Reductions in InDesign for a pdf using decimals?

Is there a way to achieve a percentage for a reduction using the print screen in InDesign so we can make a 93.5% reduction for a pdf? It will only let me use whole numbers. I know we can use Prinergy software to run the pdf thru to achieve this, but can this be done another way using Indesign?

Print > Setup > Options > Scale lets me input two digits after the decimal point (like 93.38%). What version of Indesign are you using?

  • Embedding video in InDesign for a PDF output

    I've been trying to embed videos in InDesign to output them as a PDF with video.
    I've followed the tutorials but the final PDF has only the poster frames — they won't play.
    One thing I have noticed is that the tutorials say to choose "Object>Interactive>Movie Options.
    When I open the Interactive menu, no such options appear; only references to buttons. I have tried it in different workspaces: Interactive, Advanced, and Interactive For PDF. Same result in all of them.
    I have the latest Indesign and Quicktime.  I have tried embedding both H.264 and flash videos. Same result for all.  I also tried exporting as "Interactive PDF" which is worse — even the poster frames don't appear.
    What am I missing?

    You need to export as PDF (Interactive) and you also need to view the PDF in Reader or Acrobat 9 or later.

  • How do I make a Full screen button in inDesign for interactive PDF?

    I posted this question in the inDesign forum and someone told me to post it in the Acrobat forums.
    I would like to make a button in inDesign to give users the option to view a PDF at Full Screen. Much like the button the inDesign Magazine PDFs have.
    Thank you for any help!
    Best,
    John

    How do I add a Acrobat button to my inDesign button? I created a button in inDesign with a rollover feature and I want to preserve this feature in Acrobat. Can I apply some type of "invisble" button in Acrobat with a Acrobat JavaScript action?
    Thank you!

  • Creating interactive elements for a PDF using CS5

    I created some interactive elements in a CS4 document and ticked 'Interactive elements' in the options box on the PDF General dialog box, and the buttons do what they should when the resulting PDF. But when I try to create a PDF with this file in CS5, the buttons aren't working. Is there another setting I am missing? The Interactive Elements option is set to 'Include appearance'.

    You will need to make an Interactive PDF.
    Some wise guys at adobe decided to separate PRINT and INTERACTIVE pdf settings.
    Choose File>Export and select PDF (interactive)

  • Best Practices for creating PDFs using PLPDF?

    Does anyone have any suggestions for Best Practices in making PDF files using PLPDF?
    I have been using it for about a month now, and the best that I have come up with is to use MS Access to prototype the layout of a report. Once I have all the graphics areas and text areas lined up how I would want them, I then write PLSQL code to create a procedure which is called from an HTMLDB page. MS Access is handy in that it provides the XY coordinates for each text area and graphics area. It also provides the dimensions of the respective cells. So long as I call plpdf.Init('P', 'in', 'letter') at the beginning of the procedure, both my MS Access prototype and my plpdf code are both using inches - this makes the translation relatively easy.
    Has anybody found anything else easier/better?
    Regards,

    You can make it happen by creating a private connection for 40 users by capi script and when creating portlet select 2nd option in Users Logged in section. In this the portlet uses there own private connection every time user logs in.
    So that it won't ask for password.
    Another thing is there is an option of entering password or not in ASC in discoverer section, if your version 10.1.2.2. Let me know if you need more information

  • Installed Acrobat Pro 9 - requires password to open any PDF & botches InDesign exports to PDF

    Installed CS4 on my new Mac, using the downloaded installation file. Everything works except Acrobat. I uninstalled Acrobat & reinstalled it. Same problems remain:
    1a. Everytime I open a PDF, I get this message:  "Adobe Acrobat Pro wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this." I have to enter the username & password for my computer to open every PDF. Then they open correctly.
    1b. If I open Acrobat from the Applications folder, without opening a file, I get the same message & must enter username & password to open Acrobat.
    2. From InDesign, I export PDFs using File > Export. The PDFs have little rectangles for about half the text in the entire document. I routinely export both hi-res (Print Quality) and lo-res (Smallest File Size) PDFs in InDesign & this happens with all of them.
    Most of the work I do results in PDFs. None of them have password protection or other security. I don't see anything in Preferences that looks like it would relate to these issues. Help, please!

    Go the the Applications -> Utilities folder. In there you will find the Disk Utility app. When you run that application, you can select your hard drive. Then click on the Fix Permssions button.

  • Adobe reader does not work, what is best for viewing pdfs?

    While using Safari, I keep encountering a message that in order to view a .pdf, I need to download Adobe Reader, accept the end user agreement, then relaunch.  I have tried to do this many times and keep getting the above message. What program is best for viewing pdfs using Safari on an iMac

    Back up all data.
    If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
    Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
    The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Get PDF using FileDownload UI

    Hi,
    Any pointers to documentation which shows step by step creation of a WD application, for downloading PDF using the FileDownload UI.
    I have a WD application which calls a BAPI. This BAPI returns one parameter (BIN_FILE) which is of type XSTRING. This paramter contains the PDF content. I need to use this to be downloaded to a pdf.
    Can anyone guide me how to do it. I used the recent posts for this but seems to loose track somewhere.
    Regards
    Puneet

    Hi
    create a context element of type binary for example FileDownload.
    In doInit() metod:
       IWDAttributeInfo attInfo = wdContext.getNodeInfo().getAttribute("FileDownload");
       IWDModifiableBinaryType binaryType;
       binaryType = (IWDModifiableBinaryType) attInfo.getModifiableSimpleType();
       binaryType.setFileName("test.pdf");
       binaryType.setMimeType(WDWebResourceType.pdf);
    you xstring is for example "file"
    try
         int length =(int)file.length();
         byte b[] = new byte[length];
         b = file.getBytes();
         wdContext.currentContextElement().setFileDownload(b);

  • How to export book pdf using custom presets for all book files in indesign using javascript

    How to export book pdf using custom presets for all book files in indesign using javascript.

    Hi jackkistens,
    Try the below js code.
    Note: you can change your preset name in below (e.g, Your preset name).
    var myBook = app.activeBook;
    myBook.exportFile(ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, File (myBook.filePath+"/"+myBook.name.replace(/\.indb/g, ".pdf")), false, "Your preset name", myBook.bookContents, "Book_PDF", false);

  • How do I use an Edge Animate project with SVG files in InDesign for DPS output?

    Is there any way to include an Edge Animate web content using .svg files in InDesign for output to DPS?
    Edge Animate works great with InDesign, except for when you're using SVG files. I've worked with SVG files on the web successfully (writing .htaccess files and such), but it seems like InDesign doesn't like them.
    This is pretty important because I don't want to have to design multiple renditions on the DPS suite. Currently I have it setup as a PDF format (DPS) and that scales all of the vector-based type perfectly. It would be wonderful if the animations could also be in a vector format so that when the iPad (3) users see the designs, they will scale naturally through the PDF framework.
    Any advice would be invaluable.
    Thanks!

    moved to the DPS forum....

  • Why is Merge into single pdf using InDesign CS3 and not CS4 ?

    I'm new to this so the question may be trivial, but it beats me:
    I've created some InDesign files in CS4 and want to combine them into one PDF. So I opened Acrobat 9 Pro and
    navigated to "Merge files into single pdf". I chose the CS4 InDesign files to Add and clicked the Combine Files button.
    BUT, this starts up InDesign CS3 and not InDesign CS4 and returns a pop-up saying "unidentified error".
    Why is starting CS3 InDesign and not CS4, and what is the "unidentified" error ! ?
    As background I intially installed CS3 and then updated to CS4, leaving the CS3 applications intact. When I initially
    bought CS3, just before CS4 was released I may have created pdfs from InDesign as an experiment, but it is possible I have not done this
    since upgrading to CS4.
    Thanks for any help

    Thanks Michael, I was not aware of quality issues. Actually this is not really significant for my usage this time. What I'm doing is just using ID to capture notes/images/links etc in several free format ID documents. I then planned to merge them quickly into one pdf using Acrobat. I can easily shuffle the file order around to create a handy portable pdf reference document with the Merge feature.
    Doing something similar from ID seemed to me to require me to create pdfs for each ID doc and them to merge them in Acrobat. I did start to write a simple script to do this in ID, but I then realised that I wanted the ordering to vary and the ID files would likely to change. Then I found the merge and bingo, that solved it..... Well it solved it on another CS4 installation that had never seen CS3, but not on my machine which had been upgraded from CS3.
    I tried looking in the registry for obvious entries that might point Acrobat to use ID CS3 rather than CS4, but couldn't spot anything. I wonder if there is something buried in there ?
    Thanks again for helping
    Regards.

  • InDesign CS4 unable to use Mac OS X PDF services

    I'm trying to print a booklet PDF from InDesign CS4 (6.0.4) running Mac OS X 10.6.1. The PDF Services menu is unusable.
    The problem seems to not lie with the Adobe provided Automator action. The action successfully executes in all other apps.
    Rather, the problem seems to lie with a more general inability to properly access PDF services from within InDesign.  When trying to 'Save as PDF' from the PDF Services dropdown (in the 'Printer…' dialog within the standard 'Print' dialog), a Save dialog is opened, but upon saving, no PDF is created. When 'Save as Adobe PDF' is selected, the 'Printer…' dialog closes without indication of any errors.
    Again, I'm able to save both PDF's and Adobe PDF's in all other apps. I really need this functionality for booklets.

    Thanks for the response.  I'm not using the 'Export' function because I need to create a booklet, and 'Export' won't create the proper spreads.
    I'm not sure this is a matter of Acrobat functionality per se.  After all, the problem here seems to be with the hand-off between InDesign and the PDF Services native to the OS.

  • PDFs from InDesign for print then web?

    The workflow is supposed to be: we simply take the PDF files which were created from InDesign and then sent to our printer, and give them to our web service company who has our online edition finished by morning. But we're upgrading our photo processing for the print edition, which results in overly bright photos for printing on newsprint. With a 48 page tiny-town newspaper, it would be a major problem to replace all of the photos in the layout with specially processed ones for web. But we need to have PDFs for our web service company that contain, richer, higher contrast photos for web.
    Is there some trick other than manually processing new photos for every page and manually re-linking each one on every page? Maybe CS4 has some feature that makes this easy, i.e., automated web version of an InDesign layout, i.e., links to an alternate folder of photos just for a web version?
    CS2 / Mac OS 10.4.11 / various Mac hardware

    RGB-workflow is just a way to do things... You can do it in at least CS2, CS3 and CS4 softwares, propably with earlier versions too. It basically means that you adjust your images in some wide RGB gamut, like AdobeRGB, then save them without making CMYK conversion and place them to indesign layout as RGB images. When you export your PDF, you make that RGB-CMYK conversion to all images at once.
    Normally people can use same adjustments for both web- and print images. When image is adjusted well, icc-profile that will be used for RGB-CMYK converion will take care of fine tuning like compensating midtones and Total Ink Limits...
    In InDesign CS4 you can use Photoshop PSD images with adjustment layers. If you really have to make some adjustment that would be nice to get rid off in indesign, you may toggle visibility of those adjustment layers in InDesigns Object Layer Options tool.
    I still suggest that you try to fix your workflow so that you don´t have to make any extra adjustments to images for printing after you have once placed them to indesign layout. It should be possible, millions of publishers do that every day...

  • Generating a pdf using InDesign CS4

    Hi there
    I am having problems generating a pdf using version CS4 - I have done this hundreds of times but on this occasion after selecting the preset I want, the file begins to generate / export and once the last page is reached - I get the message Adobe InDesign CS4 has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly  and so no saved pdf !
    I tried doing the same thing using InDesign CS3 version at home and alas this works!
    I have tried exporting the file to a Interchange file and then attempted to export the file this way but again the same message appears. V frustrating!
    I have used the same exporting / preset for months and never had a problem before.
    Any ideas? The file is quite large in size - around 80mb but not sure this would cause a problem when trying to generate a high res pdf.
    All thoughts / suggestions welcome!
    Thanks

    Sometimes this is caused by insufficient system resources. In such cases exporting in chunks and combining in Acrobat generally will work.
    If that 's not it, it's most ikley an object on a page that is damaged or otherwise non-cooperative. You can isloate the page by trying  to export half at a time, then half of each section that fails. Once you've isolated the page you can do the same withthe objects on the page.
