Reducing AI size for clip art (wmf or emf) CS3 on Windows

I was actually in an Adobe workshop last week with an Adobe goddess and she was not able to answer this question - so unfortunately, I do not have much hope. But the last question I asked on this forum was answered so quickly and accurately I thought I would give it a shot!
I am creating clip art for a client who has decided they can only use .wmf or .emf files for their application. My illustrations, when exported to .wmf, are around 3MB. Obviously, for clip art this is much to large, since these files are typically around 7-15 KB.
I have tried numerous ways to reduce my file size drastically, (including merging, saving as older versions, tiff's & png's and reimporting, correcting in photoshop...) and the only way that has produced a small enough file size was to remove any beauty in my illustrations and make them completely flat, solid, colors. At first, the client was pleased with the results, but has now decided they are not pleased and want to be able to use the original illustrations that I provided and still have a small file size.
Suggestions?

Your client is painting you into an impossibly small corner, and for no reason. Large posters such as you will be producing are printed on expensive inkjet plotters, operated by professional print service bureaus. Those people use professional graphics programs, including Illustrator. They would most likely prefer either native files (ie: Illustrator) or PDFs. Your client is asking for impossibly small EMF files because... well there’s no way to logically finish that sentence. Probably that’s the format they grew up with or that they were told works best with Microsoft Word. Perhaps it did, too, in the 1990s.
Since quality of image is probably the most important factor, anything you do to make smaller size or EMF compatibility a priority will compromise that, probably for no good reason. See if the print shop will accept PDF. See if the client can work with PDF, if the client feels some need to work with the files.

Do a search for clip art using your favorite search engine - Google or Bing are good places to start.

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

How do I reduce MB size for jpg photos?

How do I reduce the MB size for a group of photos I took. I want to save these reduced photos and send them to a client.

IF you want to reduce just the file size and not necessarily the dimensional size...
Create an action to "Save for Web", and run a batch using that action.
I'll show it on a Mac but it's the same for Windows.
1. Open one photo.
2. In the Actions panel click the menu selector and choose "New Action.
3. Name the action and click "Record".
4. Press Alt+Ctrl+Shift+S to Save for Web (Alt+Cmd+Shift+S on Mac).
5. Select a save destination and then close the file, selecting "Do Not Save" when you do so.
6. Press the Stop button.
7. Click File>Automate>Batch.
8. Choose the parameters for the batch and click "OK"
It'll reduce the file size of the photos you chose.

Reduce pdf size for Livescribe files

Does anyone have Livescribe for Mac? I am trying to reduce the pdf size of these files once I convert, and having no luck with ColorSync filters.
Any help would be appreciated!

When you have those scanned documents in the computer, and choose
Print> Save as PDF> what size file(s) are generated at the page level?
This may reduce files size from that of the original scan, since it would be
using a print alternative to 'save as pdf' instead of printing the file. Since
the system's Preview application as well as Adobe Reader can open the
print> save as pdf> files; you can check to see if this makes smaller pdf.
You could also set the defaults so screen-shot captures are .jpg and then
check their per-page file size to compare the difference. Perhaps one of
these methods could result in a way to send a smaller file of the content.
The .jpegs could be combined in a folder to be sent as a .zip attachment.
I've used OnyX to change the default screen capture to jpg from png; so
all screen shots (command shift 4, or 3) will make jpegs automatically.
There used to be some good freeware tools to change .PDFs, but the
ones I'd tried some years ago are either extinct or cost real money...

Should I reduce picture size for iWeb?

The pictures from my camera typically range in size from about 2 to 5.5 MB. Is there some reason I should reduce the size of the pictures before publishing them?

I assume, from your message, that you feel I'm being lazy. However, that's simply not true. I have no idea how to check these things. I have two web sites--one for my disabled grandson and one for my first grade class. I am a gramma and a first grade teacher. While I do pretty well with my mac, I often need technical help. That's why I am using this forum.
So, if you (or anyone else) is willing to spend a bit of time, here's what I need: I take pictures of the children in my class every day and post them on my classroom website. Their parents love these pictures and wish to download some of them to print. From what I can tell, all the pictures posted on my site are automatically compressed, regardless of the method I used to post them on the page? I did find an option for the pictures to be medium, large, or full size. That would allow good prints after downloading. However, I do not want to set up my web pages in a way that it takes a long time for them to load.
I spoke to someone at school today who thinks that every picture on the web page is greatly compressed, regardless of what size is selected. He is very knowledgeable. If that is the case, there would be no reason not to select the "large" or "full size" selection as it would not slow down the load time. I would appreciate it if someone can confirm this, or explain what will best meet my needs as described above.

Reducing file size for YouTube's 2 gig limits

Using Premiere Pro CS4. I also have the Matrox CompressHD which has its own settings.
I am dealing with YouTube's 2 gig limit and I would like to know which of the settings in the below screen capture I should adjust to help reduce file size.
It's for a Talking Head type video with little action.

Reducing photo size for email

I'm stumped ... how do I reduce the size of photos for e-mail?

If you are using a client supported by iPhoto you simply select the photo(s) and click email - one of the options is JPEG compression and another is photo size
If you are using Apple Mail then you have a second selection available in the lower right hand corner of the mail create window
If you are using a non supported client including a web browser then you must export the photos first reducing them as part of the export process

Reduce file size for web use

I created a website some months ago and I realize now the images are far too large and it takes a second for them to load. So I opened them in photoshop and changed the PPI to around 50, but the file size didn't shrink. I tried 10, and still nothing. I tried Save For Web and the file size got larger. Any ideas on how to keep the image quality (for web) but reduce the file size for easy page loading? Thank you.

Don't worry over the ppi value. That's arbitrary.
You can reduce the pixel count, by resampling. That will make an image smaller in a hurry. To do this, Image - Image Size, check the [ ] Resample Image checkbox, and change the pixel counts. I always set my Photoshop prefs so that I see the Image Size in pixels by default. If yours isn't reading in pixels by default, change the units so that it is.
However, you may need to have your images be a certain size, in pixels, and so resampling isn't an option. In that case, when you do File - Save As - JPEG (or use Save for Web & Devices), adjust the Quality value to get the image to the size you need.

Reduce Form size for display on Mobile device

I am currently working on messaging application in mobile device.My project is 90% completed. When I imported my application into 6680 series mobile device.It works fine.Actually i have loginscreen Form before opening the messaging window.In that loginscreen form i have used Username textbox,password textbox,login button,and some other components like remeber id ,autologin etc.But while displaying,only username textbox and password textbox itself displayed on the current display.remaining are all seen by scrolling down.Actually i want all my components to be displayed on the current display without scrolling.So can anyone tell me your idea for my issue as soon as possible.If it is posssible to reduce the form size means please tell the way to reduce it.

There are two ways...
Either go for a device with a screen size large enough to fit entire form in the visible screen...
Or, ask the device vender to reduce the form size for u in their implementation.
Any one with a better answer ??????

Reducing document size for email

Hi, I am trying to send an email attaching 15 pg doc. It keeps rejecting saying file is too large. Can I put all 15 pgs in 1 attachment (currently 15 attachments) and reduce the size somehow so it goes through?

iPhoto does not work on photos that are not in its database
in iPhoto you can select a photo and click on mail (if you have configured your iPhoto preferences for your mail client) and select actual, large, medium or small as the size to mail - if you are using the mail program there is a similar menu in the lower right hand corner of the compose window
If none of those options work in iPhoto you can export (file menu ==> export) and set the exact pixel dimensions you want - for "good" quality I would want at least 200 dpi so the resulting JPEG would need to be at least 1600 x 2000 and 2400 x 3000 would be better
I certainly would use a JPEG rather than a TIFF to get the best quality relative to the size
TIFFs give a small quality improvement for a large size increase

Reducing kb size for uploading/emails

Hi there,
I have not had my new iMac long and am still getting the hang of using iPhoto and am a bit of a techno dodo at times.
My problem is that I have no idea how to reduce photos in pixel/kb size for uploading onto the web and for emailing to freinds and family.
I have tried using help but not getting very far.
I know there is probably a very easy answer to this, it is just that I have missed it somewhere.

What are you using for E Mail? If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto, and that process allows yo to scale the pics.
If you're using anything else, then select the pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. In the export dialogue you have the opportunity to scale the pics, among other things. Then complete the export to the desktop and upload that copy. After the upload or e mail is finished you can trash the copy on the desktop - your original is safe in iPhoto.

Reduce file size for posting

I am trying to upload some photos to eBay. The original file size ris under 5Mb in Aperture but eBay claims it's too large at over 9Mb (the max apparently is 7Mb).
Rather than bang my head again the wall arguing I'd like to reduce the file size even more to say 2Mb in Aperture but have no idea how to do this. Would changing the pixel vertical and horizontal count be an easier way?
I also have no idea how to do that despite searching Help yet again to no avail. I tried reduce photos, reduce file size, reduce pixels... nothing relevant came up.
Sorry for being such a clutz but I never seem to get anthing from help but you guys always come up with the goods.

You can look at the exported files in the Finder to see the size the size and you can tell if it really is to big or if something else is going on.
So how did you export the images you tried to upload already? What settings did you use? There are a few different ways to control file size and which to use depends on how you plan on using the images.
Assuming you're exporting as JPG you can drop the quality slider down that will definitely bring the file size down but again without knowing how you exported how much over the file really is and how you plan on using them it's difficult to get more specific.
