Reduce resolution, increase sharpness ...

When using Photoshop i like to work at a resolution higher than i need for the final print. That way, when i do all the work at the higher resolution and then scale the image down for the final output, it sort of pulls everything togeather and sharpens up the whole image ... presumeably because you're going from an image with more visual data, to an image with less.
However, in Premire if I capture and edit my video at 1080p, with intended output to DVD or YouTube... then output the final project as say 640X360, 720X480 or 1280X720 ... it seems as if Premiere throws out all the extra resolution, scales the video down and you end up with a video that's no more crisp than when it started, just smaller.
In Photoshop when you change the image size you ahve the option to "re-sample" the image when scaling down using "bicubic sharper (best for reduction)" and it really takes all the extra resolution into account and makes the smaller image much sharper than it's larger counterpart.
Is there a setting or some method of scaling the video down in Premiere that will "re-sample" the video when scalng it down to crunch all the resoltion of the 1080p video itnto the samaller frame size?
Thanks!
Scaled down in Premiere from 1080p ...
Scaled down in Photoshop fom 1080p ...

Scaling video will never make it look "better" than the original.

  • Reduce resolution with Quartz/ColorSync custom filter

Must be missing something at this late hour, but it seems that a custom filter to reduce resolution can be configured in the Apple ColorSync Utility, but cannot be acknowleded in Apple Pages.
Open the Apple ColorSync Utility, change view to Filters, click Add, input a name e.g. Reduce Resolution, and press Return on the keyboard.
Open the Disclose triangle on the right, choose Add Image Effects Component, choose Image Compression, choose Mode, choose JPEG, and choose the reduction of resolution.
The filter will be available in Apple Preview when Save As > PDF is chosen, and will work there, but the filter will not be available in the comparable menus of Apple Pages 3 and Apple Pages 4.
(Adding a Domain component to the filter appears broken under 10.4, as before. Should see if this is also the situation in 10.5.)
    /hh

    Did you ever solve this?
    No, I never solved that.
This particular filter function will work in Apple Preview, though. At least if you have a file with one and only one object such as a TIFF or JPEG.
The decompression functionality should also work if you want to convert compressed JPEG into an uncompressed colour bitmap rather than compress JPEG that is already compressed.

  • Iphone app to take photos with reduced resolution or size

is there an iphone app to take photos with reduced resolution or size(I mean when taking the photo, not modifying after)?

Not that I know of,  that would be a iOS hack.

  • Iphoto reducing resolution from a Canon Rebel T1I

We have a Canon Rebel T1I.  Iphoto after importing from the camera is not saving the full pixel resolution.  It saves it on the computer to a lower pixel/resolution.  I might as well be taking the pics on my phone.  Can this setting be changed?  Can I revert the ones already imported to the higher resolution?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Where are you seeing the reduced resolution?
iPhoto is always importing from the camera at the full resolution. Either you have set the camera to a low resolution or you are looking at the previews or thumbnails of your photos.
You will see the full resolution original that iPhoto is storing, if you select the photo in iPhoto and use the command "File > Reveal in Finder > Original File".
But if you simply drag photos from iPhoto's window you will only export preview images in reduced quality.

  • Satellite L850-1PD increased sharpness disapear after disconecting AC adaptor

    Hello everybody.
I got a problem with my Satellite L850.
When my laptop is running, it has an increased sharpness, and after pulling-out and reinsert power plug the sharpness become normal. What can be a problem
p.s. reinstalled newest amd drivers didnt help.
    Any tips or suggestions please?

What do you mean exactly by increased sharpness?
Did you notice this issue while booting up the unit; for example within the BIOS?
Does it appear using battery power only?
Is the same problem visible on external monitor?
Im not quite sure but from my point of few if everything appears properly on the external monitor, then the graphic card driver as well as the graphic card isnt the problem
    Feedback would be appreciated!

  • PDF Optimizer decreases resolution, increases file size

I've noticed that the file size of my PDF files INCREASES now when I optimize them now that I've updated to version 7.0.7. The image resolution still decreases but the files increase significantly. For example, I have a 2 page document that originally was 3.2mb as a hi-resolution PDF. After I optimized it down to 72dpi for the images the file increased to 20.5mb!! I use this feature for documents that we publish on our web sites or to send a proof to a customer.
Is this just a new bug in version 7.0.7?

    MAC G5, 1 gb RAM, OS 10.4
    Indesign CS3
Acrobat version : at least 7.0.6 or newer (I'm not at work to verify the version)
I'm having the same problem. Doing a SAVE AS does not fix anything.
I have created a High Res PDF of a 56 page catalogue using Indesign CS3. I had to divide the document into two sections. The first file is 131 megs and the other 78 megs. I have to print high res for the client. Then I need to downsize the resolution so that I can send the catalogue to the client. Whether I choose PDF Optimizer or Reduce file..., the 131 megs PDF became 1.27 GB and not to mention the time wasted! This is enormous! I assure you that I have checked all settings for the PDF.
To counter the problem, I have to do a SAVE AS POSCRIPT file. Then I reduce the size using Acrobat Distiller. The 131 megs file then became 21 megs, which is what it should have been with Optimizer.
I don't understand what's happening with the Optimizer? It seems that there's an update version that has installed this bug. Which one? How to fix this problem? Is there anyone on this earth that knows what to do?

  • SSRS, Reduce resolution of image?

I can find lots of posts about wanting to increase or improve the resolution of an image in SSRS. I am looking for the opposite: how to reduce the resolution in order to create a smaller Excel file size when users export to Excel.
Users run the report, export to Excel, and email the file to external users and customers. The report can sometimes have up to 100 images so the file size can be 15MB. The desire is to reduce the size of the Excel file. The users want to keep the image size
as is (3in x 3in) if possible so perhaps reducing the resolution will decrease the size? Of course, then they will complain about the image quality :-/
My report pulls the image from SQL. The images are taken with digital cameras and usually range from 1 to 2 MB each. The image properties are:
    Size: 3in x 3in
    Sizing: Fit
    MIME type: png
Running SQL and SSRS 2008 (not R2).
Is there an SSRS option for this? Ideally it would be report specific, not a server wide setting. Maybe a SSRS code function or even SQL code to reduce the size as it comes from the database?
    Thanks.

    Hi Rdvb,
There is no an option to reduce the resolution of image in Reporting Services. Here has a MSDN article about Image Device Information Settings, please see:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms155373(v=sql.100).aspx
If you have any concern about this behavior, you can submit a feedback at
http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback and hope it is resolved in the next release of service pack or product. Your feedback enables Microsoft to make software and services the best that they can be, Microsoft might consider to add this feature
in the following release after official confirmation.
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Why does Auto-enhance reduce resolution?

I noticed when I apply auto-enhance to pictures taken on my iPhone 4S, the resolution in the EXIF data shows just over 3MP. I did a before and after and saw a huge drop in resolution. 3264x2448 without auto-enhance and 1536x2048 with auto-enhance used. No cropping was done. The only edit applied was auto-enhance. Why does the resolution get reduced fom 10mp to just over 3mp?

Any time you encode, or edit, a jpeg file, which is a type of picture file, it reduces the quality of the picture and to make up for the loss the resolution is lowered

  • Monitor resolution & increasing font size

I am a pc user swithcing to mac...
I have an external non-apple monitor whose native resolution is 1400 x 900, so I have set the mac to that resolution.
    1) does the mac have a "native" resoltuion, or is any option offered "native"?
    2) More importantly...higher resolution monitors make things smaller, too small for my eyes. In Windows (desktop, properties, settings, advanced, DPI setting), you could set the DPI font size to 125%, which increased all fonts for all programs by that amount. I don't find a similar setting in mac. Is there a way to universally increase the font size?
    Thanks

  • Reducing resolution of digital photos

I took a number of digital photos at very high resolution (new 2 GB memory card, so I thought, why not?). But the downloaded photos have so much data that I can't send even a single photo via email. Is there a way to reduce the photo resolution in iPhoto so that the pictures can be more readily sent to others?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
What e-mail client are you using? If you use Apple's Mail programme, then at the bottom right of the message window you can resize the pic. If you're using something else you can resize pics using the File -> Export command, then export the pics to the desktop and attach them from there.

  • Reducing resolution in calendar

I have satellite internet that is not allowing large resolution of my newly created calendar to go through. How can I reduce the resolution of the photos without recreating the whole thing?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
When you make the calendar it's converted to a pdf for uploading to the Print Services. Reducing the quality of the jpegs in your Library will not alter the size of the pdf and may well reduce the quality of the finished product.

  • Reducing Resolution--not size--of photos

i am involved with animal rescue and send out a lot of photos.
i know how to resize them in iphoto but sometimes i just want to reduce the resolution, not the actual size of the photos, because a lot of people on my distribution list still use dialup and it takes them forever to download large attachments.
is it possible to reduce the resolution without the size in iphoto5 and, if so, how?
    thanx.

    Hi Jane,
You want to reduce the file size, which reduces the quality in order to email and for the web. iPhoto will not do that, but other graphic programs will.
If you don't a couple of extra steps, you can drag the photos to the desktop right from the library window. Select all, then use a little handy contextual menu item to batch resize. You can keep the same dimensions, but reduce the quality to make the file sizes smaller.

  • Resolution Increase for new PB 12"

Hi, new to this discussion board, but i figure i'd give it a try. I'm curious as to if i can increase the screen resolution on my laptop screen itself. Currently, I can't increase it past the 1024 x 768. I'm new to macs, so I'm wondering if there's a way to add more resolution options, if there's something i need to download to add to my system utilities or something. I'd appreciate the help. Thanks.

Hi Percy, welcome to the Discussions.
There's no way of increasing your resolution past 1024x768. LCD screens are different to CRT screens in that they have a "native resolution" that cannot be exceeded*. In your case, that native resolution in 1024x768. Lesser resolutions can be simulated, but with degradation in image quality.
    * CRTs have a maximum resolution too, but it's usually much higher than the one normally used for optimal image quality and GUI usability.
