Reformating a encore project w/ dvdsp4 to DLT

This just has me totally baffeled but I do realize that I'm dealing with adobe encore on this project. I have a client that has provided me with a authored disc that was done in adobe encore. They of course don't have a DLT drive or really any knowlege of how to add CSS to the project and going to DLT or buring the layer to DVD-R. Here is the issue. When I take their DVD master and format it to DLT with CSS everything seems to work. We then analysed it for replication and I get Invalid title set information errors. Eclipes Data systems suggested that there is a data shift when formatting from encore to DVDSP. Has anyone else have this problem. I've done this many times before sucessfully using masters made with different programs but for some reason encore has a nasty bug that won't allow the reformat. Any suggestions?

You cannot use DVD SP to write a project (sounds like build files) like that to output to DLT, which may be the issue. (Is that what is happening.)
Take a look at http://www.dvdafteredit.com, the mastering edition should do what you need.

• Encore project won't load

I have 2 encore projects - significant because they have about 22 video clips linked together with a dozen or so menus. One is a copy of the main project and neither of them will load for me.
I'm using CS5. Prior to today everytime I wanted to load this project it took ages to gather all the bits and finally put them into timelines and now it won't do it at all. I have a couple of clips that need to be changed before re-burning a final copy for duplication.
Please get back to me asap as I have a deadline of tomorrow to sort it.

• Exporting Premiere sequence into specific Encore project

Is there an "option" or drop down menu that would allow someone to specify an Encore project in which to export to from Premiere? I tried it through Adobe Bridge but it automatically opened a new Encore project. I also had my targeted Encore project open while working in Premiere and the export opened a new project instead. It would be a great time saver if this option was available.
thanks.

Awesome!! This is going to save me a lot of time.

• I have lost the AUDIO of my Encore project

This is a project that I finished few months ago. I went back in to burn another DVD and found that I can't hear anything.
The Encore project opened up without any warnings such as assests missing or anything. But the audio is gone.
Any ideas?

I am answering my own questions LOL!
The answer to my problem is that I had a microphone hooked up that prevented audio out.
I unplugged it and everything is fine now.
Thanks for listening.  :-)

• Change Encore Project into a adobe air desktop application with password

Good afternoon,
I am trying to find a a way that i can change or inport a Encore project into a adobe air desktop application so that a can password protect it. I have a training simulator built in Encore that has a large number of menus and videos that i would like to tern into a tesk top application that i can password protect. Encore out puts this as a swf file. Is there any way to do this? I have bin looking around an the web and can't seem to find any information on this kind of problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Justin

Hi Justin,
ok, assuming that your external SWF tries to access some hosting application context (methods/properties) you could try:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
applicationComplete="applicationCompleteHandler(event)">
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.controls.Alert;
import mx.events.FlexEvent;
private var loader:URLLoader = null;
protected function applicationCompleteHandler(event:FlexEvent):void
loader = new URLLoader();
loader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.BINARY;
var url:String = "MyApplication.swf";
loader.load(new URLRequest(url));
loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loaderCompleteHandler);
loader.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, loaderErrorHandler);
protected function loaderCompleteHandler(event:Event):void
// allow cross-scripting in case loaded content tries to access
// that context properties or methods
var context:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext();
context.allowCodeImport = true;
swfLoader.loaderContext = context;
swfLoader.load(loader.data);
cleanup();
protected function loaderErrorHandler(errorEvent:IOErrorEvent):void
mx.controls.Alert.show(errorEvent.text, "ERROR");
cleanup();
private function cleanup():void
loader.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loaderCompleteHandler);
loader.removeEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, loaderErrorHandler);
loader = null;
]]>
</fx:Script>
<!-- ui -->
<s:SWFLoader width="100%" height="100%" id="swfLoader"/>
<!-- -->
</s:WindowedApplication>
See that doc for some details "allowCodeImport":
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/fplayer10_1_air2_security_changes.html
note: I'm not sure if that would 100% work. I don't know what Encore authored .swf really do, for that you could ask on Encore forum:

• Encore project from linked Premiere project, everything updates dynamically EXCEPT Chapter Markers.

The link process works perfectly but for this one issue. Make a change in Premiere (CS6), it instantly shows in Encore. The exception is chapter markers. I can close and re-open both the Premiere and Encore projects, and there's no change in the Encore project to reflict this change in Premiere. I end up MANUALLY inserting or removing them in Encore. Is there any way to change this behavior?

Many users set chapters in Encore. So an auto update for chapter markers would create chaos. Adobe's solution was to require you to update markers.
But it is just about impossible to find that little "update markers" command.
You must right click on the timeline itself in the timeline viewer panel to get the command.

• Can I use Photoshop Elements 8 to create menus for Encore Project?

Is there a way to create menu buttons in PS Elements 8 for an Encore project or do I need to upgrade to PS CS5?
Thanks!

I have never used PSE, but my understanding is that it can only edit Button Layer Sets, and NOT create them. This might have been added in PSE 8, but one would have to check.
Now, PS (the big-brother) has no such limitations, and I use it for Menu creation.
One workaround, if my first paragraph is correct, would be to do the Menu creation, sans Buttons, then Import into Encore and use the Menu Editor to add Buttons from the Library. Just choose a Library Button that is somewhat close to what you want. Now, PSE should allow you to edit that created Button Layer Set.
As Ann mentions, be very, very careful with the necessary naming conventions. Those are critical.
Good luck,
Hunt

• Encore project is to big for DVD when it shouldn't be

I'm using PP Cs5 because of a sound issue in cs6 that Adobe hasn't allowed me to contact them directly about...
Anyway, my Encore projects are now to big for my DVDs. When I try burning a previous project (which had the same length of footage and original file size) it also won't work now.
I did upgrade to Windows 8, which may be the cause. I tried burning it in the CS6 version with the same problem.
I run a video converting business and this is stopping me from working.

There was a change somewhere along the line for one of the default setting. Windows 8 should not matter. Ultimately, you are going to need to know the settings you have been using, and to adjust bitrate to get the material to fit.

• Export video clip from Premiere into an existing Encore project

New to encore.....love the software so far....but not much experience with it yet. Here is my question:
How do I go about exporting a video clip from premiere CS3 into an open/existing encore project. When I try to export to encore from the prem. timeline it makes a new proj. Sometimes I want to render out and export more than one asset into the same encore proj. but cant seem to figure out how to do that. any help would be great.
Thanks,
Eric

thanks J.....I have been doing it all along the way that you suggested. Just wondered if there might be a more efficient way to bring in multiple files. I appreciate your help with this....now at least I know that I am not doing things in a more difficult manner than necessary.
Thanks again!

• Multiple (different) DVD outputs from a single Encore project

I have 5 DVD's to output. Each of them is based off the same menu template. (see attachment) What will be changing from one DVD to the next are the number of buttons and the "workshop" title. Is it possible or advisable to copy the menu that I have done already, modify it and output it as a new dvd all in the same encore project file? (Without altering the one I have completed already) I hope that made sense. Or do I need to have a new Encore project for each DVD?
TIA
Dean

I agree with the others, and it's basically the way that I have done multi-disc Projects.
I first set up a Project, and Import all Assets, that are common across all Projects, arranging them in appropriate Folders/Bins. Then, I Save that Project, to be used as a "template," for each disc in the set. I also make a Copy of that Project (complete), just in case I forget the next step. I Open my "template" Project, and do a Save_As, with the disc number in the new name. I Import all unique Assets, modify my Menus, and do any required linking. If OK, I then output. For the next disc, I Open that "template" Project, and repeat the process, incrementing the Project's file name to reflect the next disc, say_02, in lieu of the first one's _01. Repeat.
I've used this workflow for Projects that were up to 18 discs, with no problems.
Just plan your "template" Project out, so that you will only have to Import material, that is unique to that disc.
Good luck,
Hunt

• Cannot open Encore projects CS 5.1

I am trying to open two completed Encore projects, so far no luck. I get the following message - "" Could not create "Blu-ray NTSC 1280x720 24p MPEG-2.epr". The path is not valid." The projects were completed about two months ago.
Please let me know if there is a solution to this. Thanks. I do not look forward to starting the projects from scratch.

No idea what is going on.
Create a new project, add an asset as timeline (doesn't matter what it is), then right click on the asset and pick transcode settings. Under Bluray, set to mpeg, pixel size as in your error message, and see if you can pick a preset from the list. Select and save. Does that work?
This further checks the functionality of the presets.
We have to suspect a corrupt Encore project.

• Encore Project Settings and Encoded file is less in Encore than on my Drive.

Hi,
Before Encoding my Premiere Pro timeline in Media Encoder, I had set up my all my menus and all my assets in Encore CS 5.1. After I had done all that, I pressed the "Build button and it said I had around 23 GB left (I am making a Blu-Ray DVD)
So I went back to Premiere Pro CS 5.5 and Encoded my Project through Media Encoder. I set it it H.264 Blu-Ray, PCM Audio, Target Bit Rate was 18.5 and Max Bit Rate was 20. The estimated file size said it was going to be around 23 GB. This was perfect.
So I encoded it and when it was done, on the Hard Drive, it was 23 GB, just like to was supposed to be.
I then imported it into my Encore project and put it on the timeline. I then looked at the Build tab to see how many GB I had left on the Disc. I wanted a little room.
It said I am only using just over 20 GB and have a little over 4 GB left to use..
Why would this happen? I now have more free space.
In Encore, I wento to File ------ Project Settings ------ Default Transcode settings ---- and that was set at:
Max Audio/Video
Codec MPEG 2
Bit Rate = 15 MBPS.
The Audio was on Dolby.
There was a drop down list, in the Bit Rate category, that I could have chosen to use 20 or 25. I left it at 15 for now.
If I go back and choose 20 or 25 would that make the encoding of my whole project (Menus and h.264 Blu-Ray) a little better quality than it is now? Will it increase the size of Encoded project so when I hit the Build tab again it will show I have less space available to use? I want to make the project as good as it can get without going over the 25 GB limit.
One other thing.
Wih my final project on the Encore Timeline, when I have the Sequence active, on the Project tab in Encore it reads: 19.1 GB Encoded (Audio and Video). the final encode is 23 GB. Why is it going down to 19?
The video looks good and I could burn it to a Blu-Ray now and it would look great. I just want to know if there is some way to make it a little better inside Encore without having to Encode my whole project at a higher Bit Rate knowing that It will be a little less when I bring it into Encore.
Thanks in advance
Premiere Pro CS 5.5
Media Encoder 5.5
Encore 5.1

Many issues in this; one problem is understanding file sizes and Encore's handling of project panel sizes and build panel sizes.
See post 7 here:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/4838089#4838089
Regarding bitrate calculators and a shorthand method mentioned by Jeff Pulera, see his post 2 in that same thread. I see that it was regarding DVD; I wonder if someone has a shorthand like that for Bluray?

• Easiest way to produce NTSC DVD from PAL encore project?

I have a PAL Encore project with 25fps assets and subtitles. What's the easiest way to make an NTSC DVD from this project? Encore won't let me edit the quality settings to change from NTSC to PAL. These settings are greyed out. I take it they are dictated by the assets. Can anyone suggest how to make an NTSC project easily from this Encore project? I don't want to go back to the original footage. I want to just convert it from these Mpeg-2 files in the Encore project.
Any help would be much appreciated.

What Richard said. I'll add three things.
Encore won't let me edit the quality settings to change from NTSC to PAL. These settings are greyed out. I take it they are dictated by the assets.
They are dictated by your selections when you created the project. And NTSC vs PAL are not settings that can be changed in the project settings once created.
Regarding reusing menus. The files accessed by the Encore library for DVD projects are different for NTSC vs PAL. They have NTSC or PAL in the filename, but you don't see this from inside Encore. (They do not vary for Bluray menus.) You can take your NTSC project menus, "save as file," and then "import as menu" into a new PAL project. They will be the "wrong" pixel size and aspect ratio, but Encore may correct the par. I have never tried this. But if you get oddities doing it this way, in the new PAL project, add a PAL menu, edit in photoshop, and copy the button groups and such from the NTSC version of the menu to the PAL menu. That might work.
What I see in most of these "convert PAL from NTSC" threads is that virtually all NTSC disks play on current PAL equipment. Many users asking your question decide not to convert. that is especially true, because Richard's "export as NTSC" is not as simple as it seems.

• This Encore Project was created in a Windows version, sorry.

That's the message I get when trying, and failing, to open an Encore project I just saved a couple of days ago... on the same Mac.
Just another show stopping bug brought to you from Adobe. My initial excitement of getting the CS3 Suite ported to MacIntel is fading fast. I'm trying to get paying work done with non-beta software (in name only... this PP and Encore is beta through and through), and I'm getting stymied at every turn. Can you tell I'm peeved? I'm losing money, Adobe. It's not funny.

Yesterday I created three Encore files from Premiere projects (took 4-5 hours each, seems a super long time) and one out of the three Encore files gave me the "created for Windows" error. But I noticed that project had a different file structure than the others:
Sources, Cache and project XML and ACX files were not in their own folder
I created a new folder and moved those assets into it, then opened the Encore file and it worked fine. I haven't worked with it yet so I don't know if I've fixed the problem, but the file opens fine now.
PSI do know that the one thing that sets the problem file apart from the others is that I used a Premiere preset (NTSC High Quality) when rendering it. The other two were set for widescreen.

• How to update an Encore project after a small PPO change

Hi guys,
I am new and I *think* I know how to do this but I wanted to double check with you. I did google around but was unable to find help.
I have created a PPO movie with chapters, sent it to encore, and created menus etc successfully. I saw a mistake in the original footage while watching the disc I made. Its a small mistake. So I went back to PPO and made my correction.
In order to get this fix into my finished encore project is this how I do it ?
In Encore : File / Adobe Dynamic Link / Import Premer Pro Sequence ?
which would result in brining in this sequence with chapter markers . then I delete the original sequence and rehookup this new sequence to the menus. am I right?
Please advise  ! thanks !!

Hi all, I just thought I would update my note. Turns out, I had to start over.
Yes, there is the ability to "right click on the timeline and pick Update markers" with the goal of importing new PPO timeline that had changes. I think there is a point of no return once you burn a disc or disc image - which is what I had done. With all the rendering that went on Encore can't deal with the project that way, at least right now.
So, I first saved the menus I had created for the project to disk. Then I got into PPO and "send to Encore" again. It was just time consuming to reconnect all the chapters.
FYI to anyone out there in the same situation.
Oh and another interesting thing; The "mistake" I needed to correct in my project was an unwelcome clip that got stuck onto the very end of the timeline. I didn't know it was there until I saw the entire DVD. I think it was one single frame. So I googled "clip cut" etc in Encore and found that there is the ability to click on the clip and drag the small red/black icon with the arrow to the left to reduce the timeline. I did that 4 times in a row each time generating an Encore crash. Just think, if that had worked I wouldn't have had to start over. Oh well!
have a great day everyone.
