Reducing tabs in the interaction widgets in captivate 6

Hi can someone tell me how to reduce the number of tabs in the interaction widgets. I am always presented with 4 with an option to increase when what I want to do is remove one or two of the buttons instead. Can someone please help as this is limiting the usefulness  of these interactions for me. Thanks.

With the exception of the Process circle, for Accordion, Tabs... you can delete a label: go in edit mode for that label (double-clicking) and you'll get a big minus sign next to it that will allow to remove:

  • Localize interaction widgets in captivate 6

I'm using an English installation of Cp6 and would like to incorporate some of the standard captivate interaction widgets into lessons for high school students. However these lessons will have to be fully in Dutch and all of the widget parts need to be localized. The foremost parts (strings) can be edited into the right language from the design mode. But there are still some parts that can not be changed; for example in the word search interaction (see picture). Since the fla sources are not available to me these strings can not be changed. My question now is if I obtain a license for the Dutch version of Cp6 will i also get a fully translated set of interaction widgets? Or are there other work arounds I could use?
    TIA for any answer!

There is no Dutch version of Captivate and localisation has never been considered very important IMO. Have been complaining already a lot about that. There are no Dutch TTS, translation of the TOC is cumbersome and translating those interactions is not possible. Please, add your voice to me and other international users (Dutch is also my native tongue) by entering feature requests. Only the requests that do get a lot of support will make it in future versions.

My workaround is to add instructions in Dutch, either with a previous slide, or with a text caption or using Voice Over

  • Photos in the interactive widgets act strange on the iPad

I put photographs into the "interactive image".
When I preview them they will zoom a bit until I remove my fingers then they revert to original size.
In addition they will rotate 360 degrees and I want the to be stationary horizontal.
    Thank you.

It's about the default navigation that an .ibook file, which is a hybrid epub from Apple, provides versus a standard epub.
If you create a standard epub document and use it with iBooks, there are different navigation features available, including pinch-zoom and page turn animation. Standard epubs work on both iPhone/touch and iPad as well.
Apple's Pages will create a standard epub, also InDesign. And don't forget that making an app opens up another level of tools and abilities for authors

  • Is it possible to make the top tab in the accordion widget remain open constantly?

I'm looking to use the accordion widget as a secondary navigation in my site's sub pages. I've noticed other websites doing this successfully and one site inparticular has their top accordion panel always open.
This allows them to have their three main calls to action always accessible for the visitors to select.
I've tried implementing this but it doesn't seem to be possible?
Is there any way to access the code for the widget to see if I can tweak this to work?

hello, you can set "about:newtab" as your homepage:

  • Captions in Interactive Widget not displaying fully on the iPad in preview

    Hi
I am using the Interactive Widget with overplay captions. They appear fine in iBook but only show the first 2 lines of copy on the iPad?
Any tips on how to tweak this to work the same on the ipad?
    Thanks!

    Found the answer:
Tip:   If your labels are longer than a few lines, you can select “Show descriptions in sidebar” in the Widgetinspector to display them in an overlay on the widget’s left side.

  • How can you adjust vertical photos in the interactive image widget?

It appears that adding a vertical image to the Interactive Widget automatically crops the top half of the image and won't let you adjust the default view.
Anyone else having this? Solving this?

Same problem. I cannot move the default position of the image. If you hide the Title, then at least the full image is visible, but it cannot moved and it is aligned to the top of the image area.

  • Default settings in Interaction Widgets

Does anyone know of a way to remove a button from an Interaction widget in Captivate 6? This is a fantastic new feature but there seems to be no way to edit a default setting with respect to the number of button tabs. Buttons can be added but not removed, and that's it??

Sorry, never mind. I found it. Once again, Adobe makes things so obvious. For anyone searching, click on Tab and a will appear to the left. Click it and voila, the Tab dissappears.

  • Customize look of Interaction widgets

Is there a way to customize the new Interaction widgets in Captivate 7? Our client doesn't like blue but all the widgets have a blue style.

I don't know which Interaction you are using but have you cursored down under themes after selecting one? There are several different colors. There is also a custom button for changing some things.

  • How do I stream Vimeo videos with the YouTube widget?

I am having trouble streaming a Vimeo video with the YouTube widget in Captivate 7. The Vimeo video is: http://vimeo.com/24270413#at=0
When I test it in Captivate it comes up with an error message. Does the Vimeo address need to be amended in any way to work with the YouTube widget?
I have no problem with YouTube videos but Vimeo is causing me problems.
    Thanks

I think you will have the same problem, i've tried to insert vimeo videos as well using the Web Object interaction in Captivate and they don't load...

  • How Can I Remove Tabs That I Added in a Learning Interaction Widget?

Hello, I inserted a "Tabs" Learning Interaction widget into a Captivate 8 project I'm working on.  Adding tabs is easy enough by simply hitting the plus button.  But when I want to remove a tab, I can't for the life of me determine how.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks

When you double-click on a Tab button in the Interaction Properties, you'll see a minus sign that will allow you to delete that tab. Beware: you need a minimum of at least 2 tabs, maximum is 5 tabs.

  • Captivate 8.0 interaction widget pictures are distorted

All images get distorted when adding them to any interaction widgets (even when I upload them in 100X150 in size).
(BTW: I'm currently using the subscription version.)

Just logged it as a bug, I know the size by heart and with your help discovered that in the latest version of the learning interactions the indication is (again) wrong: both need a image that is a square. It doesn't have to be precisely 150x150 but must have a width/height ratio of 1/1.
I know that in the first release of those interactions, a similar faulty indication appeared for the Timeline interaction, was corrected in a patch. Now it is wrong both in Tabs and Timeline. Only the Accordion interaction needs a 1.5/1 for Width/Height. Sorry about that, I am just a user...

  • Adobe Captivate 6 - Interactive Widgets and Resume Playing Timeline?!

Hello! I am using Adobe Captivate 6 to work on several training projects and the slides where I have inserted interactive widgets (such as accordion theme), along with the normal text to speech and timed text boxes, when I go to publish in either html or swf those particular slides pause the whole presentation/training. Unlike the other slides that continue/play the timeline when entered these particular slides (with interactive widgets) do not do the same and pause the presentation (you have to press the play button on the menu bar to continue with narrative and I'm trying to have it play automatically). Does anyone know how I may go about having these particular slides not pause the presentation and continue playing the timeline. I've exhausted all measures and need help. Thank you.

In Captivate 6, all learning interactions (accordions is not an interactive
widget at all) were pausing the slide at the first frame, sorry. That has
changed later. In 7 and present version, most learning interactions do not pause at all (with the exception of some games), you have to pause yourself to allow time for the interaction.
Have some workarounds, but none for what you want. Keep the interactions on a separate slide is the only recommendation I can offer.
As for my first remark about Accordions not being an interactive widget, last night I tried to explain some concepts of the interactions to another user in this thread: Tracking Learning Interactions

I would like to embed interactive widgets in iBooks using iBookAuthor. The widgets in question started life in Java but GWT has allowed them to be converted to javascript and to run on web pages (for example, http://softoption.us/content/node/437 scroll to the bottom). In theory, iBookAuthor can bring in most html5, and much javascript. The technique is to wrap the html in a folder, with 2 extra files, a plist and a default png and then change the extension of the folder to ‘.wdgt’. This is the technique for making Dashboard widgets for the Mac, and Apple even have the Dashcode software to do it. So what you really do is to make a Dashboard widget, then iBookAuthor can import it.  So far, so good. And some  folk have been doing this, for example http://www.prweb.com/releases/2012/2/prweb9242432.htm http://www.panophoto.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=10417&p=158330#p158423 However, if you start with GWT and create a single page with one button and a Hello World, compile it, and get the WAR file (I use Eclipse here)… the Safari browser and others will run it properly (even on an iPad). Then if you wrap it, a proper Dashboard widget is created, which runs properly on a Mac. Then if you go to iBookAuthor and put a custom widget in the Text, then drag it in. It is accepted by the text and shown as being there. However, if you use Preview to look at it on an iPad, it is gone (or was never there in the first place). Anyone any ideas on this? [And iBook Author seems to give no warnings.] The widget is at https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46713473/Test6.wdgt.zip I have bells and whistles that I’d like to get into an iBook!
    Thanks for any insights.

I do have a little to add, which might help someone. Indeed, opening a blank page and dragging the widget straight in seems good in difficult cases. But, actually, I was also able to insert successfully from the Toolbar especially to blank pages. So, it may have been something to do with the columns and stuff like that. Anyway back then the insertion would show in iBooks Author but not in the Preview on the iPad. I moved on to actual Google Web Toolkit output javascript. Basically I had three at hand to try: a Hello World with a button which went straight it, one of moderate complexity, (for example with a built in Lisp interpreter), which also went straight in, and finally a more complex one that initially was rejected by iBook Author. Author complained that there was an unsupported media file (of course, Author does not tell you which one it is, that would be too easy). [Remember, this was a proper working Dashboard widget which could be installed on a Mac]. Among other things I had read remarks about .gif files. When looking through the GWT war directory at the actual javascript etc files, I noticed there were two gifs there one called ‘clear.cache.gif ‘  and a second one called  ‘0F89659FF3F324AE4116F700257E32BD.cache.gif’. (Now, there is obfuscation so the numbers here may be different from case to case.) The clear.cache.gif did not seem to be anything special. But the other one is an animation. It is three little boxes that twinkle (rather like a waiting spinning cursor).  So, I opened that file and saved it to itself (that picks the top frame of the animation and saves only that, leaving you with an unanimated gif). The resulting widget drags and drops into iBooks Author (and seems to work properly at a quick glance). So, if you are having trouble with ‘unsupported media files’ converting animated gifs into unanimated gifs might help in some cases.

Thanx for the prompt response, KT. I have indeed seen that thread, only just after I posted the question.
I have spent hours on the phone with what I now know is a call center in Texas on this question.
I think Apple could be a little more "hands on" with iBooks Author users, and it should also be pointed out that landscape photos will not display in portrait mode.
In my case, I used gallery widgets to display vertical photos, since they look better in portrait mode.
But instead of simply rotating, the page disappears and a TOC of interactive media appears. The gallery behaves as expected when tapped. This is not what I expected, but since the gallery works, I can live with it.
Right now I have "tickets" telling me to "fix" this "problem or to disable portrait mode.
I don't want to disable portrait mode.
Will Apple accept the books if I tell them this is not an "error?"

  • How do i remove the authorized signature from a certificate widget on captivate 8?

Does anyone know how to remove the authorized signature from a certificate widget on captivate 8?
    or
How to build my own widget to include quiz results/score and print widget?

Strange workaround, but just checked it and it works (even for responsive project): you can drag the Signature, I dragged it as far out as possible (to the bottom) and when previewing the Certificate it was gone.
Do you need a widget? It is not that easy if you need it both for SWF and HTML output because I'm aware at this moment of only very few widgets available on the market. You can create a slide with all you need, using the quizzing system variables and a button with a JS to print?
