Refresh a folder

How do I refresh a folder and how do I refresh a ftp link? This is something I have no clue about. I know how to refresh a safari page.
Any ideas would be great

There isn't a built-in "refresh" command in Mac OS X for the Finder (as much as I wish there was). But I've had success with stubborn folders that won't refresh in a timely manner by simply creating a new folder in it which will automatically trigger a refresh. You can then delete the newly created folder. I know it's kind of a pain, but it works. Not sure what you mean by "FTP link", care to elaborate?

Does iPhoto refresh a folder of images?

First of all: what a stunning bit of kit! While I have had iPhoto in one form or another I have not really had time to give it a work through and it is certainly impressive.
I suppose I need guidance on two matters:
1 - is it possible to have two libraries?
Reason: working with digital camera images is one aspect but I also do some creative artwork/images and would prefer one library for images from digital cameras and another library for creative artwork (whether abstract or adjusted images)

I suppose this has more to do with creative artwork or image adjustments where some adjustments are made and stored into a source folder with details already in iPhoto. Will the additional images after iPhoto import update or can iPhoto be prompted to update?

Yes - you can have any number of iPhoto libraries - to create a new one depress the option key and launch iPhoto and use the create library option - option launching and using the select library option allows you switch between libraries - iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - is a great told for managing multiple libraries

No - you can not update iPhoto with changes made outside of iPhoto - you can set a different editor for doing iPhoto edits which will work fine

REPORTS folder does not appear when refreshing dynamic templates

Hi all,
I got one issue when refreshing dynamic templates. For one application, the REPORTS folder does not appear under Eexcel folder.
It works well on my quality environment, but it fails on production server.
It seems there is no differences in security settings, SP version...
I already tried deleting Outlooksoft folder, clear and refresh local folder in client options...
I must miss something but I dont know what to check anymore.
Any suggestion is welcome.

Hi Neil,
I do not have issue with what you mention, everything is ok in Webfolder.
The problem is in the local folder of every user in My Documents folder.
There is a folder Outlooksoft there that is refreshed automatically after connecting to BPC.
Every reports under REPORTS\WIZARDS should be there. Users need to access this folder to open a specific report.
What is strange is that it looks that it works for some users, but does not work for some other users...
Might be security settings?

Discoverer 10.1.2 does not refresh new added column

Hello,
I need help to add a new item to EUL Business Area folder for a new added column in the database table.
When I refresh the folder in the BA EUL, the result shows no difference between the folder and the underlying table in the database; however, when I quey the table in the database, a new column is there. The refresh of the folder in the Discoverer Admin tool cannot find the newly added column. Weird!! The first time saw this problem.
Could someone shine some light on it? Would be really appreciate it!

I have a slightly different problem and can't solve it! When I refresh the EUL, the result shows the differences between the folder and the underlying tables in the database. However, it does not refresh the EUL in Discoverer Administrator 10g. Nothing happens! When I try to refresh again, the same list is shown... Does anyone know what could be happening?

How do I turn off the Read Only Folder attribute

I have created a new drive for a Windows Server 2012 and have tried formatting it with various ways. Each time I format the drive, when I create a folder, the read only attribute is set and I can't turn it off. I have looked at other forums for
similar issues and all suggest using the attrib function. This appears to work, but when I refresh the folder, the read only is back on.
Even after assigning permissions, I can create files in the folders, but I cannot modify them in MS Office or any other application. Any ideas on how to resolve this. It appears to be alot of recurring posts for the same issue with no results.

Windows Explorer does not allow you to view or change the Read-only or System attributes of folders. When a folder has the Read-Only attribute set it causes Explorer to request the Desktop.ini of that folder to see if any special folder settings need
to be set.

You mentioned that you cannot modify the file created in the folders. Can you modify a txt file? Please check if you have modify permissions on that files.

Can I sync my scandisk to a desktop folder?

I'm a total newbie to the forums and to Macs for that matter.
Anyhow, I've got a little 256MB flash drive (Scandisk).
If possible, I'd like to know if OSx has any function or setting to automatically refresh a folder on my iMac from the contents of my flash drive (and vice-versa).
Could I set something up to refresh both locations (folder and flash drive) with newest versions of files one or the other?

There is no file sychronizing built into OS X, but you can find numerous syncing utilities by searching macupdate.com or versiontracker.com

Outlook 2007: unable to automatically refresh calendar

Hello,
With Outlook 2007 and OCFO 10.1.3.10 we can't get outlook to automatically refresh the calendar view so that events inserted in another client (i.e. same user on the web client or on the native ocal client, or another user) are seen.
Tools->Refresh Selected Folder(s) causes the events to turn up (eventually).
I've set the server refresh interval to 3 minutes, but despite several mail refreshes, I'm not getting any calendar refreshes.
Has anyone any ideas on how to get this working?

Field rename in DB, how to refresh Business Area?

I'm the Discoverer Administrator and one of the underlying
tables in my database has has a field name change. How do
I "refresh" the table/folder in the business area I created? I
don't want to loose any customization I've done for that
table/folder. I have no joins on the renamed field.

highlight the folder in the Admin edition and press Control+R.
This will refresh the folder and reflect that the old field name
is not available and show the addition of the new field.

Photo files not appearing after refreshing

I've added some photos to my website root folder and for some reason they won't show up in my files list. It has worked for me before but when I refresh the folder it won't show the files. I've even restarted my computer and everything and still no luck. I'm using CS4 and Vista. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Are you running DW CS4 with Vista Administrator Privileges? Right click DW icon > Advanced.
Have the photos been saved for the web first in RBG mode as JPG or PNG filetype?

Explorer folder update issues Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server

Hi Folks,
We are having a few issues here. We have a cluster of 5 Server 2008 X64 R2 SP1 Terminal Servers running Citrix Xenapp 6. Our file server is a Server 2008 R2 SP1 server also. All servers are virtualised on ESX vSphere 4.0 and are connected to an EMC
FC SAN.
The users have an application which references a mapped drive (K in this example). This mapped drive is populated with contents from a network scanner. The file extensions change from PDF, JPEG, JPG and GIF. The files are stored on the 2K8 X64 R2 file server.
This all works fine, however the users are getting intermittent 'refresh' problems if you will. Sometimes after the user scans to the folder they will not see the item which was scanned however another user on the _same_ server will be able to see the item
that has just been scanned to file. If I login to the server via remote desktop I can also see the files also. It can take from 2minutes to 30minutes before the users explorer will actually refresh and be able to see the files. During this time if the user
creates a folder in the my documents which is also redirected/hosted on the 2K8 R2 file server they see the changes immediately. If the user logs in and logs out of the Terminal Server the file which was scanned is immediately available to the user.
**NOTE** this problem does not occur every time
Below is a list of the things that I have tried
Changing the Icon size and layout under explorer
Changing the layout from thumbnails to list etc
Disabled SMB 2.0
Completed SMB tuning for Xenapp and Explorer on the limit of concurrent connections etc
Disabled Windows Search
Disabled Indexing
Changed the folder to be both offline and online
Index offline and online folders
Disabled "Client for Microsoft Networks" on the network card
Disabled IPV6 on both Terminal Servers and File server
Ran filemon in compatibility mode on the file server (I can see the file being created)
I have changed the scanning location on the 2K8 R2 file server to no avail
I have checked the file share and it is indeed set to Maximum allow concurrent connections
Checked Perfmon and the disk queue is running about 0.4
I'm now at a loss.. any advise would be great! thanks folks.

Meanwhile, I would give you the following suggestions for your reference:
1.
By default, Windows Explorer generates a lot of SMB traffic - which can result in poor file server performance in some circumstances.
However, some of this traffic is superfluous and can be reduced - for example:
•Searches for Desktop.ini files used for folder customization
•Periodic refreshes of folder contents
•Searches for supporting library (.dll) files
•Individual file details and attributes pulled for each file
•Thumbnail extraction
There are some registry changes you can implement to optimize the SMB traffic being generated.
Import the settings below on client machines.
Terminal Servers running in Application Mode should be considered client machines in this scenario.

Please try to temporarily disable all firewall and anti-virus software to check whether this issue can be fixed.

Please check if the problematic user is still on one switch. If so, I would guess there is an issue on switch.
In this case, you’re using Citrix when this issue happens. I suggest you contact Citrix engineer to particularly ask whether they saw the

One local file folder always opens

DW9 / CS3
In one of local file location, one particular folder always
opens itself even after I have closed it and refreshed the site
cache.
I have about 25 folders total in this site. The one folder
giving me trouble is titled "banners" and contains only image
files. If that folder is closed and I press Refresh, the folder
then opens.
If I close the folder "banners" and open any other folder and
then press Refresh, the folder Banners opens.
If I close the folder Banners, close Dreamweaver, delete the
configuration folder, re-open Dreamweaver, the Banners folder
automatically opens on startup.
This is only happening in this particular local site. This is
not happening in the other other local sites that I have where
certain folders only hold image files.

This sounds like you have a corrupted user config folder and DW is not recognizing the file types.
First back up all your site definitions, then uninstall DW, delete your user configuration folder and then reinstall DW and any extensions you may have.

There is a gotcha with this in that if there is a schema in the local database by the same name as the schema in the remote database you will not be able to import the definition for any of the remote objects. This is a known bug.
The workaround is as follows:
1. Create a dummy folder in your business area that points to a known object in the local database. Make sure also that you have only one item in the folder.
2. Determine the database link.
3. Determine the owner of the data.
4. If the owner’s schema does not exist in the local database, use Discoverer’s normal Import folder from database procedure.
5. If the owner’s schema does exist in the local database, continue from here.
6. Locate and click on the Dummy Folder heading.
7. Press CTRL-C.
8. Click on the business area heading.
9. Press CTRL-V to paste a new copy of the template.
10. Right-click on the copy; and from the pop-up list select Properties.
11. Rename the folder and give it a new identifier.
12. Click on <Default Database>.
13. The Choose Database and User dialog box will open.
14. Click anywhere in <Default Database> and from the drop-down list select the actual database that you want to use. The system will display a list of all users in the new database.
15. From the list of users, select the owner that you want to work with, and then click OK.
16. Discoverer will tell you the folder is invalid. When it displays the warning, click OK.
17. The Folder Properties dialog box will now have the Database and Owner properties populated.
18. Click in Object. Discoverer will display the Choose Table or View dialog box, with the Owner selected in step 15 highlighted.
19. Click the + key alongside the Owner. Discoverer will now display a list of all database tables and views owned by the user you selected.
20. From the list of objects, select the object you want to import, and then click OK.
21. The final settings on the Folder Properties dialog box should now have the correct settings.
22. Click OK.
23. Right-click on the new folder; and from the pop-up list select Refresh.
24. As you only have one option, click Finish.
25. Discoverer will now import the new data definitions and present you with a Refresh screen.
26. The origina named item in your folder may or may not be available. If it exists in the new table you are fine. If it does not exist you will see it flagged as being unavailable. If Discoverer does flag it as being unavailable you need to check the box alongside.
27. To complete the refresh, click OK. Discoverer will refresh the folder and it will now be available for use within your business area.

Orphan folder? Help!

I have create a business folder containing many folders.
When I sign into reports, I see all the folders in that business folder except one! How can I get that folder to appear.
It's weird. I have gone into tool/manage folders....nothing.
I have gone into tool on the report side and made sure I was logged in correctly...everything checks. How can I possibly see all the folders except one?
Doesn't make sense.

Javiar, try refreshing the folder. To do this, you should be in the admin too. Click on the folder you want to refresh. Hold the control key down and press R. This will bring up the refresh from database dialogue.
You want to be sure to read all of the dialogues. Particulary the ones related to the differences found.
It is quite possible that the underlying object is changed or if it is a view, that the view is invalid. This should high-lite the problem. You can select cancel from this dialoque to repair the view if necessary or change properties in Discovere to point to appropriate columns.

Refreshing the war on the fly

I need some idea. I have designed a photogallery. I'm placing the image folders inside the server's war folder and i'm retriving the images. For eg : D:/Tomcat/webapps/Sampweb/images. Until now it works fine. But my requirement is i'm creating the folder dynamically and moving the images files in that dynamic folder. But that new folder is not detected in the war folder. But it is available in the physical location. and once i refresh the folder tree in the war it is detecting the images. Is there any other way that i can refresh the war folder dynamically.

Explorer doesn't refresh when moving/deleting

I recently started using W8 and at the moment when i change the name of a file or add a new file to a folder i have to manually refresh the folder in order to view the change. I have read about similar problems in W7 but the solutions dont seem to work.

I found a fix for my situation that had identical symptoms as yours. After tons of Googling and trying numerous suggestions and nearly resorting to a reinstall, I found my problem was SIMPLE! I had noticed that there were some times when I could change a
file/folder and it responded instantly, so I started to observe what was unique. I noticed if I browsed to folders in Windows File Explorer under "This PC", any changes/refreshes worked fine, but if I browsed to the same folders by going into
any folders pinned under "Favorites", they needed to be manually refreshed or revisited. It turns out the problem was the links in Favorites were broken. I copied my user profile in the past during the install of Windows 8 and so some of these links were referencing
the old "Start In" path on the shortcuts. SOLUTION FOR ME: Delete any custom links in Favorites, then browse to the folder in This PC and drag it back to Favorites to create a new, correct link. Works like magic now.
