Refresh Structure in IDT

Hi Gurus,
I am new to IDT.
Whenever I make changes to the data source (SAP BW Infocube), and within my Data Foundation in IDT, I use the "Refresh Structure" feature, the changes are seen & completed. But however these changes are not updated in my business layer. So that i am unable to view newly created objects in webi reports and dashboards.
Q) Does "Refresh Structure" option will not update automatically in business layer?
If not how to update?. How to "Remap Data foundation layer". Please let me know step by step procedure if possible.

To build a universe on SAP BW, you must create a multisource-enabled data foundation based on a secured relational connection to SAP BW.
And to fix the issue, Please check the below note:
1770390 - Changes to BW characteristic are not recognized in the Information Design Tool (IDT)
A temporary solution to this problem is to create a new Relation Connection, Data foundation & Business Layer after the changes have been made.
A permanent solution has been tracked under ADAPT01636012 which provides a fix in Patch 4.4 for SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.0

Unable to refresh structure for Universe based on SAP cubes

Hi ,
We have installed the XI R2 integration kit on Unix server successfully. WebI & Crystal are working fine on SAP data.
But when I try to refresh the structure of BW query based universe the option doesn't show up (It's greyed out).
I tried 'refresh structure' option on efashion universe and it works fine.
Also, in the Designer login I dont see SAP authentication type as an option. Do we have to install any integration kit for Client as well?
(BO is installed on Unix server)
Please help me out with these problems.

This is only available in XI 3.0 onwards.

Reporting Structure in IDT

Hi,
I want to create a sample structure for reporting (i.e. Web Intelligence) in IDT.
Details can be seen in the screenshot below.
So far, I found out that derived tables can be used for creating such structures.
However, I'm not sure how to define with mulriple values and also with includes, excludes and groupings.
Can someone suggest a solution and help me with this?

Thanks for the answer.
Report will only prompt for a date, that's all.
It will be even scheduled with a dynamic date (e.g yesterday).
So, I guess that will not work.
PS : this structure will have more rows. Therefor I can't create tables and bring them together like a single one.

Best practices for Refreshing Unv Structure for SAP based universes

This may sound basic and I apologize for asking this, but the refresh structure in SAP based universes is somewhat different from noraml universes.
Here is what i'd like to do:
- Hide all the L00 objects.
- Rename all the L01 objects and move them to a new Class.
- Change some of the detail (attribute) objects to dimension objects.
- Hide the format and Unit for key figures.
- Hide all of the classes/subclasses that get automatically generated when a SAP based universe is created.
I have noticed that when I do the above and refresh the universe, it assumes that all these objects have gone missing from the original classes and adds them back to the universe.
I also want to make sure that if the select of an object gets updated and the object is re-named, then it should automatically pick up the change.
Lastly, I have some reports which were built prior to this renaming. I want to make sure that the reports do not break.

This thread is really old.
Yes it was a common problem back in the earlier XI 3.x days . a lot of bugs in this area were eliminated by the time of XI 3.1 SP03 FP3.x - you don't quote your version.
Actually, you need to be aware that a refresh structure is often not needed, and can corrupt the olap universe . Pls check out Note 1278216 - What are the best practices for OLAP Universe Change Management when using SAP Integration Kit?
in essence :
Only use 'Refresh Structure' functionality If:
- A new Object (Dimension/Characteristic) has been added to the BEx query (Rows/Columns/Free Characteristics)
- A new Variable Restriction has been added to the Bex query Filters
Do not use 'Refresh Structure' functionality after:
- Having modified a STRUCTURE in BEx. i.e. 'Detail view of Formula' or 'Details of Selection', or changing the General Description of structure members.
- Doing manual actions on objects/classes in the OLAP Universe like: Move ; Cut/Paste ; Drag/Drop ; Hide ; Delete.
(because these workflow can lead to corruption)

Issues with 'Structure Refresh' of OLAP Universe!

I have a report based on .unv which in turn is based on a BEx query. I need to update the universe to retrieve objects I recently added to my Bex      query.   I am facing the following issues while refreshing the universe structure through Universe Design Tool.
When the option ‘Delete Obsolete objects’ is checked in the update wizard, UDT closes out.   I then have to restart UDT.
When the option ‘Delete Obsolete objects’ is checked, UDT hides almost all objects and classes with the exception of 1/2 classes and affixes ## before their name.
     I am attaching a screengrab after the refresh is complete when the ‘hide obsolete objects’ option was checked. (No objects in the below screenshot were modified in BEx. This may help you make sense of the error.

I understand I can create a new universe on Bex query and copy the new objects onto my existing universe. This way I wouldnt have to deal with refreshing structure of the universe.   However, I need to find the cause of this issue and see if it can be fixed. I am using BO 4.0 SP5.

I tried many times but I still cannot reproduce the issue.
In my environment (SharePoint2013+SP1), I insert a list webpart in a web part page within "Pages" library, then enable the web part properties as you mentioned and save the page, then use first user account(e.g. Administrator)
to edit/change the webparty "selected view" property option and click "Apply", and meanwhile the second user account with full control permission keeps this webpart page opening in view mode with IE browser on another
machine, 30 seconds later, the webpart content refreshed, however it doesn't change to Edit mode for the second user.
Could you please provide more information/step to let us reproduce this issue?
Does that "When one of the user is editing the list view" mean change the list view of the web part on webpart page?
Have you tried creating another pages library and pages, then insert another test list web part in your environment, see if it could be reproduce and compare the diference?

SAP BI 4.0 IDT

i have noted one issue in IDT.Refresh structure is not updating newly added database columns.It is reflecting in data foundattion layer but in business layer it is not reflecting.If we tried to manually add in business alyer , it is getting the wrong mapping.

After completing the refresh sstructure you have to remap the DFL to the Businesslayer
Then only you will get reflect the datafoundation changes into the business layer.

Webi refresh from Excel

Hi All,
I have created a universe based on an Excel file with columns as Material Number, Order Qty, Status and am reading this data from a Webi report. The data seems to be showing correctly the first time I create this new Webi and read data.
If I now go back and change any data in underlying Excel file, the Webi refuses to show the new entries and will still be showing the old entries. I have purged the webi report but still no joy.
Could anyone tell me why it is failing to read the changes? Is there anything that needs to be done on the IDT itself to get the data refreshed?

Hi,
Did you do refresh structure in Data Foundation layer and republish to repository?.
If the above steps are done already then go to WebI>> Data tab >> select the same universe and excel >> remap the objects and refresh the reports. This should work.

SAP BW Bex Queries as Data source WIS 10901 Error while refreshing

Hi,
I have created a Web Intelligence report based on Universe upon SAP BEx queries.
When I refresh the report, I get the following error:
A database error occured. The database error text is: the supplied XML is not valid. [Measures].[4ASYKV5XU5T].(WIS 10901)
Report was fine for a day. I started showing error from today.
This is my first report and Universe based on SAP BEx queries. I do not have knowledge of SAP system as well.
Please help.

It is because that Measure object definition changed @BEx. Measures.4ASYKV5XU5T
Can you check @BEx query for any latest changes??
OR
Go to Universe Designer:
1. Open Universe
2. View == Refresh Structure
3. Can you see any updates now?? OK
4. Save Universe
5. Export it
Now open the Report. It will work now, if all Objects are there at Bex query & Universe level.
Along with this Do integrity check @Universe also before exporting.

How to select different database columns in a single BO Universe Object

We have 'n' databases. All the databases have identical tables and views but some tables in few database have custom columns.
Ex. 'database1' has table 'sites' with the following columns
1. sitenumber
2. sitename
3. siteaddress
4. phone
5. email
6. ActivatedDate
'database2' has table 'sites' with the following columns
1. sitenumber
2. sitename
3. siteaddress
4. phone
5. email
6. ActivatedDate
7. LocalActivatedDate
The condition says that
"Local Activated date will be used if populated in the system otherwise Activated Date will be used"
How do i create a condition at the universe level which checks whether the column "LocalActivatedDate" is present in the database or not. Also, how to give a condition which select between "ActivatedDate" and "LocalActivatedDate"
A single universe needs to be created for all the databases. Only the Default Database in connection parameter changes during deployment.
Can this be achieved using BO Universe Designer only?

Create a universe with your default connection and then while changing the universe connection you can write an SDK script using universe designer sdk do a REFRESH STRUCTURE so that all the you will get the schema same as current DB and then you can add predefined condition or object to this universe (before doing this keep a copy of the universe) .
You have to do a lot of stuff to keep your universe proper and stable to work with all the databases using designer SDK.
Can achieve this but with an overhead of writing and calling SDK scripts again and again . ...

Olap Universe Based on BEx Query - Cascading Prompt

I need to get two prompts: 1) Division 2) Group. Division has to be selected first and then Group. I understand I have to create cascading prompt. In the universe, in default hierarchy, group stands before before division. I have created a custon hierarchy like: Division, Group. I used Tools -> List of Values ->Create cascading list of values and then selected the right dimensions and then clicked on Generate LOVs. Then I have exported it to the repository. But I cannot see any reflection at the report level. So, some questions came in my mind:
1) Where can I check in the universe whether my cascading prompt has been created or not ?
2) I am using L01 Dimension. But underneath, there are two dimensions called LovDivision and LoVDivisionBase which are in Italic. I believe integration kit creates this. It is the same as Group. So, my question is: Am I selecting the right dimesnsions ? Or, should I select those in Italic.
3) Actually, these two prompts (variables) [along with others] are already created in BEx which I can see in my report. My plan is, if my cascading prompts work, I will tell the BW developer to remove those two. Do you think that these existing prompts are creating any problem.

Have you entered the cascading object in the webi query condition.At the run time it will generate hierarchy in the tree structure.

correct you are using right objects L01.By mdx driver it will create by default L00 and L01 objects.neglect the Lo00 objects.You can hide them in the universe or go to refresh structure and their is option to replace L00 definition with some other definition.

By default when you are creating universe based on the mdx drivers it will convert Bex query filters in the universe condition as mandatory filter and applied on the full universe.
You can go to the universe condition and open the condition and unchecked the option from their and after that these will not prompt in the webi query.

How Do You Get BO/Web-I To Not Show Duplicate Serial Numbers...

(Running Business Objects Release 2 (Web-I), No other reporting modules)
I have a "test" report for our product that we produce. Currently the report pulls in all tests in a given period. I want it to only pull in the "first test of the product", so I can measure what is called First Pass Yield" To do this I only want the first test of the product to show up.
Below is an example of the report. I have made the text "bold" for the rows which I do not want shown in the report (please note that I do not want the information deleted from the database, just not shown in this report)
Information about the report that you need to know to help:
1. The product is serialized.
2. Sometimes our product is tested several times in a given month if there were problems with it or it was upgraded during that month.
So, when I run a report for the month it shows the serial number in the first column, the test date and time in the second column and the test results in the third column. So the report will look something like this:

WEBI treats each column as single entity hence we canu2019t perform operation on particular value in column; also we canu2019t refer all values in record at a time.
I Tried applying filter at Universe level without modifying DB but I couldnu2019t find suitable functions like RunningCount in WEBI.
In WEBI you can use =RunningCount([Test_Date];([Board_SN])) using this we can count the number of tests performed for each product

But the Problem is either we can display whole duplicate records or we can suppress all duplicate records based on the Board SN. But canu2019t display only first record. Because the variable I created is at report level I canu2019t use it query panel query filter.
You can try following solution if it is feasible for you to modify DB a litte Bit as this modification in DB is also useful to track no. of test performed for each product.
1) Add column in DB as Tests_performed and add Serial No. as 1,2,3 for each product tested for each test.
2) Refresh the Universe structure. (View -> Refresh Structure )
3) Modify the universe by creating new object ( Test_performed) based on that column.
4) Export it to repository
5) Open WEBI use that object in query filter and use condition as Test_performed <2
6) You will get the data you want.

OBIEE 11G prompt values are not applying

Hi There,
I am using OBIEE11g, I have a dashboard which consist of a prompt.
In prompt I have filter condition on Start date and End date with default values, when I run the dashboard it gives me some ODBC error, it doesn't applly the default values.
But when I click apply button on the prompt, it gets executed for the default values.
What should I do?

Does the prompt variable condition is changed @BEx level ??
For all, what you did changes @BEx, will not automatically update the Universe.
To do the same job follow the suggested.
1. Open Universe
2. View == refresh Structure
3. Now you can see Updated things and deleted objects (######)
4. Say OK
5. Save Universe
6. Export it.
Now Open reports and see the LOV's showing up...

How to change the Data Base Relation in a universe?

We are working with BO 6.5a.One universe in connected to a 'DB2/400 (iSeries)' data base.
All Objects in a universe are related to a defined library like <libraryname>.<tablename>.<fieldname>.
We like to change the libraryname. Is there any chance to do this in the existing universe?
Why?
We like to have the same database two times in our System, only the data are different.
Details:
The universe of course points to a library (A) and connection is done with ODBC.
Changing ODBC to another library (B) is no problem; and, of course we then can change the tables in the universe manually => a lot of work.
But we like to change the pointer in the universe at once (each object shows to the library (A) and we want them to show at (B)).
The 'refresh structure' - button won't do it.

In the universe you can select all the tables Ctrl-A, right click and rename tables. Remove the reference to the library.

Organizational Unit Hierarchy in Universe

Hi expert,
I created a Universe from a query, in a query I have this Organizational Unit Hierarchy in the row column. In the Universe, I can see the Hierarchy name here but there is not L00 shown in the hierarchy and the level is starting from L01 to L07. After the Universe is created here, I created the report using Web Intelligence, when I add this L01 hierarchy in the report, I cannot see any data.
Does anyone here know why? I am new to this Universe and Web Intelligience.

Hi King,
When you generate a universe from a BEX query, you have to specify whether or not you want to generate a level 0 or not.
If you do not have the L00, you didn't op to do so. You can do this in a refresh structure or with a fresh generate (in the latter case, check your defaults).
Now L00 will be the "all" level. So that may not be your problem.
Did you select at least a key figure in your webI query?
Test what results you get for certain selections when you run the BEX query directly.
Then using the same conditions, you should get the same results in WebI.

Message is TK455 check ur UoM setting for decimal and If ur UoM decimal places setting is correct then,
To solve the problem, test the following procedure
    1. Call transaction SE54.
    2. Choose "Edit Function Group".
    3. Enter the function group VSTR.
    4. Select "Re-generate group-specific programs" and choose "Change"
    5. In the dialog box, select "Refresh structure-specific form routines" and choose ENTER.
