Reduce the creation time of image
Now the problem is I am using a function which takes in parameters for an image and creates an image . I have already posted an article saying that I am loading six images into my web page and so ultimately everything to get loaded it is taking six seconds . this i am doing with threads..
The Java Tutorial has a page with tips:

If you're buying HD movies, you can change the setting in the Store preferences in iTunes to prefer 720p. Or you can just buy SD versions.

Reduce the execution time for the below query
Hi,
Please help me to reduce the execution time on the following query .. if any tuning is possible.
I have a table A with the columns :
ID , ORG_LINEAGE , INCLUDE_IND ( -- the org lineage is a string of ID's. If ID 5 reports to 4 and 4 to 1 .. the lineage for 5 will be stored as the string -1-4-5)
Below is the query ..
select ID
from A a
where INCLUDE_IND = '1' and
exists (
select 1
from A b
where b.ID = '5'
and b.ORG_LINEAGE like '%-'||a.ID||'-%'
order by ORG_LINEAGE;
The only constraint on the table A is the primary key on the ID column.
Following will be the execution plan :
Execution Plan
0 SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE (Cost=406 Card=379 Bytes=2
653)
1 0 SORT (ORDER BY) (Cost=27 Card=379 Bytes=2653)
2 1 FILTER
3 2 TABLE ACCESS (FULL) OF 'A' (Cost=24 Card
=379 Bytes=2653)
4 2 TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'A' (Co
st=1 Card=1 Bytes=6)
5 4 INDEX (RANGE SCAN) OF 'ORG_LINEAGE'
(NON-UNIQUE)I order it by the org_lineage to get the first person. So it is a result problem? The order by doesn't give you the first person, it gives you a sorted result set (of which there may be zero, one, or thousands).
If you only want one row from that, then you're spending a lot of time tuning the wrong query.
How do you know which ORG_LINEAGE row you want?
Maybe it would help if you posted some sample data. -
How can i reduce the saturation of a image to make it almost transparent ?
how can i reduce the saturation of a image to make it almost transparent ?
You're talking about two different things:
"Saturation" means the amount of colour, so you would use a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to lower the saturation to make the image (or layer) appear more "black and white".
"Transparency" is set by reducing the value of the "Opacity" in the Layers panel. If that Opacity adjustment isn't available for the layer you want to make more transparent, first double-click on the layer to change it from a "Background" layer to a regular layer.

TO REDUCE THE EXECUTION TIME OF REPORT
HI,
CAN ANYONE TELL ME THAT, HOW CAN I REDUCE THE EXECUTION TIME OF THE REPORT. IS THERE ANY IDEA TO IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE OF THE REPORT.Hi Santosh,
Good check out the following documentation
<b>Performance tuning</b>

Nested selects
Select using JOINS
Use the selection criteria

Select with index support
Select Into table
Select with selection list

<b>Optimizing the load of the database</b>
For all entries
The for all entries creates a where clause, where all the entries in the driver table are combined with OR. If the number of entries in the driver table is larger than rsdb/max_blocking_factor, several similar SQL statements are executed to limit the length of the WHERE clause.
The plus
Large amount of data
Mixing processing and reading of data
Fast internal reprocessing of data
Fast
The Minus
Difficult to program/understand
Memory could be critical (use FREE or PACKAGE size)
Some steps that might make FOR ALL ENTRIES more efficient:
Removing duplicates from the the driver table
Sorting the driver table
If possible, convert the data in the driver table to ranges so a BETWEEN statement is used instead of and OR statement:
FOR ALL ENTRIES IN i_tab
WHERE mykey >= i_tab-low and
mykey <= i_tab-high.
Nested selects
The plus:
Small amount of data
Mixing processing and reading of data
Easy to code - and understand
The minus:
Large amount of data
when mixed processing isnt needed
Performance killer no. 1
Select using JOINS
The plus
Very large amount of data
Similar to Nested selects - when the accesses are planned by the programmer
In some cases the fastest
Not so memory critical
The minus
Very difficult to program/understand
Mixing processing and reading of data not possible
Use the selection criteria

The performance database
Optimizing the load of the database
Using table buffering
Using buffered tables improves the performance considerably. Note that in some cases a stament can not be used with a buffered table, so when using these staments the buffer will be bypassed. These staments are:
Select DISTINCT
ORDER BY / GROUP BY / HAVING clause
Any WHERE clasuse that contains a subquery or IS NULL expression
JOIN s
A SELECT... FOR UPDATE
If you wnat to explicitly bypass the bufer, use the BYPASS BUFFER addition to the SELECR clause.
Use the ABAP SORT Clause Instead of ORDER BY
The ORDER BY clause is executed on the database server while the ABAP SORT statement is executed on the application server. The datbase server will usually be the bottleneck, so sometimes it is better to move thje sort from the datsbase server to the application server.
If you are not sorting by the primary key ( E.g. using the ORDER BY PRIMARY key statement) but are sorting by another key, it could be better to use the ABAP SORT stament to sort the data in an internal table. Note however that for very large result sets it might not be a feasible solution and you would want to let the datbase server sort it.
Avoid ther SELECT DISTINCT Statement
As with the ORDER BY clause it could be better to avoid using SELECT DISTINCT, if some of the fields are not part of an index. Instead use ABAP SORT + DELETE ADJACENT DUPLICATES on an internal table, to delete duplciate rows.
Good Luck and thanks

Comparing the creation time of two jars.
Hi,
My requirement is that i need to compare the creation time of two of the jars and see which one of the jar is the latest.
I did it using the following code i get the output in the form of strings so i cant compare them to find which one is the latest.
import java.io.*;

if (currtime > maxtime) {
System.exit(5);
How can i do it?
Can anyone help me out in this.
Thanks,
Kavipriya.Hi Clap,
Thanks for ur reply. Let me say you the scenario clearly. We are in the process of automating some of the process. We have builds running daily night and our automation will run using that build.
Currently the build which is getting generated does have manifest in it. For our automation framework we cant suggest adding the manifest. Which will not be agreed.
Our automation will be checking till 10.am. to check whether the build is ready if not it will come out of the loop. If the build is avaialble within 10 then it will take the build and see whetehr the creation date and time of the build and the one i am having locally or different. If diff it will see whether the build generated is latest than the one i am having.
If it so then the process will run.
So hope you got my issue. -
Can I reduce the execution time for a step in a TestStand ?
Hi,
I calculated the a single step execution time for TestStand Ver 2.0. It comes to around 20 milliseconds/step. Can I reduce this excution time ?
Are there any settings available for configuring execution time parameters except result logging and exception handlings to reduce the execution time ?It's difficult to tell how you what time you are reporting for your step. Clearly we don't have control of the time it takes your code to execute. However, we are constantly working on reducing the overhead of calling the code. In addition, you don't mention the type of step you are calling. One way to have a common reference is to use the example \Examples\Benchmarks\Benchmarks.seq. Below have have posted the results of running this sequence with both tracing and result collection enabled and then disabled. I have a 700 MHz, 128 MB RAM, Dell PIII laptop. In this example there is no code within the code modules. You notice that calling a DLL has the least overhead with a minimum of 7.459 ms with tracing and results enabled and 0.092 ms with tracing and results disabled. Although not included below, if I enable results be disable tracing I get a minimum time of 0.201 ms, a 100x improvement on your time.
With Results and Tracing enabled.
7.578 milliseconds per step for CVI Standard Prototype - Object File
7.579 milliseconds per step for CVI Standard Prototype - DLL
7.459 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype
8.589 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit
9.563 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit with Precondition
10.015 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit with Precondition and 4 Parameters
7.868 milliseconds per step for ActiveX Automation
8.892 milliseconds per step for LabVIEW Standard Prototype
With tracing and results disabled.

0.182 milliseconds per step for CVI Standard Prototype - DLL
0.092 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype
0.178 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit
0.277 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit with Precondition
0.400 milliseconds per step for DLL Flexible Prototype Numeric Limit with Precondition and 4 Parameters

How do I reduce the bit depth of images to 1-bit within Acrobat 9?
I am hoping a simple solution exists within Acrobat 9 for reducing the bit-depth of images to 1-bit.
I know of two methods that both seem more like workarounds. One, edit the image using Photoshop. Two, without Photoshop, export the page as a 1-bit PNG and recreate the page in Acrobat. It seems like one of the preflight fixups should be able to get it done with the right settings. But, it's a labyrinth of unfamiliarity. There's no predefined 1-bit conversion in Preflight because it doesn't make sense. Preflight will not dither bitmaps, so most images will become black squares. Extreme color conversion is only intended for text/vector objects.
If you want to try it anyway, you can create a custom Fixup if you have a 1-bit ICC profile.
Preflight > Single Fixups
Options menu > Create new Preflight Fixup
Name it something like "Convert all to 1-bit BW"
Search for "Convert colors" in the type of fixup box and add it
Destination tab > Destination > your ICC profile for 1-bit black
Uncheck "use destination from Output Intent"
Keep everything else as default, though I'd suggest using "Embed as output intent for PDF/X" if you're making PDF/X documents
Conversion Settings tab > All Objects + Any Color (except spot) + Convert to destination + Use rendering intent
Press the + key to duplicate this step, and change the second copy to "Spot Color(s)"
Press + again and change the third copy to "Registration color"
Save the fixup and run it.
In case you don't have a 1-bit ICC profile installed, I've attached one. -
Index creation a long time..Please help to tune the creation time.

What version of the database?
Creating indexes in parallel is described in the documentation. Search the on-line documentation for the syntax for create index; if there aren't any specific examples of creating indexes in parallel do a Google search for "create index parallel" -

asifIs it still running? Almost half an hour now.
By the time we find a solution maybe it's already done :)
I don't think you could do much after it's already started. As long as it's not hung, it will finish sooner or later. Make sure there are no other applications runing on the server to compete CPU and diskio with oracle. -
How can we reduced the patch time for u6394500.drv
Hi,
This patch generally takes 14-15 hours to upgrade R12.0.4 , I want to If some body have pointers to reduce the patch applying time.
thanks in advance
SyedYou could try disabling archivelog mode while patching, and use 4 workers per CPU core that you have on the database server.
You can try using a staged appl_top approach, but that will not likely help much since 12-13 hours of that time is spent in the database portion.

How to reduce the cloning time if using cold backup?
Hi,
We are using EBS r12 (12.0.6) with database 10.2.0.3 in Linux Redhat 4 32-bit envoirnment.
Our datbase size is around 480 GB and we are facing the issues to provide the clone to my consultants for meet the target timelines in given time.
(Source:)---- Production Dell R900 Server machine having 32-GB RAM and 8 Quard Core CPU's.
(Target:)---- Clone Dell 2950 Server machine having 16-GB RAM and 4-Quard Core CPU's.
Currectly we are taking cold backup like:
1: Auto shutdown EBS r12 database nighthy at 12:00 AM daily and compress the backup using tar utility in linux. This process takes 6:00 hours aprox:
2: After that we move compressed file to clone machine and then uncompressed it, and this process takes 5:00 hours aprox.
3: And performe standard cloning steps.
Questions:
1: How to reduce time of this backup process?
3: Is there any other way to reduce the cloning process.
2: What type of backup oracle recommended to their customers for this type of process?
Thanks.1: How to reduce time of this backup process?Without using third party tools, it might be hard to tune the timing of compressing/uncompressing the file.
Have you tried to use scp command? This would help if your network throughput is acceptable.
3: Is there any other way to reduce the cloning process.Since the main issue you have with the copy, then you might copy the files remotely from the source to the target, or using any other storage/backup tools (like file system snapshot).
2: What type of backup oracle recommended to their customers for this type of process?Oracle does not recommend any type of backup as the tools used are not Oracle products.
Thanks,
Hussein
