Reflecting Images in FCP

Is there a way to add a Reflection effect to a picture (still image) in FCP like there is in Keynote and Pages?
Thanks

I see how that works...thanks. Is there a way to make a softer reflection? I really like the one in Pages and Keynote. It adds a small gap between the image and the reflection. It also only shows less than the first 1/3 of the reflection as opposed to 100% of the reflection. Almost as if the image is sitting on a highly polished floor.
Can that be done? I know I could screen capture the image with the effect straight out of Pages, but this will be very time consuming with nearly 100 photos....

  • Is there a way to edit each frame as an Image in FCP

    Hello Folks,
Just wondering how can I edit each frame as an image in FCP pro... let's say my cam shoots @ 24fps and I import that to FCP, well how can I import these 24frames into a photo editing program such as PhotoShop so I edit each frame and color correct and stuff like that? Also how would I bring it back each frame to FCP?
What is this process called? Frame editing? I'm not familiar with this because I was told it is duable, i know in Adobe Premier the frames export to a folder where you can edit each image in watever program you want and bring them back to adobe.
So how can I do this in FCP?
    Appreciate your great help,
    Joey Dee

    just for clarity:
whilst there is indeed a direct Export option, there is no direct Import option. For Export: use FCP's File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion.. >> Image Sequence option
For Import you can first use Quicktime Player's File > Open Image Sequence... option, and export it out to the codec of the original clip/sequence using the File > Export... option. After that you can then import that clip back into FCP.
its worth noting that this is not "roundtripping", there is no invisible link between the exported frames and the master clip/sequence

  • Exporting image from FCP 16.9

i am exporting still images from FCP and they are sqooshed , they look more like 4.3 aspect ratio. i know I converted them to 16.9 on the desktop with preview, but i can't reproduce that...any ideas, I don't want to get graphic converter, it's just a few shots.

Open them in QT Player 7 then select Window>Show Movie Properties>Video Track.
Change Scaled Size to the correct figures, deselect Preserve Aspect Ratio and hit return.

  • Reveresing black and white still Photoshop image in FCP?

is it possible to reverse the black and white of a still photoshop image within FCP? then remove the background apart from the letters?
need to get a black and white company logo into FCP for use in the credits of this programme - due to a graphic designer being away i've had to scan the image off letterhead! very backwards and not ideal I know - but its a bit of a emergency so any pointer very much appreciated...

Drag and drop your image from the viewer to the timeline, lets say in V2.
Right click the logo clip>go to composite mode>select screen.
That's it. You now have the white text with no black background and whatever is in V1 replaces the black.

  • URGENT. HOW TO IMPORT MP4 FULL HD IMAGES TO FCP TIMELINE

HOW TO IMPORT MP4 FULL HD IMAGES TO FCP TIMELINE WITHOUT HAVING TO RENDER.

    Stop shouting.
You can't use MPEG4 in Final Cut Pro without lots of hassle.
They need to be converted to one of the editing codecs found in Final Cut Pro's Easy Setup menu.
What is the source of your footage and which version of FCP are you using?
What model Mac, with which version of Mac OS X?

  • Using still image in FCP and Motion

I'm using still images in Motion (and FCP) and exporting them to Quicktime movie files. What's the best size and resolution for the images and are JPGs or TIF best? I'm exporting for 720 X 480, and currently my JPGs are 4 x 6 at 300 dpi with a pixel width and height of 1312 x 2000. I'm adding some behaviors to the images in Motion (motion paths and shrink/grow).
My FCP project is setup as a DV NTSC 48kHz, 720 x 480, editing timebase=59.94, timecode Rate=same as editing timebase, compressor-DV/DVPRO-NTSC, quality 100%.
When I export to Quicktime the movies are very low quality--lots of noise and moire pattern etc.
How do I get the best qualtiy using still images? Is it my FPS setting, image pixel size, compressor setting? Also, do the movies need to be deinterlaced?
The preview in the FCP browser and canvas looks a little better but I do notice noise (moire patterns) along the sharp edges of the still images.
I've seen QT movies of these very same images (done by someone else who is no longer around) and they are much better quality.
Does anyone have an appropriate workflow for this type of project? The final movies are to be shown on a flatscreen monitor from a local computer, so the file sizes can be relatively large (300mb).
I can post an example of he movie files if that might help.
    Thanks.

David, your a genius!!! You posted your reply on my birthday, and I missed it until today!
Fotomagico is devastatingly easy to use and absolutely makes me want to cry at the amount of time I wasted creating photo slideshows in FCP!
I opened Fotomagico up and created a slideshow, one that I had already created in FCP and had take me FIVE HOURS to create... in TEN MINUTES!!!!!!!!! Aaaaaaaaah.
I couldn't believe it. I thought there had to be a catch or something. This was too easy the quality can't be there... but it was. It's amazing and I can't thank you enough for all the future hours you have saved for me.

  • Images in FCP X 10.0.8 - blurry on full screen playback

I'm trying to create a documentary of around 30 mins using both photos (Ken Burns effect) and video clips.  Settings are as follows:
I have around about 580 photos all cropped in PS6 to 1700 x 900 px.  Won't be using many of them but have them imported just in case.  The video clips show beautifully on full screen preview, however, the photos are blurred and jagged.  When I tap the space bar and freeze the image, however, they preview just fine.  I have only created around 6 mins at this stage so I tried making a DVD of that portion and there was no problem with the photos showing sharply as they should.  This is rather discerting to say the least and I am a little hesitant to continue until I get some professional advice.  Is this a problem with something I have or have not done in cropping/resizing the images (they are all around about 5 mbs and many taken from CR2 files) or is this a problem with this version of FCP X 10.0.8?  Has anybody else experienced this problem?  And since the 6 mins rendered and created a final DVD without any problem should I just proceed as is?  Finally, I am using a MacBook Pro 15in - now 2 years old if that should make any difference.
    Thanking you,

Thank you so very, very much. Changing that preference solved the problem.  What a relief.

  • Resizing of images after FCP update not working. When I try to resize, It resizes a blank transparent image.

I am having trouble resizing images after I installed the FCP update. When I press the transform button, and then click on teh image, I go to the little blue dots on the side of the image that usually resize the image, and when I drag them out, instead of the image resizing, a black trasparent rectangle the same size as the photo expands outward to my desired size. This has happened to me before the update when trying to resize text, but the problem usually fixed itself once I clicked again on the text line in the editing section.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Russ,
It doesn't work that way either, however it's okay because I solved the problem. Turns out I had to select 'add keyframe' on either the 'crop' or 'distort' tabs and it fixes itself. No idea why but the problem is solved! Thanks for your help anyhow.

  • Need help reflecting image symmetrically

I've tried looking through the help files but can't find it, and I bought Barbara Brundage's book on Photo Shop Elements 6 for Mac, and still can't find it.
It has got to be SOMEwhere.
I have a jpeg that I'd like to erase the right hand side of the picture (as with the Eraser tool), and then fold the picture in half, so the right half is the mirror reflection of the left half. (The result would look a little bit like a rorschach blot test, but with perfect symmetry.)
Can anybody tell me how to go about doing that?
And is there a way of changing the axis of symmetry so it lies on a diagonal, instead of going in a horizontal or vertical direction?
If it is in Barbara's book, what page would it be on?
    HELP!
    Matthew

    Matthew,
To answer your first question, use the Rectangular Marquee tool to select the left half, and copy/paste it to a new layer. Go into Image>Rotate and flip the new layer horizontally. Activate the Move tool and use the arrow keys to move the new layer to the right half.

  • Problem with strobe image in FCP

    Hi,
I am currently editing with footage that uses strobe lighting on the subject. At times, I cannot view the strobe image as it can’t seem to handle displaying one frame of picture, as this is the amount of time that the strobe lights for. I tried to export as Quicktime, and when viewing the clip outside of final cut, it is fine, but when re-importing the exported clip, it gave the same error. But, when exporting is using different settings as to it's native format (HDV) it displayed the image perfectly, and when viewing in final cut it viewed perfectly. When the image drops out, there is a remnance of it at the very top of the frame, where you can see a line of colour, this is a very partial section of the actual image displaying. So it seems it just drops out the image from about 2 or 3 pixels down, leaving a flashing line above.
I am using Final Cut 6.0.5 on:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac7,3
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 2.5 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 5 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.25 GHz
If anyone has any advice. It would be very helpful. I know I could export everything to a slightly different format to fix it, but woul rather find out the problem within final cut...
    THANKS!!!!!!!
    Ian

I assumed it was final cut due to the footage showing the strobe on the image when exported out of FCP. Also, i can see it is reading the strobe as there is a line at the top of the frame which is residue of the strobe flash,< </div>
Your strobe has a burst of light energy that lasts 1/10,000 of a second and may fire two or three times each second.
Your camera's shutter is open once a second for 1/50th of a second. What are the chances those two events will happen at the same time? it can be graphed but it's probably not more than once every ten to 100 pulses of the strobe.
Your "residue" is not discernible as a lighting artifact, looks like electrical noise from the spark of the strobe tube. But it could be the interline overload on the sensor being dumped by the processor.

  • Disc Images to FCP?

If I have a disc image of a movie, can I create a Quicktime movie from that to edit in FCP? Thanks.

    DH,
Thank you. The disc image is a DVD-Video. I downloaded MPEG Streamclip (again, thank you), but what does 'demux' mean? And what sequence settings should I have in FCP to make sure they match? Thanks!

  • "Blurring an image" in FCP.

    Hello,
In a recent short movie I shot, an image of a commercial product appears on our set. I need to "blur" this image out of the video for copyright purposes. Is there an easy way to this using FCP, e.g., Motion or LiveType, for instance?
    Gary

Duplicate the clip you need to blur a part of and place it directly above the original in your timeline. Then add a garbage matte to it in FCP... blur the lower clip with a gaussian blur or other blur, and then use the garbage matte to cut in only what you want to be seen with the blur... if the shot moves, you can move the points of the garbage matte to move with the shot.

  • Which color space to save still images for FCP?

When saving still images as TIFF files to be brought into FCP, what color space should the files be saved in? The Adobe color space or SRGB, or other?
    Thanks.

sRGB/JPEG is the best because all the color information is encoded in the actual image when you create a JPEG, as JPEGs don't carry color space information with them, like .PSD and .TIFF do.
As for sRGB, that is as close as there is to a universal color space for monitors, and you are least likely to find a surprise when you check across many monitors. The tradeoff is a reduced color gamut if you display on a well calibrated broad gamut monitor.
The gamma matters all the way through, if you want what you see in Photoshop to match what you see on a calibrated display monitor. The newest Photoshop, and Lightroom, use a native gamma of 2.2, which matches all video displays (not computer displays). If you generate JPEGs from them, they will have a gamma of 2.2. You then need to import them into FCP with a gamma of 2.2 for the interpretation. If you go directly to DVD from there, all is fine. If you go to a Quicktime movie, you need to know what the codec you plan to use will do. ProRes maintains the existing gamma, H.264 lightens up to 1.8, as does animation. I haven't characterized the others.

  • Working with still images in FCP X

Is there a easy way to work with pictures in FCP X? Yes, I know it's built for editing video, but I use to rack up hundreds of pictures in FCP 7 to create DVD and CD-ROM slideshows for my job and it worked great. I could overlay custom titles and graphics that I built in Motion and had great success. However, X takes forever to process images and is so slow. Any advice??

  • How to apply a "motion" effect to an entire group of images in FCP

I have Final Cut Studio and I'm creating a time-lapse video right now out of about 3,000 high-resolution JPEG images. I've figured out how to import them in to my bin at a default length of 1 frame per image and then drag them in to the timeline (30 images per second).
I now need to make them all larger by about 60% (they automatically imported into the timeline at 45%). I also need to readjust their "center" location and "rotation" throughout the video as the camera was running for several months and got bumped here and there. So I need to zoom in (to create a buffer on the border of the images) and then rotate, tilt, and pan the frame in various places until the video is nice and smooth and consistent throughout.
My question is, how do I apply motion effects to the entire track or to hundreds of images in one shot? I'll die of old age if I have to manually apply, re-apply, and re-re-apply the settings to 3000 individual images. I've been searching for an answer to this for a while but haven't found any articles so I thought I'd post it as a question.
Any ideas would be HUGELY appreciated!
    Thanks

Wow, thank you everyone for giving me so many ideas.
Tom, I never knew about the "Paste Attributes" button... and I've been using FCP for 4 years, how embarrassing. But dang, what a COOL feature! I'll be using that a lot in the future.
Kevin, this Nest feature is PERFECT! That was literally what I was looking for really (a way to keep the image high quality as I zoom in and tinker and what not).
David, the images are 1600 X 1200 @ 180 DPI. That was actually one of the lower settings in GbTimelapse, but as long as I can use the padding to crop and zoom, I'm happy. Thanks for the info though.
And Andy, thanks for the tip about Motion. Normally I only use Motion for titles but I know I really should play with it more as I'm aware of it's ability to do so much more than that.
Thanks again to everyone. Seriously, 10 minutes after I asked this question and I had 3 different, REALLY good solutions to a problem that I thought would be incredibly hard to solve, haha
    Cheers guys,
    Chris
