Refresh all Discoverer Portlets at once

I have 20 Discoverer Portlets and 10 users (they are using private connections). My objective is to run the refresh of portlets at once automatically.
Any suggestions?

You can set the scheduled refresh to occur at your chosen time automatically. It works pretty good compared to manual refresh even with parameter based portlets.
For example if you want to refresh every week on Monday @ 7AM type in may 12, 2008 and also 7:00AM and say refresh weekly.
Hope this helps,
-Esther

  • Refresh ALL Portlets

    Hi,
I have around 150 discoverer portlets in portal. How do I refresh all the portlets automatically when the underlying table data got changed.
    Thanks
    Aman

The issue you are experiencing is an issue for the discoverer portlet developers not the portal architecture. Depending on how the portlets have been built will govern how you can legislate for this. If the portlets are caching in the file cache using expiry based caching then you can simply clear out the cache folder of the middle tier (however this will blow away everything). If the portlets are cached in webcache using invalidation based caching then you can clear the webcache as described by the earlier respondent. However, if the portlets have been written correctly they should ultimately manage themselves. Ping (or validation based) caching should check the data in the cache with the data in the db and generate a cache hit or miss depending on the state of the data.
Whichever caching type has been used (assuming any) you will still need to go back to the portlet developers as ultimately it is they who have taken the decisions on the caching methodology, the portal framework cannot provide for a poorly implemented portlet caching strategy.

  • Cannot find discoverer portlet in portlet repository (9iAS rel2)

I would like to use discoverer portlet in my portal page. I have already install 9iAS 9.0.2.0.1 + 9iAS discoverer patch (9.0.2.5.3) and also patch 9iDS Discoverer to the same version (all products on Windows 2000). Then register the discoverer provider, it was successfully. But when I tried to add discoverer portlet from my portal page, I cannot find discoverer portlet provider in the repository. This happen without any errors. Any suggestion ?

Try to refresh your Discoverer Portlet Provider. It should do the trick.

  • Refreshing Discoverer Portlets

Using 9iAS R2, we have set up discoverer portlets on our intranet and have serveral scheduled worksheets which display within portlets.
On one report I have scheduled it to run once an hour and I have also set the Discoverer worksheet porlet to refresh on an hourly basis - which it seems to do.
However, the data is not updating at all. It is only when we actually open the worksheet using Discoverer Plus and save that data in the Portlet refreshes.
When users click on the 'view worksheet' link and open Discoverer Viewer the correct data appears
Perhaps I have missed something . . is there another way to ensure that the data shown in the portlets is refreshed?

I believe that the refresh is set as a DBMS_JOB in the database, however, I have no clue where this is set, obviously somewhere in the product and/or identity metadata database depending on your configuration. Something that might be an easier solution is use something like HTTPClient from the Apache Foundation (http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/httpclient/) and write a small app that logs into portal as an administrator and then calls each portlet's refresh URL in order. It know its a workaround, however, it should work, that being said I've never tried it. I don't know if I'll get time to write it, but if someone gets a chance to write it before I do please shoot me the code :P

When specifying refresh information in a Discoverer Portlet (step 6 I think) where is this information stored?

  • Discoverer Portlet security

Once a discoverer portlet has been added to portal, only the user that added the portlet can edit it. The only workaround I can think of is for all administrators to use one generic user to add and edit discoverer portlets.
Does anyone else have ANY other suggestions?

Got it...i can figure that out using fnd_global.resp_id.

  • Virtual Host change doesnt update discoverer portlet provider image locatio

We have recently created a virtual host for our oracle portal. Original was CUKPORTAL.cseu.root.local and the new virtual hosts created were bi.portal.uk (bi tier) my.portal.uk and sso.portal.uk (for IMT).
All pages, images , portlets were updated to reflect the new URL's except for the discoverer portlet provider. Actually , it works fine except for the lcoation of the portlets reference to the original icons for the list of worksheets portlet. When we see the page source behind the html page where the portlet is on , I can see that the images (like the expand workbook image) , still reference the old URL ie CUKPORTAL.cseu.root.local:7780.....etc
We have re-registered the provider with the new URL , ie bi.portal.uk:7779 etc but although the portlets can be called and placed in pages , the images do not appear as a result of the location to the images.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the last problem before we go live.

    Hi,
Its good that u pasted the complete log file. In your environment you have to run this upgrade tool only once from any of the middle tier.
And with respect to your error that u got in precheck is quite simple. All u have to do is just run this script from by connecting to portal schema using sqlplus.
    Run dropupg.sql
    Location-------- /raid/product/OraHome_1/upgrade/temp/portal/prechktmp/dropupg.sql
Later you re-run the upgrade tool and let me know the status.
    Good luck

  • Discoverer Portlets Example

    Hi All Gurus !
A very simple question. Where can I find a working example / proper documentation about how to deploy Discoverer worksheets into the 9ias R2 Portal ?
Is there a predefined Provider for this or do I need to create one or what ? I have tried to read through documentation related to this but can't find the Providers that should exist by default (or should they ?) in the Portal.
Similar problems with Reports rdf publishing through the Portal...but that's another thread :-)
Thank you very much in advance for helping out with this!
    Cheers,
    Kalle

If you're getting the "discoverer portlet is busy", you want to check which database connect string is used.
    1. Log onto hostname.domain:1810 (EM Website)
    2. Click on the 9iAS mid-tier
    3. Click on the <mid-tier>.hostname.domain_discoverer link
    4. Click on update on the General Discoverer Configuration
    5. Ensure if you have connection to the db instance (username /password). Connect String that can be found on Oracle9iAS_midtier_home/Network/ADMIN/tnsnames.ora. Verify that entry in tnsnames.ora file is being used in your public connection from EM. Although part of the connection in EM refers to "database" you may want to populate this parameter with the database "connection String" that you can find in the tnsnames.ora file. Once you have created the connection in EM. Try http://<hostname.domain>:7779/discoverer/plus and see if you could use the predefined connection to connect to the database you're basing your analysis on.

    Thank you for your reply,
I can see the PortletProvider page and I can register it with the portal. I can even see the 2 portlets that it exposes.
Unfortunately when I add them to a page or try to preview them I first get an Internal error 500 and after that start getting a "discoverer portlet is busy" message with both of the portlets.
This does not generate any error logs anywhere in the system as far as I can see.

  • Slow performance of discoverer portlets

    Hi,
I am running into slow performance of a particular page in portal, there are multiple sites hosted on the portal but these all have static text and are very quick to load but the one page with discoverer portlets and a web-clippping portlet is taking ages. If I run these reports on their own they are instant. Has anyone had similar problems with 9.0.2 portal and the discoverer reports ? I tried to identify a particular report that may be the culprit by deleting them one by one and to no avail. After a few hours effort I found the design mode was hanging as well. Again, just for this 1 page.
There are 3 tabs on this page with about 4 report portlets and 1 web-clipping portlet.
    Thanks for any help,
    Brandon

    Thanks for the help.
Seems to have been resolved although I'm not sure if thats the end of the story. Will wait and see.....
So far apparently a port conflict of some sort in the discoverer config was causing it to hang and then also other system demands on the network and server housing the discoverer end-user layer were also causing problems.
    No error messages unfortunately......
