Reflection on a shape

Hello all. I am facing a problem that I have never seen in my experience with Photoshop before. When I place a shape on top of a back ground I get a reflection of sorts that I cannot get to go away. It seems to only happen when the shape color is white (which is what I need the color to be for this project). Can someone please help.

As you can see, the reflections show up on the right side of each rectangle. I haven't changed any settings since installation and haven't seen this issue until this particular project.

  • Reflection for a shape tween..how ?

    Hi
    Flash CS5
    I have created reflections so far for MovieClips which are just static png images within the MC, as the MC travels across stage, the reflection travels with it.
    I also have an MC of a human standing which, within the MC, it starts as a png, then I have traced that as shapes each with a matching colour fill, I shape tween each of those shapes to become the shape of the ending png (human fallen down) then that png continues to show for the duration of MC timeline.
    There are 12 shapes that each tween. (legs , feet etc)
    This MC also travels across stage a short distance.
    Ideally I need reflections for each of the 29 frames during the fall, either of the combined shapes per frame, or of each of the 12 shapes per frame. The latter would mean a lot of MC's !...as it takes two MC's per subject reflection and some code to make a reflection. (maths 12 x 2 x 29 = 696 MC's !)...impractical !
    Method of reflection is a reduced height png is MC'd with e.g. MC and instance name SideView and also a graduated colour rectangle black/white matching this shape is placed over this and MC'd with e.g. MC name and instance name of SideViewMask_mc with white nearest subject, white alpha 30% black 0% my chosen transparency. Then coded.
    SideView.cacheAsBitmap=true;
    SideViewMask_mc.cacheAsBitmap=true;
    SideView.mask=SideViewMask_mc
    How can I make my reflection for the shape tween ?
    I wondered if for the speed of the fall I could just have reflection MC set for him upright and a reflection MC set for him fallen and Classic Tween those ?...or could the combined shape seen by the human eye per frame be given reflection. Thats still 29 frames each with a different shape.

    try it.
    i'm not sure what your figure is doing but, if your movieclip's bitmap representation is changing (ie, it's not just moving horizontally/vertically), you'll probably need to update the reflection repeatedly until the bitmap no longer changes.

  • Chrome or reflective finish... how ?

    Hi,
    I have what can best be described as many light grey sausages sitting side by side, I want them to represent sausages made of aluminium,
    Is there a quick way of getting them chromed up ?
    I have used bevel and emboss to get the original light grey flat sausage shapes looking like 3D sausages, needing to have alternate sausages on alternate layers else the bevel/emboss does odd things to their abutting edges...... but the light grey is not giving me that reflectance I need.
    Envirographics

    Noel, thanks...I experimented with those settings and it certainly was better than dead light grey. Its when one wants to move say a highlight or expand and whiten it more that it gets frustrating as to just what to tweak in the settings, the graph thingy was yielding three fine stripes, I simplified the peaks and got nothing well defined, one has to fiddle and sometimes you get near then start to lose it again !
    What did you use for the brushed metal effect on the flat 2D shapes ?
    I have my 'sausages' abutting and at 45 degrees, but I also have some angled differently and I am going to have to apply the effect separately as they look 'muddled'. Wishful thinking but if only there was a way of the filter to identify orientation of artwork to give the correct reflection !
    I added a light blue colouring using the colour overlay tick option in bevel/emboss as I reckoned I should see some sky either side of my harsh white highlight streak but it made the highlight streak blue, try as I might I couldnt get the blue either side of the highlight streak and high up  with that highlight streak as white. I wanted it reflecting the colour of the base in the lower slopes of the sausage as would happen but also couldnt get it to do so.
    If there was a way of choosing an upper reflection colour, a lower reflection colour and a highlight width that would do me, usually/traditionally for chrome airbrush artwork these would be blue, brown/green.
    It certainly is an improvement on flat grey though !
    JJMack, thanks for the advice, I think that artwork shown would benefit if the reflections followed the shape as would reflections on something of 3D body, has it that abilty ? the lettering looks like flat shet with mild surface twisting. I shall explore the suggestion further.

  • Transform Keeping endpoints of old shape

    I'm new to Illustrator coming from Corel draw.
    I'm creating an open shape, copying that open shape, rotating the new shape and trying to join the two shapes.
    1) When I rotate the new shape, the bounding box displays the outline (shaded) of the shape BEFORE I rotated it. How do I get rid of this shaded outline and have the bounding box reflect the new shape? I've tried Object->Transform->Reset Bounding Box, but it does nothing.
    2) When I join the two shapes (I group the two shapes, then select the endpoint using the "group select" tool under the "direct select" tool), it creates a closed shape from the end of the shape 2 to the beginning of shape 1.
    What am I doing wrong?

    I can't duplicate what you describe. The bounding box displays the new position for me. There are several ways to rotate objects in AI. The "old school" method is to use the "rotate" tool. This method allows you to set the center of rotation by clicking anywhere in the file, before rotating the object. I prefer to use it with "Bounding Box" turned OFF. You might want to try this method.
    >2) When I join the two shapes (I group the two shapes, then select the endpoint using the "group select" tool under the "direct select" tool), it creates a closed shape from the end of the shape 2 to the beginning of shape 1.
    You should use the "Direct select" tool (hollow arrow) to select only the endpoints you want joined. It is easiest to drag across the two endpoints with the direct select tool. This will select then in one step. Then you can choose "join" or type "Cmd-J".

  • PE7 Edit functions Not Working well after Upgrading from Vista to Windows 7

    My PE 7 was working very well under Vista Home Premium - 64 Bit. But after I upgraded (not clean install) to Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 Bit, it appears that the PE7 is working OK except for the EDIT functions.
    I am talking about the Tool Icons on the left side. When I select any icon, the Mouse Curser does NOT chnage to reflect the proper shape. For example, when I click the Crop Tool, my mouse curser chnages to 3 little (tiny) crop icons in a row, and the crop functions don't work like they should.
    Can anyone please help as to waht I need to do to correct this situation.
    Thank you.

    Over at elements village there are a couple threads about this
    on windows 7.
    I have never had this problem, but other users say the solution

  • How to best change shoulder shape with pen tool: cut graphic in half and reflect?

    Hi,
    I'm working with a .eps file of a mannequin. I need to make the shoulders more square and more rounded to show variations on body type. I'm not an illustrator whiz, but I thought that it would be best to slice the graphic down the middle, alter one shoulder, and then reflect it so that they are even. But how do I do cut it in half?
    I've been playing with the convert anchor point tool to change the should shape and while it works, it's very hard for me to replicate the exact same effect on the opposite side. I've uploaded the file so that you can see what I'm talking about. If anyone could suggest the best route, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!

    For the scissors, you need to insert extra anchor points at the cutting point.
    It is not necessary to insert an anchorPoint before cutting a segment with the Scissor.
    Also, assuming we're talking about closed or filled path(s) here:
    1. Knife Tool.
    2. Press and hold Alt.
    3. Drag the Knife all the way across the Path(s). Add Shift to constrain to vertical/horizontal/45 diagonal angles.
    If the paths are open and unfilled, the Knife tool is useless. It also does not abide by SmartGuides. (Illustrator has three cutting tools and they are all pathetic.)

  • How to Trim Rectangle with text to create reflection?

    Hello Everyone,
    I am realtively new to Illustrator and I am facing a problem that I am hoping some expert here can resolve. I have some text and I have converted it to outlines. Now I want to create shine on it. I want to fill a rectangle with white color and then clip it with text to give reflection effect but I can't figure out how to do it. I have selected my text and rectangle and tried all options in path finder tool but nothing seems to work. Please guide me how can this be done.
    Regards,
    Afraz Ali

    Afraz Ali,
    If you want to have the colour/colours/colour transition of the rectangle where the text is is nothing outside it, in other words colour the text with the colouring of the rectangle, you may:
    Use Live Type over the rectangle, select both, and Object>Clipping Mask>Make.
    With outlined type, you have to turn the lettershapes into a Compound Shape first.
    As you can see, it is simpler to just use Live Type, and it is editable.

  • Combining Line Segments into a single shape

    I drew one half of a shape by drawing multiple line segments using the arc tool. Think of the shape as sort of a C. Once I had the shape the way I wanted it, I copied and reflected it to give me the other half, so now it looks sort of like an O. However, when I go to fill the shape, I get all sort of weird fills, like it is trying to close each of the individual arcs that I drew.
    I have spent over an hour going through Illustrators help and searching the internet, but I can't figure out how to join all these line segments into a single shape that I can then apply a fill to. I'm sure this is easy, but I'm frustrated.
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Thanks Kurt. That did it. My gosh, I would never have thought of looking for something like that. I upgrade to CS3 sometime ago, but hadn't used illustrator much since I upgraded.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Marker shape not showing up in DVT line graph

    Hi,
    I am facing an issue where the Marker Shape is not getting displayed in DVT Line graph. In the graph there is only one series, in which diamond markers should appear at the data points.
    I am using Jdev 11.1.1.7.0.
    Below is the expected result and the result which i am actually getting. Although the data set is different, the diamonds which we see in the first graph are not appearing in the second one(my output).
    My code snippet for the line graph is as below:
    <dvt:lineGraph id="lineGraph1"
                           value="#{bindings.VarianceGraphVO1.graphModel}"
                           subType="LINE_VERT_ABS" shortDesc="Variance Graph">
              <dvt:graphTitle text="Schedule Variance"/>
              <dvt:y1Title id="y1Title1" text="Variance % Days"/>
              <dvt:o1Title id="o1Title1" text="Cemli"/>
              <dvt:background>
                <dvt:specialEffects/>
              </dvt:background>
              <dvt:graphPlotArea/>
              <dvt:seriesSet defaultLineWidth="3">
                <dvt:series markerShape="MS_DIAMOND" markerType="MT_MARKER"
                            lineWidth="2"/>
                <dvt:series/>
              </dvt:seriesSet>
              <dvt:o1Axis rendered="false"/>
              <dvt:y1Axis/>
              <dvt:legendArea automaticPlacement="AP_NEVER"/>
            </dvt:lineGraph>
    Even though the marker shape property is mentioned it is some how not reflecting in my result. Even other types of marker shapes like square, circle, up/down arrow are not working.
    Request you to help me fix this issue.
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards,
    Tejas

    Try to set seriesSet  defaultMarkerShape="MS_CIRCLE" and markerDisplayed="true" like:
    <dvt:seriesSet defaultMarkerShape="MS_CIRCLE" markerDisplayed="true">
           <dvt:series/>
    </dvt:seriesSet>

  • Shapes not printing properly!

    I created a spreadsheet in Numbers recently that required the use of shapes (squares) in specific swatches of colour...but when I go to the print, the squares aren't staying in the spot I originally drew them in - instead they're moving down a couple of rows. The same is true even if I 'print' the sheet as a PDF. To add to that, I can't seem to get Numbers to recognize that I'm printing on Tabloid sized paper, so barely any cells are making it onto each page.
    Any suggestions on either of these:
    - Why are my shapes moving when I go to print? How do I fix this?
    - How do I get Numbers to recognize I am printing on Tabloid paper and it can fit more cells per sheet?
    Thanks! (I have iWork 08 if that helps)

    From Numbers Help:
    Setting a Spreadsheet’s Page Size
    Before working with Print View, set the size of the pages to reflect the size of the paper you’ll be using.
    To set the page size:
    Click Inspector in the toolbar, and then click the Document Inspector button.
    Choose a page size from the Paper Size pop-up menu.
    Hope this helps.

  • How Do I Create This Basic Geometric Shape?

    I want to create a geometrically precise raindrop shape, 1 inch wide and 1.5 inches tall. I start with a 1-inch circle as the base, then I move the top anchor 0.5 inches higher. I then use the Convert Anchor Point tool to turn the top anchor from a curve to a point. I pretty much have my raindrop now, except that the side anchor points create pretty obvious points of demarcation between the perfectly round bottom of my raindrop and the pointy top. If I move the top handles on these side anchors just a little bit higher, the two parts blend more seamlessly.
    But, how do I make handles on each side exactly the same height? Can I numerically specify the position of each handle? And if I can, exactly how high should the handles be to create a perfectly seamless, geometrically precise raindrop shape?

    Mitch,
    The real shape of a drop changes during its formation pending underneath something through its detachment and contraction of the stem to its final shape, all of which depend on size/content/surface/final speed/whatever.
    And then there is the nice shape of the newly detached, falling drop with a circular (spherical) bottom and even rounded stem chosen for its clarity and even roundness.
    It is a bit like the heart.
    In any case, the newly detached drop only exists for moments
    Using the nice shape, you may choose the length of the (rapidly) contracting stem and its correspoding curvature quite freely. If you want it to be circular, you will have to cut the upper 60 degrees out of the circle (you can use a triangle with its lower tip at the centre), turn the upper part 120 degrees, reattach it, and reflect/copy it to complete; the drop will be shorter than your original figure, 1/(√3-1) instead of 1.5 (1/(2/3)).

  • Why are my reflections brighter in After Effects CS6?

    My first project in After Effects CS6 and the new Ray Tracer Renderer has taken a turn for the worse.
    I brought in AI text and converted it to Shape Layers. Extruded it and placed it in front of a "wall" that set to receive Reflections.
    You can clearly see in the reflection that the sides of the letters are waay brighter than they should be and really aren't reflecting properly.
    Anyone have any clue what I'm doing wrong?

    I have one ambient light and one point light in front of the text.
    I turned the shadows off so that the reflections could be seen better for this example.
    I'll add more lights and see if it does a better job, just out of curiosity. I still need to use my current set up though.
    I did find out something about ... I forgot what they called it. Adobe's "power saver" something or other. When you turn on reflections things automatically get darker and you need to boost your lights.
    Still, though, if that's the cause then I would think the reflections in the wall would be darkened by the same amount.

  • Reflection iCon like iPhone Apps

    Hi all,
    I'm wondering whether Keynote possible to create the icon like iPhone Apps' icons with the Reflection?
    How to do that?

    If what you mean is that shiny reflection that looks like this
    http://www.3dot5.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/apple-touch-icon-2561.png
    Then, yes, you can. The main part of the "reflection" is just a portion of a circle overlaid on the image with a white gradient. If you put that shape over almost any image, you'll get something really close to the look you're going for. I've uploaded a doc to iWork.com that you can deconstruct to see how it's done. Click the link below to download it.

  • Dynamic shape colors: color palette?

    I am having a hard time finding guidance for this and am hoping someone can point me to the right guidance.
    I have a number of visio files, all of them visual representations of workflows.  I have color-coded each, but if I want to change colors systematically (ie: hey, I want all of those things that are coded blue to be coded red instead) I currently would
    have to go to each file and re-color all of the shapes.  Obviously a poor solution.
    Is there a way to define a color palette, tell visio to use that palette for various shapes, then allow for dynamic changes to that palette that would be reflected in the visio shapes?
    I have explored Data Graphics and assigning color by shape value, but those colors are hard-wired.
    Thanks for any ideas!

  • How can I apply an edit on a corner of a shape to all the corners so it would be symmetrical?

    I made this specific shape in Illustrator CC but I need all the corners and sides to be symmetrical, how can apply the same edit I make for one corner or side to all the corners of the rectangle? or is there any way to make them symmetrical? and is there an info bar which tells you x and y coordinates like in after effects?

    3b,
    is there any way to make them symmetrical?
    How would I mirror one half without any external plugins?
    It is quite possible to create a symmetrical drawing live with the help of Illy, with her inbuilt tools, without any external plugins, if you just start in the right way. Obviously, it is much better to see the whole appearance while you create it.
    You may see the reflection live after each Anchor Point if you start out as follows (for Pen Tool with vertical reflection to the right, similar for other directions):
    1) Create the first two Anchor Points of your basic path;
    2) Effect>Distort&Transform>Transform>ReflectX with 1 copy and the middle right side Reference Point chosen;
    3) With the Pen Tool ClickDrag (or Click) anew from the second Anchor Point and go on;
    If you wish, you may:
    4) Object>Expand Appearance and Ctrl/Cmd+J to join the half paths.
    Ctrl/Cmd+Z Undo is your friend: you can just go back and redo while drawing the basic path.
