Redundant Power Supply

Hi everyone,
I would like to know if the SG500-28 supports redundant power supply (means 2 power inputs) ?
Thank you.

Thank you for your response Mr. Lewis.
In fact, I need to know either if the native hardware of the SG500-28 switch supports the power redundancy or not.
P.S : I don't really know when did I create this account, but it is certain that I was harry So thanks for reminding me to change this awesome nickname

  • Monitoring 3750x and 3560x Redundant Power Supply and Fans

I need help for monitoring the redundant power supply of my switches (3750x and 3560x)
I have configured my snmp on my switches and is able to monitor interfaces, temperature and etc.
The problem is when I am monitoring the redundant power supply and fans.
I am using two Cisco C3KX-PWR-350WAC Modular Power Supply per switch.
The OID I use to monitor the PSU are the following:
    Power Supply 1
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.5.1.3 Instance: 1003
    Power Supply 2
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.5.1.3 Instance: 1004
When I do an SNMP walk, the value is showing (1) which means normal.
When I simulate a power outage on power supply 1 or 2 by unplugging the power source, the value doesn't change and is still (1).
    Values: normal(1), warning(2), critical(3), shutdown(4), notPresent(5)
    As for the Fans:
When I remove the fan module, I am able to get a notification that the fans are down, but when I plug back the fan module it is now using a different instance.
Below is my config for SNMP:
    snmp-server community XXXXXXXXXXXXXX RO
    snmp-server location XXXXXX
    snmp-server contact XXXXXX
    snmp-server chassis-id Cisco3560X
snmp-server enable traps snmp authentication linkdown linkup coldstart warmstart

    snmp-server enable traps cpu threshold
    snmp-server enable traps syslog
    snmp-server enable traps vlancreate
    snmp-server enable traps vlandelete
    snmp-server enable traps port-security
snmp-server enable traps envmon fan shutdown supply temperature status
    snmp-server enable traps errdisable
    snmp-server enable traps vlan-membership
    snmp-server host X.X.X.X version 2c XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Note: This problem is the same for all of my 3560X switches and 3750X switches. I am not sure if I am monitoring the wrong OID.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi ,
You are running an old IOS code , definitely you are hitting a BUG .
there is no workaround or I would say unfirtunetely you will not be able to get the correct power supply status via SNMP.
you need to use command line for this.
I mean "show env all "
**** if you want to know the Excat BUG that your code is hitting ,please contact TAC.
    Thanks-

    Hi Senthil,
What are the LED status on RPS. It looks like RPS may have gone faulty. How many switches are connected to it?  Possibly a  reset of RPS could fix this issue, else replace it.

Does Cisco7301 "dual power supply" mean "redundant power supply"?

    Posting
On a 7301, I believe it does act as a redundant power supply, and this is often true for many Cisco devices with dual power supplies, but there can be exceptions.  For example, on the 6500 chassis, you might use dual power supplies in combined mode, i.e. failure of a power supply would leave the chassis short of necessary power.  The 3560X/3750X might also have insufficient power if a power supply fails when running on two (this issue may arise when using PoE).

  • 3845 Router redundant power supply question

Is it possible to swap out a bad redundant power supply on a 3845 router without powering down the router?

The FAQ at this URL indicates that they ARE in fact hot-swappable.  Please review it here, under "System Power (AC/DC)".

  • Adding Redundant Power Supply

       Hi,
I was wondering if I am able to add a redundant power supply to an asr 1001 router that is in production without losing connectivity or causing any diruption to the Users  - is it hotswappable?
    Thank you, Pat.

    Hi Pat,
Yes, the power supplies are indeed hot swappable. Check out the quote from the following link :
"All system components are hot-swappable. They are designed to be removed and replaced while the
system is operating without presenting an electrical hazard or damage to the system."

  • CNA & "switch redundant power supply"

Just configured trunking between these switches:
    2950T-48-SI
    3508G-XL
    3548-XL
The traffic appears to be flowing correctly through both the default VLAN and also my additional VLAN.
Now, ALL of the 2950 switches on my network display this message: "switch redundant power supply failed" when I connect to them using the Cisco Network Assistant.
Seems like the error message must be related somehow to the VLAN configuration I did.
In a nutshell, I configured all connected Gigabit ports this way:
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
I only configured SOME of my switches for the trunking and additional VLAN - must all of them be configured the say way, even if I don't anticipate needing the additional VLANS on those switches?
    Thanks, Susan

    Hi Susan,
Do you have redundant power supplies connected to the 2950s?
If not, you are probably running into a cosmetic bug, CSCee96721.
We can confirm this by issuing a "show env" in the CLI.
You should see something like this:
    "switch#sho env all
    FAN is OK
    Internal POWER supply is OK
    RPS is NOT present
    RPS is FAULTY"
Note that the last line indicates that the RPS is faulty, even though the line above it indicates that no RPS is present.
If that applies to you as well, then you are hitting this bug. CNA is polling the same information, which is why you are seeing "switch redundant power supply failed" in CNA.
The fix is in 12.1(22)EA3 and later.
    HTH,
    Bobby

  • Cisco 3850 Redundant Power Supply Reporting Issue

We have deployed several Cisco 3850's. Several are showing the following symptom
    ont2-tc3-es01#sh env power
SW  PID                 Serial#     Status           Sys Pwr  PoE Pwr  Watts
    1A  PWR-C1-715WAC       DCB1702G0QU  OK              Good     Good     715
    1B  PWR-C1-715WAC       DCB1702G0G6  No Response     Good     Good     715
Every single switch at this particular location has the same status on the B power supply. The problem was there on the previous code level (3.2.2) and we recently upgraded to 3.3.5 to resolve some SNMP bugs on the switches we also expected the latest Assurewave version to fix this issue also. So couple questions:
    1. Anyone else seeing this?
    2. Anyone found a fix for it?
                   Thanks!
                              Marty

    Hi Zabeel,
I did talk with TAC - per the engineer there are two bugs that cause the issue and one was fixed in 3.3.5 - so we upgraded all our 3850's to that code level. Unfortunately for us, that still didn't fix the issue. TAC suggested that it may be fixed in rev 3.7.0, but that has not officially been confirmed by Cisco's developers.
We're waiting for the official "fix" before going through another round of switch upgrades.
TAC did suggest reseating the power supply if you still have the issue after the upgrade to 3.3.5 - but that's not really an option for me since my switches are geographically spread out.

  • Redundant power supply for 3900 router series

    Dear support,
does the spare power supply PWR-3900-AC= include a power cable?
    best regards

The 5B01 backplane itself requires no current, just the individual modules. 1A should suffice well then. Personally, I use separate low noise linear regulated supplies for the backplanes in my designs.

  • BE6K redundant power supply

I have finished installing 2 new BE6K's a week ago and they are in production now. I just received the secondary power supplies for both so can I install them while in production without causing service interuption or do I need to schedule down time to install?

    Hi,
No you don't need to power down the server, just insert the new supplies.

  • Plugging in redundant on-board power supply

    HI,
Is it possible for me to plug in and turn on on-board redundant power supply for a 4402 WLC that is already online and in production without any disruption to Wireless users and APs attached to that same controller?
    Thanks, Pat.

That power supply should be hot swappable.  But as with anything having to do with power, you are better served by taking the system down.  that way you can avoid any arcing.

  • RV082 power supply query?

Can we buy the primary power supply as spare for router “RV082”? Also, does this support redundant power supply?
Do we have a doc on accessories for Cisco small business?

Hi Amiller, there is no toggle switch. It supports both. So long as you have a correct power adapter/source should not be any problems.
Here's the datasheet for more power info

  • Catalyst 2955T-12 Power Supply n IGMP Snooping

    Hello everyone,
I have Two Catalyst 2955T-12 switches, on this switch there are Two Power Supply (DC) options...I want to implement redundant Power Supply solution, can this Two DC Input on Switch will give this solution or I have also external Din Rail power supply...my question is how I can implement redundant power supply so that if one PS of switch fails then automatically other will start?
Also can any body tell me what IGMP snooping do? do I need to configure it? also the command (I need global command as well as port/interface based command)?
    Regards,
    Shahid

For the power redundancy question, I believe this link will help:
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat2950/12122ea2/2955hig/hginstal.htm
Also can any body tell me what IGMP snooping do? do I need to configure it? also the command (I need global command as well as port/interface based command)?
    >>Layer 2 switches can use IGMP snooping to constrain the flooding of multicast traffic by dynamically configuring Layer 2 interfaces so that multicast traffic is forwarded to only those interfaces associated with IP multicast devices. As the name implies, IGMP snooping requires the LAN switch to snoop on the IGMP transmissions between the host and the router and to keep track of multicast groups and member ports. When the switch receives an IGMP report from a host for a particular multicast group, the switch adds the host port number to the forwarding table entry; when it receives an IGMP Leave Group message from a host, it removes the host port from the table entry. It also periodically deletes entries if it does not receive IGMP membership reports from the multicast clients.
The multicast router sends out periodic IGMP general queries to all VLANs. When IGMP snooping is enabled, the switch responds to the router queries with only one join request per MAC multicast group, and the switch creates one entry per VLAN in the Layer 2 forwarding table for each MAC group from which it receives an IGMP join request. All hosts interested in this multicast traffic send join requests and are added to the forwarding table entry.
IGMP Snooping is by default Enabled globally and per VLAN. If for some reason it is not enabled, "ip igmp snooping" at the config mode to enable it.
There is nothing else to configure.
