Ref: Text Resolution from Photoshop... High or Low Resolution ?

Hi people...
Can anyone tell me... for sure... that text set in Adobe Photoshop will output similar to that of text set in Adobe Illustrator... or will it output as a bitmap file and be pixelated and blurry when enlarged by 400% ?
I have the text setup on Photoshop... but to sync the EPS text with the Photoshop file in Quark is just proving too difficult and dangerous for print output.
Please advise...
Regards,
Anthony

My concern ( and yours ) is the amount of enlargement. If you set your text in Photoshop and it remained 100% for life, there shouldn't be any issues as long as the final halftone screen is fine enough to handle the text detail. For instance, newsprint text at 10pt would not be easily read using an 85 lpi halftone screen ( depending on your file's density ). But, your file is on its way to being enlarged 400%, you have to set the resolution to compensate for that enlargement, otherwise the file ( sans text ) itself will pixelate and could end up around 75ppi ( from 300ppi @ 100% ). Your file should have a resolution of 1200ppi, then if you enlarge it 400%, you'll end up with 300ppi, and with a halftone screen of 150lpi, your text should be razor sharp.

  • Having a problem moving a text document from Photoshop to Illustrator.. Won't let me edit the text

    Hi there,
I'm a complete technophobe so the answer to this could be quite obvious. I had to create a text using photoshop because of the inside of the text... i.e using a lobster font and it was pink glitter inside it so to give a girly effect.. It's for a college asignment.
I have to use illustrator CS6 to put that text on a b/ground I already made in Illustrator but the .psd doc won't let me edit it in illustrator, it's almost like a PDF. Help!
I hope it's not too confusing to understand, thanks in advance.

    Erica,
is there a simpler way of explaining that?
And I feared it was too easy to understand.
You may, in front of the overall background (which you may lock or hide):
    1) Create a background with the appearance you wish to apply to the letters, such as a solid cpolour, a gradient or other clolour transition, and some pink glitter in front of it, you may Group all this for convenience; and you may use raster artwork (maybe from Photoshop) if you like;
    2) With the Type Tool create the live Type on top of 1), you may move and size it to fit (roughly);
    3) Select 1) and 2) and Object>Clipping Mask>Make; 2) will become the (invisible) Clipping Path showing the parts of 1) that are behind it and hide the rest.
As mentioned, you may Direct Select 1) or 2) and edit or move them about relative to the background and each other.

  • Problems with white text & transparency from Photoshop to Acrobat

    Hello Adobe Community!
What I am doing: I have a design I created in Photoshop CC. This design has a transparent background. I am attempting to save this as a PDF in photoshop so I am able to open it in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and print it on any color paper with only the design showing
Issue: When I open the saved PDF in Acrobat. I can only see my white text and a faint outline of part of my design, and not even all the rest of the design.
Then when I print it on color paper only the text shows up (with black stroke) on the paper along with my crop marks I made in the PS design. also when printed on color paper the text become transparent for some reason (Showing the paper color through the stroke), even though the text was made white and the PDF document shows white text
    Here are my steps:
    1.Create Design
    2.Save as..
3.Save as type - Photoshop PDF

    11. Look at my butchered design in print
    12.Continued Frustration
So for some reason its like Acrobat is 'Ignoring' the white in my design? I'm so confused and I've been at this for hours, going through forum post after forum post and it seems like i'm doing everything correctly but I'm not getting anywhere with it.
I hope I added all necessary information, this is my first time posting here.
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Would someone mind looking at the file? any help would be very much appreciated.
Note:Also I inverted the entire design making it all black instead of all white. followed same exact steps as above, and it printed perfectly. My confusion/frustration continues.

You wrote: . . . also when printed on color paper the text become transparent for some reason (Showing the paper color through the stroke), even though the text was made white and the PDF document shows white text.
You can't print white using an inkjet or laser printer because there isn't white ink or toner in your printer.
The white needed to come from your paper which should be white.
All printers and presses use CMYK inks or toner.
What is the definition of White? C=0, M=0, Y = 0, K=0  so not a single droplet of any ink is being placed on the paper in any area that is supposed to be white..
Of course the color of the paper will show in areas where there is no ink.
When you see something white that is printed on a dark paper it using a special spot color Opaque White on a offset press..
(there is a single inket model from Epson that can print an ink that appears to be white.  The model is $7,000 by the way. the [white] ink is $350, all the other inks are only $90)
    From the Epson website:
Epson UltraChrome HDR White Ink introduces an all-new Organic Hollow Resin Particle Technology, which forces light to randomly scatter, producing the illusion of seeing the color white.
Notice that even Epson only claims it produces the illusion of white.
The only way around this issue is to print on White paper and print the "color of the paper" everywhere else on the paper that doesn't have your design elements.

  • Two xmas presents from BT - higher sync, lower ip ...

    Hi there.
After months of reasonably consistent 2.5Mbit, I noticed by hub reconnected at 8.8Mbit, wow! My noise has gone down from 20 to around 14. Perhaps the addition of xmas tree lights has acted as a noise cancelling device. (joke, the lights aren't always on).
Unfortunately this coincided with an ip profile being lowered from 2.0 (when I had 2.5Mbit) to 1.0 (now that I have 8.8).
I would imagine the BRAS would have dropped to 1.0 while my line was being run in for the 10 day period BT have mandated. Do I simply let it run it's course for a further 7 days? Even though they say 10 days, does this normally equalise more quickly? I can't wait to start downloading 2 things!

BT haven't informed me of any changes to my service level.
I am plugged into the master socket. This is internally routed into the test socket via the faceplate. I have no extensions. I had this master socket installed in July after months of various problems (any call to the BT number would reboot the hub) with the 1960s master socket that I found after I moved in last year.
I'm pretty sure the line noise is outside of my flat. I cannot prove it but I'm pretty sure since I've turned everything off and this didn't change anything. I live in the Barbican complex London, which has some seriously old BT lines. I noted a week ago my usual noise of 20dB had dropped to around 13dB. And again this has been constant whether I switch everything off or not.
I don't have a corded phone so I cannot check the quiet line test.
Here are the results: ip profile - you can plainly see it's set to 1000.
What I reckon is that the week old drop in noise has triggered my "upgrade"...

  • I just bought a new samsung 22" monitor and after talking to them found out it needs higher resolution then displayed in my settings, text resolution is bad. do I take back or can this be fixed?

I just bought a new Samsung 22" monitor. The text resolution is really bad. After talking to Samsung, I found that the needed resolution is higher then what my Mini-Mac shows available. Can this be fixed or do I return the monitor?

    Let's try again...

    You mean the Thunderbolt port.
What Mac mini do you have? Apple menu > About This Mac.

Have you tried holding Option and click the Scaled resolutions button in System prefs > Displays?

  • Decreased picture resolution when importing from Photoshop Elements

When I export pictures from Photoshop Elements 7.0 to Premier Elements 7.0 the resolution decreases significantly.  I tried to "bypass" Photoshop by importing the pictures from my hard drive but ended up with the same problem.
Can anyone help me to locate a solution to this problem?
    Thanks.

This is because, when you port your slideshow to Premiere Elements, it becomes video -- and video has a resolution of essentially 640x480 pixels at 72 ppi.
If you'd like to save your slideshow at full resolution, you'll need to use one of the other export options -- and you'll need to make it playable on a computer, which has a higher resolution than your TV.

  • Resolution from Photoshop to HDV?

    Hi,
I'm editing a video with HDV material and I need to use some graphics from Photoshop (JPGs) into my project, I don't know in what resolution I have to save the JPGs; I know that 300dpi is for print and 72dpi is for computers and TV, but I don't know the number for HDV as it is higher quality... does anybody know?
    Cheers
    Javier

Use 1920x1080 square pixels, if you want your JPGs to exactly fit a HDV frame. Make your images bigger (say 3500x1500 pixels) if you want to zoom into/move around them. "dpi" is irrelevant for video, SD or HD(V).
( BTW: I shall have to ignore your statement "300dpi is for print and 72dpi is for computers and TV" as that is always a dangerous (and wrong) thing to say.... )

  • I can't past in any text from Photoshop to Premiere, RTL or LTR Latin, Hebrew or Arabic text to Premiere Pro cc 2014. It works only between Photoshop 2014 - AE 2014.

Any one suffering from the same issue?
I use to write text RTL(right to left) written languages like Arabic and Hebrew in Photoshop, where after copy and paste the text in Premiere to get the job done. With the latest version of Adobe cc 2014 I can't copy and past any text in to Premiere from Photoshop any more, not even text written in latin. Any one has the same problem or work around this issue possibly. It still works fine to copy/paste arabic text written on Photoshop in to After Effects, but Premiere pro 2014 when you paste any text.
I'm sure this forum works as feedback for Adobe in general and my question is:
    - Does adobe have any intention in the future to implement RTL text writing in Adobe CC or not? Could any one please answer this question from ADOBE?
As media consultant I can only recommend for my clients using RTL to use Apple FCP X which has built in RTL support and a new way of editing and greater workflow.

Please check this blog post. Updating from Time Machine can cause this issue: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later).

  • Photoshop CC 2014 - "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialised".

This problem has just started, only with CC 2014. It doesn't happen with CC or CS6.
When I open a particular layered file, then Duplicate it, then close the original Master file I get the "text engine" warning box when I try to enter text in the copy file.
If I enter text in the original Master file - no problem.
If the Master file is still open and I try to enter text in the copy file  - no problem.
I've validated all my fonts in Font Book, deleting all the duplicates and one corrupt font. No change to problem.
I've gone to User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC2014/ and trashed the CT Font Cache folder. No change to problem.
    I've run PS Update.
    Running OS 10.9.3.
    Any suggestions?

I'm having the same issue on my work computer. I found this info in Adobe's help section.

  • Simulating high and low resolution

    Edit: I'm using CS5
I'm clueless about creating an effect to an existing image.
I want a very small center point of the image to be unchanged. Just outside of the center should appear as if it's slightly lower resolution, and the further you go from the center the lower resolution it appears. So by the time you get to the edge of the picture it's not easy to tell what you're seeing.
I think I want to do this one of two ways. I don't know which will look better or is possible.
    1. Pixels combined to be the same color, perhaps some blur effect that increases away from the center, or,
    2. An overlay of scattered black pixels only, with the concentration of black pixels increasing away from the center, or
    3. the above two combined.

    Hello Rich,
The actual excitation voltages you are reading don't go through the amplifier on the SCXI-1520. Therefore, when the excitation signals are included in the scan list, that can confuse NI-DAQ. If you look at the reading from the channel of the SCXI-1520, it will be off, but it will be off by a factor. What's happening is that when you read from the channel and then read from the excitation signals, no gain is being applied to the channel (even if you insert a range of +/- .1 V) but NI-DAQ thinks a gain is applied. So, NI-DAQ divides down the voltage even though it doesn't need to.
For instance, if you read from the channel of the SCXI-1520 first and include a limit of +/- 0.1 V, NI-DAQ thinks a gain of 100 will be used. The 1520 appl
ies no gain so your reading in LabVIEW will be 100 time less than it should be. This just happens when you are trying to apply a gain to a channel prior to reading from the excitation signals. I haven't found a source that says this, but my testing has pointed this out.
With regards to the PXI-4220, it should act the same way. If you take a look at the block diagram of the SCXI-1520 and the PXI-4220, both have the excitation signals (P+, P-) going directly to the multiplexer without passing through the amplifier. So the setup of both devices look the same. You can find the block diagram of the devices in the user manual's which I've linked below.

The Dvd is for a tv serie, and the font is fine in the program it selfe..
hope that someone can help me, all the answerd i found on the forum where quite old, maybe someone has discoverd something new

If you are using more than 72 DPI, or the wrong size, in your template in Photoshop, DVD SP scales it for you, which is something you do not want to happen. 55 Point type should look pretty good (sans-serif better than serif.)
You should start with a template from Photoshop (PAL it would sound like).
In CS2 you do not need to scale it because it sets it up up if you are not using the non-square pixel aspect ratio (the 720 x 576 template). If you are setting up otherwise the starting size is 768 x 576 and it should be rescaled to 720 x 576 without constraining proportions (Page 85 PDF)

  • Exporting PDF's from Photoshop - Low quality / messed up image in Acrobat

Hi guys, I am having this problem for quite some time now and i can't figure it out.
So i have created a portfolio design in Photoshop, and now i want to export that out of Photoshop into images / pdf  combining all the files into one PDF
The problem i have is that the output from Photoshop when it gets into Acrobat, has all kinds of artifacts and different (low) image quality.
I have used all the presets from the "save as pdf" menu in Photoshop as well as exporting as png's or jpegs and creating pdf from Acrobat.
Is this a rendering bug from Acrobat ? When i zoom enough, the problem disappears.
Should i use a specific option / preset when i export from Photoshop ?
    Thanks.

Try turning off Compression and Color Conversion when saving the PDF out of Photoshop.
