Reduce ink use in pixma mx 922

re purchase of mx 922, is there a "save ink" or "draft" setting to reduce ink use?  what's the "fast option"?
Solved!

Hello.
Using the 'fast' option will reduce the amount of ink that is used for printing.  This will help conserve your ink while printing.

  • Re: 8220 printer Thinking of buying this printer. Some reviews talk about excessive ink use.

re: 8220 printer.  Thinking of buying this printer.  Some reviews talk about excessive ink use, especially on start up cleaning.  Comments?

I upgraded from the Canon MP990 to the MG8220 a few weeks ago. I upgraded for the native AirPrint and Google CloudPrint features.
The print head in the MG8220 is the same as the MP990. Ink usage is about the same between the two units. The first three sets of ink replacements will happen faster than the future ones. I could explain why in a short essay, but basically it has to do with proper head maintenance. A good amount of ink is used in the initial setup of the machine to align the head and also fill the head and its small internal reservoir between the tanks and the actual head.
I printed six 4x6 photos and about 300 pages on plain paper before I had to replace any ink tanks from the inks that came with the MG8220.
I print almost every day and learned with my MP990 to just leave the machine on 24/7 unless I know I will not print for days as the MP990 and MG8220 prime the ink tanks every time the machines are powered on.
If you want to get the MG8220, get it ASAP as it is a discontinued unit and at this time Canon does not have an exact replacement successor unit. I do not think Canon will have a 2013 AIO model with film scanning, CCD scan sensor, etc. The top of the line model looks to be the MG6320 with the lower quality CIS scan sensor.
Usually new Canon printers are first posted on Canon UK’s website. The new MG6320 and MG5420 for example were posted there in early September, but were just announced on Canon USA a few weeks ago.
Compared to HP’s Photosmart machines that have 564 ink tanks, the ink usage is better on Canon’s CLI-226 machines by far. The same if you want to compare Canon’s ink usage to what the Epson Artisan units use too.
To sum it up; Canon is a better bang for the buck when looking @ OEM ink usage, machine features, quality of built and you get actual USA-based support and service.

  • How do I print directly onto an inkjet printable CD using a Pixma MX922?

How do I print directly onto an inkjet printable CD using a Pixma MX922?  Does Canon have a template for disc labels?

    Hi KSeghorn,
There is a program that comes with the printer called the My Image Garden program that can assist you with printing onto inkjet printable CDs. To do this, please follow these steps:
    1. Start My Image Garden.
    2. Select the image you want to use for a disc label (CD/DVD/BD).
    3. Click the NEW ART button and select the Disc Label (CD/DVD/BD) option. The Select Theme dialog appears.
    4. Set the Theme, Paper Size and Orientation, then click the OK button. The disc label (CD/DVD/BD) appears in the Create or Open Items edit screen.
Note: The layout may not be as expected depending on the photo information or analysis results of the selected images.
    5. Edit/adjust the items on the label using the buttons at the bottom of the window according to your preference, then press the PRINT button. The Print Settings dialog appears.
Note: In the Advanced Settings dialog displayed by clicking Advanced... at the bottom of the screen, you can set the print area. If Advanced... is not displayed, click the right scroll arrow button to display it.
    6. Set the number of copies to print, the printer and paper to use, etc., then click the PRINT button to print.
For information on loading the printable CDs into the printer, please click here.

  • How to set up Yosemite 10.10.1 to print and scan using CANON PIXMA MP780 (on MacBook Pro). Thanks. Bozdogan

How to set up Yosemite 10.10.1 to print and scan using CANON PIXMA MP780 on MacBook Pro (Pre-Yosemite operating system OS X10.6.8)?
Yosemite 10.10.1 doesn't seem to support MP780. Also, CANON doesn't have a driver for Yosemite 10.10.1 for its MP 780 series.
    Thanks. Bozdogan  (at [email protected])

I believe you should be able to print wirelessly using your MBP and printer. However, you will want to visit the Canon home site and download the current drivers and firmware for your printer. Once you've done this, I hope you'll post back with your results.

I am using a Pixma MG3222. Print is very small, no matter if I print from the Web, PDF or a document using any of the iMac apps.  Also, the Quick Menu does not show any functions in the Print or Manual & Device Information sections. This problem is only on my iMac (OS X 10.8.5). The printer works fine on my PC. For the iMac I have downloaded the Mini Master Setup driver and then the Quick Menu and EZ Photo print software. Can anyone help? I've been at for several days and am beyond frustrated!

    Hi mac,
We have updated the printer & scanner driver since the Mini Master Setup was posted, please try installing the following listed below from HERE:

  • Why am i getting poor quality photo prints after installing lion using canon pixma 6120?

After installing Lion, I began experiencing poor quality photo prints on my Canon Pixma 6120 printer.  Prior to Lion, my picture prints were all high quality.  Now, anything black in the picture is faded.

Lion should not cause the blacks to print faded. The printer drivers used by Snow Leopard and Leopard are the same version as that used by Lion.
For starters I suggest you check that you have the latest version installed. This Apple KB article shows the MG6100 series has v10.51.2.0 as the latest version.
I also recommend you do a Nozzle test print. This can be executed from the MG6120 control panel or via the Printer Utilties window (via Print & Scan, select the printer and then open Options & Supplies and then select the Utilties tab).
If the nozzle test print is okay but the blacks still look faded when printing photos (note the printer has two black ink tanks - one for photos and one for text) then try a reset of the printing system. This will remove the MG6120 from the Print & Scan pane but not the supporting drivers. So you will only have to add the printer again.

  • Ink replacement? Pixma MG2520

    I have a Pixma MG2520.
Do I HAVE to replace the color cartridge if it is low or out of one color, in order for the machine to print in just black?
    Put another way.
If the color cartridge is empty will the machine print in black only.
    Thanks
    Sic

    Hi Sicnarf,
Both ink cartridges will need to be installed in the printer in order to print, even if one of the ink cartridges is low or out of ink. Since your color ink cartridge is out of ink, you can disable the ink level detection function of the printer so that any low/out of ink warnings are not displayed on the printer and then continue to print.
To disable the ink level detection function of the printer, please press and hold down the STOP/RESET or RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer for at least 7 seconds, then release it.  Once the low/out of ink cartridge is replaced with a Canon genuine ink cartridge, the ink level detection function of the printer will be re-enabled.
You can also set the printer to print using only the black ink cartridge.  To do this, please follow the steps located here.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do I scan multiple pages into one pdf file using the PIXMA MG7520 on Windows 8.0? Please help!

I recently received a PIXMA MG7520 for a gift.  It works great with my lenovo laptop/tablet running on Windos 8.0.  The one drawback to the HP all-in-one that it replaced is it does not have an ADF.  That being said, there must be some way to scan multiple pages into one pdf file.  I need help figuring thing out.  Thanks in advance!

    Hi mdtolbert54,
There is a program that comes with the printer called the IJ Scan Utility that can assist you with scanning multiple pages into a single PDF document.  To do this, please follow these steps:
    1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key.
    2. Start typing IJ SCAN UTILITY. The search window opens as you type. Once the IJ SCAN UTILITY is displayed, please select and open it.
    3. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears.
    4. Click the DOCUMENT SCAN option on the left pane of the window.
    5. In the SAVE SETTINGS section of the window, you will select the save format and location of the document you are about to scan.
a.) In the FILE NAME field, specify the name you would like to give the file. By default the filename will begin with IMG; you can remove IMG and change it to whatever you would like to name the file.
b.) In the DATA FORMAT field, use the drop-down arrow to select the PDF (Multiple Pages) option.
c.) In the SAVE IN field, please navigate to the area where you would like the file to be saved once it is scanned in. By default, the file will be saved in the MY DOCUMENTS folder.
    6. Once all settings have been selected, click the OK button at the bottom of the window to save the changes. The IJ Scan Utility main screen appears.
    7. Click the DOCUMENT button. Scanning starts. Click the CANCEL button to cancel scanning if needed. Scanned items are saved in previously selected folder location specified in the SETTINGS... window.
If you find that you need advanced scanning options such as adjusting resolution, brightness, contrast, saturation, color balance, etc. in addition to the options selected above, please click on the SCANGEAR button on the IJ Scan Utility Main screen, then adjust the items as necessary.
Once the items above are set for document scanning, in the future, you will only need to launch the IJ Scan Utility, then press the DOCUMENT button to perform the scan (unless you want to make changes to the settings).
    Hope this helps!

  • HP J6450 All-in-one, ink use

I bought this printer in July for my small office, mainly for faxes and colour printing. My last all-in-one HP printer, gave up the ghost after 4 years of good work ( still too early though). However this printer chews up ink fast. My last printer used black ink cartridges, 3-4 per year. Now I'm on my 2nd cartirdge? It's too late to return it from where I bought it so that is not an option. My HP Laser does most of my printing so it's not from excessive use. I have put all my settings to draft. I used to use a 56 cartridge for my last printer? ANy suggestions. At this rate I will not be able to copy documents as I do for the ocassional use.
    This question was solved.

To Madmedic: Aside from the draft print setting I could not offer you any other advice on cutting down on your ink consumption. But you may try using XL version of the print cartridges if you are not already. The regular 74 black cartridge is comparatively small for most larger officejet units, but an XL version is available that will provide a much greater page yield with less cost per page.
More complete information on the cartridges for your product can be found here: http://www.shopping.hp.com/supmodel/product/CB030A?
I do work for HP printer support, but as normal, any advice or opinions given are my own.

  • High ink use

I don't print that much, but my Photosmart 5520 uses a lot of ink.  It especially uses more Cyan ink than the other colors.  I am printing documents, not photos, and mostly in black and white.  Does the printer use Cyan ink when printing b/w?  Is there a way to make it just use black ink?

  • When printing grey scale on a MX882 printer, is the color ink used at all?

We set all of our home PCs to print gray scale on our printer, an MX882 (serial # ACAT48275) in order to not use so much color ink.  That seemed to be working very well until the big black ink cartridge (the 226BK) emptied out.  I didn't think anything of it because the small 225 BK cartridge was still full.    The 225 BK is about 1/2 full now, but all of a sudden, the color inks (226C and 226M) are empty, with the 226Y 1/2 empty.
My question is, if the BIG black cartridge (226BK) empties, does it not "switch over" to the 225 BK?  Or does is start "creating" black by using both magenta and cyan?
    Thanks.
    Mark

    Hello.
If plain, letter sized paper is used, the printer should use the large black tank for grayscale printing.  If specialty paper or duplex printing is used, the printer would use the dye based inks.    If grayscale printing is not enabled, the printer may create 'composite' blacks by using mixtures of the color inks.  This may occur when graphic or web-based printouts are performed.
The reason for the two different black ink tanks is for the different types of printing your unit is able to perform.  They are not intended as backups to each other.  The larger black tank is pigment based, and is primarily used for standard black text printing or output.  The smaller black ink tank is dye based like the color inks, and is used for photo and graphics output.

  • Benchmarking or a "resources reducer" to use on arch linux

    Helo pals....
Let me explain what I want.
I'm a folding at home entusiast, and, at this moment, I'm working with graysky's -ck kernel, liquorix kernel, trying to work with ice and pf ones (headers don't compiles with) and kernel rt
In a second time, the same kernels with NUMA, actually set to "off"
But, I'm looking for a resources reducer, or a benchmarking program that I could make "a load" on the system.
When I put to fold with a kernel, actually, I do it in idle, on normal using, and with "heavy processing", but I've some issues during heavy load:
I do it making some 20gb TAR files, using ark, but, when the files ends, it come back to idle... and, 20Gb uses more or less 20 minutes. 20 minutes is not enough to have a good idea about it.
I thought about compiling something during the folding, but it's not good too, cause if I receive some error during compiling, the system starts in a annoying mode (don't open something, or crash some applications) and I should restart
and, even compiling gives a "non linear" load...
I need to give the system a load about 30%, and/or 20 to 60% to do "real loading tests" could you help me?

  • Reducing memory use in large Java application

    Hello,
I've read through many of the threads on memory optimization in Java and am still puzzled about one thing:
I've got a large Java application that uses around 45,000 kb of memory (according to the Windows Task Manager) when it first starts up. If I reduce the program window and then restore it, the memory use comes down to about 25,000 kb, and stays down, even when the program is in regular use.
    Two questions about this:
    1) Why does reducing and restoring the program have this effect?
    2) Is there any way I can duplicate this effect automatically, so that the program starts off using the smaller amount of memory?
And a final question: does anyone have any recommendations regarding the several commercial products that are available for optimizing memory use in Java apps?
    Many thanks!
    David Porter

this effect (minimize application window, rsize it again) is not a Java but a Windows problem. It also works for pure WIndows applications - try it out!
reducing memory size is not a question of 3rd party java apps or APIS but the JVM and the coding style of the application programmer.
