Redolog files gets archived

dear friends,
i have one confusion please help me to clear it out,When the database is in NOARCHIVE MODE,does redolog files get archived? bcoz when i run the query select * from v$log and when i tried to delete active redolog group,i got error and redolog group needed for instance recovery.so,pls help.your help appreciated,thanks.
os:5.7rhel
db:10.2.0.3

when any redolog file got deleted at os level irrespective of redolog file status whether it is active or inactive or current,users continue to work on database until log switch occurs.when log switch occurs and oracle comes to the dropped log file to write (dropped at os leve),oracle didnt find the dropped logfile at os level,oracle throws an error and users get disconnected from the database.
suppose we dropped a current logfile from os level,when logswitch occurs this dropped logfile
(status= current,at the time we dropped) becomes inactive redolog file till oracle comes to overwrite it.
we recover the inactive redolog file as shown below
sql>startup mount;
sql>alter database clear logfile group 1; (if logfile belongs to group 1)
sql>alter database open;
am i right? please correct me if i m wrong.

  • LGWR ASYNC doest not working for redolog files, while archiving is working

    Hi All,
    I am using Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0.
    I have created a database named black. I then creaetd a standby database. now I want to syncronize the redo logs file as well.
    SO I added log_archive_dest_2='SERVICE=standby LGWR ASYNC',
    I have also added following standby log files on standby database.
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE '/oracle/oradata/black/srl1.f' SIZE 52428800;
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE '/oracle/oradata/black/srl2.f' SIZE 52428800;
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE '/oracle/oradata/black/srl3.f' SIZE 52428800;
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE '/oracle/oradata/black/srl4.f' SIZE 52428800;
    Now I want to confirm that the redo log files are syncronizing same time on both Primary and Standby. I have checked thru alter system switch logfile; when i executed the redo log sync at both sides.
    Archive logs are also applying successfully.
    The Primary database is in MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE Mode;
    Regards,
    Hassan

    Hi Khurram,
    I have successfully executed the commands on Primary Database as below: (Standby database was in mount state at that time)
    SQL> startup mount;
    ORACLE instance started.
    Total System Global Area 1258291200 bytes
    Fixed Size 2083728 bytes
    Variable Size 318768240 bytes
    Database Buffers 922746880 bytes
    Redo Buffers 14692352 bytes
    Database mounted.
    SQL> alter system set log_archive_dest_2='SERVICE=standby LGWR SYNC AFFIRM' scope=both;
    System altered.
    SQL> alter database set standby database to MAXIMIZE AVAILABILITY;
    Database altered.
    SQL> alter database open;
    Database altered.
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORACLE instance shut down.
    SQL> startup
    ORACLE instance started.
    After that I activated managed recovery process on standby database and all archive files were applied successfully;
    Then I executed a script to insert 2000 records in Primary Database Scott Schema, and during the execution of this script I executed shutdown abort from anothe session on primary database.
    at that time no new archive file generated only redo files was there.
    I then executed below commands on standby database to apply current redo log file but that IS WAHT I WANT TO ACHIEVE IS UN-SUCCESSFULL.
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
    Database altered.
    SQL> recover standby database;

    The standby redo log files are already generated on standby database. The database is in MAXIMUM AVAILABILITY MODE.
    I have also go through your blog but did not find solution for my issue.
    My scenario is that: SHUTDOWN ABORT (Primary Database) means that server goes down and we have to make our Standby Database as Primary Database, so we need to apply redo log file that niether switched nor applied yet.
    Kindly advice.

    Hi,
    I am trying to read a file and after processing , I want to archive and place in other directory. Though i am able to read and insert the data succesfully into database but not able to place in 'Archive' Directory.
    What might be the reason any idea???
    I heard there is a bug in 10.1.3.3.0 version... Is this true???
    Any help in this regard would be appreciated.

    I don't think there is a bug related to this in 10.1.3.3
    I am using SOA and JDeveloper 10.1.3.3 and its working fine
    Are u checking the archive option in file adapter?( Check wsdl for entry)
    Also are you giving the physical location or logical one?
    try with physical path if u are not doing it already.
    And also, i don't think files get archived after processing, they get archived at the same time the file adapter is in action.

  • File Adapter : Archive bad files

    Hi Friends,
    If we select the archive option while configuring the file adapter, following behaviour is seen.
    1. Files that are successfully processed, get archived to provided folder
    2. However, failed/bad files get deleted from source folder and do not get archived
    Is it possible to configure the adapter so that only failed/bad files get archived?
    Thanks,
    Sachin

    Hi Sachin,
    You can configure to handle the rejected messages in different way as given under (11.1.1.6 - check documentation for your version):
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/integration.1111/e10231/life_cycle.htm#BABBHJEA
    To achieve archival of only bad files, remove Archive property from your File Adapter and configure only the rejection handler.

    Hi,
    Archive log files are the copies of redolog files.As redo log files are circularly overwritten,oracle generates archive log file of the corresponding redo logfiles being overwritten.So if you have a backup that dates back to 10 am in the morning and if your database creashed at 3 pm,you cannot use the redo log files alone as they have incomplete information.To completely recover the database upto 3 pm,you need archive log files generated between 10 am to 3 pm. In your case since you are missing one archive log file,you cannot perform complete recovery and hence would suffer data loss.

  • Restore with brtools - need more archive redolog files

  • How to get endtime of a redolog file

    How to get endtime of a redolog file..
    i get start time from the following statement..but the high time shows as
    01-JAN-1988 00:00:00
    select TO_CHAR(LOW_TIME,'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS'),TO_CHAR(HIGH_TIME,'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') from v$logmnr_logs;
    where do i get the correct end time

    i need the high time of the current redo log..using the folowing query i get
    select min(to_char(first_time, 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI')),
    max(to_char(first_time, 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI')),MEMBERS from v$log
    group by members;
    MIN(TO_CHAR(FIR MAX(TO_CHAR(FIR MEMBERS
    28-NOV-07 09:33 28-NOV-07 12:19 1
    it returns the max and min low time among all redo logfiles
    what I need is the high time of current log file.
    using the next query i get
    select min(TO_CHAR(LOW_TIME,'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')),max(TO_CHAR(LOW_TIME,'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')) from v$logmnr_logs;
    28-NOV-2007 12:19:09 28-NOV-2007 12:19:09
    since i add only current log file to log mining session, v$logmnr_logs would only have information about that file(one row only). so will get same time here for min and max. What i need here is high_time of the current redo log file.
    Any idea?

  • Increase redolog file size - Merits and Demerits

    Hi
    Currently, we are in  9.2.0.7.0 oralce version and having redolog file sizes (Mirrlog and origlog) of 100MB.
    Now we are planning to increase the size to 200 MB so that we could reduce the number of archive log files.
    Can you please let me know what would be the demerits of bigger size in redolog files?
    And also let me know the step by step process how to increase the size of redolog files?
    Thank you

    > I understand what you are saying but in our situation our backup policy is one time online backup  and one time offline backup in a week.....Online backup is on Thu and Offline backup is on Sunday.......
    >
    > In case of system crash if needed we would need to apply archive log files; If we have lesser number of archive logs; recover database would be faster.......correct me if am wrong.
    You are wrong.
    Ok, let's see an example:
    You took your backup on sunday midnight and your DB needs recovery on wednesday.
    Meanwhile you created say, 800 M worth of redolog data per day.
    That sums up to (monday, tuesday, wednesday) 3x800 M = 2400 M that need to be recovered.
    Going with your current setup (100 M redolog size) the largest archivelog file can be 100 M, makes 24 files to restore and recover.
    After changing the redologsize to, say 200 M, you only have 12 files to restore and recover.
    But know what? It's still 2400 M of data.
    Since you will likely not put every archivelog file to its own tape, but rather change the tape each day (just an assumption) or maybe don't use manually operated tapes at all, the little latency overhead in handling tapes doesn't count in to your overall recovery time.
    All in all you still need to feed the same amount of data to the recovery process.
    Apart from this:
    if you're discussing short recovery times, than you'd never perform just two data backups a week.
    You'd make online backups every day - maybe incremental ones.
    You' d use the flashback recovery area.
    An additional thing often overlooked: in many cases the ultimate performance killer for a restore/recovery scenario is not the technology in use.
    It's that when the case is there, the DBA is not sure anymore, what do to.
    He wonders:
    Where the good backups are.
    How to get them back from the 3rd party backup tool.
    How to check them.
    Where to get a different storage system because the original one is broken.
    How to figure out what needs recovery
    How the tools work
    By ensuring that you always master the theory and the how to of restore and recovery - that's how you make it quick and painless (and dataloss-less).
    regards,
    Lars

  • Question on recovery of redolog file

    hii,
    how to open database,
    when block corruption error in redolog file.
    there are two archive redo log groups.
    and database in non archive mode.
    thank's in advance

    I think this is a very difficult situation. You cannot proceed in opening your database as your redo log is corrupt (current I guess :( ). Your database is no noarchivelog mode, which makes it more diffidcult.
    When you say you have two archive log groups, do you mean redo log groups?
    Are those groups multiplexed?
    In this case you can still recover from this error by dropping the corrupt redo log file and using the valid surviving redo log member.
    If you have only two redo log groups, not multiplexed members an no archivelog mode, then I suggest you to dump the contents of your redo log file and detect up to which point you still can find a valid SCN, so can execute an incomplete recover until that scn.
    Procedure to dump the contents of your redo log file is:
    alter system dump logfile '/xxxx';
    This will create a text file with the contents from your redo log file, once you have it you can check up to whic valid SCN you can get. Next perform an incompete recover until that found SCN.

  • Standby redolog files

    Hi
    I think standby redolog files are not required if I open the physical standby database in read/write mode by using flashback database techonology. Kindly let me know if I am wrong.

    Hi,
    Thanks for coming back on this, sorry for confusing with my question, I will re-frame my question as
    "I think standby redolog files are not required on PRODUCTION, if I open the physical standby database in read/write mode by using flashback database techonology", basically I wanted to know that standby redologs on production and standby are required only when switch over are switch back are done.If you would open(using any technology wether flashback or without it) your physical standby database (keeping production also in open mode) that means both these database are now independent and redo logs(archive logs) of any of the database cannot be applied to each other. Hence there would not be any use of standby redo log files.
    Standby redo logs are used to get the redo files(data) on the standby database from the primary even if the redo log is not archived on primary. Hence if you want that feature in your standby database it is necessary to have standby redo log files.
    Yes standby redo log files are not required for production but oracle recommends it to make smooth switch over.

  • Download PDF File from Archiv to SAP Application Server

    Hi,
    I need to download the PDF file from an NAST-Dataset (how is stored from the message via SAP ArchivLink) to the SAP Application Server.
    1) At first i read the Archiv-Link data via function module WFMC_GET_ARCHIVE_OBJECT_TYPE
    2) Then i get the Connection-Infos via function module ARCHIV_GET_CONNECTIONS_INT
    3) Now i read the file from archiv as table via function module ARCHIVOBJECT_GET_BYTES
    4) Save to the SAP Appl.Server via:
       - OPEN DATASET ld_dpfad FOR OUTPUT IN BINARY MODE
       - LOOP and TRANSFER lf_archivobject TO ld_dpfad.
       - CLOSE DATASET ld_dpfad.
    In the dialog of NAST-Dataset (Messages) i can open the PDF-File without any errors (display originals). But after the filetransfer to the SAP Appl.Server i get the following errors during the file opening dialog from Adobe Acrobat Reader:
    - the embedded font u201CArialu201D cant to be extract
    - not enough data for the picture
    The reader can display the PDF-File but only without the picture (Logo) and with alternative font.
    The same transfer from archiv and sending as an attachement to the BOR-Object via function module SO_DOCUMENT_INSERT_API1 works very fine and without any errors.
    Can any one please help me to solve this Issue?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Thomas

    Hello Keith,
    Many thanks for your answer.
    In the past i didnu2019t need the BINARCHIVOBJECT-Parameter and so i overlook this option.
    Now, the File looks a little bit different, but only in the STREAM-section.
    During the Fileopen-Dialog i get only one message now - "not enough data for image" and the image will not displayed. The rest seems to be correct.
    The relevant coding is now:

  • Reg:File adapter archive Directory

    Dear team,
    Our requirement is to read a csv file from a directory and archive the file in archive folder specified in the file adapter.
    If any exception is caught,then we need to read the archieve file from archive directory rename the archive file with source file name and place it in source directory.
    On the receive activity we are able to get the source file name and source file directory.
    <receive name="Receive1" createInstance="yes"
    variable="Receive1_Read_InputVariable" partnerLink="fileRead"
    portType="ns1:Read_ptt" operation="Read">
    <bpelx:property name="jca.file.FileName" variable="srcFileName"/>
    <bpelx:property name="jca.file.Directory" variable="srcDrFolder"/>
    How to get the archive file name and archive file directory from the receive activity so that we can store in local variables.
    Pls do help.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Another way you can accomplish your scenario. Instead of deleting or archiving in beginning just move the file from inbound to archive location after business flow completion.
    In case of error, the file will remain at original position as moving operation is at the end.
    First read the file using read operation, then at the end create a file adapter with sync read operation. Change the entries in .jca generated with below sample.
    Sample jca file.
    <endpoint-interaction portType="SynchRead_ptt" operation="SynchRead">
    <interaction-spec className="oracle.tip.adapter.file.outbound.FileIoInteractionSpec">
    <!-- Below properties are dummy except Type , it will be changed in runtime -->
    <property name="SourcePhysicalDirectory"
    value="srcdir"/>
    <property name="SourceFileName" value="abc.txt"/>
    <property name="TargetPhysicalDirectory"
    value="targetdir"/>
    <property name="TargetFileName" value="abc.txt"/>
    <property name="Type" value="MOVE"/>
    </interaction-spec>
    Then,in you bpel flow at the invoke for sync read add these two properties.
    <bpelx:inputProperty name="jca.file.SourceFileName"
    variable="varInputFileName"/>
    <bpelx:inputProperty name="jca.file.TargetFileName"
    variable="varArchiveFileName"/>
    <bpelx:inputProperty name="jca.file.SourceDirectory"
    variable="varInputDirectory"/>
    <bpelx:inputProperty name="jca.file.TargetDirectory"
    variable="varArchiveDirectory"/>

  • Cant do a file get from external server using file sender adapter with ftp

    Hi all,
    Up until now our company has only used the file sender adapter with ftp protocol to get a file from our XI server for processing and input the file into an integration process
    I have a requirement to do an ftp file get from an external server
    From our XI development server I can ftp directly to the external server and view the required directory using the command window via a DOS prompt (FTP open ...).  So all firewall issues and communications are fine
    Unfortunately I cannot currently pull files from the external server using the XI file adapter with ftp protocol from the XI development server AWB017
    FTP Connection Parameters: External server name using port 21, Data Connection is Passive, No security, I supply a userid and password
    Processing Parameters: Processing Mode is Archive (I tried test but this did not work either)
    No messages appear in the RWB
    Is there something else that I need to set up in order for the external ftp get to work via the XI file adapter?
    Regards,
    Mike

    Thanks for your responses.
    I have found the error messages in the File Adapter Monitor
    Scenario 1
    When I prefix the source directory with a forward slash, eg <b>/Folder/Subfolder</b> the error message is as follows
    <b>EST: Error: Error connecting to ftp server 'ip address': FTPEx: /Folder/Subfolder: The system cannot find the path specified</b>
    Scenario 2
    When I DO NOT prefix the source directory with a forward slash, eg <b>Folder/Subfolder</b> a different error message is returned
    <b>Error: Retrieving file 'FILENAME.XML' failed unexpectedly: FTPEx: Folder/Subfolder: The system cannot find the path specified</b>
    At least in this scenario the adapter has been able to identify the file on the external FTP site but cannot retrieve it
    Questions
    I thought that the backslash prefix for the source directory was mandatory but I am receiving an error in each scenario
    I receive the same error message whether the Processing Mode is 'Archive' or 'Test'
    The logs on the external ftp server seem to indicate that I am simply connecting, sending username and password then quiting straight away. I am not issuing any commands that they can see
    I thought that being a Sender adapter it would inherently execute a Pull or Get command
    To recap, from our XI development server I can ftp directly to the external server and view the required directory using the command window via a DOS prompt (FTP open ...). So all firewall issues, communications, userid and password are fine
    Has anyone experienced these issues?
    Please advise on next course of action?
    Regards,
    Mike

  • How to retain file name while saving file on archive servers

    Hi Experts,
    I am using function modules:
    ARCHIVOBJECT_CREATE_TABLE and ARCHIV_CONNECTION_INSERT for inserting a file to archive server and for linking it with a document.
    Then I am reading the URL using FM: SCMS_AO_URL_READ. When I get this URL and download that file, the file name will be always defaulted to 'pclHTTP.dll'. I debugged these FMs to a certain extent and found that this name comes from CREP_HTTP-HTTP_SCRPT table.
    Is there any way I can retain the file name while saving it so that when I read the URL it has correct file name in it?
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Anand Kolte

    Hi Max,
    In case when downloading one file it is fine. But if I want to download 10 files at once and later if I go to my downloads, every file will be having similar name. Unless we open the file, we cannot know what file it is.
    Regards,
    Anand
