Reformatting to factory settings,13" MB Pro, Mid June 2009 Edition

I have had this MB Pro for 5 years. Still runs great but I bought the new 13" Retina model. I am looking to sell my old one but want to erase everything on HD first. I have erased the HD. (I hope). But when it asks me to reinstall OS (Yosemite), they want my Apple ID. My purpose of erasing the HD is NOT to have any of my info in the Mac. When I bought the Mac 5 years ago, I had Snow Leopard. I still have the 3 DVD's it came with.
- Applications Install DVD
- Mac OS X Install DVD
- Mac OS X Snow Leopard CPU Drop-in DVD
Should I have used these disk to reformat my HD?
Help me out please. Thanks.

Click here and follow the instructions. When you reach step 5, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD, restart with the C or Option key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a fresh OS. Include all of them with the computer.

  • [Solved] Compiling pommed for MacBook pro 13inch (June 2009 edition)

Hi, I'm trying to get pommed to run on my new MBP 13inch, but whenever I try to run the daemon it fails without any error message. Also when I run the pommed command itself I don't get any output. I tried to run with the standard mactel config and without any config.
I don't know which logs to check but dmesg doesn't show me anything.
Also I tried compiling pommed with the MacBook_Aluminum wiki tip by changing to 5,5, but still the same: no output.
Currently I'm on arch64, thanks in advance.

What does it mean no output ? Do you get back the shell prompt without any output or it hangs on forever in an endless loop or what ?

    Hi Jai campion,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Reset factory settings usually means to completely erase the computer and refresh the operating system.  What version of the operating system do you have?

  • HOW TO REFORMAT TO FACTORY SETTINGS?

My iMac needs reformatting to factory settings I accidently deleted all my files and its not working right. How do you do a complete reformatt? Please help
    Thank You, Carolyn

Install or Reinstall Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • How can i reset or restore to factory settings my macbook pro 7.1?

Guys, I need your help.. any genius out there who can help me?? i just want to reset/restore my macbook pro 7.1 from its orginal factory settings... how can i do this without deleting my OS and words and excel? thank you so much.. any help is very much appreciated.. Thanks again!

just make the system setting like form factory.
Can't have it both ways.  "Refreshing" w/o deleting programs and restoring to factory level are 2 different things.  Also, it depends on which OS system you have.  You did not mention this in any of your postings nor have you included your system info.
You have to decide which do you actually want to do?
Archive & Install (if your OS allows)
Erase the HD (restore to factory level)

  • Restore to Factory Settings for MacBook Pro?

I want to delete everything from the Hard Drive and restore it to factory settings, as if it were a new computer. I just felt like it was way too cluttered, too much on it, and slowed everything down.
I backed everything up already, now I just want to restore it to factory settings.
    I have Mac OS X 10.6.8
    Snow Leopard.
The problem is, I bought it in 2010, and I lost the start up disks along the way.
All the message boards I've seen, I need the disks. How can I do it without the start up disks?
I want to just restore it to factory settings and then upgrade to OS X Mavericks.
    Can someone help me?
    Thank you so much!

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Reformat to factory settings - disc not working

i'm trying to reset my macbook to factory settings and it says that the disc is dirty and can't be used (they are the original cd's that came with it). i just used it a couple of month ago and it worked fine and i checked it and cleaned it even though nothing seams to be wrong with it. no scratches either. any other way to reset it? any advice?
    thank you

Here's a nice little twist on the issue. For all those whose bluetooth keyboards or mightmouses stop responding try this:
    1. don't reset bluetooth or relaunch finder or anything.
    2. Go to your wi-fi settings (next to your battery icon) and turn off Airport, then turn it back on.
For me this also clears the issue and my mighty mouse and keyboard start responding again.
So for me this and turning on/off bluetooth works. Here's another Mac forum with the same issue:

    I'm sure there are others.

  • Where do I change the first name of the city I put in the address field of my MacBook Pro in June 2009?

When I finally got my MacBook Pro 15 in June 2009 I tore it open and began hastily setting it up. In my haste, I accidently chose a town or zipcode town 20 miles north of me as to where I live. Unfortunately, when there are specials in that area, or something is happening that I might otherwise be interested in...I am not because a 20 mile drive here seems like an eternity. Can someone tell me how to change the city in the original set-up and where it is stored so that I might change it to reflect my true city.
    Thank you,
    Jim

You can see number of charging cycles in System Profiler , under Power.
In regards to your battery/charger issues one thing - try to switch your computer off, take the battery out, and hold power button for 5 (10, just for a sake of it seconds.
Then put battery back in, and try to charge it/power it up. It's amazing how many issues can this solve...

  • Trackpad issues on Macbook Pro, new June 2009

I have been unable to resolve a trackpad issue that began this afternoon on my Macbook Pro. The computer was new in June. I was playing an online computer game, and it seemed that drag was locked on even though I hadn't changed any settings. Movements of the mouse dragged the window. The drag would not release with 1 click, 2 finger click etc. When I tried typing, the letters selected and replaced as soon as I typed new ones. After several restarts with the same behavior occurring, I reloaded the Snow Leopard 10.6 OS. I originally installed it about 2 weeks ago, and it has been working fine until now. After the reinstallation, the trackpad will not register most clicks of the trackpad. It will register taps, but it refuses to let the user click and drag. I have Microsoft Vista installed in Boot Camp and the trackpad is operating with the same glitches on boot camp. Clicks of the trackpad do not register most of the time. If they do, I have to click very hard, and even then it doesn't always work.

    Be paticent.
You can try a SMC reset:

Follow the directions that apply to your machine regarding battery, remove or don't remove yourself.
Try with a USB mouse in the mean time.

  • Macbook pro 13" june 2009 fan rpm remains at 2000 rpm when temp is 85c

    Hi,
I've just bought a new macbook pro 13 inch and updated software vis software update.
I've noticed that the fan rpm went to 2700 rpm on every boot but
after a few minutes it goes down to 2000 no matter the temperature is
I'm using iStatPro to see the temp and fan
I've tried open youtube videos to raise the temperature to 71 but the fan remains the same at 2000
    Please advise.
    Thank you

    Thank you for the info
I've just tried resetting the SMC but no luck.
since this is my first mac computer so I'm not sure if this is normal or not
after an investigation with different scenarios of work load I found that
    room temp : 27c
    cold boot : cpu 45c
    : fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
    warm boot : cpu 58c
    : fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
    running parallels
    with windows 7
and visual studio : cpu 75c
    : fan 2000 rpm
The fan did kick in to 3500 rpm once the temp is 85c
I'm not sure if this is normal or not since my Dell M1330 xps
which running vista and visual studio shows only
    cpu: 58c
    fan: 3000rpm
    Thank you
I'm not thinking about using SMC fan control to set the default to 3000 rpm
and use it only when I work on Windows but not sure if the program will damage
    my new baby or not
    Thank you

Hey, is there any difference in a macbook pro from May 2009 vs. one from June? I don't keep up with new releases so I'm not too certain.

I think what I'm going to do is refer you to an articles and a bench mark test that go over the differences.
