?  I can see syncing other things suxh as Calendar, but in mail IMAP seems to obviate the need for syncing.
(Actually, since updating to Mavericks, I beleive my Mac app stopped syncing with my Ipad and web icloud versions. Sme happened many moons ago.  Until then, Mac and Ipad resident calendar programs, as well as icloud version, were the same.)
    thanks
    PS
    (modified)
I just checked my apple id on the Ipad and it ia set for [email protected] If I sign in at icloud, i see me.com and icloud.com are listed as alternative addresses. with mac.com being primary.

thank yo snozdop...did'nt know that. thanks.  as to the reason to do it...with 6 different email addresses in my mail app, when away i want to be extra careful and send from the correct one.  many a time i have sent from something other than the mac address.
    thanks.
    JimHDK
thanks for the tip. If that works with the web version (snozdop implies it may not) great.
btw, can anyone help explain the difference between syncing in icloud with mail and with imap. imap seems more than enough.

  • Do I need to insert meta tags on domain if it redirects to web.mac page?

    Hi,
I've set up a domain (http://www.blossomsolutions.ca) with Internic.ca in Canada and filled out a very easy form to redirect to http://web.mac.com/blossomsolutions. Through this excellent forum I learned how to insert meta tags into all my pages on the web.mac site using text edit successfully.
Now, I'm wondering, will search engines find me if I have "no code" or meta tags at www.blossomsolutions.ca? Internic is only "redirecting" my URL not hosting it. It costs more money if they "host" my domain and I wouldn't have a clue how to set up an index.html page anyway for this domain. Even if I got someone to do this can you redirect an index.html page from blossomsolutions.ca to a web.mac.com page? i.e. does the domain code need to be empty in order for it to redirect?
Thanks to anyone who can help me with this.
    Dazed and confused,
    Kathleen

    Hello Kathleen,
Welcome to the forum. You're site looks very clean and elegant.
The domain name you purchased (http://www.blossomsolutions.ca/) is serving as a redirecting page to your iWeb generated web page. The answer to whether or not search engines will find you is both yes and no. Search engines use programs called "spiders" that find pages through links and trace out web pages.
Given some time, sites like Google and MSN will likely find you website (and if you put meta tags in it will display that info in the search engine). But if you are like most iWeb users (myself included) you are impatient for your site to be picked up in search engines. Which is fine, since several search engines provide the means for you to submit your URL. Read this post for more information. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3905977&#3905977
Looks like you may have already submitted your .mac page.
Another handy tip for looking up what information a search engine posses on your site is to type "site:" followed by the web address you wish to look up into a search engine. If the search engine has any of the pages to your site it will display them with the meta data they posses. Your site info can be found here. http://www.google.com/search?q=site:http://web.mac.com/blossomsolutions
I checked your .ca address and google didn't come up with anything.
Internic.ca should provide you with the means to apply a little bit of a description to your web address. Apart from that, you can't really add any meta data to the domain name.
Unfortunately even when you get both web addresses picked up by search engines it won't associate them together. They may come up near each other in searches. But the search engine will see them as entirely different sites.
You could host your site at the domain name if you chose to. The process of publishing is one click like to .mac. But you "Publish to a Folder" and then upload the complete page to the domain name. Its more difficult and cost more (if you chose to retain your .mac account) but it would give you better search engine rankings for your name.
—"It costs more money if they "host" my domain and I wouldn't have a clue how to set up an index.html page anyway for this domain. Even if I got someone to do this can you redirect an index.html page from blossomsolutions.ca to a web.mac.com page? i.e. does the domain code need to be empty in order for it to redirect?"
It isn't really worth it have them host your domain name only to put an index.html that redirects to your .mac. Thats basically what the domain forwarding is doing (minus a little bit of info).
My advice is to keep things how you have them. But, just make sure you get the domain submitted to search engines.
Hope this wasn't to long or confusing.

  • Redirection in web dispatcher

    Dear Experts,
I have ABAP backend system and I need to open it to internet. Doing so, I have implemented web dispatcher that is running in DMZ. Up to this point everything went on as desired, but one thing.
When I call the URL http://teidom.com:60000 then it redirects to the target host with the local address http://<localhost>.teidom.local:8000/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui. Hereby this is not possible to call the page from internet. This is working only in local network, not in internet. In order to call and view the page from internet, the address has to be intact with no address redirection.
Just to get you closer to understand the situation, here below I wrote down the parameters which I defined for Web Dispatcher (sapwebdisp.pfl).
    SAPGLOBALHOST = WebServerRack
    SAPSYSTEM = 02
    INSTANCE_NAME = W02
    DIR_CT_RUN = C:\WebDisp\NTI3867
    DIR_EXECUTABLE = C:\WebDisp\NTI3867
    Accesssability of Message Server
    rdisp/mshost = backsvr.teidom.local
    ms/http_port = 8100
    Configuration for medium scenario
    icm/max_conn = 500
    icm/max_sockets = 1024
    icm/req_queue_len = 5003
    icm/min_threads = 10
    icm/max_threads = 50
    mpi/total_size_MB = 80
    SAP Web Dispatcher Ports
    #icm/server_port_0 = PROT=HTTP,PORT=81$$
    icm/server_port_0 = PROT=HTTP,PORT=60001
    icm/HTTP/redirect_0= PREFIX=/, PORT=8000, PROT=HTTP, TO=/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui, HOST=backsvr.teidom.local
    Kind Regards,
    Taner Guler

    Hi Matt,
It is very kind of you commenting on the subject.
I just want to be sure of the problem that I am facing. My problem is when I call the URL http://teidom.com:60000 from the internet; it is supposed to view the page (information) from ABAP system. But it couldn't.
Web dispatcher is running on the host named 'webdispsvr'
In the firewall I set port 60000 open from internet to web dispatcher server
And in the other firewall (at the back) I set port 8000 open to R3 ABAP system which supplies information to internet.
After setting up the web dispatcher profile according to (thanks Olivier) instructions from help.sap.com
At next stage I started to test
First I tested it in local by URL http://webdispsvr:60000 it works and web browser views the ABAP login windows. From this point of the subject one thing that took my attention was, after pushing enter button for URL http://webdispsvr:60000 then it directly turns to address URL http://<localhost>.teidom.local:8000/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui -- <localhost> is a host of where R3 ABAP system runs on (the address redirects to local address which is not wanted situation in the internet as long as it redirects to local URL address)
Second test was in the internet
Behaviour of the system is same nothing changed
When I call URL http://teidom.com:60000, as it happens in local test, it redirects the URL to http://<localhost>.teidom.local:8000/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui for this reason page could not be viewed when it is called from the internet.
I hope above information is clear enough to get you understand how bad situation I am in.
Isn’t there a way out of this struggle?
Thanks all of you for your great contribution to the situation.
    Regards,
    Taner

  • IWeb web addresses

Ok, so I published my site with iWeb '08 and the web address is web.me.com/emailaddress...etc. I need a shorter web address so that people can remember it. I was watching the '09 tutorial and it showed that when publishing you could type in your own web address (lizinfocus.com is the one used for the tutorial). However, in the same tutorial, when the pop-up window appeared to view site or announce it, the window still showed the web address as web.me.com/emailaddress/lizinfocus.
I'm curious, is there some way that I can buy the domain name that I want and when people type it, they are redirected to my iWeb website? Or does this happen in iWeb '09 automatically? For example, if someone were to type in lizinfocus.com (from the tutorial) would they be redirected to her super long iWeb address?
I would be fine with this as long as I could keep the web address simple and easy to remember. Thank you.

Dominic ~ Yes, this article explains using domain names with iWeb:

iWeb '09 did not change the way domain names are set up. See this Apple article:

  • BT Web Address Help service, i dont want BT interc...

Hi Guys, I came accross this service yesterday when trying to navigate to a URL that is no longer valid, after doing this i was redirected to a BT Web page saying the URL is invalid and suggesting some alternative pages for me rather than just getting the usual page not found msg from the web browser, i understand this could be a usefull service but i do not appreciate BT hijacking my search information without my express permission even if it is to help me, anyway a quick google search gave me 1 link with instructions of how to disable this service, I cannot find any official information from BT on any of its own sites with regards to this service, it totally smacks of the secret phorm trial that BT was running some time ago. anyway if this happens to you here is a link to the page that helped me to disable it if you so wish.

    Hi all
Web Address Help is a new service launched by BT which provides useful search results in place of an error message when a URL has been typed incorrectly. Customers are automatically given Web Address Help unless they tell us they don’t want it. It is easy to opt out if you would prefer not to have this service.
We have further information about Web Address Help on our Help pages on BT.com.  This page contains clear instructions on how to opt out.  Please use this link to find out more:  http://www.bt.com/help/webaddresshelp

  • Backup Assistant Web address book

I can't find the  Backup Assistant Web address book... I follow the FAQ and only get to the info page not my address book... Please help.

    Good morning CZimmer45,
Please accept my apologies if it's difficult to find your contacts on backup assistant online at My Verizon. I used to share this same struggle when trying to locate my contacts online. There are two ways to access your contacts online. You can log into your account using the link below, which will direct you right to your contacts.
getbackupnow.com (without the www in front)
Another option is to log into www.verizonwireless.com and highlight My Verizon on the red banner. Under the My Device column, simply select Backup Assistant and you will be redirected to you contacts online.
If you have any questions or concerns then feel free to reply to this message so I can further assist!
    Thank you...

  • In version 3.6 I can not open a website link from original page, I keep getting a new window that is blank and asking me to put in a web address. What has changed with the new version?

When on a page if I click on a web link I get a new window that is blank and asks me enter a web address. This started happening with the new 3.6 version. It seems to have something to do with what I choose for the location in my privacy settings as the window changes with each setting but I still cannot get to the new site. Any ideas? I have no problem with this in IE and I have to keep opening IE when I encounter the problem on Firefox which is annoying.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • What is the difference between https: and http: at the beginning of the web address? Does this effect security when looking onto bank accounts?

New to foxfire, and not very computer savvy. When enter search for bank account noticed the the web address came up with a http: rather than an https: as it normally does when I search from safari on MAC, or even at my PC at work. Not sure what the difference is but if it is a security thing than foxfire is no good for my use.

In Firefox 4 and later you no longer have the Status bar that showed the padlock in previous Firefox versions.<br />
The padlock only shows that there is a secure connection and doesn't guarantee that you are connected to the right server.<br />
So you might still be connected to the wrong server if you make a typo in the URL and someone has claimed that mistyped URL.<br />
The functionality of the padlock has been replaced by the [[Site Identity Button]] on the left end of the location bar.<br />

  • How do I set the enter button on my keyboard to go to websites after I have entered the web address

After I type in the web address and hit enter it doesnt go to the site. I have to manually use the mouse and click the button to proceed to the web site. On all of my old versions i would type the web address and click enter and it would take me to the site.

    Hi goldowskin,
I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
    Hopefully this helps!

If you mean from the Safari menubar item "Popular"
Choose "Show All Bookmarks" from the Bookmark menu in the main menubar, or click the icon for that in Safari's menubar -
The page that opens should show a list of Bookmarks. In the Left column, click the item under Collections named Bookmarks Bar.
In the new view, locate the folder named Popular and click the reveal triagle to the left of its name - it will open and reveal all the items listed in Popular.
Find the one you want to remove, click it once to select it, then press the Delete key on the keyboard.

  • How do I display the web address within Adobe PDF Reader 10 & IE 9 64-bit?

Until a week ago, I was using IE 9 32-bit version together with Adobe PDF Reader 10.    When I would try to open a PDF file from within the browser, it would and the Web Address would continue to display at the top of the window while browing the PDF document.  I could then continue using IE 9 and move on to other pages and etc...
Now, I have swtiched to using the IE 9 64-bit version.  What happens now is that when I enter an address in the web browser and it's a direct link to a PDF file  example:   https://www.technicalindicatorindex.com/newsletter/bpdf/TII_Newsletter_1686a_10.11.11_7055 475115.pdf   ), it opens up with no problems, but I no longer see the IE 9 Web Address shown anywhere.  So in essence, that page becomes a Adobe PDF program window and I loose my IE 9 access.   I guess the PDF files are no longer displayed within the browser (althought I have it check ON).
    Am I missing something?

I did write there, but no replies
I guess that with Adobe Reader 10.1.1 running with IE 9.x in x64 bit mode, you cannot open the PDF within explorer, as it does it outside it as a separate Window?
    Correct?
