Redirecting an iWeb site

Hi
I have uploaded a iWeb created website to a MobileMe account, but I've since purchased a new domain name. I'd like to point this new (less spurious) website address to my MobileMe created site. Any clues as to how I do this?
Thanks in advance

Here are some posts regarding the subject and what each type of forwarding mentioned above will look like:

  • Adding a 404 redirect in Iweb-Site

Can I ad a 404 redirect to Iweb in one way ore the other

Opening with a HTML editor is not so good a think becauseyou have to do that every time you make a change on the site ??
    Yes.
Is it not possible to do that with Iweb Seotool
No because it's the same as opening the page yourself and paste the code.
like this, adding the tekst to the complete site : below is the added tekstfragment
You added the JavaScript after the Analytics JavaScript. That should work.
I just looked at what this 404 JavaScript does. According to this page :
    http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=nl&answer=136085
it's a script that you add to a 404 page. It gives the visitor an explanation of why he landed on the page.
It's NOT the same as the 404 directive in a .htaccess file.
With the 404 directive you tell the webserver which page to display when the requested page is missing.
    I use a custom 404 page :
    http://dailynews.webege.com/missing.html
    with this Directive :
    ErrorDocument 404 /missing.html
    Here's a 404 page at RoughlyDrafted :

  • How can I make my old Homepage take me directly to my new iWeb site???

Is there I way I can have it so people don't first have to "land on" a .Mac homepage and then push a "button" to get to the new iWeb site?
It would be GREAT if anyone knew a way to do this... I am so excited with my new site, but need it to replace my old .Mac homepage (or at least make it so people are automatically redirected to the new iWeb page)
    Anyone have some ideas??
    Max

They should go all back into the green Purchased playlist when you make another purchase.
How can I get it back into a playlist other than dragging each song
Make a Smart playlist and set it to Kind contains Purchased, then you won't have to drag any songs.
    I have over 3500 purchased
    Really?
    3500 purchased songs?

  • Autoforward one page in iWeb site to .Mac gallery?

Does anyone know if there is a way to have one of your iWeb pages autoforward to another site? I would like my "Picture" page in my iWeb site to automatically forward to my .Mac gallery, rather than force people to have to click the link.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thank you!

Here's another way to do it and it will be automatic, no viewer effort required: add the following code to the head portion of your Pictures page after publishing it:
    <meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0;url=http://www.the-domain-you-want-to-redirect-to.com">.
Replace the “0” with the number of seconds you would like to pass before the redirection takes place. Put in the URL of your destination site.
Any time you make changes to that particular page or use the Publish All to MobileMe you will have to reedit that page. This page demonstrates the effect.
The demo is set to go to another page in the site but you can send the visitor to any URL you desire.

  • What is the maximum number of pages  in an iweb site

Is there a limit to the number of pages I can put in my iweb site?
I managed 30 but ran out of room in the nav bar for more pages.
    Thanks for helping

Roddy's reply woke me up to the fact that my demo sites are seemingly all one site but in actuality are 5 separate sites in one domain file.
Site 1 - Contents which is the page listing for all of the other 4 sites.
Site 2-5 - each of these sites has their own navbar, In that navbar is a Contents page which is a Redirect to the Contents site.
This lets me modify one site, i.e. add or remove a page, and only have to change the Contents site to update the change in all sites. There are numerous ways you can arrange the Contents page.
    This is what it looks like in iWeb;
However, if you have a domain name it will apply to only one of the sites, like the Contents sites which would be the gateway to the other sites
Just one of many ways you can group pages so that they don't all have to be displayed in the navbar of every page.

  • .mac iWeb site with yahoo domain- much trouble

I have 5 websites made with iweb hosted by .mac.
I just got a yahoo domain name, (organizedmayhemmusic.com).
I want to set that domain name to only one of my sites within iWeb,
but I'm having allot of trouble. Right now I have my yahoo domain settings
set to a masked forward, but I'd like it to work how I originally intended it to.
Which would be when you go to (www.organizedmayhemmusic.com) it shows my iweb site
without any weird stuff or tricks or redirects, if possible. Under yahoo Advanced DNS Settings
I added a record, and it asks for a source, and destination. The source example was
info.thesitename.com. but I don't want any thing in front of it, I'm actually still confused on
all of that. I ended up setting the source to (www), and the destination to (web.mac.com).
Then I created the settings on the .mac account page for a personal domain. And after I typed in
my address it got me to (www.organizedmayhemmusic.com/OrganizedMayhem/OrganizedMayhem.html)
Its my iweb site adress but it replaced web.mac.com with my new domain name.
I want it to be just (www.organizedmayhemmusic.com) and worst of all you can type my other
site/page names after (www.organizedmayhemmusic.com/) and get to my other sites but with
my new domain name in the address. If anyone has any help to offer I would greatly appreciate it.
I never ask for help unless I'm pretty desperate. Thanks in advance, -Terodil-

If anyone has any help to offer
Your choices are to go back to forwarding/masking or move your site to Yahoo.

  • .Mac "Start Site" not the top site in iWeb site organizer

My first iWeb site I created is for my family stuff. Mildly personal.
My next one will be more friends/work.
But, when I test out the iweb help entry that says the top site in the site organizer is/will be the start site, it does not hold true when I publish them.
    The help says:
Your start site is the one that opens when you type this URL (address) into a browser (don't type the brackets):
    http://web.mac.com/[YourMemberName]
    To change your start site:
Drag the site you want to be the start site so that it appears first in the site organizer.
But, after I publish, the start site is still the old start site. Is this a timing/web cache issue? Or, bug? Or, how can one fix this?

It could be a cache issue, but I think this is less likely. Never hurts to emtpy your browser cache though. I have seen one other person who's sites are stuck like this. Couldn't tell you why. She is stuck using the long URLs to specify each site. Maybe this is a bug in iWeb. I don't know.
But here are some things you could try...switch the order of your sites again in the Site Organizer, publish, switch them back and republish. Or you might try a "Publish ALL to .Mac".
The object here is to get iWeb to generate new index.html files that redirect to your choice of a start page. For a little background, if you look in your iDisk inside the Web folder. There is a folder called Sites. Inside Sites, there is a folder called iWeb. Inside the iWeb folder you will see the first of two redirection index.html files. This first one is what allows the short URL to work...
    http://web.mac.com/yourname/
Now if you open up the site folder inside the iWeb folder, you will see another index.html file among all the other files there. This is the second index.html file that redirects to the same start page as the first. This allows the "long" URL to be used...
    http://web.mac.com/yourname/iWeb/sitefolder/
I have seen situations where either one of these index.html files have not been generated or altered to reflect changes in the Site Organizer...usually the outer index.html file inside the iWeb folder. So anything that you can do to make iWeb publish new files should work....changing the order of your sites, erasing the files from your iDisk and republishing, changing the names of your sites, doing a Publish ALL. Try these things and see if your problem isn't resolved...
If you have found any of this information to be useful to you, please take the time to provide me with feedback by marking my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using those little buttons that you see in the title bar of this reply. I'd really appreciate it!

  • Issues with loading my iWeb site on my Yahoo hosted ftp

I consider myself pretty good at troubleshooting applications on mac but iweb 09 has really stumped me. My gut feeling tells me its more of a Yahoo site ftp issue but not sure. I'm not sure if anyone else has had this issue with Yahoo web hosting but after I have built my site on iWeb and hit upload it says successful. I go to my website and nothing is there at all. Nothing except an error. This is the site im building for: http://www.peterherro.com/ As you can see there is nothing. Yet I have tried uploaded via FTP in the settings. i even tried using mobileme and having it redirect from the site to the mobileme hosted site. iWeb always thinks it did it's job when i upload but it isn't doing a thing. If i go to my mobile me it shows that my site is uploaded but if i click the clink i get an error. this is the link. http://www.peterherro.com/Main/Welcome.html
I hope this makes sense and I am hoping someone might be able to give me some insight. I hate feeling defeated by this but i am at a lose. Thanks in advance!

Cany you tell iweb to redirect people from your domain name (EX: www.PeterHerro.com) to http://web.me.com/PeterHerro ?
You have it backwards. You tell the place where your personal domain name (Yahoo?) to point that name at your site hosted on iWeb. You can do this via url forwarding, where you just type http://web.me.com/PeterHerro into a form. Or you can do it via CNAME, where you set the www CNAME to web.me.com (plus put your personal name in the MobileMe account settings).

  • Why is my iweb site "passworded" & why are my domains "mixing"?

I created a second iweb site and put it in a new folder. It shows up on my idisk as separate and I can access it using my web.mac url. I then parked 2 domains at godaddy and pointed them to my 2 web.mac sites. I can't understand why I have the following problems:
    1. When I enter in Safari the domain for the first site (www.ponocat.com), it then brings up the domain for the second site (www.kcbaileyphotography.com) and opens the 2nd site. (I can still get to the 1st site thru the original <http://web.mac.com/kcbailey49/FoodStuff>, so I know the site is still there.) GoDaddy tells me this is an iweb problem, because the domain has the right pointer.
    2. When I enter the name for the second site (www.kcbaileyphotography.com), I am asked for a password. I never passworded it.
Can anyone help me with these two questions?

When you create a second site in iWeb, unless you create a new domain file, it will publish to dotmac just as it does with the other site.
No need to put it in a folder.
The site at the top of the list is the default site when you type:
    http://web.mac.com/kcbailey49/
    Which in this case is:
    http://web.mac.com/kcbailey49/kcbaileyphotography/
    http://www.kcbaileyphotography.com redirects to that site.
    Your domain
    http://www.ponocat.com
    redirects to:
    http://web.mac.com/kcbailey49/FoodStuff/Home.html
When you move a site to the top of the list, or when you manually put a site (including the index.html file) in the sites folder of you iDisk, that Site will become the Default one.
Your redirects will just do what they are told. So there's no need to call on GoDaddy. Perhaps checking your redirect settings will be a good idea.
It takes a bit of mental juggling to graps all this.

  • IWeb site down?

I've had an iWeb site for a good while, registered through a GoDaddy! account to have a domain name forwarded.
I made some changes to the iWeb last night, only to try and check it and get a message saying my account either doesn't exist or so on and so forth. In any regard it's a page that's NOT my iWeb.
I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue? The site is publishing fine, everything looks OK, it's just the site is not displaying.
If you would like to check it, the site is: consoleculture.com.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    -Dan

    OK...
Your GoDaddy redirect is working fine.
The problem with your links on the front page is this:
    http://web.mac.com/dballance/iWeb/Console%20Culture/Homefiles/imageEffectsAboveCC.png
The reflection of your image is somehow in front of your links. Click on it and "send backward" until it is behind the links, and republish.
Your other pages are published just fine
    http://web.mac.com/dballance/iWeb/Console%20Culture/Videogames.html
    http://web.mac.com/dballance/iWeb/Console%20Culture/Music.html
    However
    http://www.consoleculture.com/Videogames.html
    and
    http://www.consoleculture.com/Music.html
don't work because you have your http://www.consoleculture.com forwarded to
    http://web.mac.com/dballance/iWeb/Console%20Culture/Home.html
    Redirect it to
    http://web.mac.com/dballance/iWeb/Console%20Culture/
instead and people will be able to type in ANYPAGEINYOURSITE.html after http://www.consoleculture.com to get to your forwarded pages.

  • My iWeb site can no longer be found by browsers

I have had an iWeb site which has been live for about a month. It has been working perfectly. I have updated several times without any issue. It still appears to be working well within iWeb. I can make changes and publish changes.
I have my own domain name hosted on mobileme
When I now search the internet using any browser, it says
Can't open the page http://www.dhsem.com.au/ because the server where this page is located isn't responding.
I have checked my .mac account and everything seems to be fully functional. Why has my site suddenly disappeared off the internet?
I have tried removing the com.apple.iWeb.plist file from Library/Preferences, rebooting the computer, republishing the entire site, all to no avail.
The site is still sitting in iDisk/Web/Sites.
Everything looks normal from the iWeb side of things. For some reason, no browser can find the server (The IP address of the server is: 118.215.20.59)
    Would appreciate any help

You don't need to get your domain name registrar to do this - you should easily be able to do it yourself.
Firstly, ensure that your domain name is entered into the Personal Domain name setting of your MobileMe account.
Go to your domain name registrar and then set up CNAME forwarding if they provide this and forward your domain name to web.me.com - this is all you need do - you don't need to fiddle with nameservers or anything else like that.
If they don't provide CNAME forwarding then you can use web forwarding instead.

  • How do i add a personal domain to my iWeb site?

I created a website using iWeb and logged on to mobile me to activate the personal domain I bought. It's asking me to:
    Add Personal Domain
Before your iWeb site can be viewed at your personal domain, you must complete the following steps:
Go to your registrar's website. Define web.me.com as the "www" CNAME (alias) for your domain.
If you need help creating a CNAME, contact your registrar.
Return to this page and click Done.
Your registrar can take up to 48 hours to update your domain.
Can someone explain where or who my registrat is? I bought my domain through GoDaddy.com. Are they my registrar?
    Thanks,
    Dali

    Are they my registrar?
    Yes.
And to answer the next question : godaddy iweb cname
And here's the shortcut to the GoDaddy Help page :

It's also discussed daily in the MobileMe forum : godaddy cname

I did manage to save a lot of user file documents but I don't see or
recognize the iWeb site file. It was on a 15" G4 Titanium pb.
I'm trying to find a way, using version 2.0.4 of iWeb on a different

There are 6 pages of images and text, and it
would be a task for me to recreate the whole thing again. I did
download the site but I don't know how or if I can get iWeb to see it and open it.

Unfortunately iWeb cannot read or import previously published files, only generate them.  You'll have to recreate your site from scratch.
However, Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the recreation of the site.

  • When I try to open some web sites i am blocked by MOZILLA and redirected to a site I did not want and am unable to close or go back without going back to the home page. Help help help

I have removed the check from the pop up blocked in the MOZILLA options but still get this problem of not being able to open certain sites. The MOZILLA icon appears with the three options available, but before i can click on one I am automatically redirected to a site I did not want, and when I try to go back it will keep coming back to the site MOZILLA put on the computer. I have to close and go back to the home page and start all over again. I have installed a new virus protection system STOPZILLA and could this have any bearing on the problem. After awhile it becomes very frustrating trying to get on line information and being continually redirected. Any ideas?
