Reducing faint echo in voice recordings

Have some voice recordings created around ’08 or ’09 that have a faint echo similar to print through, but the last phrase of the speech gets repeated very faintly about a second AFTER the speech stops....
Basically, the last word of the speech is repeated about 500ms into the inter-sentence lull.  Don’t know how the source material was created, but it was in a pro studio, so don’t think its room-reflected echo, believe its digital tape and don’t hear any echo or other processing effect in the audio stream.  Can you get print through on digital?  Any ideas on how these echoes got into the recording?

isn't that why some folks wind analog masters tail-end?
Well sort of - the reason is very much to do with print-through, but it's slightly more complicated than that. What's really at stake is trying to minimise the print-through mechanism itself from working more effectively. It's claimed that by moving the fields apart fast, you can even potentially reverse the effect of print-through - although personally I've seen no real evidence to support this. Moving them fast will certainly increase the immediate field strength for an instant, but on the face of it, this would increase the chances of magnetic interaction, not reduce it; I don't see how a polarity reversal occurs, hence the reason for being a little sceptical.
So the idea is that if you spool the tape before playing it, you end up with less print-through when you actually play it. As I said, I'm not convinced that it makes that much difference, although there are other advantages to the practice, especially with tapes that haven't been well stored. Winding through them first displaces any dust and loose oxide quite effectively, so you reduce the chances of things sticking up. And the chances are that because of tension changes, the tape will end up with different bits sitting on top of each other the more you wind it, so you will at least end up with different print-through!

  • Removing echo from voice over

Hi - we recorded some voice over in a hotel room whilst on the road and it has a pretty bad echo on it. Sounds like we recorded in the bathroom. Does anyone have some suggestions to reducing this echo? any help much appreciated. thanks!
    michael

The echo or reverberation of the room is usually quieter than the direct sound,
so sometimes using an expander or noise gate will help.
If the recording was done in stereo (like the camera's built-in mics, for example),
you can get rid of some of the ambience by mixing left and right together as mono.
    Finally, when shooting, wear headphones.
Do a test shot, play it back and listen.
If the sound is too roomy, move the mic closer to the talent.
    Good luck!

  • Is there a way to view frequency levels in Hz on Adobe Audition 3.0 during voice recordings?

Is there a way to view frequency levels in Hz on Adobe Audition 3.0 during voice recordings so I can ensure the recordings are hitting the specific frequency range I desire?

The frequency analyser pane can run in real time and show you this, but with a voice, there's no way you can alter the effective range anyway - it's almost entirely dependent on the voice you are recording, and they all fall pretty much into the same bands - depending on whether you're male or female.

    Thanks, Mellanni x

If it will not connect to your computer, and it will not connect to the Internet, either via WiFi or cellular data, then there is no practical way to extract the information. There are no magic words that will fix the broken hardware.
You could try a 3rd party data recovery service, but doing so will forfeit your right to a discounted out of warranty replacement. Only you can decide it it's worth that.

  • How do you get your tunes and voice recordings from your iPod Touch into iTunes on a new computer if you don't have Mobile Me?

How do you get your tunes and voice recordings from your iPod Touch into iTunes on a new computer if you don't have Mobile Me?
iTunes on tmy new computer shows none of my data and I fear if I sync my iPod with the computer all will be deleted on the iPod.
I still have everything in iTunes on the old computer.

Just move your iTunes library to you new computer.  You can transfer iTunes purchases to you new computer from your iPod by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848Make sure you also move the backup.  You an find where the the backup is located here:
iPhone and iPod touch: About backups
You can move other items by:
    Best iPod to PC
After you move you stuff to the new computer, restore the iPod from backup.

  • How do I save voice recordings to my phone sent to me via text messaging?

Welcome, glad that answered your issue.

  • Audio files and voice recordings have no sound in iMovie after a while, help?

I was editing and I was putting audio files and recording my voice fine then all of a sudden, audio files and voice recordings I were adding had no sound. The ones already put on had sound but when I tried to drag more audio files or record my voice, nothing. No sound. I tried restarting my Mac, didn't work. I changed the MP3 name to AIFF, didn't work. I'm using iMovie '11.

Hi PK - welcome to the forum!
Increasingly, people with digital still cameras want to import their short movie clips created with that camera. BUT the catch is that these movies are NOT in .dv format. They are MPEGs, and if they are MPEG1 or MPEG2 then they must be converted to DV before they will import into iMovie with the audio able to play.
This conversion usually can be done with a free app. called MPEG StreamClip, but may also need another piece of software called the Apple MPEG2 Playback Component (which costs about $20)..
A search in this forum for those, will give you several threads on the issue!
Look here, for example, for more about the method required:
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/%7Eshmhav/SVCDon_a_Macintosh.html#edit_convertMPEG
NOTE that iMovie was designed for DV use (a high-quality editing format), not the much lower quality MPEG footage.

  • Zen Nano Plus static on voice recordings while driv

I have a Zen Nano Plus GB and I'm pleased with the quality of the voice recorder in general.
However, all voice recordings I've made inside an automobile traveling over 55 MPH contain a lot of very loud static interference noises. I was hoping to create most of my voice memos while driving, but the recordings I've made while driving (in two different cars) are unusable because of this frequent static sound. I've tried holding the device in different positions (near the window, away from the steering column, above my head, etc.) and it does not seem to help. This does not happen in any other situation.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Then what is the point of recording FM if you can't even save it's I'm just going to have to convert it the old fashioned way, but before I do, I want to note that the SOLE reason I got the Zen Nano Plus is because I wanted to record an event off FM. No, there is no prohibited copyright stuff on this, it's all meant to be recorded. I really wish this would be worth the money, but it seems that I am going to have to get another MPIO. Easier to use and fewer nuisances.
    The shame...

  • I have voice recordings I want to download or transfer to my computer, how?

I want to save my recent voice recordings on my computer, itunes, somewhere.
If I select sync all music it says it will delete everything on my phone and replace with what's on the itunes... yikes, I'd just simply like to add my recent recordings to my existing voice memos playlist and library.

As tgarra suggests, place a √ next to Include voice memos.
    Connect your phone (obviously).
In iTunes, select your phone in the Source Panel (on Left),
then select the Music tab at the top of the iTunes pane.
    Good luck, Tom
Oh, yes - √ Sync Music

  • 3 4s's echo my voice on a call on the handset alone.  Any fixes yet?

I have 3 4s's  and a 4 that all echo my voice on a call on the handset alone.  The fact that the 4 did not do it before iOS 5 leads me to think its a software issue.  Any fixes yet?

Please could someone help with my query.
This morning I didn't realise my children had been playing with the phone, after taking them to school and returning 3 hours later I discovered that the phone was off the hook and still connected to a call. The call had been made to my parents who I know are away and have the 1571 service.
The call had been connected for over 3 hours and was still counting the minutes on the handset, can anyone tell me if this call would have been automatically been cut after a certain amount of time ?
I checked my bill online and there is no record yet of the call.
Ive tried to phone BT this morning to enquire about this but unable to speak to an advisor without been sent around the call answering system.
I am a BT anytime user so the first hour of the call shouldn't be charged but I am worried if further charges will be incurred or if there will be a 3 hour long message on my parents 1571 service.
Many Thanks in advance for any help or pointers - anything will be appreciated.
    Little C
A phone call to 1571 is chargeable like any other call. The 1571 service only has a finite storage capacity so it's possible that it cut off earlier than the 3 hours but any time the call was connceted will be charged for.

  • Save Voice Recordings

I have some voice recordings on my phone that I want to permanently save to my computer and be able to delete them off my phone.  Is there a way to do that?  For example, how do I save them to the hard drive on my computer and take them off of iTunes?  The files are HUGE so they take up way too much space on my phone.  Thanks!

Thought I'd give a little more information.  I'm a returning student and would like to record class and lectures on iphone 4 to be used in iBooks (since voice to text, even with the new release of dragon, may be to buggy with the variances of many voices to train).  So voice recorder to iBooks seems best.  I'm going to give it a trial test tomorrow.  Any other suggestions for such a task would be considered.  Ideally voice to text in ibooks, secondarily voice to ibooks.  Really don't know what is possible (did I need to state that, ha?), so I'm sourcing the community for input.  Thanks.

  • Voice recordings from the Voice of Russia for my 93 y.o. mom

Trying to save voice recordings from the Voice of Russia for my 93 y.o. mom. I have to be able to burn them to a cd for her radio as she does not have a computer. On the page you choose Lesson 2 and a wma begins to open in Real Player but I do not have an option to save. I loaded Real thinking it would save the file after Quicktime tried to convince me it would save it if I'd only buy the Pro version.
    http://english.ruvr.ru/2007/01/23/118516.html

Well in some countries it's illegal to record phone sessions without informing the person that you are - that's why most businesses have a disclaimer saying that they may record the conversation before you actually get to speak to anyone.
I would double check the local laws before setting anything up that auto-records your Skype Conversations, perhaps if you asked the person who rang if it was ok to record your call for later use and reference (ie I'm a web designer and could use that phone call recording to make notes from and reference in the future regarding design elements etc).
I would find something like that insanely handy, but I don't think I'd dare do it!
