Reduce file size in Adobe Reader X, not Pro version?

How do I reduce the size of my file in Adobe Reader X (not Pro version)?
It's a large file (+70 pages), basically a magazine in PDF.

Adobe Reader cannot edit or optimize PDF files.

I have Windows 8.1, and when I right click on the Windows flag (bottom left), the menu gives me a "Search" option. When I enter "%temp%", it goes to " "my username"/ appdata/temp" which is a list of file 1718 file folders. Many are empty but I did a small sample. Is that the right place to delete?    I tried Windows- Disk Clean, but that did not help.

  • How can I reduce the file size in Adobe Reader 9?

My wordpress isn't allowing me to upload files larger than 2MB. How do I resize my PDF in Adobe Reader 9 so that it is <2MB?
Thank you very much for the help!

In Acrobat, open a PDF file.
-Choose Document > Reduce File Size.
-Select Acrobat 8.0 And Later for file compatibility, and click OK.
When you choose the compatibility level, be aware that the newer the version of Acrobat that you choose, the smaller the file. If you choose compatibility with Acrobat 9, however, you should be sure that your intended audience does indeed have version 9 installed.
Name the modified file. Click Save to complete the process.
It is always a good idea to save a file using a different name so that you don't overwrite an unmodified file.
Acrobat automatically optimizes your PDF file, a process that may take a minute or two. Any anomalies are displayed in the Conversion Warnings window. If necessary, click OK to close the window.
Minimize the Acrobat window. View the size of the reduced file. The file size is smaller.
You can repeat steps stated above using different compatibility settings to see how they affect file size. note that some settings might actually increase the file size.
PDF Optimizer offers more opportunities to control quality trade-offs.
Choose File > Close to close your file.

  • How do I reduce file size in Adobe 9.4.5?

    Hello,
I'm using Adobe 9.4.5. I can't figure out how to reduce file size. My 'save as' options don't offer this because they only offer 'save a copy' or 'save as text'. And I don't have the 'Document/reduce file size' option. It's simply not there.
I'd appreciate any advice on how to do this.
    Many thanks.

You can also try Document>Reduce File Size. The PDF Optimizer has more features, but Reduce File Size my meet your need. I find different results with both methods, making me sometimes wonder which is the best approach.

  • New Adobe Reader will not older version files

Is that true : Adobe is likely to come out with a new version of Adobe reader that will not read Acrobat files which are created in older versions like 6 or 7

It is true that newer Reader versions are more sensitive to old (or new) documents that contain errors.  But for correct documents, all new Reader versions are fully backwards compatible.

  • Where did "reduce file size" go?

My co-worker has acrobat reader version 7 and has a "reduce file size" option under the "file" menu.  I am on verion 9 and cannot find this option.  Can anyoen point me to where I can find it.  Thank you.

If he has "reduce file size" then he has Acrobat, not Reader. There is no "Acrobat Reader".

  • How to reduce file size when using batch processing?

I use File > Process Multiple Files to batch process photos to a smaller file size along with adding my watermark.  I've played with many different settings and no matter what I choose, I can't get my average file size to be less than about 200k.  However, when I've exported the same photos using iPhoto, I can get the file size to about half of that with no difference (to my naked eye at least) in quality.
I definitely want to keep the height at 768 pixels so that needs to stay constant.
My current settings in batch processing (average file size = 200 kb)
Resize images with a height constraint of 768 pixels at 150dpi
    What I've tried:
Resize at 72dpi (reduced file size by about 5kb)
convert file to JPEG low quality (reduced file size by about 10kb)
convert file to JPEG medium quality (not much difference in file size)
I'm using PSE 10 on a Mac running Lion.
Thank you in advance for your help!

You should go with default settings of Optimizer.
One difference between default settings of Optimizer and Reduce file size is that Optimizer does not guarantee a reduction in file size (if your Optimizer settings lead to an increase in file size, that's what you will get).
With Acrobat 9, the default setting in Optimizer has an additional setting which would not do an image optimization that results in increase of file size. In that sense it would in most cases give a smaller file.

  • "Reduce File Size" Spaces/Spreads out text...

I have a 12-page newsletter created in InDesign CS4. I run it through our ApogeeX workflow for production PDF output. I need to take that PDF and reduce the file size down so as to email a copy to the client for proofing purposes only.
Using the "Reduce File Size" in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro splits up lines of text, letters within words, etc. Anyone else experience this and have a solution/suggestion?

This has just been happening since we upgraded from CS2 to CS4 this past week. Thoughts?

I have this same font issue when I use AA9 to Reduce file size or Optimize. If optimize is doing it also, what option in the optimize menus can I shut off to avoid this. Currently I have had to use AA8 to get around this.
    Tips appreciated!

  • How to reduce a PDF file size under Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. The size is now 23MB; I need it to be less than 4MB. thanks

how to reduce a PDF file size under Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. The size is now 23MB; I need it to be less than 4MB. thanks

I've found in Pdf's many time when you go to Optimize a PDF and look at the font list there are often up to a 1/2dozen copies of a given font, say Helvetica, then that many Helvetica Bold, or Arial or Ariel Italic
What I do ie remove from list all but one copy of each different font. often dramatically reduces the size. also something lese is Flattening images will in some cases reduce a file size. I have run into a case where it actually made a PDF Larger.

  • Save As Does NOT Reduce File Size

I have tried everything to reduce the file size of my Adobe Acrobat Pro X Form with Save As (Reduce File Size, As Optimized, etc...).  Unfortunately, the file size does not reduce.  I send to a friend who has Acrobat 9 and he is able to reduce the file from 45mb to 182kb...what gives?  He sent my original file to his co-worker who has Acrobat Pro X and he has the same issue that I do.  This appears to be a version issue. Any help would be appreciated as I have about 150 of these that I need to get down to a reasonable file size.

Actually, I found something else. It's very curious.
The form fields themselves are OK, and there is only one tiny copy of CopperPlate Light.
There is a place in a PDF where there is supposed to be a copy of each font used a form field. This lists (presumably) every font you own and then some - over 500 fonts, all embedded. This is clearly not what you wanted and not what the software should do.
It would be interesting to know the life cycle of this form (by which I mean how it was born and what happened along the way). It was made with Acrobat 10 from Word, but that (presumably) didn't do the bad thing. Can you remember what happened to the file in the mean time? Was it only EVER edited in Acrobat X, or were any other utilities used on it - even if they didn't seem to be related to form fields at all? Do you have any old copies before it grew in size?

  • Reduce file size not working

I have Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional.  I scanned an 868 page text only document using two different professional scanners at my work, Xerox Docucolor and Canon DR-6030 Scanner.
The scanned settings were 300 dpi, black and white, duplex.  No photos, not even line art.
    1.  The result was a 32 mb file.  I don't know why it's so big.  It should be no more than 4-6 mb.
    2.  Furthermore, the file size remained unchanged after I used the reduce file size command.
I am baffled, any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Try the PDF Optimizer. You could also try a ClearScan OCR. If you did OCR, but did not do ClearScan, then you are simply looking at pictures of your scan. The ClearScan will replace photos of text with actual text and a text file. You have left a lot out of what you have done in the scan. Also, scanners or the translations often give you a 24-bit graphic file even if it is really only B&W. Often the best results for OCR are gotten from a Gray Scale form in my experience. So, the structure of your PDF may be the issue. The PDF Optimizer also has an audit feature to show where most of the memory is being used.
