Reformatting QT to play on PC

I am creating a PP presentation on my mac that has 2 .mov files in it. I first created a slideshow in IPhoto then exported it as a Movie and inserted the movie into the PP presentation. The presentation needs to be viewed on a PC and the PC can't play the Quicktime files. They even downloaded QT for Windows and it was still unable to open the .movs file because they are MPEG4...... i think?
Is there anyway to create a slideshow or movie file for PowerPoint that Windows can read?

It's worth checking which version of Powerpoint they're using. Powerpoint has always been bad at handling QuickTime, but it got less bad at one point.
Your other option is to try Cinepak or Animation as your codec, both of those should work.

  • Trying to reformat videos to play on ipod

I just purchased a ipod video, i'm trying to import my old videos from my computer. I purchased the QT pro to help with this. I followed the instruction that I was given to reformat the files, but when I get to the progress bar i'm getting nothing. I've let the progress bar run for 5 and 1/2 hours and i'm just now at 30%. Please let me know if i'm doing something wrong, or if ther's a better way. By the way my OS is windows XP.

I found a free program that converts video to files compatible with the iPod video:

  • How to retain original song data (Date Added, etc.) after computer reformat.

    Hello!
I recently had to reformat my computer, and I was able to copy all my music files and data to an external hard drive.
I currently have iTunes installed on my C drive (Windows 7) and all my music files are on a partition of my PC hard drive (P:). See image below.
What I like to do is to retain all the original song information (Date Added, Last Played, Play Count, etc.) from before I reformated, without all the songs having a Date Added of today's date and time.
I've tried to research this elsewhere on the Internet. A couple suggestions I've read pertain mostly to Macs but included the following:
~ Using the "iTunes Library.itl" file by choosing a library. Not sure how to do this method on the Windows version. (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3155068?start=0&tstart=0)
~ Changing the iTunes Media folder location (under Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced tab). I changed it to the folder above (P:\My Music\iTunes\) and clicked OK but nothing happens.
Any help or detailed instructions are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

OK, I partially solved the problem.
I primarily followed the steps under Re-creating the iTunes Library file on this page:
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451
I imported using the iTunes Music Library.xml file that I saved before reformating. This file had all the correct library information before I reformatted, including the Play Count, Play Date UIC, Rating, and Date Added data. Snipet here:
    <dict>
              <key>Track ID</key><integer>20090</integer>
              <key>Name</key><string>Killer Queen</string>
              <key>Artist</key><string>Queen</string>
              <key>Composer</key><string>Freddie Mercury</string>
              <key>Album</key><string>Greatest Hits I</string>
              <key>Date Added</key><date>2011-02-27T21:44:06Z</date>
              <key>Play Count</key><integer>5</integer>
              <key>Play Date UTC</key><date>2011-04-14T05:11:12Z</date>
              <key>Rating</key><integer>80</integer>
    </dict>
Upon importing, all the music and playlists are now in my library along with all the original data I had before (Last Played, Plays, Ratings)...
...EXCEPT for the Date Added column. All the songs in my library show the same date of 05/15/2012 under Date Added.
Is there a reason why the Date Added data is not carried over?
On a side note: my music hard drive partition before the reformat was "J:", now it is "P:". So, to make it work I made a quick find/replace to the iTunes Music Library.xml so that all "\J:\" now show "\P:\". If this makes a difference, let me know.
    Thanks!

  • Restoring play counts & original data after reformat

I reformatted my computer and followed the steps online to restore my library, by importing my iTunes Library xml file from the desktop (and then dragging My Music into the iTunes window). Although I was able to obtain all of my original playlists, none of the play counts, or dates added, or similar, were restored.
If someone has any ideas about how to correct this, would be much appreciated!

    You are guessing right
After a reformat, the best way to restore your third party apps is to reinstall from their install disks. SuperDuper or Time Machine can certainly restore your Applications folder but in many cases you will need associated files. There's the rub. It's rarely the application but the associated file that is the problem. My user tip on where important data is stored may help.
Have you tested your apps in a new user account?
Create a new account, name it "test" and see how your apps work in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
If the problem is present in the test account also, then it is systemwide. In this case try repairing this with the 10.5.2 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
If the problem does not appear in the test account try starting in "Safe Mode" (It will take a bit more time to startup because it runs a directory check first).
If that works go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items and remove them. Boot normally and test. If there are still problems, go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving /Users/Home)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
    Let us know.

  • Saving iPod play counts when reformatting

I have a windows formated 60 GB 5G iPod that I want to reformat to Mac. Problem is I have been accumulating play counts for well over a year and I don't want to reset them. I've been managing my music manually, so the play counts don't update in my library. If I created a playlist in my library that's the same as my iPod and synced my iPod with that playlist, would the play counts transfer from the iPod to the playlist or from the playlist to the iPod? Is there any other possible way to save play counts?

Not a very elegant solution, but for Macs you can use Apple Scripts and there are a couple that allow you to change the playcounts of iTunes stuff either by entering the play count directly or adding/subtracting a number from the current playcount. You can find these at Doug's Apple Scripts for iTunes (do a web search).
So what you would need to do is on the Windows machine, select all and do a copy, then past into a spreadsheet. Everything should line up nicely in columns. Make sure Play count is there. Save it.
When you get to the Mac, you can use this list (printed out if you like) and those Apple scripts to set the playcounts back to where they were. Ya, tedious manual method, but I don't know of another way.

  • Had to reformat my computer today, lost 3000 tracks I had on it, any affect on my play

My PC picked up a virus today which wiped out my Windows. I lost all 3000 tracks on my PC. I loaded these onto my Zen Touch 40 GB. when I reinstall the Creative software, and connect my player, will anything get deleted from my player?
Just worried, I already lost these from my PC, I'll have to destoy something if I lose them from my player.
One more thing, are there any software applications that will allow me to copy the songs on my player back to my computer?
    Thanks!

ShetenshiSenshi, here is what you should do to transfer tracks in your MP3 player back to your PC:
    - Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site.
    - Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.
    - Launch Creative MediaSource Oragnizer.
    - Go to Tools->Settings->PC Music Library and click Properties. Set your preferred folder and file naming convention. Close the setting page.
    - In the Sources window, click to view PC Music Library.
    - Go to View->Right Panel View and select to view your MP3 player.
    - Transfer the tracks from your MP3 player to MediaSource's PC Music Library by clicking the arrow pointing from right to left.
    - If you have updated the track information of the tracks in your MP3 player, the updated track information will also be imported into the PC Music Library database. However, the tags of the files are not updated. Here is what you need to do. Right click the PC Music Library node in the Sources window or right click on any tracks in the PC Music Library window and select "Update Tag". This will update the tag of all the tracks or the selected tracks with the track information as seen in the PC Music Library.

  • Ipod no longer playing songs

On Monday a friend and I went to go see a movie, during which a surprise thunderstorm rolled in and drenched a portion of my cars interior while my sunroof was open at a slight angle. As we left the theater, I ran to my car, shut it up, and proceeded to dry the wet part of the interior out with a towel.
My Ipod, (a black 5th gen 60g), which sit on one of those fm transmitter cradles, was not wet and did not appear to sustain any damage, (hence why I did not think twice to try to use it), however since then it no longer works properly.
In appearance, the device seems to work correctly, all the songs are still there, menu navigation is intact, and it even claims to be playing whatever song is selected, However, the song never actually begins playing, and the timer never counts past 0.0 seconds, even after leaving "playing" for more than 30 min, it doesn't make any song progress.
I've done a manual reset, did a restore, reformat, you name it. It still syncs properly even, so I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas?

  • I reformatted my ipod to windows and now I get a blank screen. Help!

My brother gave me his old Ipod 30Gb, I believe it's an IPOD Classic. When I first connected it to my PC I got a message that it needed to get reformatted to Windows, so I did that. After that when the IPOD came back on it had a blank screen. I tried holding down the menu + center button also but that did not work.
I also tried running the diagnostics on iTunes and failed on the Device Sync Test. I can see the music on the IPOD but they are greyed out and  it won't play. But if I attach the earbuds I can hear the songs, but again the screen is blank.
Thank you for any assistance you can give.

    Difficult to comprehend your post.
" I can see the music on the IPOD but they are greyed out and  it won't play. But if I attach the earbuds I can hear the songs, but again the screen is blank"
    Especially these parts
that you can see the music but the screen is blank?
it wont play but you can hear the songs.
Just a wild guess, your battery is low, connect it to the PC for 4 hours, then Reset the iPod. (Menu+center button
till the Apple logo comes ON)

  • TS3354 "To play this movie in HD, you must have a PC with a built-in display or have it connected to a display that supports HDCP."

I recently reinstalled restored my Toshiba laptop with Windows 8 to factory condition.  I reinstalled iTunes, and now when I try to play a movie, I get this error message:  "To play  (name of movie) you must have a PC with built-in display or have it connected to a display that has built in HDCP."  This happens with both my downloaded movies and my iCloud movies.  It never did this before.  Any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem. I watched both AnchorMan 2 and The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug a week ago on my set up. BenQ monitor ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series Video card. No issues. Then I reformat and all of a sudden my purchased movies give me that error. It's so frustrating.
The odd part is for the Hobbit the itunes extras will start just like before, however I can't select a scene.
How is there no response to this? Are we missing something obivous? A default setting? Driver?
    Help please!

  • When I backed up files on my external drive, I inadvertently dragged my itunes library there. Now I can only play songs on my laptop when my external drive is plugged in. How do I get the library back to my computer

When I was backing up files from my computer to my external drive, I inadvertently dragged my itunes library to the external drive. Now I can only play my library when my external drive is plugged into my computer. How do I get the library location changed back to my computer?

Your drive was used with a PC and formatted NTFS which is proprietary Microsoft format.
You need to install a third party program that will read the NTFS format.
There is various software from PARAGON, Tuxera and NTFS-3G
When you get the data off and have verified it to be good, reformat the drive either HFS+ for Mac use only, or for Mac and PC use then MSDOS (FAT32) for under 4GB files (best) or exFAT (for larger than 4GB files) is proprietary and Microsoft is appling for a patent, which would likely mean OS X won't be allowed to read it anymore without a licensing fee and you'l have to pay another third party software company to read the format, just like NTFS is.
The less you have to rely upon third party sources to read your drives the better, this way if you have a issue and need to read the drive on another machine you don't need the software, and a internet connection and a credit card and...and...and...

  • Music doesn't play on iPod

Since my computer wasn't recognizing my iPod, I put it into disk mode and it immediately showed up on iTunes and worked like it was supposed to. So, I proceeded to transfer all of my music over (while still in disk mode) and it seemed to successfully sync. I unplugged it, and since it was stuck in disk mode, restarted my iPod. All my music and album artwork showed up on my iPod, but when I click "play" the music timer stays at 0:00 even though the top right corner has the "play" icon. I have tried playing the songs on my computer and they work. Additionally they are all mp3 files which are surely supported by iPods (not to mention my previous nano could play the same library of songs). Earphones are plugged in... I tried restarting, restoring... different computers... ports... 5R's... etc... Any advice?

    Capt.Apollo123 wrote:
Yes, that's exactly what I did. I forced it into disk mode, and restored it.
You must not have successfully restored it then since restoring it reformats and resets everything and that includes the iPod then going through a longish reboot where it will turn off for a few seconds then start up again. If your iPod simply stayed in Disk Mode, then it didn't get restored.
Perhaps you can try restoring it on another computer and see if that works?

  • I read another comment that my Coby Kyros tablet can run Firefox OS beta. Unless I run the tablet in root mode, I can't access Google Play. Any other options?

My tablet is using Android 4.0. (ICS)
The Coby website for the MID9740 says it has an Allwinner Cortex™-A8 however that is misleading, as this is really an AllWinner A10, which is a cortex A8 ARM CPU.to be accurate) The Cortex A8 is based on the ARMv7 architecture. It also has 1GB RAM, and cpu is 1 GHz.
Out of the box,(and not rooted) it can't access the Google Play for FirefoxOS download. If I root it, I can download from Google. I'm not afraid to root my tablet, but I know many others' are. I had it rooted before using ClockworkMod, but decided to restore to factory.(similar to a routine bi-annual reformat with Windows and Linux on my desktop)
I was just wondering if AndroidPit or any other sites have the beta available to test out on my Kyros.
Could you please let me know? Thanks for your kind help, and have a great day!
    Best regards always,

  • How can I get Hi8 video captured in NTSC Standard, to display as 4:3 when DVD is played on TV?

I have been capturing Hi8 tapes of our family, using a Sony analog-to-digital converter and Adobe Premier 10's NTSC Standard (4:3) preset. However, when I use Premiere Elements 10 to burn the digital files to DVDs and then play them on a Sony DVD player and Bravia flat-panel TV, the video is distorted in width automatically by the Wide Zoom mode. The TV cannot be configured to display the frames in the Normal Mode because the resolution is 720p, so the images cannot be viewed with the original 4:3 frame aspect ratio.
After much experimentation, I tried capturing a tape in the NTSC Wide (16:9) preset. When I started to burn the AVI file to a DVD, I got a warning that I was using the wrong format, and the choice to correct the format.  I chose NO, and then burned the DVD. To my surprise, it did display on the TV without horizontal stretch, and the images did not appear to have been noticeably degraded.
I would very much appreciate knowing if there is some way for me to go back now and have Premiere Elements 10 somehow reformat all of the Hi8 tapes I captured using the NTSC Standard preset, so that I don't have to recapture them, but can simply reformat them and burn them to DVD's that can be displayed on the TV without being distorted?

Thanks for replying Steve.  I've been using a Sony DVMC-DA2, an analog-to- digital media converter which I was advised is used by people converting media professionally. I've been using an S-Video cable to connect it to my Sony Hi8 video camera (Model CCD-TR101), which was considered to be a high-end camera, back in the day (1992). The converter is connected to my Windows 7 computer with an IEEE 1394, "FireWire" cable. I'm not sure how I would check the format into which the Hi8 video is being converted, but I've followed the Adobe Premiere 10 Video Tutorial and configured the capture preset to the NTSC Standard (4:3), which is the one recommended for DV cameras. I couldn't find any advice specifically explaining how to configure the preset when converting analog Hi8 to digital.
In the Premiere Elements 10 editing software itself, the video images burned on a DVD are not distorted, and the quality of the video images during editing looks to be every bit as good as the camera could record.
When I started showing the DVD's to my family, however, I was very disappointed to discover that everything looked stretched in the horizontal direction. I have since studied the configuring of frame aspect ratio modes (Normal, Zoom, Wide Zoom and Full) described in the Sony Bravia TV's instruction manual, in detail. And, I have tried every conceivable combination of the picture and frame settings to see if I could "unstretch' the video images. No, luck. It was then that I came across a footnote that indicated that the Normal mode was not available for video resolutions of 720p, 1080 and higher. Unfortunately, the NTSC Standard preset indicates that it does capture DV in images that have 720 horizontal pixels by 480 vertical pixels.
When I view the Hi8 burned to DVD's on other computers, using Windows Media Player and Video Lan, they are not distorted. In fact, they look so good that I'm just about ready to dedicate my laptop as the DVD player for my TV set!  It was while contemplating whether there might be a way to avoid doing this, that it occured to me to try capturing some Hi8 tape using the NTSC Wide Screen preset option. My half-formed idea was that, since the ratio of pixel width to pixel height in the Standard preset was smaller than with the Widescreen preset, using the latter to capture an analog video image might either (1) expand the width of the overall image much farther, and cause grotesque distortion, or (2) squash the width of the overall image, so that it looked normal. I can't pretend to have known what I was doing, since I don't understand video recording technology, but it also occured to me that the Widescreen preset might degrade the resolution, so that it was somehow no longer 720p, and thereby possibly circumvent the Sony lockout of the Normal Mode for these DVD's. Whatever it did, capturing Hi8 video with the NTSC Widescreen preset did, indeed, reduce the width of the frames appearing on the TV Screen, so that they apperared normal.
The question with which I'm now wrestling is whether to go back and re-capture all of the Hi8 tapes, with the NTSC Widescreen preset, that I had already captured with the NTSC Standard preset - a big job. The warning window that popped-up when I prepared to burn the test video captured with the Widescreen preset gave me the option of correcting my "mistaken" choice of capture preset. I declined, and was rewarded with an undistorted video image. Which raises the possibility that, somewhere in Premiere Elements 10, there may be the capability of invoking that same pop-up window and modifying what the software considers to be the "correct," Standard preset to the Widescreen preset,so that I can change the formatting for all of the HI8 tapes I've already captured, so that they can be burned to DVD's and viewed in their proper frame aspect ration.
This has been a long-winded follow-up to your initial answer to my question, but I would very much appreciate any further suggestions.
    Many thanks.  Paul
