Redownload installed packages
hi,
I'd like to know how to redownload (without install) all my installed packages, I've found this:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=18728
and tried the script:
for package in `pacman -Q | awk '{ print $1 }'`; do yes | pacman -Sw $package; done
but it doesn't download anything in my pacman cache...
the thread is old (2006) and I'm sure there have been a lot of modifications in pacman, so can someone help me correcting that script?
thanks for your help

Those were completely different approaches... The very long one, and the arch one...
You can start by writing a long approach that works, and then try to find a more elegant one, no problem with that.
But generally speaking, it's very easy to write a script longer than necessary, because writing short ones require both knowledge
of all the neat tools like grep, sed, cut,tr,find, etc and experience of combining them all together.
To be honest, this need of reinstalling or re-downloading all installed packages comes up regularly, so you can find that my solution
was already suggested before in this forum, but that there were also several more verbose solutions similar to yours.

Redownload and reinstall all installed packages
I need to redownload and reinstall all installed packages, because I made some tests with prelink and something goes wrong. I found an article in wiki that covers download of installed packages, but howto reinstall them all?
The problem is that some apps are acting weird. I also have problem with compiling of AUR packages, because I get this error message:
checking how to recognise dependent libraries... pass_all
checking how to run the C preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
The gcc package is installed. Any sugestions?

Need to redownload all installed packages [SOLVED]
I found the redownloading all installed packages wiki page, but when I attempt either of the suggested commands on the page, pacman chokes on the first package that I installed out of the AUR. Can someone recommend how I can simply download all of my currently installed packages to my local db?
Thanks!

# wget $(pacman -Sdp `pacman -Q | awk '{ print $1 }'`)

VERIFIED: it does indeed. I removed /var/cache/pacman/pkg/zvbi-0.2.33-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz then touched an empty file of the same name. After re-running your command, pacman detected the problem, removed the offending package and re-downloaded when I ran it a second time. Smart

Adobe Air Install Package Signed by Revoke Certificate?
My security settings may be a little more strick than most. I just download the adobe air install package today. I think the revoked signature is preventing the installation. Can anyone confirm the signature? Thanks.
No problems with the signature on a new Windows 7 x64 / IE10 install with default settings .

No longer able to install packages
HI,
My remote desktop (3.5.1) crashed about a week ago. After the crash I have been unable to "Install packages" to any client from this laptop. There have been no changes in our network, or the client machines, or my login/password.
Under ARD preferences I've even set it to Full access for non-admins, just in-case. The client machines do allow installs in their remote desktop settings. I do have another machine with ARD 3.5.1 and CAN successfully install from that machine to the same clients.
I am able to copy, and run unix commands- only Install seems to be affected. Any ideas what might be causing this?Try this link: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3213196?tstart=0
Which hopefully takes you to a post by Scooter Magrooter that basically says
1. Open Remote Desktop Preferences/Task Server
2. Select to use a remote task server.
3. Put in an IP - scooter says any IP, I am much more successful with the IP of the computer I am on.
4. Probably will be asked for username and password.
5. Mine jumps back to "use this computer" automatically. If not, select that and close out.
Now try it.
I have to do this regularly. Annoying, but liveable.
Hope this does it for you.

The current iTunes 10.5 upgrade does not install on Windows 7 and indicates a faulty install package (error 2324). Advice or details on the release date for a proper fix? I'm not able to roll back to the prior version, so I'm stuck in limbo.
There have been a number of problems with installing the latest iTunes on Windows 7 64-bit machines during the last couple of weeks. You might want to do a search on that topic and see if anyone has a solution. There have been various versions of the problem but a lot related to errors in the download package or failure to download.

How to install packages from local folder
Hi all,
I have downloaded all arch linux packages from the following URLs:
ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/core/os/i686/
ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/extra/os/i686/
ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/community/os/i686/
and then have saved them to an external hard disk. Then I have attached that external hard disk to my system and packages are available in following folders:
/mnt/external_hd/Arch_Linux/Core-OS/
/mnt/external_hd/Arch_Linux/Extra-OS-1/
/mnt/external_hd/Arch_Linux/Extra-OS-2/
/mnt/external_hd/Arch_Linux/Community-OS-1/
/mnt/external_hd/Arch_Linux/Community-OS-2/
/mnt/external_hd/Arch_Linux/Community-OS-3/
Now I want to install some or all packages from these folder with the help of pacman command. I am seeing that package corresponding to wvdial command is available in the /mnt/external_hd/Arch_Linux/Extra-OS-1/ folder. But how to use pacman command so that I can install wvdial package from that folder?
In addition to this if I want to install ALL Extra Packages available in the folders /mnt/external_hd/Arch_Linux/Extra-OS-1/ and /mnt/external_hd/Arch_Linux/Extra-OS-2/ then how to execute the pacman command?
Please send me step by step instructions so that I shall be able to install some or all downloaded packages.
I shall remain thankful for this forever.
Best Regards ...
Pankaj KumarHi fukawi2,
Thanks for reply and searching for my username on google. It is true that I am a freelance s/w developer but I am not installing Arch Linux for any client. I am installing it due to some other reasons. In fact I started working on Red Hat and then on Fedora when I was a student of bachelor degree course in computer applications. Then later I searched open suse and started using it. I am using open suse from its 10.1 version. However the recent version of this distribution has become much resource consuming. So I am in the need of a light weight linux distribution. And I encountered Arch Linux. Then I purchased its installation disk from an online shop and installed it on my system. But only text mode is working at this moment. Since I want to use X window and so I started to follow the syntax of pacman command. But it is connecting to internet. Since my internet connection is slow (average speed of 10kbps) and so I requested the same online shop to download all packages from Arch Linux repository and send them to me. Therefore now I am having all those packages in my local external hard disk drive in the folder mentioned in my first post. Now I want to install packages from these folder. And so in order to get help I have come to this forum.
I have also followed the steps given on the pages https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … l_commands and https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … repository. But when I am trying to install a particular package using the following command:
pacman -U wvdial
then it is asking for a dependency. I know that the dependent package in my local folder but why it is not being automatically taken by pacman command? Can you please explain it.
That is why I am asking help only for customization and usages of pacman in order to install packages from local folder. But each member in this forum is only referring to long written manuals and not giving me exact solution which I think will involve four/five steps.
Best Regards ...

I Removed itunes from my pc, and tried to redownload/install it, now i can't even get it installed, it says " The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" What do i do to get itunes back on my pc?
This kind of problem can often be fixed with the microsoft Installer cleanup utility.
Unfortunately the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility has been withdrawn by Microsoft because of compatibility issues with Microsoft Office so you will need to find a copy elsewhere – the installer is msicuu2.exe. You need version 3.
Google msicuu2.exe download
mydigitallife in the above search has a copy of version 3
Check for malware before installing it.
After installing, To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install
If you get permission denied error, Try Run as Administrator – an option if you right click on the program.
When you run the cleanup utility, look for any instance that you find of iTunes and remove it.
It is possible that you will have to remove other apple programs if removing iTunes doesn't allow you to install iTunes. Post back with any furtyher error messages if there is a problem. -
Where is the install package stored from the app store for Lion?
This is an all new way of deploying OS updates from Apple. From what I can see, this presents some issues:
1. Where is the install package that I bought from the app store, and how can I save that offline?
2. If there's a problem with my device in the future, I have no media of Lion to restart from- so what's the procedure to restore from a TM backup? Go back to 10.6, and then to the 10.7 update?
3. What if I want to boot from disc or a drive? I don't have a copy of the install to make a bootable image.
Thanks for the helpOK, once you install Lion the Installation Package gets deleted. However once you have installed Lion, do following:
- Open the AppStore Application
- With pressed Option (on German Keyboard ALT) Key klick on the "Purchased" Tab!
- You will now see that the prviously greyed out "Install" key for Lion becomes active
- Download the install package
- Do not start installation
- In order to create a bootable DVD or USB drive containing the installer follow instructions posted on
http://www.macworld.com/article/161069/2011/07/make_a_bootable_lion_installer.ht ml
This is how you can create installation media.
For maintenance options (means your Lion installation has some problems but your drive is still OK)
you can boot from the hidden recovery partitions that was created when you installed Lion.
To do so, press the Option (ALT) Key while booting. You will have now the option to boot from
Lion or recovery partition.
Hope this helps! -

I already reran pacman-key --init and pacman-key --populate archlinux after removing the allready acquired signatures (/etc/pacman.d/gnupg). But it keeps returning the same error.
Do I need to add another key manually to install packages manually from the AUR?

Two options are to change your SigLevel or sign your own key... -

Error in installing packages during jumpstart
The machine I am installing via jumpstart is on a terminal server and I am connected to ttya. I am seeing these errors in the log:
## Executing postinstall script.
pkgadd: ERROR: freopen(/dev/tty, "a", stdout) failed, errno=6
pkgadd: ERROR: postinstall script did not complete successfully
and I am told the installation failed with an error code of 1 which, according to the pkgadd man page it a fatal error.
When I do a pkginfo -l on the package it appears that the package is there. Is this something to worry about?
If it means anything, this is the java 1.4.2_02 packages.
KentYou might want to redirect stdout & stderr to /dev/null while installing packages via run-scripts (I'm assuming that 's the case).
So, when you're doing the pkgadd, do it like this:
echo y|pkgadd -a ${MD_PRODUCT}/admin -d `pwd` SUNWmdr > /dev/null 2>&1
Here I'm trying to install a disksuite pkg as a post-install and it givees me the same error messages that you get if I don't redirect 2>&1 to /dev/null

Hi everyone.
I have a question regarding installing packages and procedures. Lets assume, I am installing a procedure called "db_procedure" and I want it to be created under schema "EMP". My create or replace statement looks like this:
Create or replace procedure EMP.db_procedure as
Now, lets assume that I log into database as system and run this procedure. This procedure will be created under "emp" schema not system as I have the schema name attached to the procedure name.
My question is, is there any difference in running this procedure as system and running it as "EMP". My understanding is that as long as I add the schema name to the procedure name in the create or replace statement, there is no difference.
Create or replace procedure EMP.db_procedure as
I just wanted to understand what goes on behind the seems in oracle when you install this procedure as system. How is it different (if any) from installing it as "EMP".
I believe there is none.

I would say you are right. Allthough it would not be my preferred choice of deploying a procedure in the EMP schema. I would just connect as EMP and run it inside that session.
