Referral concept in Replication

I have a doubt regarding the referrals:
When a request to modify a users account is sent to the Consumer, would that request be autmotaically referred to the Master and modification is done in the master so that client would not be required to make a second request to the master for the modification
(OR)
would the client be provided with the URL of the master for making the modification by the Consumer...In this case the client has to make another ldapmodify on the Master for the mddifcation...
From the docs, I Understood that the client will be only provided the URL of the Master but not the Modification would be referrd to the Master...am i getting it right??Help would be appreciated
regards

we have 6 LDAP Servers with 2 Masters and then 2 Consumers for each Master.....
We have the RA's defined between the Master1-Master2,
Master1-Consumer1& Master1-consumer2; Master2-Consumer3 & Master-2-Consumer4.
All the consumers have referral links of bot the Masters in the configuration...
The other day our Master-1 was down for some reason and at this time...the Consumer 1 and Consumer-2 were not referring to Master-2 even though they have referral link sof Master-2 defined in them along with Master-1..What is the reason for this??
Can it be because we have not setup the RA's between Master2-Consumer1 and Master2-Consumer2? is it mandatory that there need to be RA's between Master and Consumer for referral or else would the referral work if we just define the referral link in the advanced option without setting up the Replication Agreement?? please reply as this would help us to make the modification as the breakage had an considerable impact...

  • Is the concept of Replication redundant?

    Dear Experts
In today's s world do you think that replication would be required? given the fact that there is high speed connectivity 24/7 - why cant one just keep the database in the same place rather than replicate? I might be wrong but ....still have a doubt in my mind?
    Thanks
    Best Regards
    Manish

I believe multi-master (bi-directional) replication lost it's relevance. It brings more problems than it would potentially solve (recovery in the replicated geographically distributed environment, how do we do that [not only technically but from organizational/operations point of view])?
Uni-directional replication for reporting purposes - definitely yes (being it Data Guard Logical Standby, Oracle Streams when more comlex transformation rules are required).
DR - Data Guard Physical Standby (does not fit the "replication" category directly, but architects love to mix these categories) - yes, if your customer is willing to pay for that.

  • SOA HA Design

We are designing SOA for high availibility. My understaing is we will be doing active-active and need to install oracle AS, esb abd BPEL on both nodes. I am searching through Oracle docs and couldnt find whether hardware clustering is required or not? Can someone please help. The docs talk about AS clustering and referrs to Multicast Replication between nodes. My question is how this is acheived ?
    Edited by: user5475931 on Sep 17, 2008 3:18 PM

We wanted to use Oracle SOA 10.1.3.3.0 1 year ago in HA active-active mode and ended up running 2 isolated nodes with the same processes deployed due to high amount of bugs in cluster. Now with patches oracle releases more frequently than back then situation got better, but I think still not all bugs we discovered were fixed, therefore have a backup plan with 2 isolated nodes. Make sure you apply the latest MLR patch from metalink. I have MLR#12, but I think there is a newer one. Without at least MLR#12 using SOA in cluster is useless.
Oracle SOA also likes to download XSDs from the internet from time to time, so make sure you either deactivate it somehow or provide a local mirror.

  • Queries related to Replication concepts

    Hi,
I have following queries w.r.t. replications
    1) What is subscriber database and whta's the purpose of this.
    2) What' the difference between the Standby database and Subscriber database.
    3) if I have a standby database then why do we need subscriber database
    4) Can i have more then one standby database.
    Regards,
    Harmeet Kaur

The A/S pair concept goes as follows:
    - Two 'master' databases as a tightly coupled pair; at any moment one has the 'active' role and the other has the 'standby' role.
    - There can only ever be two master databases within the overall configuration
    - Updates are only allowed at the active, the standby is read only
    - Cache tables (if used) are present in both masters as actual cache groups
    - Cache autorefresh drives into the active master and is replicated to the standby, updates to AWT cache groups happen at the active and are replicated to the standby; the standby propagates them to Oracle
    - Role switch within the pair is easy and can be as a result of a failover or a managed switchover
    - The two masters must be on the same LAN or at least the same network with LAN characteristics and their system clocks must be aligned to within 250 ms
    - Replication between the masters can be asynchronous, return receipt (on request) or return twosafe (on request)
    - Subscribers are optional. You can have 0 to 128 of them.
    - Subscribers are always read only
    - Subscribers can reside on the same LAN as the masters or remotely (e.g. across a WAN)
    - Replication to the subscribers is always asynchronous
    - Cache tables (if used) are present on the subscribers as regular (non-cache) tables
    - While it is possible to convert a subscriber to a master this will mean that it is no longer part of this A/S pair setup. Thsi is usually only done in a DR scenario where a remote master is being used to instantiate a new A/S pair at the disaster recovery site.
I hope this clarifies the use of subscribers. They are primarily used for:
    1. Read scale out (reader farm)
    2. Simple DR
    3. Oracle/AWT DR (advanced use case)

  • How the transactional replication work for simple recovery database (looking for some internal concept)

How the transactional replication work for simple recovery database (looking for some internal concept)
    Rahul

There seems to be a new myth going around recently. I’ve had at least three people tell me, in the last month, that SQL’s transactional replication requires the database to be in full recovery.
This is complete fabrication. Replication (SQL native replication, that is) can work with the databases in any of the recovery models.
Transactional replication does involve the transaction log, as that’s where it picks up changes from. The log reader scans over the transaction log looking for log records marked for replication, copies those to the distribution database and then marks them
as replicated. When the checkpoint (for simple recovery) or log backup (for full or bulk logged) occur, the log will only be truncated up to the oldest inactive, replicated transaction.
Because transactional replication has its own way of ensuring log records aren’t discarded before been picked up by the log reader, there’s no requirement for a specific recovery model.

  • Is It Possible to Add a Fileserver to a DFS Replication Group Without Connectivity to FSMO Roles Holder DC But Connectivity to Site DC???

I apologize in advance for the rambling novella, but I tried to include as many details ahead of time as I could.
I guess like most issues, this one's been evolving for a while, it started out with us trying to add a new member
to a replication group that's on a subnet without connectivity to the FSMO roles holder. I'll try to describe the
layout as best as I can up front.
The AD only has one domain & both the forest & domain are at 2008R2 function level. We've got two sites defined in
Sites & Services, Site A is an off-site datacenter with one associated subnet & Site B with 6 associated subnets, A-F.
The two sites are connected by a WAN link from a cable provider. Subnets E & F at Site B have no connectivity to Site A
across that WAN, only what's available through the front side of the datacenter through the public Internet. The network
engineering group involved refuses to route that WAN traffic to those two subnets & we've got no recourse against that
decision; so I'm trying to find a way to accomplish this without that if possible.
The FSMO roles holder is located at Site A. I know that I can define a Site C, add Subnets E & F to that site, & then
configure an SMTP site link between Sites A & C, but that only handles AD replication, correct? That still wouldn't allow me, for example,
to enumerate DFS namespaces from subnets E & F, or to add a fileserver on either of those subnets as a member to an existing
DFS replication group, right? Also, root scalability is enabled on all the namespace shares.
Is there a way to accomplish both of these things without transferring the FSMO roles from the original DC at Site A to, say,
the bridgehead DC at Site B?
When the infrastructure was originally setup by a former analyst, the topology was much more simple & everything was left
under the Default First Site & no sites/subnets were setup until fairly recently to resolve authentication issues on
Subnets E & F... I bring this up just to say, the FSMO roles holder has held them throughout the build out & addition of
all sorts of systems & I'm honestly not sure what, if anything, the transfer of those roles will break.
I definitely don't claim to be an expert in any of this, I'll be the first to say that I'm a work-in-progress on this AD design stuff,
I'm all for R'ing the FM, but frankly I'm dragging bottom at this point in finding the right FM. I've been digging around
on Google, forums, & TechNet for the past week or so as this has evolved, but no resolution yet.
On VMs & machines on subnets E & F when I go to DFS Management -> Namespace -> Add Namespaces to Display..., none show up
automatically & when I click Show Namespaces, after a few seconds I get "The namespaces on DOMAIN cannot be enumerated. The
specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted". If I run a dfsutil /pktinfo, nothing shows except \sysvol
but I can access the domain-based DFS shares through Windows Explorer with the UNC path \\DOMAIN-FQDN\Share-Name then when
I run a dfsutil /pktinfo it shows all the shares that I've accessed so far.
So either I'm doing something wrong, or, for some random large, multinational company, every sunbet & fileserver one wants
to add to a DFS Namespace has to be able to contact the FSMO roles holder? Or, are those ADs broken down with a child domain
for each Site & a FSMO roles holder for that child domain is located in each site?

    Hi,
A DC in siteB should helpful. I still not see any article mentioned that a DFS client have to connect to PDC every time trying to access a DFS domain based namespace.
Please see following article. I pasted a part of it below:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc782417(v=ws.10).aspx
Domain controllers play numerous roles in DFS:
Domain controllers store DFS metadata in Active Directory about domain-based namespaces. DFS metadata consists of information about entire namespace, including the root, root targets, links, link targets, and settings. By default, root servers
that host domain-based namespaces periodically poll the domain controller acting as the primary domain controller (PDC) emulator master to obtain an updated version of the DFS metadata and store this metadata in memory.
So Other DC needs to connect PDC for an updated metadata.
Whenever an administrator makes a change to a domain-based namespace, the
change is made on the domain controller acting as the PDC emulator master and is then replicated (via Active Directory replication) to other domain controllers in the domain.
    Domain Name Referral Cache
A domain name referral contains the NetBIOS and DNS names of the local domain, all trusted domains in the forest, and domains in trusted forests. A
DFS client requests a domain name referral from a domain controller to determine the domains in which the clients can access domain-based namespaces.
    Domain Controller Referral Cache
A domain controller referral contains the NetBIOS and DNS names of the domain controllers for the list of domains it has cached. A DFS client requests a domain controller referral from a domain controller (in the client’s domain)
to determine which domain controllers can provide a referral for a domain-based namespace.
    Domain-based Root Referral Cache
The domain-based root referrals in this memory cache do not store targets in any particular order. The targets are sorted according to the target selection method only when requested from the client. Also, these referrals are based on DFS metadata stored
on the local domain controller, not the PDC emulator master.
Thus it seems to be acceptable to have a disconnect between sites shortly when cache is still working on siteB.

  • TCRMBP_REFCUST --- Replication of BPs from CRM to ECC

    Hi -
We have a CRM - ECC (SD / ISU) environment.
    I have a question about TCRMBP_REFCUST table.
    1. How exactly is this table used? Is this table used when replicating the CRM BP into ECC?
    2. This table seems to give me a better control over the sales area I want for the replicated partner in SD? But, I am confused about using this table and using the PIDE table (CRM -> R3) as they both control the Account Group for the SD Customer.
    3. So, can somebody please give more explanation on how the TCRMBP_REFCUST & the PIDE table (CRM -> R3) play together in this replication process?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    Pradhip.S

    Hi Pradhip,
Perfect, lets visit SAP documentation again - [Business Partner Replication|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_crmscen70/helpdata/en/60/85b5d333f4174b8e982c1c15db35f3/frameset.htm].
In 1st few paragraphs, it describes about "concept of the business partner or SD customer in SAP ERP" - which is as follows:
When creating or changing a business partner with the role Sales Prospect or Contract Partner, you can specify a sample customer (SD customer) in SAP ERP. This creates an SD customer for the business partner with the same number as the business partner. Data is copied from the sample customer (tables KNA1, KNB1, KNVV, KNVP, KNVA, KNVI, KNVD, KNEX, KNVS and KNVL). Name and address data, as well as some additional fields, are transferred from the business partner. If the SD customer already exists, the system only transfers part of the data from the sample customer (only the sales and distribution areas that do not yet exist).
Above settings is maintained at SAP Utilities->Master Data->Business Partner->Settings for Creating Standard Customers->Maintain Parameter (Table - TEKND).
    (*Back to SAP documentation*)
If you now connect a CRM system, the central data from the CRM business partner is exchanged with the business partner in SAP ERP, and the CRM-specific data is exchanged with the SD customer. The CRM business partner has the same number as the business partner in SAP ERP and the SD customer.
You work mainly with the BUPA_MAIN queue. You only work with the CUSTOMER_MAIN queue when you are changing SD customer data, such as sales area data.
To execute the business partner concept specific to the utilities industry, you must convert the following control tables....
So, since CRM is in place which will act as central data management, we need to maintain reference customer values in CRM specific tables in ECC.. where table TCRMBP_REFCUST will be useful. This table is accessed by function module - COM_BUPA_MWX_MAP_ISU (Mapping - Proxy-BAPI Business Partner Main-BDOC).
Now if we read following statments on table TCRMBP_REFCUST, it will make sense:
    (*Back to SAP documentation*)
Sample Customers in the Delta Upload
You can store sample customers in the ERP table TCRMBP_REFCUST (transaction SE16). These sample customers are used when creating a business partner in SAP CRM. This means that less data is transferred than when creating an R/3 business partner (ERP tables KNVD, KNB1, KNEX, KNVS and KNVL; transaction SE16).
In table TCRMBP_REFCUST, the system searches generically for a sample customer:
First it searches by Category, Grouping, and Type, then by Category and Grouping (with Type = SPACE), then only by Category (with Grouping and Type = SPACE), and finally with all three key fields as SPACE.
    Initial Download
Before performing the initial download, check whether an SD customer has been created for all business partners in SAP ERP, for which this is desired or necessary. (For example, to an SD customer is necessary to use the billing engine in SAP CRM).
You should also check whether business partners already exist for all SD customers. Business partner creation for SD customers is supported by tools (for example, during the SAP for Utilities implementation). In the scenario described, you must not directly create any SD customers (except sample customers), as you are not replicating anything in SAP CRM.
Please let me know if this was helpful.
    Regards,
    Avinash

  • BP replication from CRM 7.0 to ERP 6.0

    Hello.
I was made customizing replication BUPA_MAIN object from CRM 7.0 to ERP as of Best Practics.
When i creating a BP in CRM it's replicating in ERP as Customer only, not as BP.
What I need to customize that BP is created during replicating from CRM?
    Thanks

    Hi All,
I am also replicating customer master data from CRM-ECC. I am creating BP as Sold-to-party (STP) role and mapping that to a Z-Acc Group (copy of std. STP in ECC).
One thing I want to clarify from you all is that in our case,
In ECC, Recon Acc Field in Co. Code data is mandatory, but in CRM there is no concept of Co. Code.
How do we handle such a scenario, because in this case there will be error of mandatory fields not matching on both sides.
Please share your experiences or solutions for such a scenario.
In addition to this, for tackling this issue,
We created an enhancement on ECC side, to take care of this but while replicating BP's from CRM to ECC, there was en error "No batch input for screen SAPMF02D 100".
When we raised this issue to SAP, their reply was as follows:
    1. There are various problems, but the main is probably that we reach the CALL TRANSACTION statement
with FT[] empty. I have skipped the "ENHANCEMENT 24 ZCRM3" which has been added at the
end of function module DEBITOR_BDCDATA and then FT[] was populated.
    Then i faced several missing data regarding the mandatory fields;
first one was missing country in the address.
    ==============
    2. The root cause is in the "ENHANCEMENT 24 ZCRM3" which is at the end of FM DEBITOR_BDCDATA.
This enhancement is a custom development from your side.
It first clears IBDCDATA[] and fails to rebuild it because the conditionIF FT-FVAL = '0001'. is NOT fulfilled. (here FT-FVAL = 'Z001') Consequently, the internal table FT[] is later cleared which makes that the call transaction XD01 is executed with no data at all.
    ===============
If we skip the enhancement, there will always be an error for mandatory fields.
Please share your experiences on such an issue.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Exchange 2010 DAG netowrk replications issues - Causing database copies to be disconnected and resynchronizing.

The dag is configured to to communicate to all three.<o:p></o:p>

(These are not the actual address, but the concept is similar)<o:p></o:p>
The dag network configuration is as follows.<o:p></o:p>
DAGNetworkDR has a subnet of 192.170.100.0/24; Network Interface of 192.170.100.51<o:p></o:p>
DAGNetwork01 (LAN) has a subnet of 192.168.100.0/24; Network Interfaces of 192.168.100.51

    160.100.3.51 and 160.100.3.52<o:p></o:p>
    Last Friday, 3/7/14 something happened.<o:p></o:p>
To lead up to that, I noticed the issue because we have DPM 2010 making 15minute express
full backups of our exchange databases when I reviewed the backup jobs, the
exchange database backups using dpm2010 failed all weekend long starting at
    11:00pm that Friday.<o:p></o:p>
The issue that occurred was that the database copies went to a status of Disconnected and
Resynchronizing, and after about 30 seconds, the status would show
    Resynchronizing.<o:p></o:p>
All attempts to resolve this with the research methods failed.  Deleting the
logs and reseeding failed, suspending, then rebuilding failed.<o:p></o:p>
Creating a new database worked, creating a database copy worked, but seeding the copy
failed. All with the same pattern, a status of Disconnected and
Resynchronizing, and after about 30 seconds, and the status would show
    Resynchronizing.<o:p></o:p>
The database was mounted on EX2, and seeding to EX1
    DREX1 has no issues.<o:p></o:p>
All the DAG networks were in a good status, all Green and all up.  I could ping from
    EX1 to EX2 and from EX2 to EX1 on both networks fine.<o:p></o:p>
In the middle of the week, about 3/12/14, we resolved the issue. We rebooted EX1, no
fix, but after rebooting EX2, it all resolved.  It did a fail over to DREX1. I think it failed to do the failover to EX1. However, when it came back up, it was happy, it was reseeding slowly. After about an hour and a half, it
    was all healthy.<o:p></o:p>
We thought it was all good EXCEPT, on Friday night at 11:00pmish on 3/14/14, the same
issue occurred; a status of Disconnected and Resynchronizing, and after about
30 seconds, the status would show Resynchronizing.<o:p></o:p>
The database was mounted on EX2 and seeding to EX1 again. I did not notice the
issue until I performed my review of the backup jobs again on Monday.<o:p></o:p>
Late Monday morning, my boss and I were looking at more articles, but all the same results,
delete the database copy and reseed. Which we knew would not work.<o:p></o:p>
I mentioned that it was strange because the networks were all up. What made us try the next
scenarios was just "luck" I guess. I made a statement about not remembering
which networks DAG replication took place over.  Again, we have a LAN and
a BACKUP network.  Bother were listed to use replication, so we decided to
disable replication over the BACKUP network in the EMC. Immediately, the
database copies switch to healthy and started seeding.<o:p></o:p>
Later that evening I enabled replication over the BACKUP network and it failed again with
a status of Disconnected and Resynchronizing, and after about 30 seconds, the
status would show Resynchronizing.  I disabled the replication over the
BACKUP network and the database copy went back to healthy<o:p></o:p>
The last round of windows updates were pushed to these boxes the Friday before the
issues began, 2/28/14.  I don't believe the updates to be the issue. <o:p></o:p>
Can anyone make any suggestions as to where to look?  It worked with the BACKUP
network enabled to so long that is eluding me as to why the issues would start
all of a sudden. I am also confident that the switch configuration for the
BACKUP network has not been changed at all in at least 2-3 months.  I am
still open to look at the config. Please help if you can.<o:p></o:p>
     <o:p></o:p>
Lastly, this is more of a monitoring thing, if anyone can suggest a good way to monitor
the database copies so that I can be alerted when the status changes.  We
use WhatsUpGold 16.2 to monitor the devices.  <o:p></o:p>
    Thanks for any future assistance.<o:p></o:p>

You don't have to enable the Replication on Backup Network.
You should collapse your DAG network.

  • Openldap referral to DS 5.2?

My dept is deploying Sendmail Advanced Messaging Server (SAMS). It stores its user preferences and the userid and password in its own supplied openldap. How can I get openldap to use our DS 5.2 for user authentication? Instead of mirroring userids and password in the openldap I would like it to refer to the DS for uid and userpassword. Is there some way to do a referral?

I dont think its possible. I have set up ds5.2 for
replication. It IS possible. That does not mean it is straightforward though. But it isn't too hard either.
Thats ok. And yes, I cant see ds5.2 in
the dscc. So if I cant see the ds5.2 in dscc how am I
supposed to set up a replication agreement for ds6 to
    ds5.2? use dsconf
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-0995/6n3cq3au5?a=view might help but you'll need to dig more in the documentation
Thats how I understand multi master
    replication.
You have to create agreements in both
servers, and use one to initialize the other. Maybe
you mean I need to use ds6 command line tools to set
up replication.that's right, CLI is the only way to go for that particular configuration.
Replication has been tested between the two versions.

  • Nsslapd-state automatically switching from backend to referral on update

    Hello,
I recently separated 4 instances of DS5.2 which used to be on the same machine on 2 different servers (one master & one slave by server).
The first master is working well (including replication on all 3 other instance) but the second master always switch is state (nsslapd-state) from 'backend' to 'referral on update' and never replicate on other LDAP's instances.
I first think of a backend's data problem and try to copy backends from the first master to the second (with binary copy, ldif2db, bak2db, ...) but wihtout any result.
Then I delete my replication agreement and recreate them but without anymore result.
    I don't understand why it isn't working (and the 2 servers are binding each other because the first master's replication works well);
    Please help me !!!!!
    Julien

There is one button which is available on the right pane after master is initialized, under:
    "Data" -> "sufix dc=XYZ,dc=com" -> "Replication"
I don't remember the name on the button but it is someting like "start accepting updates".
Read the following two topics at
    http://docs.sun.com/source/816-6698-10/replicat.html#14962
    * Convergence After Multi-Master Initialization
    * To Begin Accepting Updates Through the Console
To Begin Accepting Updates Through the Console
Follow these steps to explicitly allow update operations after the initialization of a multi-master replica:
On the top-level Configuration tab of the Directory Server console, expand both the Data node and the node for the replicated suffix, and select the Replication node below the suffix.
In the right panel, the console will display a message indicating that the replica has been initialized and is currently returning referrals for update operations. If this message indicates the automatic referral delay is enabled, you may still follow this procedure to override the delay.
Use the insync tool to ensure that the replica has converged with all other masters. Replicas are in sync if the delay between modifications on all servers is zero or if the replica has never had any changes to replicate (delay of -1). For more information, see "insync" in Chapter 1 of the Sun ONE Directory Server Reference Manual.
Click the button to the right of the message to start accepting update operations immediately.

  • ONLINE DATA REPLICATION ONE DATABASE TO ANOTHER IN ORACLE 9.2.0.1

    I have used Oracle 9.2.0.1 version. I have created two database(ORCL, ORCL2).
in my PC. I have created INV user in both database. Currenly I have worked on INV user which is in ORCL database. Is there any technique in Oracle 9.2.0.1 online data replication from One database to another. i.e. If at any point of time my ORCL database is damaged my INV user has been recovered in ORCL2 database.

What do you mean by 'Online Data replication'? Do you mean the Oracle Advanced Replication or do you mean the Oracle Dataguard?

  • Database in Referral  Mode

One of my databases is "stuck" in referral mode. When I set it through the console to accept reads and writes a few minutes later it reverts back to referral mode. Her is the message from the error log:
    [13/Apr/2005:10:10:09 -0400] - WARNING<10265> - Replication - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - Configuration warning This server will be referring client updates for replica l=emea,ou=internal,ou=people,dc=pwcglobal,dc=com indefinitely
The is a version 5.2 server service pack 2 on Solaris 8.

    Hello,
First try by deleting the replication agreements and all the refferals on all your servers.
If it doesn't work disable replication, make sure that the changelog.db are deleted, and recreate.
    Have a nice day
