Reestablishing Hotsync on a Treo 650

I have a Treo650 that was configured to sync with Novel Groupwise.  This was our business application.  I am now retired and want to sync my 650 with Outlook.  I downloaded the Palm Desktop and during the installation process it provides for a place to sync.  When I try to sync, nothing happens.  Looking at the programs on my 650, I see Activesync and Intellisync but not Hotsync.  Do I need to get Hotsync back on my 650?  If so how?
I tried to use Activesync but it gave me an error message.  If I can use Activesync, let me know that as well.
Also, I believe the Intellisync was purchased separately and added to sync with Novell.

Are you sure you have a Treo 650 with Palm OS?
If you have activesync on the Treo, this indicates a Windows Mobile Treo, not a Palm OS device. Palm OS devices use Palm desktop and Windows Mobile devices use Outlook.
On the main screen on the device, do you have a start Icon and the Windows Mobile today screen?
If your Treo is a Windows Mobile Treo, you will need to install Activesync 4.5 on your PC which can be downloaded here;
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/ActiveSync-download.mspx
Once you have Activesync installed on the PC, connect and it should sync with Outlook 2003 or higher.

    To the best of my recollection, the 9/16/08 Date Book HotSync failure shown above roughly coincided with the onset of similar failures when I have attempted to HotSync the same Treo with the Windows XP Pro box I use at work.  I don't know whether the HotSync failure on the Windows Vista Box I have at home preceded the failure on the XP box I use at work or vice versa, but I have to wonder if a HotSync failure for an App on one box can trigger similar failures for the same App when one attempts to HotSync it on other boxes.   I've trolled this help forum and haven't found any leads.  I really need to get my calendars at work and home back on the same page, so I would greatly appreciate suggestions. jfzaehringer

    There may be database corruption causing the issue. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.

  • RE: Help! Bluetooth Hotsync Failure w/ Treo 650, Leopard, & Bootcamp

    I need to Hotsync my Treo 650 under both Mac OS X v.5 (Leopard) and Win XP on the same machine running under Boot Camp. Before Leopard, I was able to do this via Bluetooth (cable on Treo 650 does not work right at all) without issue.
    Under Leopard, when I try to Hotsync, I get the error, "Unable to initiate Hotsync operation because port is in use by another application". If I Delete the device from the Bluetooth list and setup the device from scratch, it works perfectly and continues to do so while in Leopard.
    But when I go to Win XP under Bootcamp and try to sync, I get the same error message all over again. To fix it, I delete and recreate the device setup in Bluetooth and it syncs just fine while in XP. But when I return to Mac OS X, I am back to the same error message and must delete and recreate the device again.
    Does anyone know how I can set up the Treo 650 so that I don't have to delete and recreate the Bluetooth setup everytime I need to sync?

    Thanks Michael, your answers in all the other threads I've read appear to be to the point and helpful.

    An easy way to reactivate hotsync is to go to Program Files -> Palm -> Hotsync.exe.   Create a Hotsync.exe shortcut on your desktop. Click the shortcut and wait for 10 seconds. The hotsync function will come back. May have to do this frequently before fixing the root cause. Spyware software is a possible cause. Check the quarantine folder to see if any "Palm related" files are quarantined. If so, restore them.     Hope this can be helpful.

  • Can't HotSync - Vista 32 won't doesn't recognize my Treo 650 (Sprint)

    I just purchased a Windows Vista32 laptop (Dell 1737).  I've installed Palm Desktop 6.2 (with HotSync Manger 7.0.2).  I can't get the hotsync to work.  I think it related to the fact that when I connect my Treo 650 to the laptop via a USB cable, I don't see a reference in the device manager to a Palm device being connected to the machine.
    If I select the Add Hardware function from the control panel and look at hardware types that can be manually setup, I can see an entry for "Palm OS Handheld Devices", but it grayed out and can't be selected.
    Any thoughts on how to get Vista32 to recognize that the device is connected?  Thanks in advance to anyone that takes the time to response.

    You may need to "clean" uninstall Palm desktop and start again. It sounds like the drivers are not loading.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
    Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
    Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    Skip the first step above because you have no data in Palm desktop.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
    from your PC Operating System registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
    they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
    box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
    you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
    did not sync before you create a hotsync name.

  • Setup problem:  Can't setup Treo 650 (Cingular) with iSync on Macbook

    Hi,
    Trying to use my Treo 650 with iSync on my MacBook. It worked fine with an iMac G5 running OS X 10.4.8.
    I paired my Treo with the MacBook. That seemed to go OK, but the Bluetooth Setup Assistant showed a message saying "There were no supported services found on your device" at the end of the pairing process.
    When I launched iSync, I went to Devices --> Enable Palm OS Syncing and let the conflicting Palm conduits disabled. No problem there.
    But when I then choose Devices --> Add Device, a window appears as the MacBook searches and finds my phone. It then displays the message "1 device found", with the name of my device next to a phone icon. Beneath that, another message says "iSync cannot connect to this device".
    Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong? My Treo is set to discoverable. I can't figure it out.
    Thanks in advance!

    The Add Device… response is normal. You cannot add a Palm device using that menu option - it is added as a consequence of selecting the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option beneath it in the list.
    If you have successfully paired your Treo using Bluetooth and triggered the installation and configuration of it after selecting the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option and it still does not appear as a device in the main window of iSync, you should launch the HotSync Manager to insure that the iSync Palm Conduit appears—it's listed as the iSync Conduit—and that it has been activated: the checkbox in the conduit configuration panel should be checked.
    This may also be a basic Bluetooth issue, as the your Treo contains several supported Bluetooth profiles, and is a supported device. You might want to break the link, and pair it once again, initiating that action from your smartphone and confirming it from your MacBook.

  • Palm Desktop seems to back up only select data from Treo 650

    I recently transferred my Palm Desktop program and backup files from my old XP PC to my new PC running Windows 7 (64bit).  Aside from the frustrations of being unable to HotSync using USB, I was more concerned that that address & calendar files in my user folder were nearly empty.   My calendar contained 14 random events from within the last month and the address book contained three contacts (my Treo contains hundreds).  Each folder should have contained considerably more data.  I went back to the original user folder on my old PC and the saved data was no different.  Although hundreds of events & contacts appear on my Treo and in the Palm Desktop, my user file has less than 1MB of data in those respective folders.
    Can I conclude that my monthly HotSyncs have been faulty all of this time?  Or am I looking in the wrong place for my complete data.  Until I find a workaround the Windows 7 problem, I want to make sure all my data is at least present on the hard-drive (even though I can't HotSync).
    FYI, this is where I found my skimpy data:   C:/Palm OS Desktop/(username)/address   and   C:/Palm OS Desktop/(username)/datebook     .   The Palm Desktop is Version 6.2.2
    Thank you!
    Post relates to: Treo 650 (Sprint)

    An update to the above issue:   All of the datebook & address data IS present within the *.aba files within my user folder when opened via Microsoft Access.  However, when I import those files into Palm Desktop, only a small handful of events (28 out 5000+) and addresses (3 out 1000+) appear.

  • Problems syncing with iCal and Treo 650

    I use iSync for syncing my iBook G4, .Mac, iPod Photo and Treo 650. It has worked fine until a month ago. The iSync conduit somehow works OK with the Contacts/Address Book, but doesn't for the Tasks and Calendar (iCal). It is a real pain the to write everything manually on the Treo and the iBook separately. Can anyone help me with this? I really don't want to replace (reset) all the info on my Treo; this will cause me to re-categorize everything in the Treo, for iSync doesn't take care of it as far as I know. Thanks, ~L

    What does your HotSync log say about these unsuccessful attempts to synchronize your Treo 650?
    While it is important to correct this problem, if you want support for categories, calendar colors, contact photographs or icons, extended electronic mail addresses, URL and birthday data, you should ditch iSync in favor of the Missing Sync for Palm OS, a much more powerful and reliable program:
    http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php
    On advanced Palm organizers and smartphones like your Treo 650, extended support is available as outlined in this document, for contacts…
    http://www.markspace.com/support/kb.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=2560
    …and this document, for events and tasks:
    http://www.markspace.com/support/kb.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=2563
    In addition, it supports internet sharing, Finder mounting and file transfer with SD cards, conduit profiles, iPhoto and iTunes media file synchronization, the synchronization of AvantGo content, and network synchronization of supported devices.

  • Syncing iCal and Address Book w/ my Treo 650 (Who overwrites who?)

    I am able to sync both address book and ical with my treo 650.
    My question is:
    1. When I change a date or contact's info on my treo why does it not change that entry on my Mac? It adds a different one.
    2. Each time I sync I get the message for both Address book and iCal that entries will be deleted or modified on my computer. The numbers are not consistent each time I sync. I usually have to cancel the sync because many entries (I'm not sure which ones) will be deleted. How do I tell iSync or Hotsync Manager that my Computer gets priority?
    Sometimes I get the conflict window that asks which entries (iCal or Treo) should be kept.
    Any ideas?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    The synchronization framework should not behave as you describe. It appears that your truth database has become irreversibly corrupted, a condition which is easily corrected. Repeated cancellation of synchronization events likely has contributed to or amplified the underlying data corruption issue.
    A couple of basics: all participants in this process, generally referred to as synchronization clients, are peers. They do not interact directly with each other, but rather through a process of pushing changes to and pulling changes from the truth database. You cannot set one to 'override' another, though you can reset both history [which empties the truth database, leaves your clients registered and your data intact, and results in a slow, initial synchronization during the next triggered event] and data—if using .Mac Sync—[which allows you to replace all contact, event and task records stored on your computer with those stored on the .Mac servers, or visa versa.]
    The Conflict Manager is only invoked when iSync sees records with differences it cannot resolve at the field, rather than record, level. In such cases, it asks you to choose one record which most accurately represents the collection of data you want to keep for that contact, event or task.
    To reset your synchronization history and prompt a complete restoration of your truth database, do this:
    • launch iSync
    • open the Preferences… dialog
    • press the Reset Sync History… button
    This Apple developer document explains how these process work, and may clarify some of these issues for you.

    For anyone looking for a one-time method of migrating from Palm Desktop to Outlook, this website offers a free conversion utility.  It uses the exported DBA file to create an iCal file, which can then be imported into Outlook.  It worked with Palm Desktop 6.2.2 and Outlook 2010 (64-bit) as of 4/5/12.
    The procedure requires uploading the exported DBA file to the conversion utility on their website, which could raise security and/or privacy issues related to information in your calendar.  The whole process (upload, convert and download) can be completed in a matter of seconds.  The process indicates that all files are immediately deleted from their servers, so it's a matter of trust.  YMMV.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Te hotsync manager does not create duplicates.
    You will need to clean up the contacts database in Outlook, hard reset your Treo, set the hotsync conduits to desktop overwrites handheld and then sync.
    Click on the following link to the kb.palm.com webpage for the article regarding reset procedures.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887
    There is a 3rd party app. that will remove duplicates in Outlook.
    Here is the link to the site; http://www.mapilab.com/outlook/remove_duplicates/
    One thing you may not be aware of is that Palm desktop 6.2 has the Outlook 2007 conduits already installed, you do not need to install the Outlook 2007 conduit update.
    You may want to remove the 2007 conduit update using control panel.

  • ISync, Palm Treo 650, and my sanity

    Just bought a Palm Treo 650 this evening and I'm having the hardest time.
    Been trying to iSync via USB with mixed luck. I installed the software that came with the phone, made sure my HotSync settings were correct, and hit the Hotsync button on the USB cable.
    Nothing happened for several tries. Was as if the cable was broken as the Palm just couldn't contact the computer and would eventually time out.
    Then when I used the AC adapter along with the USB I got a different result. The Palm and Mac were now talking. But it did give me errors regarding the conduits being in conflict. So I changed the settings on some of the conduits and I finally got a successful sync.
    Well semi-successful. Some of the stuff didn't seem to be syncing. Like some of my iCal entries. So I found an article showing how to drag some of the conduits to the Disabled folder. Which I did. And now ever since I cannot seem to get the the Palm and Mac to talk again. I get the "Connecting with the desktop using Cradle/Cable" for a while and then the "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."
    Anyone know where I'm going wrong? Would really appreciate some help/advice.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    There are apparently several issues in play here. So long as you are willing to live the the limitations of the iSync Palm Conduit and synchronize via only one path—either USB or Bluetooth, but not selectively moving back and forth between the two—you can configure iSync to synchronize contact data with the Address Book and calendaring and task data with iCal.
    With the exception of non-conflicting conduits like Memos, you will be unable to synchronize at all with the Palm Desktop. [Palm conduits which conflict with iSync are those used by various models to synchronize contacts—Address Conduit and Contact Conduit—those used to synchronize calendars—Calendars Conduit and Datebook Conduit—and those used to synchronize tasks—Tasks Conduit and ToDo Conduit.]
    Unless you thoroughly understand how this technology works, it's not a great idea to 'experiment' by moving conduits manually. A properly configured Conduits folder for iSync users should contain at least…
    • Apple [the Finder name of the iSync Palm Conduit]
    • Backup
    • Install
    • Memos Conduit [only if you want to continue to synchronize memos to the Palm Desktop]
    • any non-conflicting third-party or additional conduits you want to use
    Other conduits should reside in the Disabled Conduits folder.
    You add a Palm device, either via USB or Bluetooth, using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu of iSync. You set the synchronization parameters for your device in the drop-down configuration pane exposed when you press the Tungsten icon in the main window of iSync.
    You did the right thing by installing the Palm Desktop software using the bundled CD-ROM that shipped with your Treo 650. But, you should have upgraded that application by applying the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 revision D, available here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421revd.html
    If you elect to upgrade your copy, just run that installer. Do not attempt to remove any existing components of the Palm Desktop. And keep in mind that though you may not choose to use it at all, its HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor components are critical to the operation of iSync.

  • Isync and hotsync with my treo

    Hello-
    I have a purchased the new macbookpro and a treo 650. I am trying to use the ical, mail and such on both my macbookpro and the treo. I am trying to get them to sync through the hotsync. I have installed hotsync latest manager 3.2.1 and isync 2.2 and I have the 10.4.6 Mac OS.
    I have gone to the palm website to install
    http://forums.palm.com/pe/action/forums/defaultview?msgBoardID=1&expertiseCode=_Macintosh_Ho_USCA&channelID=10100158
    yet the isync does not show in the conduit settings for the hotsync, so I am sorta stuck.
    Thanks!!

    Steve,
    Try opening PALM DESKTOP, then look for the HOT SYNC MANAGER
    and choose CONDUIT SETTINGS. You should find the isync conduit there.
