Reduced printing in InDesign

I recently upgraded to OS 10.9. I created a document 8.5 x 11 with a bleed and am printing on a 9 x 12 sheet. Before I upgraded it printed fined, now it wants to reduce it. The fit to page box is unchecked. Any ideas?

Check the printer settings of OS X and also check the ones in Indesign, right before printing. The "printable area" is a parameter of printers which was probably affected by the OS update.

  • How do I select a thick paper to print from Indesign?

How do I select a thick paper to print from Indesign? I have to go to the printer to select the thicker paper. I would like to select the paper from my computer in Indesign.  Other programs allow this.

At the bottom of the print dialog box is a button labeled Printer. That will lead you to the printer-specific options like paper weight.

  • Print quality poor on bitmap logos when printing from InDesign

We have a studio of MACs. One of them prints this indesign document fine, the quality of the bitmap images looks like it does on screen.
On all the other MACs printing to the same Printer the bitmap logos on the same document print out with really poor quality.
Any ideas ?? This is driving me mad as have checked the printer settings and it appears they match the working MAC.
Dont think its a driver thing as all other documents and anything other than bitmap logos print fine.

They have said the following regarding the file type ...... They are saved as tif files but in photoshop they are converted to Bitmap under the Image>Mode>Bitmap option

  • New problem printing from InDesign CS4 in Lion

After having great success with Aisolve's earlier fix on printing from InDesign CS4 after upgrading to Lion, I'm having a new problems after installing the OS X 10.7.2 upgrade last week. When I try to print from  InDesign CS4 and Illustrator CS4 to my Lanier 445c/Ricoh C4500 at my workplace I get the following error message:
"Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem."
This seems like a different issue this time, as I'm able to print to my home printers, an HP LasertJet 2600n and an HP Photosmart C4270. I thought it might be a printer driver problems, but I've gone to Lanier's site and they don't have any new printer drivers for Mac OS X 10.7.
I also some research on Adobe's site, and found this message affecting CS1, 2 & 3. I tried the only fix that seemed to apply to me, which was re-naming/deleting the InDesign Deafults and InDesign SavedData files. (I have this problems even when I'm printing a text-only file without any graphics.) This fix didn't work.
I can print to the Lanier/Ricoh from Acrobat 9, and all my non-Adobe software just fine, so my work-around to date has been exporting to PDF and printing from there. My big problem is that I need the "Print Booklet" feature in InDesign for a big job I've got coming up this week. Can't do that from Acrobat. :-(
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    mmsteer,
I think I may be able to help you with this problem, which I was having with CS4 when I first upgraded to Lion, and others were having with CS3. This fix is courtesy of Aisolve on these discussion boards:
Remove the Adobe PDF PPDs from the following folders:
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_CN.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Ja.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/ko.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_TW.lproj,
Be sure to go to your system Library, not your user Library.
Also, regarding my current problem, I spoke with an Apple tech person and found that the 10.7.2 upgrade apparently is the culprit, and is incompatible with wireless printing to my Lanier printer. I CAN print connected through USB. That's a work-around for now, but I'll need to contact Lanier about upgrading their driver for OS X 10.7.2.
Aisolve was helping me with this issue, too, and assures me that if I'm able to generate a postscript file (which I was), and able to generate a PDF by distlling it through Adobe Distiller (which I am), then I can safely assume that the problem lies with the hardware, in this case the printer driver. This lines up with what Apple told me.

  • How do i print from indesign (CS4) landscape without losing the edges.

i'm a PC to MAC newbe. Also moved from CS2 toCS4.
can't for the life of me figure out how to print from indesign in landscape layout without losing the left 2.5 inches of print. having the same trouble with #10 envelopes.
    your help would be appreciated!

Usually this problem has to do with choosing the correct size and orientation of paper, both page size and print paper size.
IOW, if you want to print to a #10 envelope, start a new document that is exactly the size of a #10 envelope. Then when you print it, choose a paper size that is exactly the size of a #10 envelope.
What size page are you printing, and what paper size are you choosing when you print it?

  • Printing from InDesign asking for computer login password

Hi. Just got new MacPro, CS4 Design Premium. Every time printing from InDesign asking for computer login password. Never happened with CS3. Is there any way to avoid job holding in printer's dialog box, waiting for authentification?  No problems printing from Acrobat, Photoshop or Entourage etc. Checked computer preferences, nothing shows permission/security restrictions are applied. What could cause holding print jobs from InDesign?
Here's what it says in Status field: On Hold (Authentification required)...so I have to click “Resume” every time, enter password and only then it prints.
Printer: HP5100 laserJet. HP did not associated this issue with printer or drivers. Please help. Thanks!

    Thanks for your help, Marvin!
Sharing has been set up, PW is in keychain. Still asking for "authenification"..
After talking to Adobe tech support, here's the answer:
"Issue:  When attempting to print, customer is continually asked to authenticate.
Resolution:  Printer is possibly too old to understand the print data InDesign is outputting. Try updating drivers or using a newer printer".
I guess I will request new printed from management, mine is 2003...

  • Problems printing an InDesign document

    Hello
I am trying to print an Indesign document with two layers - colour and text. Both layers are visible, but the colour layer won't print. Does anyone have and suggestions as to why this might be?

First thing, what is the color? If it is using the [Paper] swatch it isn't really a color and won't print.
Next, check Preview mode to see if the color is still visible, if not, either the object or the layer is set to non-printing.
Finally, check the printer driver for a setting like Print Background Color. It used to be pretty common to not print the backgrounds from web pages.

  • Print with indesign CS on the  Epson stylus photo R2400

    Hi,
I just bought the R2400, but find some problems by printing from indesign, I am using a power PC G4 with a 10.4.6 version.
I would like to print with the premium semigloss photo paper to have a nice photo colour feeling but the print outs are very different from the original folder, also a font directly made in indesign is printed ok but if I place an image with a logo, the logo is pixelised (if I print the same image with photoshop, the logo is fine)
If somebody could give me some advices, that would be great thanks.
    Best
    Perrine

Well, you picked the very hardest way to do it, and as time goes on, you will probably discover many other things wrong with your system as well. You CANNOT go back to Tiger from Leopard via an archive and install; you have to wipe the drive and start over from scratch, and then transfer all your data over from a backup and reinstall most, if not all, of your applications so the right elements are in the right places. Even so you'll never get your system exactly back to where it was, unless you had a perfect bootable Tiger backup (via SuperDuper) and merely restored from that. Obviously whatever Leopard element that killed your printing capability is still on your frankenstein system of BOTH Tiger and Leopard parts.
There are hundreds of posts on the issue of reverting to Tiger from Leopard, many quite detailed. So many things are changed from upgrading from one to the other that what you attempted (unless you completely wiped the drive and all your data) has always proven disastrous, which is why I highly recommended against it after reading hundreds of horror stories here.
I suggest doing a search at downgrading from Leopard to Tiger, following those instructions if you can, and making the best of it. You'll find that springing the $200 for an external drive would have been a much better and easier solution, because it can come in very handy if you ever need to do any maintenance on your internal hard drive, or if some update or problems kill your internal drive and you can't even boot the system. Not to mention sooner or later always needing more storage capability, and even a drive for reliable backups.
I would never dream of attempting a downgrade or needing to do it in the first place (having taken precautions as to never have to), so I can't give you any further advice than that.

  • Color problems printing from InDesign CC 2014 (and CC)

When I print an ad I'm working on from InDesign, the color is off by a lot. If I save the doc as a pdf, it prints correctly from the pdf. If I print from the same InDesign doc on another machine, it prints fine. The problem is not only with this document. Using Bridge I have synched the color, restarted the computer, reinstalled InDesign CC 2014, trashed the Preferences—basically I've done everything listed on the InDesign printing troubleshooting page. Since the documents print correctly from another machine (all the settings are the same), I shouldn't have to use a work-around. I can't be making a pdf every time I need to print from InDesign—which is all the time. Any help appreciated.

Are you using the same printer and driver on both machines?

  • Cannot print from InDesign v3.0.1 on Mac Pro

I am attempting to print from InDesign v3.0.1 to a new Epson R3000 printer. Last week the connection and prints were fine. Now, when I select the "Print" dialog box, Indesign crashes.  Is there possibly a conflict between my older InDesign and running OSX v10.6.8 on a Mac Pro?  I re-installed InDesign and also re-installed the Epson print driver, with no luck.  Since I originally bought InDesign as part of the Creative Suite package, the "upgrade" cost to either the latest CS package, or stand alone ID, is $599.00.  Adobe sales told me my CS package serial number would not work with the $119 ID stand alone upgrade.  It is hard to justify $599 for a software I use at most four times a year.

Well folks, I downloaded the latest version of InDesign (CS5.5) and now I can at least print from my InDesign document.  Using Epson Profiles and Epson paper stock I can make decent prints on the new Epson R3000 printer.  But when I attempt to print InDesign documents (my photo portfolio pages) onto Hahnemuhle German Etching paper, using a Hahnemuhle ICC Profile, the photographic images are far too saturated and have a red/magenta cast.  I tried everything, including spending almost an hour on the phone with Epson support.  But, we could not come up with a solution.  Has anyone else had similar problems printing from an Epson R3000 and InDesign?  I can print TIFF photo files from Photoshop CS5 just fine, so clearly it has something to do with InDesign.  Suggestions are most welcome, thanks!  Mark W.

  • Crashes when printing from InDesign CS3

It used to be that when I tried to print in InDesignCS3 in my MAC 10.7.5; I would go to:  Crash printing | Illustrator, InDesign | CS3, CS4 | Mac OS 10.7
the I was told to just delete the following files:
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_CN.lproj
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Ja.lproj
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/ko.lproj
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_TW.lproj
and everything worked out fine.  Now, the above files don't even exist. Is there a new work-around??????

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately we have already tried in safe mode and the issue is still there. We have also disabled all addons, created a new test profile and uninstalled re-installed Thunderbird and all print drivers, and Thunderbird still crashes when you try to print an email. Customer is considering using a different email client if we cant figure this out soon.

  • Cant Print from InDesign CS3

    Hi All,

    -Out-of-Memory Error

  • Won't print from InDesign/Acrobat CS3

I have the strangest situation with an install of CS3 Standard edition on a 10.4.9 iMac C2D and printing from InDesign and Acrobat.
I installed this last week on 3 iMac's. One older G5 iSigh iMac, and 2 C2D iMac's. Everything went fine, untill on one of the two Core 2 Duo machines I wanted to print. (Every machine has their own Canon IP 4200 attached to it). The printjob is handed of to the system, and after that the progress bar in Printmonitor just keeps on scrolling. Nothing happens.
Printing from PhotoshopCS3/IllustratorCS3 and even Bridge is not a problem, and printing from Indesign CS2 is also not a problem.
What I have done: reset PRAM, reset PMU, repair permissions, deinstall and reinstall printer, reset printersystem and reinstall, clean fontcaches, tested fonts, made simple documents with just a colored rectange, printing using the Adobe PDF printer and printing from Acrobat, nothing works. Connected and installed a completely different printer (HP Deskjet 7200) and that doesn't work either. The only thing that DOES work is printing to a shared printer on another Mac.
Before I go for an Archive and Install, anybody else have any bright ideas? Thanx for thinking with me...
