Reduce Attachment size in Mail on iPad (4.2)

Greetings:
I have spent a ton of time trying to find out how to do this but only seem to see where people talk about the ability to "select size of photo attachments" yet I cannot figure out how to actually do this.
This is a big deal for me as I mail images all the time and want to set my iPad up so it reduces the size of the image if possible
Thanks
Doug

Thanks for the information. I looked for the User Guide on the iPad page in the online store and the link was still to the old PDF file--my first clue was the "orientation" toggle was listed and not the silent switch. After your reply I went back in to search under manuals and found it. I downloaded it to the iBook for easy reference.
By the way, I also noted that some photos I saved from the web directly on my iPad were not able to be resized when I attempted to email them. I don't pretend to understand that <g>

  • What is the default maximum email attachment size (Exchange 2003) on iPads?

What is the default maximum email attachment size (Exchange 2003) on iPads?

Maximum message size is determined by the mail server (Exchange in your case), not by the Mail app on your iPad. There are two settings in Exchange 2003 related to message size: One for incoming messages, one for outgoing. Both can be set to Unlimited, or to some number of kilobytes Exchange 2003 is a long time ago for me, but if I remember correctly the default size limit is 10240 KB (10 MB). Once those are set, the admin can also create policies to modify those limits for specific situations. You really need to ask your Exchange administrator how he/she has the max size configured.

  • Missing attachment size in mail 4.3

Hi, when I attach a jpeg to an email, I can see the size of the attachment at the bottom of the window but when I attach a pdf, the 'message size' and 'image size' are both missing. Please does anybody know if this is standard or do I have a problem?

    Stuart,
The problem in the earlier version of Mail was that if the Image Size button were used with PDF, to anything other than Actual Size, the PDF was converted to a JPEG and havoc resulted. It was very purposefully removed in later versions of Mail unless true image files that could be downsized as JPEG files were what were attached. I know this because I was one who pointed out the error that could result. The resizing was prevented in the final Version of Mail 2.x, but the Message size Report and Image Size button were not removed when attaching PDF until Mail 3.x and later.
The current behavior is not a bug, and the Message Size was only meant to appear when Image Size button could be used to reduce the size of the files, and thus the entire message.

  • Limit on Attachment Size in Mail

I want to receive mails with a text file attachment (.csv file).  I receive it OK and can view the attachment in the mail if the attachment is just a few lines, but i don't receive the mail at all if the attachment is a little larger.  Is there a limit on the file size of attchments ?
Also, is it possible to save an attchment from an email so that it can be used by another App ?
(I have a spreadsheet app and would like to be able to pick up a .csv file sent to me via email).
    thanks, Keith

Most email services have limits on the size of attachments, they can vary. But from your description, your file doesn't sound like its that big, it should transmit.
For attachments, press and hold the attachment icon, a menu should pop up that includes "open in" where you can open it in any app that is compatible with that file format. I'm not sure a csv file would connect with a spreadsheet app like Numbers, though.

  • Maximum attachment size for Mail 4.3 and can it be changed?

    Hi,
We are using Exchange 2010 at work and have found via several Mac users, and which I have verified myself, that Mac Mail appears to impose its own maximum attachment size limits, somewhere around 10MB. If I take the exact same message and send it via my PC running Outlook 2007 the message sends correctly.
We have 4 users who reported the same thing so it isn't isolated to one machine. I have confirmed and re-confirmed that our Hub and Edge transports are configured to allow 100MB e-mails. Mac Mail has other ideas.
Is there a way to change this limitation as I can't seem to find anything, via Google and/or searching these groups?
I don't want to go back to Thunderbird or, worse yet, Entourage......

It appears in this case to be a failure on Apples part to develop an application that support MAPI. Hopefully the forthcoming release of Office 2011 will rectify this situation.
As I said I have gone through our setup of 6 exchange servers, covering all the bases.
    For instance,
    get-mailbox <user> | fl MaxSize
    MaxSendSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
    MaxReceiveSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
    Get-TransportConfig | fl MaxSize
    MaxReceiveSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
    MaxSendSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
All receive connectors are configured to 100MB also on our Hub Transports.
Even the fix listed in the links above, related to EWS and changing the IIS settings, which is where the issue seems to be, doesn't seem to work for me. It may be that I have missed something of course so I'll look over those links once more.
Maybe restarting IIS after the changes were made wasn't enough.....
Of course the other fix, since it works perfectly well with Windows machines and Outlook is to do away with our Macs entirely. Boy that would make me happy!!

  • Photo attachment size in Mail

    Hi
When I attach photos into a mail, they appear as actual size.
I would like all my attachment photos to appear as icons.
I can then change the size of the photos into an icon but have to change each one individually.
Is there a way to do a defult setting so that when I attach photos, they automatically go in as icons?
    Cheers
    Woodsie

    Folks
This is not an issue, it's a feature. By this I mean it's intended behaviour. Apple have not "fixed it" because as far as they are concerned it's not broken. If you would like the behaviour changed then
    1. Install Mail-Attachments-Iconizer. I see one poster mentions he had issues with it but I've used for years with none.
    2. Always send your messages as Plain text: (Mail -> Preferences -> Composing). This will help with the pic arriving embedded. Though remember, the settings on the recipient's email client is the biggest factor in deciding how the email will display on their machine. Also, remember there's no reason why any other client "should" behave exactly like Eudora.
    3. If you want Mail to be changed there is no point in posting here. This is a User to User forum, and Apple do not promise to read it. So, if you want more options, a new default setting or even new preferences: Contact the developers of Mail:
Mail menu -> Provide Mail Feedback
The more folk that do, the better the chance of things being changed.

  • Individual attachment size in mail app

I was able to see the size of individual attachments in the old version of mail.
I now only see the total size and the number of attachments.
Does anyone know how to display the size of individual attachments in the new lion mail app?

    CT,
Our company works with photos and some of them are send by email so yes, incoming mail.
I would like to see the size (kb) of the individual attachments.
I only see the total now while in the old version i could see the size of all of them seperate.
    Hope this helps.
I am not sure still - do you mean see the individual sizes within a received message?  I can see that info when I am viewing by icon

  • Reducing pdf size: How can I reduce a pdf document for MAIL?

I am having trouble getting a mail pdf attachment to be accepted by my server. I am looking for a way to reduce the digital size of the pdf (report) so that it will be a size acceptable to my server (tds).  How can that be done?  What steps should I take?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The Quartz Filter in Finder might help.
Open the pdf file in Preview.
Then File, Save As, (Format PDF) checkmark the Quartz Filter, and select Reduce File Size.
In my test example, a 4 page .pdf file of a newspaper article including lots of text and two large color photos was reduced from 573KB to 147KB.
But do test the results first, by giving the test file a new name instead of saving 'over' the original.
The text remained sharp, but the included photos became noticably pixelated at 100% size.

  • Attached photos are automatically reduced in size - how do I stop this?

iPad mini using Mail. My wife somehow changed a setting and it doesn't ask what size I want to send the photo as, it just automatically sends it as a reduced file size. I'd like the option to chose each time I send one.

Photos that you take with the front facing camera - the FaceTime camera - cannot be reduced or enlarged in size. Apparently the front facing camera must automatically optimize the for FaceTime and the size cannot be adjusted.
As far as I know - all other photos (screenshots, saved from websites or emails, rear facing camera photos) can be reduced in size - or sent in a larger size if they are reduced automatically when inserted in the email.
If you are sending multiple photos in one email - if one of them is from the front facing camera - I believe that will preclude you from adjusting the size of any of the other photos as well.

Hi. Txs. The problem is that in my pc the limit size is 25mb. But in my ipad the mail only sends files under 3mb.

    Hello Mats in Sweden!
I'm from Austria, not so far away! The file that you've received seems to be a Windows Media File and you may need a special software for your iPad to be able to open it. I've found something HERE.
If you open this link on your iPad it should take you to the App Store, resp. open it. The price for this app is 1,59 €.

I want to reduce pdf size up to 5mb for mailing perpose, anybody have any option to reduce it since I have used optimizer & reduce file size option but its not helpful.

The optimizer can reduce space, but some things can't get smaller. Text for example. Play with the settings, examine the results of Audit Space Usage.
Or give up. Even 5 MB is too large for a bulk mailing, by far. Instead put it on your web site and mail a link - done!

  • How to reduce email size on ipad

Under Usage, email size is 52 GB, yet I have cleaned everything out.  How do I reduce the size to open up available space on my iPad?

Have you tried closing the email app by double clicking the Home button and swiping the email app upwards ?
If that does not clear it, then reboot your iPad by holding the Sleep and Home buttons together until the Apple logo appears, then release both buttons and allow the iPad to restart.

  • Ipad 2 switch off and reduce image size

My iPad 2 running under 8.02 has persisted in presenting a large view of things making it impossible to "Go to iCloud Settings ... to turn off Find My iPad before restoring ...".  Also I have been unable to switch it off using the two buttons - it persists in coming back on immediately.
I did get through once and turned off Find My iPad and successfully Restored but then went back to my latest backup because so much was not working which set it back to the status quo.

By large view I mean that the icons  are three by three filling the screen and move sideways only.  I cannot access the Settings icon to check zoom, though if I recall correctly it doesn't expand things that much.  Triple tapping the screen reduces the sizes so that a fourth row is just visible.  Ah, I have now got through to settings and Zoom was on.  It now appears to be functioning almost correctly.  The exception is it now requires 6 clicks of the home button between displays.  I can live with that I guess.
    Thanks Jazcan and James Ward.

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
