Reduced Photo Size
I've got a problem. i had 7 gb of photos in my library, also they were backed up using backup on my firlite hard drive. I don't know how this happened, but my library size was reduced to 238 mb, reducing each individual photo size, and making many of the photos nearly unviewable. I didn't notice this until after the next backup was scheduled (they are scheduled every week), so the photos backed up on the hd are the same way too. I'm sure there isn't, but it would be awesome if there was some way to get these photos back.
Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. This is a long shot but you might try SubrosaSoft FileSalvage, in it's demo mode, to see what it can find on your external HD that it can recover. It will tell you what it finds before you have to commit to purchase. If there hasn't been much activity on that HD may not all of the files have been overwritten and may be recoverable.
I don't know how your files could have been downsized. Are they about 360 x 270 in size? That's the thumbnail size for most files.
Do a search on your boot drive for images whose sizes are greater than about 100 KB to see what's on it. It's a long shot but give it a go.
Do you Twango?

My ipad3 can't reduce photo size for email.
Here's two apps you can use or get Apple's iPhoto for the new iPad.
Simple Resize http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/simple-resize/id327776379?mt=8

I'm stumped ... how do I reduce the size of photos for e-mail?
If you are using a client supported by iPhoto you simply select the photo(s) and click email - one of the options is JPEG compression and another is photo size
If you are using Apple Mail then you have a second selection available in the lower right hand corner of the mail create window
If you are using a non supported client including a web browser then you must export the photos first reducing them as part of the export process

Recently I shot some photos of a pee wee wrestling team. I'm trying to get the photos of the individual wrestlers to fit onto a 3.5" button but the photo keeps cutting off part of the wrestler. How can I reduce the size of my photo to fit onto the button?

One way to resize the image is to go to:
Image >> Resize >> Image Size.
You will get something like this:
Hope this gives you some ideas. -
I have tried following all the possibilities for reducing a photo size for email.
I do not get any options for reducing the photo size when I attach a photo in an email, I get no pop up boxes or choice to reduce the picture size.
Any clues pleaseif i get the question right - you have phtos on your pad, and want to up[load them to somewhere, but they are too big. if that is the case, here is a workaround - until somebody smarter comes through with the right solution.
Mail the photo to yourself. I just mailed a photo that was in i photo at 4.1 meg to myself. When it arrived, it was 104 k.
If you mail it from the camera roll it will also reduce size. you can then save that new image, and upload it. -
I've been using iPhoto for years with good success. Recently, when I edit and crop artwork photos, it's been saving the cropped photo as a much smaller version, going from around 3MB to only 500KB or smaller. I need the cropped version to be as big as the original. Not sure why this is happening but could use some help in making it stop. Thanks!
Hi,
I know that I'm cropping the physical file but in the past this wasn't an issue for the size of the cropped piece. Even if I take just a little bit away, the file size is somehow getting deeply reduced. Resolution is still fine on the screen or for a quick email, but for when I need to make a high quality giclee print for a client, the 500Kb size just won't do. I need to retain the 2Mb original quality. I'm attaching the examples here. And thanks so much for helping ! -
Reducing photo size/resolution
Hello!
Trying to print tiny versions of much larger photos on a cv. How can I reduce the image size, dpi, resolution etc, to make the photo file small enough to print without causing problems? Should I try to export it to a web page to create a thumbnail image and try to re-import that?
Any help much appreciated!
Cheers,\TonySelect the pic in the iPhoto Window and go Share -> Export. In the resulting window you'll get the option to resize.

How do I reduce the size of photos to use on website?
Thanks to the helpful person who recommended I use Rapidweaver to build a website, I am slowly getting somewhere. It is so simple and just like Apple applications that I think I can do this.
My problem now is that when I tried to transfer a photo from iPhoto to the draft website page it comes across so large it fills the page.
How do I reduce the size of photos so that I can bring them across? I need to show about 20 photos on the web pages. Do they need to be in a different format and if so how do I change it to the appropriate one?
Many thanks.
ibook Mac OS X (10.3.9)Hi Casuarina,
Go to this site and click on the Desktop Version Quicktime movie for a small tutorial. It will explain everything to you and you can see how you resize right within Rapid Weaver. It's really quite nifty.

I am trying to send a photo in an email and the file is huge. I remember something about reducing the size of the file but of course can't remember how.
Use a utility such as Graphic Converter to change the image to a jpeg using options to reduce the size of the converted image.

I have an imac 27 inch O SX 10.6.8. using iphoto 11 Version 9.1.5. I have scanned some photos at very high resolution with each photo being about 45MB. They're saved to desktop. How can I reduce the size of the scanned photo's they are crashing iphoto.
What format are they? Tiif? Jpeg? You can compress them with a lot of apps - including Preivew and just about any graphics editor out there. I'm not sure that 45mb would crash iPhoto thogh, are yo sure that's the cause? I know that some folks have mentioned pixel dimensions causing issues, as can color profiles.

How do I reduce the size of photo in iPhoto? The size of my imported photos from my camera are 2 - 3 MB and for my purpose I need 200 - 400 KB. Scanned copies of older photographs with a size of 100 to 500 KB work very well. Any help is greatly appreciated.
File -> Export and make your choices in the Export dialogue.
Jpeg Quality and Size will have most effect on file size. Note that 'Size' refers to the pixel dimensions of the photo.

How do I reduce photo file size in Pages?
I am colaborating on a report that contains photos, which I want to exchange with my colleague via email. It's too big as is, but if I choose the Reduce File Size option, Pages over reduces and the photos become blurry and pixelated. If there a way to find a happy medium within Pages, and not be exporting to a pdf? Thanks in advance for any help.
Question asked and answered several times.
Adjust the picture files to fit your needs before inserting them in a Pages document.
My own scheme is :
build a draft document in which I insert the original pictures (tiff or png)
When the document's layout is OK, grab the dimensions of resized pictures.
Use a tool dedicated to pictures edition (they are numerous even if you want a free one).
to crop the pictures.
Re sample the cropped pictures with a rez between 80 dpi and 300 dpi according to your needs.
Then and only then, save as Jpeg to reduce the files sizes.
Remove the pictures embedded in you doc and insert the edited ones.
It may be useful to re-start from scratch and copy paste the text components if you applied masks to crop the pictures during the first step.
