Reduce noise on thermocouple readings on NI PCI-6225

Hello All
I have a problem with what appears to be static electricity induced noise on thermocouples.
We are testing with a sand like medium flowing across a plexiglass window and measuring temperature in the flow. The interaction of the air/sand mixture flowing across the plexiglass creates a significant amount of static and our thermocouple readings are severly impacted. Is there a way to filter the signal so my data and signal analysis tools ignore obvious off-scale readings ?
The filtering i see seems to only apply to high freqency noise. I would like to trim the signals from the TCs to ignore any measurements above 700DegF and below 32Degf.
Thank you

Hi AeroEng,
It might be helpful to see what the current state of your acquisition VI is - just to get an idea of your overall architecture. I can think of a couple of alternatives.
You could do some external signal filtering to get rid of the extra charge on your thermocouple wires - refer to this very helpful White Paper on the topic of Wiring: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3344/en/
As far as software-defined filtering, you could use the In Range and Coerce function (http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361J-01/glang/in_range_and_coerce/) on your data and use the boolean output to hide your actual data or simply coerce it to your MAX/MIN values
Hopefully this helps!

  • Is there any way I can see which of many "reduce noise" is on a clip?

    Hi Guys
Is there any way I can see which of many "Reduce Noise" actions is on a particular 'shot' from a video clip in my timeline?
I understand that the entire list of Reduce Noise actions I see are all applied to the entire video clip, except in different areas of the same clip, from which I've extracted various shots. I performed different, specific, Reduce Noise actions all on smaller parts of the clip since some Reduce Noise actions needed to be a bit more tailored than others.
Under "Actions" on the left I have a list of approx 10 ticked Reduce Noise actions. Is there any way, by clicking on a clip, I can tell which of these specific Reduce Noise actions apply to that particular area of a clip.
If anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it.
    Warm regards
    Peter

You need to explain why it does not work including exact error messages and what version of iphoto the old library is from
the general answer is that you can not view it using iPhoto - you can convert and open it -  if the old library is from iphoto '08 (version 7.x.x) ore earlier you need to back it up and ad and run the iPhoto library upgrader -  iPhoto '11 or later: About the Library Upgrader - Apple Support - If it is from a newer version or after you run the upgrader then held down the option key while launching iPhoto until the select library window comes up and select the old library from that window to finish the conversion
Repeat the option = launch to switch back to the current library
You can use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  to merge the libraries after they all are for the same version if you want

  • How do you guys reduce noise in Canon 5d mark II video?

I am really interested to know if anybody could give me leads on how to reduce noise in 5d mark II videos. First off - Canon 5d mark II stock HD bitrate is not really nice. Even shooting in day time I have color noise and a lot of noise in shadow areas. Its only after I played with ML 2.3 and tried to shoot 1080p vid on CBR 1.4x mode (thats the maximum bitrate supported by my present CF card but planning to buy a new one).
How do you guys deal with it?

Tests have been done that show ISO settings in multiples of 160 produce the least amount of noise on video. Starting at 160 the 5Dmkii produces less noise than even at lower ISO settings of even 100 ISO.   160, 320, 480(500), 640 and so on. If you need ISO settings of a lot higher and the noise becomes obvious there is video noise reduction software that could help.

  • Smart Sharpen and Reduce Noise preview windows are blank

    Hello,
I am using Photoshop CS5 64 bit with WIndows 7
Whenever I try to use the Smart Sharpen or Reduce Noise image menu items, the preview window for both
    these applications are always blank.
My images are mostly 16 bit with some 8 bit but I always get the same blank preview window
    Any help would be appreciated

Always check your LAYERS panel to ensure you've activated the image layer on which the pixels reside, and not an adjustment layer.  Also make sure you've clicked on the image if there's a layer mask present, so the filter won't be inadvertntly working on the mask.
Assuming you're not on the wrong layer, have you checked to see whether new drivers are available from the web site of the maker of your video card?  Many, many display problems are resolved by updating display drivers.

  • Reduce Noise setting in iPhoto 08 won't save me edits

    I hope someone can help.
Whenever I apply the Reduce Noise filter in iPhoto 08 and then click 'Done' - it doesn't save the changes that I made.
All other effects that I apply are saved (e.g. brightness, tint etc) it is just the Reduce Noise one that doesn't save.
I have tried exporting the photo after the 'Reduce Noise' effect has been applied. It exports the photo successfully - but when I open the photo, the 'Reduce Noise' effects have not been saved.
Is this something that I can fix? Or is this a known bug in this version of iPhoto 08?
If it is a bug - how do I let Apple know so that they can release an update?
Thanks everyone - I'm new to the Mac, this in my first one, and I only got it a couple of weeks ago.

    To talk to Apple:
iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
There have been reports of some folk having difficulty with some of the editing features, but nothing that makes me say it effects everyone. Somethings to try
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there.

  • Why is "Reduce Noise" grayed out?

Trying to clean up an audio, I selected a section where no one was talking and applied Process - Noise Reduction - Set Noise Print. The SCBBOD (Spinning Colored Beach Ball of Doom) went around for a while. Then I was hoping to try Process - Noise Reduction - Reduce Noise... but that option is grayed out, can't select it.
Anybody know if I forgot a step? Or did I lose a plug-in?

The Way this feature work is the following:
You have to go to the File Editor. To do that:
    1) Double click the clip to open an external File editor
    or
    2) Select the clip, then click the File editor tab in the lower pane (CTRL+S to toggle ON)
    - Now you can make your selection selection (you have to select just a few time of "bad" noise)
    - Go to Process Menu -> Noise Recuction -> Set noise print
    - Un-select your selection in the file editor and choose (from the same menu) REDUCE NOISE.
Now you have a new black floating window ... and you have to set the threshold (watch your meter on the right pane (CTRL+D). Set "REDUCTION" about 70%. Playback from this window and Use your hears. 100% is not advised (you have clean sound but it sounds unreal). Use also the Bypass button and the Noise only check button to help you). Then click APPLY

  • Cannot complete the reduce noise command in cs2.

"Cannot complete the reduce noise command in cs2 due to program error." Have uninstalled and reinstalled photoshop but same message appears when I click filter>noise>reduce noise. Same thing happens in filter>sharpen>smart sharpen. These 2 filters used to be working. Can somebody help me please.

  • Reduce Noise Edit Won't Save

When I edit my photos and use the adjust palette, like reduce noise, the photo won't stay the way that I edited it. I click "next" or "done" and it says it's saving the changes but when I click back to the image to check if it did, all the edits that I've done are gone! Specifically the one that reduces noise. When I open the adjust palette the edits magically reappear once again, but when I am viewing them in iPhoto they disappear as soon as I close the adjust palette. I love this feature and it worked wonders, only if there was a way for me to save the changes permanently. Is there a way to fix this??
    iPhoto '08
    Version: 7.1

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you reduce the noise and save is the Revert to Original menu active or is it grayed out? Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • CS5 - Reduce Noise Filter/Remove JPEG Artifact

    Hi,
I'm using 64 bit Photoshop CS5. Something odd happens when I open the Reduce Noise Filter and select Advanced and then put a check in the box for Remove JPEG Artifact. Once I do this, if I do anything else, two sliders appear below the line for Remove JPEG Artifact. The sliders aren't labeled or titled and are disabled. I can't seem to find and explanation as to what these might be for and why they don't appear until after you do something else within the filter after checking Remove JPEG Artifact. Any info or ideas appreciated.

These seem to be drawing artifacts where the sliders from the "Per Channel" tab are not correctly hidden because the filter is not drawing the tabs in correct order. I can repro it on my system as well. Well, one more for the Adobe devs to fix, but nothing to worry about.

  • Audio spikes in right channel while using "reduce noise" function.

When I go to Process>Reduce Noise, the audio gets REALLY loud in the right channel when the dialog box comes up. This has happened to me on different computers, while editing different files. Any suggestions? Click here for screen caps.

  • Soundtrack Pro Newbie - Reduce Noise Problem

    Hey Guys,
This will probably sound like a stupid question but why is reduce noise greyed out when I try to select it? I have imported audio, selected portion of noise, set noise print - but when I select the whole file and try to reduce noise it won't let me.
    Please help
    Thanks
    Tim

It sounds to me like you haven't isolated the noise properly. There is video on noise reduction in the Apple Tutorial online. You may find the steps there helpful.

  • How do you reduce noise?

Is there an easy way to reduce noise due to using high iso? I only have Aperture 2 at the moment.

Best way in my opinion is Noise Ninja plug-in (if you don't want to de-noise in Phototshop).

  • Reducing Noise

    Hello,
Im wondering if there is any way to reduce noise in Logic Pro... if yes, then how? can someone please explain... if no, any recommendations, of plugins or programs that do a good job of noise reduction.
    Thanks

when i record vocals with my mic.. there is a little
background noise in my recording and i would like to
get rid of that.. I know that soundtrack pro has a
great plugin for reducing noise.. but i already spent
a lot of money for logic, and do not want to buy
anything els. I was just wondering if logic had
anything built in it already that i can use to
    reduce noise...
I understand your not wanting to spend more $$ on more gear and/or software. But you should know that usually, noise reduction plug-ins will reduce noise at the expense of dulling your sound somewhat. And until you have a good amount of experience using a de-noising plug-in, especially on a lead vocal, you run the risk of overdoing it and making it sound weird.
So maybe you can use Logic's denoising pluggy to fix your existing lead vocal, but for the future I'd suggest learning to improve your recording technique (especially your gain staging) to eliminate noise from the original recording.

  • Signal averaging to reduce noise

I am an undergrad working with a LabView 4.0 program. Our program deals with acquiring a signal from an acousto-optic tunable filter. I want to be able to average the signal to reduce the noise that we are getting. I am not sure how to orient the program in order for it to do this.

    Chris,
Can you publish an adress where I can see what is the goal of your research - souns interesting for myself.
I guess you measure an amplitude of a signal with none frequency/phase. Try to find out what is a lock-In
amplifier thats the besr way to reduce noise in these cases. Have a look at Stanford research systems. It's
not to complicated to program a lock-in in Labview.
