Redundancy link - Fiber & Microwave

hi,
We have an existing fiber link from 2 sites: Exchange 1 <---> Exchange 2
We would like to engage a contractor to supply us a secondary/redundant Microwave link; linking both sites.
If we have a single 2900 Series router at both sites.
Question is: what is the best method to provide redundancy OR load sharing for both fiber & microwave link?
Have not dealt with microwave link before; is there any special config that is needed on Cisco 2900 router side?
From my understanding; microwave vendor will be giving us a copper/RJ45 connection to our cisco 2900 router.
Please advise.

i would recommend you to use L3 /30 p2p per link rather than L2 to avoid extending spanning tree and increasing the complexity unless L2 is required between the sites
using IGP or static routes with differnt administrative distance AD as Collin mentioned is the simplest way you can use
also you can use IP SLA to improve the static route and make it more network aware

  • SG300 RSTP redundant links.

The only thing that really grabs my attention there isTextspaiining-tree bpdu filteringIf that global config is applied to trunks in the same way that (for example) spanning-tree portfast default would be applied on an IOS switch then BPDU filtering will cause all interfaces to drop BPDU's without them being read. This will lead to a loop because (on a Catalyst switch at least) bpdu-filtering effectively turns off spanning-tree for that port causing it to stay up even when a BPDU is detected.I assume MST is used because those interfaces connect to non-Cisco devices? Switch 1 has 2 MST instances whereas switches 2 and 3 only have one. I have no idea what effect that might have but it doesn't seem right to me. I have rarely used MST but as with many other protocols I suspect their config should match for them to work effectively.

I have three cisco sg300 switches that I have linked over microwave. I'm trying to create a redundant ring with RSTP but I cannot get it to block one of the links and stop the loop. The switches negotiate at STP instead of RSTP on the ports linking to the other switches.  These ports are Trunked VLAN ports, but have all the same VLANs on them. Can anyone give me an idea of what I am doing to set them up wrong?

  • Redundant link issue

Hi, I am having a redundant design upgrade request from the client.
Here is the scenario, location A is the servers room, location B is a remote site. There is a 3560 switch at location A and location B and they are connected to ISP WAN at this moment. ISP does the routing and switching.
I need to build a direct connected microwave data link between location A and B as a redundant link. Please check the diagram
On the switch at location B, Gi0/1 is connected to ISP router. Fa0/47 is connected to microwave data link switch. I need to adjust the configuration of the switch such that if the G0/1 interface on the VTS switch is lost then it will pass data from port 47. In this case, how do I change my configure?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

Are you using your 3560's as routers? Or are you just passing everything to your ISP?
Maybe post the configs for both your 3560's?

  • Reroute some vrf traffic between 2 sites over redundant link

    hey guys,
We have a single client (in vrf) with 2 sites in different states and running over our mpls core.. Our primary link in our core is experiencing degredation of service and want to route this client over our redundant link while keeping all other clients going over our primary link - is this possible?
The client in question has its own vrf (L3VPN) at both sites and is running over mpls between both sites. We want to re-route this particular client to take our backup path, while keeping everyone else between both sites going over the primary. We are not using TE, instead LDP to build MPLS.
I don't believe this is possible to only re-route one client, however I thought I would ask the question.
We cannot failover to secondary link for everyone between both sites because the link doesn't have the capacity.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Using MPLS TE would certainly be an option. You would need to setup an MPLS TE LSP over the backup. You would also need to configure a separate lookback interface on each PE and use this loopback interface address as the next hop for the specific VRF
    ip vrf X
    bgp next-hop loopback 999
    ip route 255.255.255.255 Tu1
This way you would make sure that only the traffic for this specific VRF would travel over the TE tunnel.

  • Solution for a redundant link

I am looking for a solution on redundant link between the central and remote sites. When I came across some of documents regarding backup links I ended with so many and I am pretty much confused in choosing the correct one. So, can some one suggest me which will be the best backup solution for DSL and ISDN as the backup line. Some of the solutions which I came across are : (excuse me : if I am wrong)
    1 . Floating Static
    2. ODR routing
    3. Backup interface (this command can be added in the primary interface) and
    4. Dialer Profiles.
    Thanks in advance
    Rajesh

    hi rajesh,
when ever we are talking about the backup for ISDN there are lots of method as you mension...but after all its depends on you...
like when ever you are going to have the floating static route and backup interface then you need to configure the accesslist in order to fire the backup ISDN line...as both this technologies need to have the intresting traffic in order to fire the ISDN back up link....
and whenever you are going to have the dialer watch then it will fire the ISDN line with out any intresting traffic as it loss the primary route from the routing table...
so its all up to you how you are going to deploy it in your network and your requirment...
    hope this will help you

  • Hide redundant links to forms

On every iView which display a from (which was created by Forms Builder) there are links to all the other projects. i.e. an author of the "News" form can click a link name "New FAQ's". I would like to delete all those redundant links.
I was looking on help at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/8d/2813418366f023e10000000a155106/content.htm and it directed me to: Content Management > Form-Based Publishing > Forms Availability > Folder Settings. I don't find, on my portal, this path (there is nothing under "Form-Based Publishing").
    1. Is it en error on the help document, or on my portal?
    2. Where can I eliminate those redundant links?

    Hi,
the path "Content Management" -- "Form-Based Publishing" -- "Forms Availability" -- "... Settings" is to be found under "System Administration" -- "System Configuration" -- "Configuration" -- ...
This holds for CM from SP2 Patch 5 on (and SP3 and above, the help is for NetWeaver).
Before, the following link shows how to filter the form types: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_ep60sp2/helpdata/en/79/1d7d85db9d95438b3051324d52619f/content.htm

  • CSS box to box redundancy redundant link

    Hello,
Does CSS 15001 with firmware version sg0820001 (08.20.0.01) require gigabit link for box to box redundancy's redundant link?
    Thank's
    Raymond.

The crossover cable used for the redundant link can be connected to two Gigabit Ethernet or two Fast Ethernet ports.
    See:

  • WLC 4402 redundant Link

We have a WLC, currently it has a single trunk link into a 6506 and all works fine.
we have recently upgraded network to VSS system , so now we have two 6506 ,   i want to connect the redundant port of 4402 onto the other new switch , is there anything special i need to do?
as it is a virtual switch it is connecting to, does anyone know if WLC is capable of doing etherchannel or something similar?
    Many thanks

The question is not on WLC. WLC will bundle its 2 ports the same way whatever happens.
The question is on the switch. You cannot create an etherchannel that spans several switches, so that won't work. But for the VSS, I think you can create a portchannel that will englobe ports on the 2 switches, so if yes then it's ok with WLC.

  • Redundant link between two core sites with MPLS

    Hi,
we have 50+ sites connected via MPLS. (see diagram)
Out core sites are SITE A (primary) & SITE B (secondary). These core sites are connected via a ptp link.
Both sites connect to the MPLS cloud via their own routers and all sites can reach SITE A & SITE B.
Now, if I pull the cable on SITE A's MPLS router, nothing can reach SITE A as expected.
Is it possible to get all of the MPLS sites to reach SITE A via SITE B's MPLS router and PtP link (and vice versa if SITE B's MPLS router went down)
Basically, redundancy if one of the MPLS routers went down at one of the core sites?

    Hi,
    yes, it's clearer now.
So what I'd think about would be running OSPF between the MPLS router and L3 switch on each site.
You would redistribute BGP prefixes to OSPF then.
And also configure a default route on the L3 switch pointing to the other L3 switch over the ptp line.
Plus keep the static routes for the other core site prefixes pointing to the other L3 switch over the ptp line.
    That way:
    1) Under normal conditions the L3 switch in site A will use a static route over ptp line (better AD than OSFP) to reach site B and vice versa.
    2) In a case of MPLS router A failure:
The outging traffic from Site A would be routed via the ptp line to the L3 switch in site B (due to the default route). The L3 switch in site B will know the routes to the remote MPLS sites (received via OSPF from MPLS router B).
The incoming traffic will be received on the MPLS router B (due to prefixes for site A advertised from B with worse BGP attributes - but no prefixes advertised to MPLS from A). The MPLS router in Site B will use its static routes to forward the traffic to the L3 switch in site B. And the L3 switch will use its static routes for site A prefixes to forward the traffic over the ptp line.
Analogic routing will be applied in a case of MPLS router failure in site B.
    3) In a case of the ptp line going Down:
The static routes should disapper from the routing tables on both L3 switches.
But they should still get the routes to the other core site received from OSPF (redistributed from BGP).
    4) So the only problematic case might be the ptp line failing but the L3 switch interface remaining Up.
You might need to get either some tracking (not sure if available on L3 switches) or dynamic routing involved to overcome this.
Either running OSPF between the L3 switches  or even runnig EIGRP to route the site A and B prefixes only possibly?
But I'm not sure if this wouldn't bring too much complexity to the design?
    Best regards,
    Milan

  • Dell Powerconnect 6248 1gb and 10gb "redundant" Links

Hello,I have two powerconnect 6248 switches on separate floors that are currently linked with a 1gb fiber. This environment was setup prior to me joining this team.We have noticed that we are saturating the 1gb line and need to go to a 10gb link. The building is already cabled with a 10gb aqua fiber bundle that runs about 220 meters, and we have purchased the appropriate sfp+ modules and fiber patch cables. We need to make this switch with little to no downtime and the proposed solution by the prior sysadmin was to connect the 10gb link and leave the 1gb link as failover. To give a little background on the switch environment, there are 4 vlans including the default vlan 1 and all vlans are tagged on the ports for the 1gb link. STP is enabled on both switches. So I disabled the sfp+ ports, plugged the fiber cables in, and set the ports to...

  • Redundant links

    Hello,
Please have a look at attached diagram. R1 is attached to MPLS VPN backbone and internet, R2 and R3 are connected through MPLS VPN to R1 and also directly. All sites are accessing HQ through MPLS VPN backbone using OSPF for intranet and internet. Remote sites have ADSL backup links for redundancy. If the link between R4 and backbone fails and is it possible to switch to ADSL link to route all traffic and to access HQ. Please guide.
    Regards

    Hello,
there are various ways in which you can configure the ADSL link as a backup to the MPLS VPN, the easiest being to define two static default route, one of which has a higher administrative distance:
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Tunnel0
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 ATM0.1 250
This way, all you traffic would be routed out the tunnel VPN interface that connects to the MPLS cloud, and the ADSL link would only become active when the primary interface fails.

  • CSS 11151 VIP Redundancy - Link State Redundancy/Keepalive

I have a pair of CSS 11151 each connected to a pair of cross-connected 3550 switches,I've configured VIP & Interface Redundacy, either VLAN1 interface or VLAN2 interface is shut down will cause the virtual router switchover. Recently I met some problem with CSS switchover when just one VLAN1 interface shutdown, and I was told that "type redundancy-up" should not work with VIP redundant mode, so I am trying to configure a critical service with a keepalive ap-kal-pinglist and ping all the circuit vlan's ip address on the CSS itself. but I am still confuse with some aspects.
    1. Should I configure two separate virtual router for two circuit VLANs?
    2. How to configure the service IP address? Because two 3550 have separate vlan ip address, and did not configured HSRP.
    3. The script on my CSS is different with document, can I edit a new ap-kal-pinglist script to replace it?
    Here's my config...
    !************ INTERFACE *********************
    interface 2
    bridge vlan 2
    !**************** CIRCUIT **************************
    circuit VLAN1
    ip address 10.0.2.33 255.255.255.128
    ip virtual-router 1 priority 100
    ip redundant-interface 1 10.0.2.29
    ip critical-service 1 sw1-up-down
    ip critical-service 1 sw2-up-down
    circuit VLAN2
    ip address 10.0.2.133 255.255.255.240
    ip virtual-router 1 priority 100
    ip redundant-interface 1 10.0.2.129
    ip redundant-vip 1 10.0.2.132
    ip critical-service 1 gateway
    !************************** SERVICE
    service gateway
    ip address 10.0.2.130
    type redundancy-up
    active
    service sw1-up-down
    ip address 10.0.2.30
    type redundancy-up
    active
    service sw2-up-down
    ip address 10.0.2.31
    type redundancy-up
    active

I would recommend an upgrade to version 7.40 in order to get the 'reporter' functionality.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/contnetw/ps792/products_command_reference_chapter09186a008028fe6c.html
A reporter let you define which ports you want to monitor and when to failover [all ports down or any port down].
If you can't use 7.40, here is an answer to your question :
    1. it does not matter. The vrid is used to differentiate other instances of VRRP that could exist on the same VLAN.
    2. if you plan to use an ap-kal-pinglist, the service ip address really does not matter. The keepalive will use the ip addresses that you will pass to the ap-kal-pinglist function
    3. you can modify the script and upload it back to the CSS. However, I would recommend using a different name in case you need the original script in the future.

    Gilles.

  • ASA redundant failover links

    Hi,
We are setting up a new ASA which is in multi context mode.  I was wondering if it is possible to setup redundant failover and state links?  I know that it is possible to run failover on one link and state on another, or both over the same link, but is it possible to have both failover and state running on 2 links?  For example, failover and state on ten1/0 as well as failover and state on ten1/1.
Hope I have explained my question well enough.  If not I will try to explain better.
    thanks

I would suggest to make a redundant logical link and attach two physical links to it. Than during failover link configuration specify your redundant link as a failover link. Not sure if it works but dont see any obstacles for this solution to fail..

  • SG300-10mp Fibre Link aggregation

      Hi,
I have 2 SG300-10mp switches which i am trying to create a link redundancy for over the two fibre ports.
On the web interface when i go into the LAG settings ports g9 and g10 which are the fibre ones don't show up.
How do i create the link aggregation between them? Or perhaps i'm doing the wrong thing... All i require is the two switches to function as normal, however should one fibre port become faulty or the cable to break, the over port just takes over straight away with no latency, or atleast very minimal.
    Please help!

    Hello Ashley,
I think I see where the confusion is here.
When you are looking at the LAG settings page, the 8 things you see listed represent the 8 possible LAGs that the switch can handle, the page actually looks exactly the same even with a 24 port switch.  You are seeing the LAGs themselves, not your individual switchports.
If you go to LAG management, you should be able to select one of those 8 LAGs and click the edit button.  The window that pops up should allow you to add both fiber ports to the LAG.  I don't have one of these in front of me right now, but since the SFP slots on the 300's are combo ports they will probably be numbered as whatever the ethernet port combo'ed to the SFP slot is.
Simply add the ports you would like to the LAG, and check LACP if you are using it on the other switch (you cannot change this setting later, you would have to delete the LAG first).
This way you have the redundancy you are looking over with the added benefit of having more throughput available between those two switches, since the traffic will be load-balanced across the LAG.
A LAG will also failover much faster than two redundant links, since it won't have to go through the Spanning Tree process everytime a link state changes.
Like I said I don't have one of these in front of me right now, so if I messed something up let me know and I will try it in the lab tomorrow.
Let me know if you need any more information,
