  • Redolog backup taken(-cds) but archive dir not yet cleared.

    Hi all,
Yesterday i took redolog backup using brarchive command in my prod server.
    brarchive -u / -c force -p initsid.sap -cds
But after completion backup the archive log directory is not yet cleaned as i did the backup
    as copy_delete_save.
Size of archive dir is 100GB.
1)I want to take clean up the archive dir now.
2)Why the archive dir is not cleaned ?
3)should i schedule redolog backup daily?
    4) In an average of 100 logs generating in a day of 16mb size, so what should be my redolog backup plan?
5)what are editing actions should i do in (initsid.sap) so that after redolog backup archive dir will be automatically
    cleaned.
    Thanks in Advance,

    Hello,
The first thing you should do is to understand what you are doing.
You executed brarchive with a series of options but you do not have any idea of what you are doing.
therefore, your first stop is not the forum but the documentation.
I'll make easy for you. [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/47/3172ce66932036e10000000a114a6b/frameset.htm]you have the relevant description for "cds"
Please, read it(and chek also the rest of the manual) and you will be able to
1.- understand what you are doing
2.- understand what you can do
3.- answer your questions (and even other question that you still have)
Another option is NOT doing your work and expect us to do it for you

    Hello All,

In my findings I understood that it may be a hardware inconsistency from the note 17163.

The file to be backed up cannot be read. In most cases, this is due to hardware problems on the disk on which the file is stored.
But if i take the archievlog backup using brtools in command prompt level and its working fine and also its getting completed succefully.
I gave the full  rights of administrator, backup operators, saplocal and sapglobal admin . And also the drive was shared and the folder access is given with full authoriusation for the user SAPServiceSID.
I am not sure about the root cause of this problem.Anyone have idea on this please do suggest me.
Yesterday I posted the same thread and thought that it solved my problem and closed the thread as well, Sorry.

    Hello All,
    Sorry for the late update.
I have followed the note 400241 but still not able to solve the issue. I am not able to take the backup from DB13  by using a local drive  and also in  the network drive. Both are getting failed due to the same reason
    BR0278E Command output of 'E: && cd E:\oracle\QAS\102\database && E:\usr\sap\QAS\SYS\exe\uc\NTAMD64\brtools.exe -f copyfile
    21.10.5.10\backup\Test_NEW\QAS initQAS.ora spfi
    Access is denied.
I am sure I have created the service user in network drive with the same password but still no luck, even its getting failed if i try to take a local backup.
Services are running under SAPSeriveSID user and this user is also not locked.
For the past one month I am taking the backup using the BRTOOLS and dont know why this is getting failed in DB13.
    Any suggestion are highly appreciable.

I think this is a problem with permissions.
To verify, try to run brarchive from command prompt as user <sid>adm. (PS: I just read: you did.)
If this works, make sure user SAPService<SID> has the same permissions on shares and files.

    Hi Ultragc88,
    Thanks for your post.
What’s the detailed version of your TFS 2012?
To create Backup plan, you must be a member of both of the following groups:
    1
The Administrators security group on the server that is running the administration console for Team Foundation.
    2
The SQL Server System Administrator security group. In addition, the service account for TFS (TFSService) must have
SQL Server Perform Back Up and Create Maintenance Plan permissions set to
Allow on each instance of SQL Server that hosts the databases that you want to back up.
    3
The Farm Administrators group in SharePoint Foundation 2010, or an account with the permissions required to back up the farm.
If you ensure you have the above permissions correctly, but still occur the same error, please share the full backup plan creating log here.

  • HT201250 Time machine backup permission issue

    Hi,
We setup time machine backups in an office environment which is managed by a mac OS X Lion server.
Each device on the network (all mac minis) is configured to take hourly backups to the drive on our server.
On some occasions, a device requests an admin username and password whilst time machine is backing up.
We believe this may be caused by backupd attempting to access parts of the file system it is not authorized to as each device has application restrictions set in profile manager. Computers that do not have application/directory restrictions do not get the admin prompt.
Here is a dump of the backupd daemon (and other possibly related processes) whilst a user was prompted for a password:

Could this be fixed by running a full backup as admin so that time machine doesn't have to backup these inaccessible files (to normal users) anymore?
    Thanks for your help

I'm not familiar with the server product, but the actual backup process should be the same as on the client version.
On some occasions, a device requests an admin username and password whilst time machine is backing up.
Does it say Admin password, or could it be a password for the backup device?

    Not related to Time Machine.

Feb  1 10:07:16 pc-205 mds[61]: (Error) Volume: Could not find requested backup type:2 for volume
We see that occasionally.  It seems to be spurious, or at least not a significant problem.

Feb  1 10:07:39 pc-205 com.apple.backupd[436]: Ejected Time Machine disk image.

    Yes, that's the "bottom line."
Could this be fixed by running a full backup as admin so that time machine doesn't have to backup these inaccessible files (to normal users) anymore?
No.  However a backup runs, it runs as the root user, so has access to everything.

  • Restoring  whole db Online backup with redologs backup

    Dear all,
I am planning to restore a whole DB online + redo logs backup, i have few doubts . please confirm..
On Step 8, Restore and apply archivelog files ...
    First sequence number (first_seq) ..  (eg) 7276
    Last sequence number (last_seq) ..  (eg) 7278
we probably only have to mention the last_seq.... Now question is , is this the last archive created when the backup finished...(ie 7278) and in  the backup log, it was mentioned that  the Next archivelog is 7279...
another question , when we are restoring this backup next day , can we apply archives created after 7278 to achive DB point in time..
    Thanks & regards
    Adnan

    Hi
U have to recover the databse using the archive files after the backup was taken.
The archive files should be copied from the source system to the target but make sure that u rename those archive files as acceptable to the target system ie log_archive_format parameter of the target system. ie sid should be there in the name of the archive files.
One more thing if u wish to keep the target DB in sync with the source DB then u would need to apply all the archive files generated after the online backup was taken.
Make sure to open the database in resetlogs mode
In short the steps wud be as follows.
    1. Issue the following in  ur source system
alter database backup controlfile to trace ; .
2.Modify the .trc file  as below created under usertrace directory  which generally shud be /oracle/SID/saptrace/usertrace
    a. CREATE CONTROLFILE SET DATABASE "Target_SID" NORESETLOGS  ARCHIVELOG
b.The directory structures of the redo log and datafiles as per the directory structure available in ur target system.

  • Backup Deletion with DB13?

    Hey there,
I have planned some AllOnlineRedolog Backups to a disk. But there is only enough space for ONE Backup. So, after the Backup on the disk has been saved to a tape, it should be deleted. Not directly after the Tape-Backup but  relatively before the new AllOnlineRedolog Backup.
    Example:
    01.01.2008 - 3:00am - AllOnline + RedoLog Backup (to Disk)
    01.01.2008 - 8:00pm - Backup to Tape
    08.01.2008 - 1:00am - Deletion of old Backup
    08.01.2008 - 3:00am - AllOnline.... and so on.
Is this possible just with DB13? How could I realize this?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there,
If you are using the DB13 you probably are familiar with the profile file init<SID>.sap in that file you can configure the disk path if you didn't then the backups goes to the default path that is %SAP_DATA%\sapbackup.  In the same file you can configure the retention period of that files and all the logs created during backup activities.
There is an activity pattern in the DB13 called Clean up logs, that pattern could be configured to delete old backup files.
We implement exactly the way you want, and in the init<SID>.sap located in %ORACLE_HOME%\database\ we set the parameters as follow:
retention period in days for archive log files saved on disk
    default: 30
    cleanup_disk_archive = 14
This means that offline readologs will be deleted if they are 14 days old
retention period in days for database files backed up on disk
    default: 30
    cleanup_disk_backup = 1
This means that all datafiles only will be available 1 day and at the next day when you run "Clean up logs" activity the previous backup will be deleted.
You can configure that for example the Clean up runs every day one our before the backup and with that you first delete the old backup and then you make a new one.
You can use the scheduler task if you want but if you use the DB13 you dont need to enter to you server every day to review the logs. We configure the scheduler task for our Portal because has no ABAP instance .
the instructions in the .bat file coul be "brconnect -u / -c force -p init<SID>.sap -f cleanup " and that is actually the pattern in DB13.
You can review the documentation of brconnect for more details.

  • BACKUP THROUGH DB13

    Hi Gurus ,
In DB13 T-code , what is the difference between the Full Database online + redolog backup and Whole database online + redolog backup ? Kindly tell which type the best one to take backup daily .
    Regards
    Selvan

    Dear,
As per me there is no difference.
You can use full offline backup + redologs.
If you can able to take downtime you can go ahead with full offline backup + redologs.

  • Regarding Online Redo log backup

    Dear all,
I am running "Whole database online + Redo log backup" in production server which running successfully with return code 0000.
Is this  backup takes online redo log file also?????? because in backup log i didn't  see any directory like .../../orilog A, .../../orilog B etc which contains online redo log file.
Without this online redo log backup i don't thing we can do point to point recovery.
I am beginner for oracle so please clear this doubt.
    thanks,

You have offline redo log files in 'oraarch' --> this means that 'online redo logs' are getting backed up into 'oraarch'.
    sql > archive log list
    http://www.adp-gmbh.ch/ora/sqlplus/archive_log.html
Above command tells whether the logging is ON or not. If it is ON, then online logs will be generated w.r.t. every sap work and as soon as the online logs gets filled up - it gets backed up into 'oraarch' - to accommodate more logging with time.
    Thanks

    Hi,
You tried to backup redo log on disk.
Option -cds (create second copy, delete and the first copy serial) is not supported when you do a redolog backup using disk as backup device type.
