Reducing colors on a jpg photo

Just curious to know if I can  reduce colors in a photo (jpg), then to change it to a vector drawing in Elements.  I have a new embroidery machine and I would love to digitize some of my photos into embroidery patterns.  The embroidery software I have will change vector art into a stitch pattern that the embroidery machine can read.
I am new to Elements, previously had been using Paint Shop Pro for photo edits.
If this can be done is there a tutorial I can watch?
Thanks,
Sheila

You might ask the person what method they used in photoshop to reduce the colors and there's probably a good chance you can do the same in elements.
As far a vectors your much better off using an application such as illustrator and there are several free vector programs such as Inkscape and Microsoft
Expression (you have to register to download)
30 day trial of adobe illustrator:

inkscape: (windows and mac)

Free edition of expression (known as creature house) (windows only)

  • How do I reduce MB size for jpg photos?

How do I reduce the MB size for a group of photos I took. I want to save these reduced photos and send them to a client.

IF you want to reduce just the file size and not necessarily the dimensional size...
Create an action to "Save for Web", and run a batch using that action.
I'll show it on a Mac but it's the same for Windows.
    1. Open one photo.
    2. In the Actions panel click the menu selector and choose "New Action.
    3. Name the action and click "Record".
    4. Press Alt+Ctrl+Shift+S to Save for Web (Alt+Cmd+Shift+S on Mac).
    5. Select a save destination and then close the file, selecting "Do Not Save" when you do so.
    6. Press the Stop button.
    7. Click File>Automate>Batch.
    8. Choose the parameters for the batch and click "OK"
It'll reduce the file size of the photos you chose.

  • Can't import .jpg photos

I received a group of .jpg photos both by e-mail and on a CD and some of them will not import into iPhoto 09, I get the error message "the file is in an unrecognized format". Some of them import normally. I can open the bad ones in Photoshop and resave them but they still won't import to iPhoto. I can insert them into a slide show on iDVD and they are fine. They open in Preview and they are large, 5552 × 3616 pixels but nothing else looks strange. Any ideas?
    Thanks, Jim Easton

    Terence,
Thank you for this explanation. Like many of the other posters, I have images from a scanner that iPhoto won't import. Your post made me check their color profiles: all are grayscale. Saving them as TIFFs will indeed solve the problem for a lot of people but there is an easier way if you have Photoshop Elements. Open the image, choose Save As, and in the Save dialog uncheck "Embed Color Profile."

  • How can one create a paint color generated from a photo using Kuler?

How can one create a paint color generated from a photo using Kuler?

The best way to remove a pattern is to use a Fast Fourier Transform.  There's a free plugin (as well as examples and instructions) here:
    http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6795661/4N6site/improc/fftplugin/examples.htm
Using the plugin requires editing the individual colour channels, which PSE does not natively allow.  You'll need the reasonably-priced Elements+ addin:
    http://elementsplus.net/
Here's a crop at 100% of the result I got:
The pattern is much reduced.  With some experimenting, you can probably do a little better.

  • How to reduce noise in a RAW photo?

Recently I came across a great article explaining the difference between a JPEG and a RAW file. I usually shoot in JPEG because that was all I was comfortable with. After reading the article I want to start shooting in RAW and be confident in it. I think the biggest thing is reducing the noise in a photo. I have tried playing with Photoshop and Lightroom to figure it out and I haven't been able to. Can someone please help me and tell me how I can reduce the noise if I start shooting in RAW? Any and everything will be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

There isn't much to it. The color slider eliminates colorized noise (defaults to 25) and the luminance slider deals with non colorized noise. The detail sliders determine how much detail you'd like to keep. Add a little sharpening if it needs to be sharper. Play around with the sliders until you get what your looking for. I usually keep the numbers low myself, as I'd rather have the fine detail vs a super clean image with no detail. Depends on the image though. The biggest thing is to realize the compromises and find a happy medium - don't drive yourself crazy by being overly critical.
You'll find the same feature in Photoshop's Camera Raw plugin. It is just like the Develop module of Lightroom.

  • Colors differences between jpg and raw - Lightroom 4.1

    Dear All,
I have a doubt on colors and monitor profile. I am using an imac with monitor calibrated with Spyder pro3 and shoot photos with a Canon 500D (RAW+JPG).
I recently added a cir polarized filter to my camera, and really satisfied of colors I see in the camera screen, and the same colors I see on my imac when I look at jpg files. Unfortunately when I open photos on Lightroom 4.1, colors seems the same while loading the picture (probably reading the jpg) but than suddenly changes when rendering the preview and in develop module. Colors seems less vivid like missing some contrast (in attachment an example of the same file opened with lightroom and apple preview in raw and jpg).
I know that jpg created by camera are different from raw files, but actually never had such a difference in colors with all other photos I shoot before. Is this because of the filter or do I have to set anything in particular in lightroom, such as monitor profile or others?
Thank you for your kind advices, have a nice day,
    dk

  • How do I add a jpg photo into the library

I am trying to animate a layer on top of a background, I've made the background layer the first in the back but when I animate it dissapeers. I can use one of the stock backgrounds from the library and it stays in thebackground while the other gif layers work fine. I want to use my jpg photo as the background, have it remain there while the animated gif runs, any suggestions would be  greatly appreciated.

    Hi Barbra,
I appreciate the help, I tried your idea but I'm probably doing something
wrong I can't seem to get the right sequence, but I'll keep playing with
it. If you go to our site theundertoneband.com you can see I am starting to
get this animating thing a little. I have a question, is there anyway to
make a normal pic into a background like they have in the library, or maybe
add my pic to the library?
    Thanks for all your Help,

  • How to get jpg photo into photoshop as jpg wt LR changes

I can not determine how to get jpg photos from Lightroom into Photoshop CS3 without using the export function. With a raw photo I can simply press "clrl e" and the raw photo is converted into a tif or psd file and sent to photoshop. That is very convenient when you have worked on the photo and wish to make additional adjustments in CS3. When I do the same process with a jpg file, it converts the file from jpg into a tif at a much larger file size then necessary. Is there a way to get a jpg file which I have worked on within Lightroom into CS3 without using the export function? Thanks, Arthur

Lee Jay, I think you are wrong this time (only)!
Arthur, to solve your problem you have to do two things:
    1. In LR open preferences and activate to automatically write changes to XMP. This ensures that your JPG pictures are updated with the LR settings in the XMP container within the jpg file.
2.in PSCS3 open preferences. In the file handling section you will find the option to 'prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files'. If this option is activated also jpg files are processed with ACR.
You asked for a way to get a jpg file into CS3 without using export. Now you have that. After you made your adjustments in LR just open the jpg in CS3 and you will see the photo with all changes you have made. I tested this with LR and CS3 beta myself it it works perfectly.

  • Can I see depth map in a JPG photo taken on the HTC One M8 phone with the duo lens?

Can I open a JPG photo taken on the HTC One M8 phone with the duo lens & see the grey scale depth map? See Depthy.me & StereoPhotoMaker that do it for Google Camera Lens Blur photos.
Can a plug in be created to do it pls?
    Will

Thanks Chris. Depthy.me & Stereo Photomaker both provide free tools to view the depth map data as a grey scale for Google Camera Lens Blur files. However, that needs you to move the camera to capture the parallax data which is impractical for photographing anything that's not still! The HTC dual lens is therefore superior as it's instant.
Once the depthmap is extracted, Stereo Photomaker then produces stereo pairs to view on a 3D TV or produces multi views that can be interlaced in Triaxes 3D Master Kit & printed as glasses free lenticulars.
HTC publish the dual lens SDK so I hope someone can easily write a plugin for Photoshop to read the HTC depth data.

  • Lightroom and GIMP color issue using jpg

    Here is what I do:
Using an iMac (Tiger) and have my monitor calibrated using the built in MacOS tool. The profile is stored in the Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder. In the GIMP settings about color management, I have chosen the monitor profile from above as the monitor profile and the RGB profile.
I have a (Canon) RAW image mainly in a neutral, if not slightly yellowish, tone with some beautiful golden pins. Imported the CR2 into Adobe Lightroom and exported in sRGB color space, the jpg looks like this: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/18039/1283133
Now I would love this with a nice frame, so I did a hi quality export, loaded it into GIMP 2.4.3, added a frame, and saved it as full size jpg. When I look at the resulting jpg in MacOS Preview application, it looks fine and so it does when I upload it to the web: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/18039/1284108
But as I manage all my images in Lightroom, I also want to manage this one in Lightroom, so I imported it. And look what's coming out: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/18039/1284100
    It's all purple!
It looks the same in Lightroom, Preview and uploaded. Purple. What am I doing wrong? Is there any hidden Lightroom setting I have scambled?
When I am saving TIFF from GIMP, Lightroom imports with proper colors.

The third one (reimported into Lightroom) is indeed purplish. Are you using the latest gimp? Versions of gimp before a while ago could not color manage and will probably forget about the profile. It was only recently added. You should have the working space set to sRGB (so not RGB as you wrote above) in the gimp probably for this image. Also, make sure you do NOT save as a progressive jpeg, but only using baseline compression. Lightroom tends to change the color of progressive jpegs. This is probably what is going on.

  • PSE9 Can't create a slideshow with .jpg photo and .mov video

    Hi
I don't find some informations how to make a slideshow where I can use my .jpg photos AND my .mov vidoes - both are coming from my Panasonic Digitalcamera.
I bought PSE9 because everywhere is written that this is the right product to create a slideshow / Diashow... with photos and vidoes.
But if I want use the "Diashow" I get the information that this is only for windows player and all my .mov videos which I can play in the PSE9 are NOT in the Diashow.
Knows everyone how I can come further with my holidayvideo???
    Thanks in advance

guess PRE will work fine for your mov files. ...

  • How can I reduce the size of a photo proportionally.  With my old Mac mini I was able to place the pointer on the bottom right corner  hold the shift key until I achieved the desires size.

How can I reduce the size of a photo PROPORTIONALLY?  With my old Macmini I was able to place the pointer on the bottom right corner of the picture, hold down the shift key and move the pointer to achieve the desired size.

You'll need to use a 3rd party editor like one of these:
Some Image Editors That Support layers:
    Photoshop Elements 11 for Mac - $79
    Rainbow Painter - $30
    Imagerie - $38
    Acorn - $50
    Pixelmator - $60
    Seashore - Free
    Portraits and Prints - Free
    GIMP for Mac - Free
    Xee 2.1 - free
My personal preference would be for Photoshop Elements for Mac. Most of these will let you select and copy a head from one photo, paste it into another photo, resize and place where you need it.
PSE has a specific feature just for that function.  I belive the Adobe site for PSE has a demo video of that feature.
