Redownload Mountain Lion

Recently Installed the V10.8.2 update to my MBP, no errors on install. But during reboot it no longer can boot properly. Tried using recovery drive to fix both the drive and reinstall Mountain Lion. Niether worked. Eventually I had to erase the entire drive and reinstall Snow Leopard. Now a new problem. Snow Leopard is not updating properly. How do I get redownload Mountain Lion without repurchasing? Can I even download it from a fresh Snow Leopard install? (last disk I had).
Any help would be greatly appriciated. I already spend over 6 hours troubleshooting this today.

Then do this:
Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
If you are preparing an external or a non-startup drive, then open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the Snow Leopard installation.
5. Once the computer restarts successfully after installation, install the 10.6.8 Combo update.
You should now find the App Store on your Dock or in the Applications folder. Sign in with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion. Click on the Purchases icon then locate your Mountain Lion purchase entry. There should be an active Install or Download button on the right.

  • How do I redownload mountain lion for a clean install on the same machine without purchasing again?

I purchased mountain lion and upgraded my OS.  The system seems to still be having some issues and I'd like to do a clean install with the new OS.  How do I redownload mountain lion so that I can make a bootable disk and do my clean install?

You should be able to just go to the App Store and select Download again. If that doesn't work, try holding down the option key while selecting "Buy".
    Good luck,

  • How do I redownload mountain lion

I purchased a new iMac that came with Mountain Lion 10.8, it did not come with the install disk. Is there a way to download the installation software?
    Thanks,
    Peter

There's no way to download the entire installer that I know of when 10.8 is included with the Mac. You can, however, create a recovery disk from which you can boot a system and reinstall when/if necessary. See:

  • Recently forced to update Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) from Mountain Lion to Yosemite. Performance is awful. Is there any way to change back/downgrade?

(Sorry if this isn't the correct category)
I have always been a fan of Apple and almost always love Firmware updates. OS X 10.9 and 10.10, however, I do not like.
I recently spent a lot of time going through all the troubleshooting steps Apple Support makes you go through before I called them to get my problems fixed as quickly as possible (no point wasting both our time). I had encountered scepticism in the past that maybe my problems were because I was running 10.8 and so to prove that it was in fact a hardware problem, I updated. AppleCare finally agreed to replace my logic board (for a second time) which fixed the performance problems I was having. The process took hours and I ended up being right the entire time.
I originally had my own little reasons for not wanting to update but decided I would try Yosemite since I didn't really have much of a choice at this point. I have now given it a good month and have concluded that this OS version is completely useless to me and near unusable.
A small list of the more annoying problems:
Photoshop crashes and/or needs restarting constantly
my Wacom Tablet doesn't function properly (or at all
my computer lags when I open Dashboard or App Exposé
I get the spinning beach ball for a good five seconds at times almost exclusively when using a feature of my computer such as Finder, Pages, iTunes, etc.
computer feels like it is lacking in specs
Additionally, there are a dozen little things about the way Yosemite behaves and looks that I find hard to ignore. I WOULD ignore these things if my software worked properly.
Yes, I did try reinstalling programs and drivers; no it didn't help.
I paid for a computer running Mountain Lion because I knew I could do my art on it, play the games I wanted, and do word processing the way I liked. Is there any way at all (no matter how long or difficult a process) to downgrade back to 10.8? And specifically without voiding my warranty?
I really don't want to be forced back to buying Windows but I spent a lot of money on something that is now not functioning in a way I can use it ):
    TL;DR
had 10.8. needed to update to 10.10 so AppleCare would believe that I had hardware problems. Hardware is now replaced and I need 10.8 back without voiding my warranty.

My problem is the laptop came with Mountain Lion on it and I spent 2.5 DAYS in recovery trying to redownload the OS to install.
    snip
That took about an hour and after the recovery finally opened I was prompted with downloading "Lion" instead of "Mountain Lion" I proceeded. It installed overnight. Now my Macbook has Lion on it and the only way to get Mountain Lion back is in the App Store for $20....
This does not make much sense if the Laptop had Mountain Lion on it from new. Internet Recovery downloads the current version of the OS that the machine was built with, are you sure that you did not upgrade to ML from Lion?
If you did you can redownload Mountain Lion for no charge.

  • Mountain Lion won't install because it says my Mac HD cannot be used to start up my computer?

I've tried redownloading Mountain Lion but that didn't work. I've also gone into start up disc in my settings and restarted my computer with my Mac HD. It isn't partitioned. Any help here?

    Just Follow this procedure...
    1.     Go To BOOT CAMP and create a BLANK PARTITION. Say a minimum of 10 GB. You do not have to install anything on this.
    2. After you create this, go back to ML installer and now you will see 2 HD's. one will be your main HD and the second one will be the one you just created.
    3. Install the ML OS X on the main hard drive. Once installed, reboot the machine go to DISK UTILITY and delete the blank partition you had created.
    4. So, now you have your HD at its full capacity.
    Try this it should work.

  • How do you reinstall OS X Mountain Lion?

I have had a problem and I was wondering how you take off Mountain lion and reinstall it onto the OS?

restart your computer while pressing down both the command and r keys at the same time....
once you see the apple logo, release the keys and you'll get into the disk utility menu....reinstall from there...
    good luck...
another way of doing it is to redownload mountain lion and create a install usb thumb drive....
read here for instructions on how to create one....that way, you don't have to redownload it everytime you need to reinstall...

  • HT203421 unfinished osx mountain lion download cannot be located on my mac

Started downloading osx mountain lion from appstore and got to 4.1G of 4.4G before interruption. No icon found when accessing app store's interrupted purchases and no evidence of the downloaded portion on my Macbook pro. New download started when I re-accessed app stores: 1) Am i going to get billed a second time ?and 2) what happened to the almost completed initial download?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    1. When you purchase OS X Mountain Lion, you can install it as many times as you need in all your Macs for free.
    2. If your Internet connection was interrupted and you didn't pause the download or you restarted or shut down your Mac, the download is gone. You have to download Mountain Lion again from the Mac App Store. In order to not lose it, open a Finder window, select Applications in the sidebar and copy the Mountain Lion installer to another folder like Documents, so you won't have to redownload Mountain Lion anymore

  • Where can I find my mountain lion installer included with 2012 mac mini

I just bought a 2012 mac mini and I want to install mountain lion on an SSD that I bought separately.  Where can I find the mountain lion installer file to create a bootable USB install drive?  When I go to the mac app store, mountain lion is not listed in my purchases and when I try to buy it, it says "We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer."  It's already installed on the mac mini, I just need the installer file so I can install it on my SSD.

You might be able to simply boot into the ML Recovery HD, select Reinstall OS X and point to your SSD drive. You won't capture the InstallESD.dmg file to create a USB thumb drive installer.
OR.... to create a USB thumb drive of your pre installed ML, you would need to redownload Mountain Lion then grab the InstallESD.dmg file and create your USB thumb drive. Here is how I've done it using Internet Recovery to get my pre installed OS X.
Attach a USB external drive to your system. Formated as Mac OS Extended (Journal) and GUID partition table.
Restart using Command+R+Option to boot into Apple's Recovery HD. This will get you the original version. Or just Command+R to boot into your ML Recovery HD.
Select Reinstall OS X from the OS X Utilities menu.
You will  have to watch the download. After it completes and your system restarts, at the black screen disconnect the external USB drive.
After you are back to your current desktop, insert the external USB drive. There should be a single folder on the drive called 'Install Data' (I think). Find the InstallESD.dmg file and copy it to a folder on your current system (Downloads, for example).
Follow any of the internet instructions to create a ML USB thumb drive.
I tried this method, and while it did get me the installer image, when I restored it to an external and tried to use it to restore a Late 2012 Mac Mini, I got the same "No" symbol I did with other ML installers.
Here are some screenshots of what was loaded onto my external before I yanked it, when the screen turned black durring the restart. The highlighted file is what I restored to my external to use to restore the Mac Mini.

  • Issue with Mountain Lion Account

    So heres my problem,
When Mountain Lion came out earlier this year I purchased it, but since I didnt have a credit card I just downloaded it off a friends account. Ever since I have downloaded it I have been having issues with mail accounts. It always comes up with his name and email adress when ever I add a new account (details are already saved when you add a new mail). I couldnt stand it any longer so I made my own Apple ID and redownloaded Mountain Lion off my account it since I have reccently got a credit card. Yet the still problem occurs even after re-installing mountain lion off my own account.
I have deleted all mailing accounts and added them again but still the same thing happens. Do not have a clue why this happens because the Mountain Lion I am running now was bought off my own account. It really annoys me and do not want some preset details popping up everytime I want to add something to my computer.
Hope this makes sense to you all.

This is because while you've re-installed the system, you've preserved the user account. You need to do a  "clean" install meaning a reformat and install. If the Mac orginally shipped with Lion or ML you can redownload via Recovery Partition but if the Mac shipped with Leopard 10.5.x or Snow Leopard 10.6.x then you need the OEM discs that shipped with it. You can call Apple and they will send you the discs for a nominal charge.

  • Mountain lion installation fail problem

My hard drive failed yesterday and I have been unable to restore to a new hard drive from time capsule due to the screen saver crashing the restore.
I managed to get snow leopard onto it from my old disc, I then redownloaded mountain lion from purchases and have been trying to install from that.
It goes from time remaining 37 minutes to minus 3 hours
The only way out is to hold the power button down and then restart
This then starts the installation process over at 37 mins and 4 hours later its at -3hours
It was devastating enough that time capsule was unablel to restore my system but now the fact I can't even get ML back on the machine has made me want to put it in a skip.
Can anyone suggest a solution or am I doomed to this infinite loop of installation despair forever?

You might have a corrupted install package. Download another version. If that also faile, contact the MAS, since they're responsible for this atrociaous delivery system.

  • Redownloading OS X Mountain Lion from the App Store

    Hi,
i need to re-download OS X Mountain Lion from the App Store, but cannot find the download. Trying to use my redeem code from the OS X Developer Programms tells me that the software is not available.
How can i redownload the DMG to install Mountain Lion again ?
    Cheers,
    Oliver

The redemption code can only be used once. If you downloaded Mountain Lion already, then in App Store sign in with the proper Apple ID. Click on the Purchases icon. Search the list for your download. If you don't see it then it may be hidden: Mac App Store- Hiding and unhiding purchases.

  • Download error; cannot redownload OSX Mountain Lion

I recently bought a MacBook Air, and I am trying to download and install my free copy of Mountain Lion. I started downloading it, and at one point the download stopped, and it says an error has occured in the app store. In my purchases, the button to restart the download is just a blank grey button, and I cannot restart the download. Anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!

Restart and see if the download continues. If not get in touch with support.

  • How many times can you reinstall Mountain Lion?

Since I bought the Early 2013 15" MacBook Pro retina laptop used only 17 battery cycles on it now (2.7 with 16GB ram running Mt. Lion) computer I have not reset it. I spoke to Apple and it is registered in my name, I made a new Admin. account and password and Apple had me delete the original owners. I took off anything he had left on it. Applecare also I bought in my name. Apple said I didn't have to reset it and would be fine so I left it. They deauthorized the previous iunes account and the previous owner gave me his ID to deauthorize the computer. It was already deauthorized when I checked. He then changed his password for his security. It runs beautifully and has a Samsung screen.
I deleted the iLife apps and were going to buy them in my name (as his ID came up for updates) but now can't redownload in my name as it says I need Maverick OSon it to do so. I left the Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on it. If I contact Apple will they give me a redemption code for my name or how do I get older versions?
If I reset to new how many times am I able to reinstall Mountain Lion? If I decide to sell it later will I be able to reset it again with no problem for the new owner?
Thank you for your help. This forum is a source for many of us new owners to solve things.

As long as you do the download with your Apple ID, it'll be in your name. Reverting back can be a little involved. If you have that in mind, you should make a full backup of your clean install of ML and save it somewhere. Then you can just copy the image back with Carbon Copy Cloner. External drives are cheap, that's how I'd do it.
