Reducing iPhone photo size

I think the photos from my iPhone are far too large and my iPhoto library is bloated. On a SSD MacBook Air the HDD soon fills up.
I use iPhoto Library Manager but is there a way to reduce the size of photos taken on my iPhone 5?
Or an Applescript which will reduce size when/after importing?

When you email a photo, just before the email is sent, you will be asked if you want to reduce the size...

  • Reducing original photo size for msg board posting, etc

    Hello,
I've got to think this has been asked/answered in the past, but I'm not finding an answer using Search so far, so please forgive me if this is a re-hash...
Is there an easy way to reduce the original size (both viewed L&W, and also file size itself) of a photo so that it's compliant to post in message boards?
I realize both iPhoto and Mail have features that do such a thing for email very nicely, but I was wondering if there's a way to do something similar using iPhoto or Preview to just "slim down" an original photo file to be more web-posting friendly...
Thanks in advance for any insights!
    Cheers, Chris

EDIT: TD, should've hooked you up first with a 10-point "solved"; I thought I could do both Helpful and Solved, but now I don't think I can change it (?). Nuts; sorry about that. Thanks again!

  • IPhone photo size

Photos taken with my iPhone are saved as .jpg files and tend to be 1-1/2 to 2 mb in size. This sometimes creates  problems e-mailing them so I'm looking for a way to reduce the size.

  • Itunes - iphone photo size redcution

When I sync my photos back to my iPhone 4S (iOS6) they are being reduced in image and file size, which has an impact if I want to retouch pictures at a later stage (not from camera roll). Does anyone know how I can avoid this, if at all? The files will be reduced by about 50%...
    Thanks!

  • Reduce photo size

I have tried following all the possibilities for reducing a photo size for email.
I do not get any options for reducing the photo size when I attach a photo in an email, I get no pop up boxes or choice to reduce the picture size.
    Any clues please

if i get the question right - you have phtos on your pad, and want to up[load them to somewhere, but they are too big.  if that is the case, here is a workaround - until somebody smarter comes through with the right solution.
Mail the photo to yourself.  I just mailed a photo that was in i photo at 4.1 meg to myself.  When it arrived, it was 104 k.
If you mail it from the camera roll it will also reduce size.  you can then save that new image, and upload it.

  • Photo Sizes in iPhoto

When I import directly from my digital camera, the photos are "manageable" in size - about 1.0MB. However, I just imported photos from a professional photographer for an event and each photo is 4.0MB or larger. I want to upload some of these to a website, but they need to be under 0.8MB.....Can I set iPhoto a size dimension to import at a max size?  Also, how can I reduce the photo size of the ones I just imported to a manageable size?

Select the photo(s) and export (file menu ==> Export) using the custom size option to set the maximum pixel dimension you want

  • Does photo size reduction for e-mailing degrade photos?

In using iPhoto to send photos by e-mail one has the option of reducing the size of these photos from actual size to small, medium, or large size in order to transmit them more quickly, but what effect does this size reduction have on the quality of the photos?
I suspect that the size reduction degrades the images, but I have not been able to obtain any sort of definitive information on this subject, even when I contacted Apple tech help. Is there some knowledgeable person on board who can give us the story on this issue?
I like the idea of transmitting photos as fast as possible, but not if it means degrading the images by reducing their size to speed up the e-mail process.

    Smtr,
Thanks for your helpful reply. I wasn’t concerned about the original photo retained in my library, but only about the reduced-size copy transmitted by e-mail.
I’m amazed at how much one can reduce the photo size for transmitting by e-mail. I just randomly selected a 3.3 MB JPEG image which can be squeezed down to only 63 KB by selecting the Small size in the Mail Photo window. I calculate that the reduced size photo would be only 1/52 the size of the original. I assume that the 63 KB image would be a very poor candidate for producing a print! I also assume that the 63 KB image, when viewed by the recipient on his monitor, would be a lot smaller than it would be if I sent him a copy at Actual Size.
Suppose the the recipient’s e-mail system could not handle the Actual Size 3.3 MB photo, so I send him a Large copy (414 KB) or a Medium copy (122 KB). Would either of those reduced-size photos produce a decent print as small as 4 X 6? I am trying to get a feel for how far I could squeeze down the size of one of my photos for e-mail transmittal before it becomes unsuitable for producing even a small print.
    Comments?

  • Iphone app to take photos with reduced resolution or size

is there an iphone app to take photos with reduced resolution or size(I mean when taking the photo, not modifying after)?

Not that I know of,  that would be a iOS hack.

  • I cannot figure out how to change the photo size on my iPhone 5s.  I was given the choice of small, medium or large the first time I took a picture.  Now I have no idea how to change it to medium.  Can anyone help?

I cannot figure out how to change the photo size on my iPhone 5s.  The first time I took a pic it asked if I wanted smalll,  medium or large and listed the pixels.  I chose small but am now finding that is too small.  Can anyone help me set it to medium now?  I can't find any setting for that.  I'm a newby to iPhones and have no idea what I'm doing.  Thanks for any help you can offer.

By "sending" do you mean sending email?
If so, what app are you using to take the photos on your iPhone 5? Or are the photos from a different source (saved to your Camera Roll from somewhere else, like a web page or Messages)?
My guess is that Mail gives you the option to send different file sizes when it detects you are trying to Mail a really large photo file. The size of photos on the iPhone 5 is really big and some email providers may stop your mail from being delivered if attachments are too large. Thus, Mail tries to help you by offering to resize the photo.
I suspect that if you are sending smaller files, Mail does not bother giving you options to save a smaller version. In fact, I have seen this behavior. So, if the photo is already "small enough", it gets sent as-is.
To my  knowledge, there is no global iOS setting for this. Some apps may have different rules, of course.

picture size...in putting together a book I can move photos onto a page and enlarge the picture but is there a way to reduce the picture size? some cases I want a smaller picture and if I change the size of the picture box I only get a portion of the image. I want to reduce the image to fit the size of the box.

    If you right click on the image on the page in the context menu select photo box alignment and then select one of scale to fit {centered, Left-aligned, Right-aligned}
That should do what you are loking for.

  • Is there a way to reduce the pixel size of multiple photos in a slideshow?

I have a Windows 7 computer and use Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9.  I recently completed a slideshow that contains about 360 photos, many or all of which exceed the maximum size of 1000 x 750 pixels.  Is there any way that I can easily reduce the pixel size of each of the photos?  If upgrading to the most recent versions of Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements would help me accomplish this I would be willing to do this.  Thanks very much in advance for any advice or suggestions.

You can batch process your images to re-size them in the editor using the menu:
    File >> Process Multiple Files
Place your chosen photos in a separate folder and then choose a separate destination folder; so as not to overwrite the originals.

  • Retouch photo without reducing the file size/quality?

I have been retouching some pictures for use in a photo book but notice that each time I do so, the file size decreases fairly significantly e.g from 4MP to 2MP.
Is there a way I do minor retouching to a photo without reducing the file size/quality?
    Thanks in advance

Where are you seeing this size reduction? What format are the original photos?
For example when you edit a RAW photos you create a JPEG modified version which is much smaller - one I just did went from 17 MB as RAW to 4.4 as a JPEG  --  you could save as a TIFF but to me that is not worth the space loss - I seriously doubt that you will ever do anything that you can see the difference in quality between a TIFF and JPEG of yoru images

  • Reducing photo size/resolution

    Hello!
Trying to print tiny versions of much larger photos on a cv. How can I reduce the image size, dpi, resolution etc, to make the photo file small enough to print without causing problems? Should I try to export it to a web page to create a thumbnail image and try to re-import that?
    Any help much appreciated!
    Cheers,\Tony

Select the pic in the iPhoto Window and go Share -> Export. In the resulting window you'll get the option to resize.
