Reformatting MSI GX630

Hello, I noticed that despite having 4 gigs of ram, the GX 630 comes with Vista 32 bit OS. Well I have a Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit version I was wondering if I would be a able to get all the needed drivers for this notebook to work with Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Anyone here reformat the GX 630 and get it to work with a 64 bit OS?

Your USB key need to be fixed:
Use HP Tool to format the USB key ==> http://www.pctipp.ch/ds/28700/28790/HP_USB_Boot_Utility.exe
{Just format}
Once done repeat the procedure.
"I used the MSIHQ tool to make my bootable BIOS diskette and I booted from it."
You mean USB key/drive? As Tool don't works with diskettes.{Tool will not let you allow to do that}
Alright so i used the tool, and extracted the files into the USB drive and booted into it, this time windows booted up like normal. Any help?

Turn AHCI off in the BIOS if you have the option.
    That's the entire problem.
Then you do not need any drivers to install XP

  • MSI GX630 Unstable FPS (frames per second )

I just got a msi gx630 the other day hoping with its decent VGA (Geforce 9600GT) run CS1.6 smoothly. What happened instead was that it ran CS like it did not even have a dedicated graphics card. The fps dropped before I even started a new game. When I get into the game , smokes and flashes do not drop my fps . But when I press TAB to see the frags , it drops exactly 10 fps. And big maps ussually drops my fps too. Its very unstable also. Even a laptop with an intergrated graphics card runs smoother than that .I tried 179xx and 176 drivers , no difference .Yes I turned vsync off and all other crap to performance . I tried using Turbo boost too but the result was the same. Please help me out ?

Not all cables need to be connected. They may have put some cables in there in case you wanted to add something later down the road, etc.

  • MSI GX630 Small issues

    Hey guys,
So I have a MSI GX630. I love this laptop. Its been amazing to me for the month I have had it. I just have a small question.
My problem is that I am having issues playing league of legends. I don't have problems playing any other games at all! I just started playing Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning and it plays flawlessly!!!! But for some reason League of legends does not like my laptop. I get FPS drops even though the graphics requirements are way low. Even if I drop my settings in game down to low it still happens. I have read that League has issues with AMD processors and there timing issues. I have installed AMD CPU fix that is SUPPOSED to help with the timing issues. But it did not help. I tried setting the affinity of the game to run off of one processor but that did not do it. Does anyone have any ideas what would fix this? I have most recent BIOS and NVIDIA drivers installed. Any ideas? Thanks in advance guys!

Easy, borrow a Windows 7 DVD that matches the version printed on the product key (eg Windows 7 Home Premium x64), boot from that disc, then remove all existing partitions, create new ones as desired, then install.

  • MSI gx630 sleep on x64

Uh I'm curious has there been any news in fixing the sleep issue on the gx630 under x64 - i.e. the screen not coming on afterwards.
For the record I'm asking because I don't have a single reason apart from this to switch to x86-32.
Since 64 runs faster, allows me to use all of the ram and I have multiple x64 applications.
While sleep isn't crucial, it would be handy.

    Sorry for the long delay.
Well the OS is win vista Home premium x64 bit.
As far as I know I have the newest bios. of course I might be wrong on this one - the registry tells me I have E1652NMS VER.104 currently on.
The problem itself isn't an issue with wakeup. The laptop wakeups fine actually - or at least it appears so. But the screen doesn't seem to come on. Tried it with a plethora of nvdia drivers. Both offical, MSI delivered and modified.
The laptop goes into sleep normal, and when I want to wake it up, I notice the backlight of the screen actually turns on, but the screen remains blank. and thus unusable.
The only way I found of getting back to the screen is to turn the laptop of, remove and reinsert the battery and power it back on.
Also after checking powercfg - availablesleepstates it seems that only s3 is supported. S1 and s2 are not.

is there perhaps somewhere a list of all fixes in bios updates. It seems the newest one only always displays one item fixed.

  • MSI GX630 mysterious freezing in Windows XP

OK, so I used Vista for awhile, then I tried out the Windows 7 RC for awhile, and I finally decided to go back to my good ol XP. So I reformatted yesterday (Win7 -> XP) and it mysteriously freezes, seemingly randomly. Now when I reformatted yesterday, after the first freeze, which happened when my computer was coming back from sleep, I restarted and it gave me an error saying a system32 file was missing (I forgot, but I think sysmKernel or something?). But I could still get on, etc. Yesterday it seemed to only freeze when it came back from sleep. Today however I decided to reformat again - perhaps the XP install didn't go smoothly the first time. I go through with no problems. I even wake it from sleep and it seemingly works... for a little bit. Then when I'm downloading some file it just randomly freezes.
Right now it is working just fine. I have a feeling the freezing has to do with sleep/waking the computer, but I have no clue why. Can anyone fill me in with any insight?
    Thanks.

Yes, I use supplied drivers from MSI.
Have never tried Turbo mode - this only happened in "normal" mode.
Yes, after I did a clean OS installation I actually got up to do something. When I came back it was asleep (was on battery and I have it go to sleep after like 10 minutes or so) so I woke it up. And when I got on the internet to start downloading all the applications I wanted, that is when it just froze. Minutes after I woke it.
    No add-on upgrades.
It is just odd. It works perfectly fine, no random freezing so far because I am too scared to put it to sleep again, haha. As far as I can tell that is when it decides to freeze.

  • MSI GX630 CPU problem

    Hi,
I've the GX630 notebook with CPU AMD X2 Ultra ZM-80. The CPU is changing frequancy {in the range of 500 - 2100Mhz}. This causes problems with games, HD video and the mouse which came with the notebook. When set on hig performance in Vista 64bit or 32bit it changes only between 1000-2100Mhz. I know that AMD's have these abilities, but it should be possible to turn it of. Till now I spent a lot of time and also money to try to solve my problem, of course if it is a problem... I contacted online support - they couldn't help me. Then I send it to the local warranty service in the Czech republic and they couldn't help me either.
Is it then a problem or is the processor up? Has anybody else this problem?
And could I also please get a response from some official MSI technician whos into the subject and tell me if it is ok.
    Thanx.
    P.S.: I use CPU-Z v1.48 (freeware) to chceck the CPU-speed
Do not try to skirt the language filters.
    -Frankenputer

The thing is, that AMD's PowerNow! actually should work this way (and it is good so, because of temp), but not when set on Max. Performance.
Check latest BIOS (maybe your unit was shipped with very old one), do the EC reset and then try to make your own power management rule with all set on performance.
Also, you can try play with tools like AMD Power Monitor Version 1.2.3, which is able to change power management modes thru right click on tray icon, or AMD OverDrive. Even when GX630's chipset isn't AMD/ATi, the CPU stuff should work in OverDrive, I believe.
But be careful, running on high temperatures for long time could make significant damage your laptop!

  • MSI GX630 - Won't boot

    Have a GX630, and haven't changed the hardware/OS. (Vista 32)
Working fine until last night, when pushed the power button and nothing happened. It lights up, the fan goes on, and the HDD light starts a regular cycle of flashing, but the fan is only running at sleep cycle levels, not normal level.  The monitor stays dark, even when plugged into a second monitor.
    I've tried:
Holding the power button down, waiting 10m, restarting.
powering down, removing battery and cord, waiting 10m, restarting.
running the battery out, removing, waiting, restarting.
    Nothing.
Any suggestions, aside from sending it back?

Hey, i had a similar issue awhile back:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=133932.0
Nothing you can do but send it back... as for copying off your data, at least in my situation, it was a non-issue as they didn't need to perform a wipe.
Hope this helps, and good luck

  • MSI GX630 shuts down at bios

When I start up my laptop, the BIOS screen shows up, then after a few seconds the laptop just shuts down every time. I've tried removing the hard drive and trying it, with the same result. I removed power and the battery for 30 seconds with the same result.
Interestingly, I can still go into the BIOS setup, but once I exit the laptop shuts down again. I haven't flashed my bios ever. What is going on?

I have seen similar behavior once or twice in the year and a half I've had my GX630 and I think it has always been Windows 7. I installed the W7 Beta 11/08 and then the RC 03/09. I installed the Retail Home Premium 02/10. It just happened again a few days ago. I would always start by removing the battery for a few minutes and reset the BIOS to defaults. That did it previously. This time, when the LOGO screen came up there were no BIOS entry prompts and Windows said it was recovering from Hibernation although I never configured such.  This never completed. I was able to cycle power and force the BIOS entry by banging on Del. On a hunch, I set the disk controller mode to IDE from AHCI. I could not be sure but I think I installed W7 in AHCI mode. I booted up my Windows 7 Recovery CD. (Have you made one yet?) This gives you similar options that you get with XP or 7 Professional. It let me successfully complete a SAFE boot and then a Normal boot. Something changed because Windows said it had loaded a driver and needed another reboot. Everything is OK now but I can tell you I have never had good luck with the AHCI mode and the eSATA port is not quite right either. I am running all the latest drivers, updates and BIOS. I did replace the hard drive with an identical model before I installed the final Windows 7. I did some research and the Western Digital WDC3200BEVT is probably the best bang for the buck HD for notebooks. That same model comes in the TRANSJET external drives and they are the best bang for the buck HD for external use.

  • MSI GX630 - My turbo will not stay on for more than a few seconds

I have the laptop plugged in to AC and when I enable the turbo , it says turbo on then almost immediatly it says turbo off and turns back off. Some times it will stay on for up to about a min, but it never will just stay on. Do I have a bum cpu that can't handle the over clocking, overheats, and then it automatically reverts back to normal cpu speed or what? Anyone else have this problem? It is not that big of a deal, but if they are going to sell a laptop with a turbo option, I think they should test it to make sure that it works with something that taxes the cpu and can handle it.

  • MSI gx630 issues

So i got my gx630 as a Christmas gift yesterday and now im having a few issues.
      1. The dvd/cd drive has an extreme buzzing noise over the regular drone. Thinking of trying to get a replacement for that reason alone. Anyone else have that problem?
      2. The split partition HD is making me go insane. I play WoW, but i do not have the disks for th install so im trying to download the program from the website. So i try the first install, direct to to D: and it does fine. When i open the downloaded installer again so i can install one of the expansons, it says i do not have enough HD space to do so. Any ideas?
      3. Heres a biggy. When i first started the computer i skipped making the recovery disks. I got everthing working right then i went to make my disks and it tells me that i need 10g of HD space available so i can make them. Was wanting them so i can redo the partition and make things easier but that plan was foiled lol. Any help here?
Thanks in advance and Happy holidays!

well, there's usually an option on the browser you're using to let u choose the location before you download something, if you look into the settings you can probably find it. some browsers like firefox and google chrome have it unchecked by default. but still you'll have to have that much free space on the C: drive cause they first download to a temp file to then copy to the final location
about the recovery, I doubt it'll let you repartition the hard disk on a recovery install, it's usually just like extracting an instation to a partition, and even if it does, it won't let you merge, or resize partitions, just delete and create a new one, so you'd lose all your data
in case you don't really care about your data on your D: drive, or you can transfer it to C: or an external disk, I think your best option would be deleting the D: partition and resizing the C: like it's explained on the first link I gave you, you can do that with vista with no extra software and you get to keep all your files on the C: drive
another option would be installing windows xp, during the install it lets you delete and create new partitions, so if you don't care about the data on both of the drives or you can copy it to an external disk, you can use the xp install to delete C: and D: and create a new C: with the whole space. if you're plan on using your notebook mainly for gaming, I really recommend you do that, it will not only improve your notebook's performance but also compatibility with a lot of games
I even heard it's possible to downgrade your vista license to a XP one if you call microsoft, not quite sure it's true but it's worth a try
anyway, I'm off to the beach for a few days, maybe someone else can keep helping you with your issues, good luck ^^
