Refreshing a text field in an applet

I wrote a program which produced a lot of numbers as output. I installed this program into an applet by calling it from the start() override and converting the number to a string then placing it in a text field. However, it only seems to display the last number. I am getting the impression that the display is only refreshed when the applet finishes. Is this generally the case? I have put in a call to repaint() after each output but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I know the program is working because the numbers appear in the OUTPUT window in IDE too, as I have done a System.out.print.

Here is my crazy programme. I put a sleep in but no difference. If I append to the buffer then all goes on the same line, which is not what I want. Also all appear at once when the program completes, but I want to watch this thing running. It produces prime numbers and increasing mp makes it produce lots and lots of them.

  • Problem with Refreshing the data bound text fields

    Folks,
    First of all, this a GREAT product and I am moving my apps from Eclipse to Studio Creator. I am very impessed with it so far.
    I am gone through most tutorials, but can't help resolve the problem that I am having. I have a page, that lists all the users in a table. When you click on any user, it opens up another page that lists the detail of the specific user you have clicked on. This a typical use in most web applications, right?
    In the user detail page, I open it in "Read" only mode, by setting the "setReadOnly" to true for all text field components. Then users can edit it by clicking "Edit" button. Edit button just changes the "setReadOnly" to false, to allow editing. After editing, they can hit the "Save" button to save the changes. In the save button, I call this code:
    public void prerender() {
            try {
                userID=getSessionBean1().getUserID();
                getSessionBean1().getWeb_userRowSetUserDetail().setObject(1,userID);
                getWeb_userDataProviderUserDetail().refresh();
                info("prerender: Refresh called");
            } catch (Exception ex) {
                error("Error in userForm.prerender():"+ex.getMessage()+ex.getStackTrace());
                log("Error in userForm.prerender():", ex);
            setReadWrite();
    public String btnSave_action() {
            try {
                getWeb_userDataProviderUserDetail().commitChanges();
                getWeb_userDataProviderUserDetail().refresh();
                info("Data Provider Refreshed in SAVE");
                _readOnly=true;
                form1.discardSubmittedValues("saveVForm");
                info("User Updated New:"+userID);
            } catch (Exception ex) {
                log("Error Description", ex);
            return null;
        public String btnEdit_action() {
            try {
                _readOnly=false;
                //info("User ID Edt="+getSessionBean1().getUserID());
            } catch (Exception ex) {
                error("Error in userForm.btnEdit_action:"+ex.getMessage()+ex.getStackTrace());
                log("Error in userForm.btnEdit_action():", ex);
            return null;
        private void setReadWrite(){
            // Set read-only to true or false for all text fiels
            this.btnEdit.setVisible(_readOnly);
            this.btnSave.setVisible(!_readOnly);
            this.user_id.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_email_client.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_email_office.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_fname.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_lname.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_id.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_password.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_password_conf.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_phone_cell.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_phone_cell_aac.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_phone_client.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_phone_home.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
            this.user_phone_office.setReadOnly(_readOnly);
        }When the save button is clicked, the database is updated (as I can verify by looking directly into the database), but the data-bound text fields do not display the new value. YES, I am calling refresh() on data provider? I tried to call refresh in both "preRender()" and "Save" button action event, but that did not help either.
    Please note that the save button also changes the "setReadOnly" back to TRUE for all text fields. That means, users view the page in Read-Only mode after saving. (They have to click on "Edit" button again to edit it). I discovered that if I do not set the text field components in "ReadOnly" mode, then they display the updated value of the fields. But if I change setReadOnly to TRUE, then they display the old values (before the save).
    Any idea what I am doing wrong here?
    Thanks

    Here is my experience with it. I have three text
    boxes to be filled out. They are part of a virtual
    form with an add button as the submit. You can fill
    out the 3 and add them and a node is added to a tree
    component. When you click on a node in the tree
    component (the submit to another virtual form that
    the 3 buttons participate in) the text fields should
    be loaded with the values that they where added with.Hard to tell from this explanation, but if the text fields do not participate in a virtual form, then they are not going to get updated when an action in the virtual form happens. Not sure this is your problem. Like I say, hard to tell from this explanation.
    They will not display the values though...having
    nothing to do with read only. If I disable them
    before hand...they display the updated values. If I
    set their value at the top or bottom of prerender,
    they display the change...if I set the value in an if
    conditional that is hit (I have checked many times)
    in prerender, they will not display the values. If I
    set them in the tree handler anywhere, they will not
    display the values. This is very frustrating and is
    wasting tons of my time...I simply want to load the
    text fields based on the tree node that was
    clicked...I have messed with this for hours and it
    certainly does not work.Well, setting them in the tree handler won't work because the tree handler gets called in the page instance that handles the submit and not the page instance that renders the response.
    Posting your prerender code might help. Also, your action handler.

    How to make add the program system.out messages to a applet text field?
    System.out.println("I wanna displany this message on a applet text field, thanks");

    You may wish to change the output destination to a JTextArea. Please have a look at this link that likely shows what you want:

  • Refresh text field

    hey,
    I've an active output text component which should be updated as the data is changed in the database. I've already tried af:poll but it creates a problem when used in the template.
    I've seen some descriptions on active data services which I think would a solution to this problem. but I couldn't find any example as to how this could be done.
    So how can I use active data services to update the text field value when the changes are made in the db or can anyone guide me to an example?
    thanks

  • Trying to use web app text field to redirect a page.

    I am trying to create a web app, that will provide 'members' with a page that they can use to redirect to other pages of their choice. What I want to do is allow the member user to select (from a dropdown menu, or even input their own into a text field) a specific url (i.e. http://www.facebook.com/myfacebookpage) on their customer page. Once they select the url they want, and save their info, that url will be used in a redirect page, (i.e. <meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url={tag_redirectURL}"> or something to that effect. Has anyone done this or have any ideas how to do it? Ultimately, I want the user to be able to change on the fly where someone goes when they share their user link with a friend (i.e. http://www.mywebsite.com/userpage/ will take someone to a facebook page or to a youtube video, or some other page they redirect to) so they can switch it on their own when they choose to.

    Hi Scott,
    You could create a web app which as a text (string) field in it for customers to enter the URL they want to redirect the customers to. Then place a JavaScript redirect inside the detailed layout, which would look like this:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    window.location = "{tag_your-url-field}"
    //-->
    </script>
    Give them access to secure zone, place a web app item creation form onto it and you're good to go.
    Cheers,

  • How to email text from a text component in my applet on a the host server ?

    How to email text from a text component in my applet on a the host server, back to my email address ?
    Assuming I have Email Form on the host server.
    Help will be appreciated.

    You can do like below
    =REPLACE(Fields!Column.Value," " & Parameters!ParameterName.value & " ","<b>" & Parameters!ParameterName.value & "</b>")
    The select the expression and  right click and choose placeholder properties
    Inside that set Markup type as HTML
    then it will highlight the passed parameter value in bold within the full xml string

  • How to get data from list of values (LOV) to be displayed in a text field ?

    Hi guys,
    I am very new to Oracle APEX so please spare me if it is a silly question. How can I get the selected values from a set of list of values (LOV) displayed in a text field (or text area or so) ? Fox example, in my form I create 4 items: STATE, COUNTY, STREET, ZIPCODE and all of them are LOV (list of values). I also create 2 buttons (ADD & REMOVE). Then I create a test field (or text area name SELECTED RECORD). Now here is what I want to do with my form:
    When I set the values for all 4 fields, I will click on the ADD button then I want those values be displayed in the text field.
    For example, if the selected values are:
    STATE = Alabama
    COUNTY = Abbeville
    STREET= 1 Street
    ZIPCODE = 36310
    And the ADD button is pressed. Then in the text field I want it displays like this:
    Alabama,Abbeville,1 Street,36310
    If I choose other values and click ADD again, a new line will be added into the text fields (text area). If I click the REMOVE button, then it will clear those two line in the text field.
    Would it be possible to do it? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    If you can live with the page being submitted and refreshed, make your ADD button do a submit with a request value of ADD and make your REMOVE button do a submit with a request value of REMOVE.
    Then create two computations (one firing with a condition of Request = ADD and the other firing with a condition of Request = REMOVE).
    In the ADD one, concatenate the values together into the text area (most likely a PL/SQL computation wiill be what you want). In the REMOVE one, set it to null with a PL/SQL computation.
    If you want it done without submitting the page, make the buttons each do a redirect to a URL but instead you will have to write two short javascript functions in the page HTML header to manipulate the field values. Each button would call each javascript function in an onclick event.

  • Safari 5.1.2 keeps changing text field randomly on text input

    Hello everybody.
    Safari keeps changing the text field on input, do you know how to correct this issue?
    Here is an example:
    Let's say I load www.google.com, it appears in the safari window as usual.
    Suppose I begin to type a search in the google search field at the top right of the safari window (not the one on the google page)
    if when doing this the sentence is long for the search, at some point randomly, the rest of the text will be entered this time in the google search text field on the google page! (which is the very next text field) So when I hit enter it makes google search half of my request...
    Safari changed the text field I was into with no warning. I want to say I do not press tab at any moment.
    This is annoying really, and this does not appear anywhere else than in Safari. It seems the issue is not systematic, but appears quite often.
    I have no universal access setting except "enable access for assistive device"
    I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.
    Perhaps the problem I have is linked to some window refreshing?
    Thank you for your suggestions or help
    Mac Pro, 10.6.8

    Try deleting the cache associated with Safari ...
    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db.
    Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari to test.
    I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.
    Open System Preferences > Universal Access
    Make sure the box next to:  Enable access for aassitive devices is deselected.

  • Update a text field based on a SelectOneChoice field

    Hi,
    I have a set of Create, Confirm and Thankyou screens. These screens are bound to a global view object. The create screen has a SelectOneChoice element which allows the user to pick an employee. When the selection is made, I need to display the employee's department in a read only text field below the dropdown. The Employees list(SelectOneChoice) is associated to the read only view object and this view object also has the employee's department information. Im dont know how to set the department name in the text field and refresh the screen. Any help is appreciated. Thank You.

    Frank, thanks for you time. Please see my answers below.
    Hi,
    can you help me creating a reproducable testcase
    based on the HR schema where we have a Departments
    and Employees tables. To understand your usecase I
    have some questions:
    Im not too familiar with HR Schema.
    >
    First of all however, what is a "global view object",
    and is it safe to assume you are using ADF Business
    Components?
    Its the "Globals View Object" as described in the SRDemo for creating a new Service Request and yes I am using ADF Business Components.
    >
    Which version of Oracle JDeveloper do you use ?
    10.1.3
    >
    The usecase I understand is that you have a
    selectOneChoiceList that whenever you select a new
    name should update a read-only text field with the
    department name. Is this correct ? Or is there more
    in it ?
    Heres the complete description. There are 4 fields on the screen
    1. Program Name (text input field, - required field)
    2. Program Category (SelectOneChoice field - required field)
    3. Employee Name (SelectOneChoice field - required field)
    4. Employee Department (Text output field - based on 3 above)
    What you have described above is working for me now, but everytime I select a value for 3, it does the required fields check and gives a message like "1 & 2 are required and a value must be entered", this validation should only occur when my continue button is clicked.
    >
    The department name should be displayed only (read
    only), or is it also bound to what you call "global
    view"?
    Yes its read only but I need to bind to the Globals view as I need to display it in the confirmation screen.
    >
    Also, just to be sure, is the department name part of
    the VO or is it the departmentId?
    The screen is bound to the Globals View, the selectOneChoice values are displayed from another view(EmployeeList view) which has the department name.

  • Need some help regarding validation of input in a text field

    Hello everyone,
    i am new to all this website designing stuff and is working on my first website (treausre hunt types) and expecting some guidance over here.   :-)
    I have successfully managed to validate the login page using server behaviour.
    Let me explain what i need guidance with.
    After login , the user is redirected to a page where a question is asked and he has to type the answer in the given text field and click on the submit button. Now i want to validate the given answer with the correct one and if it is answered correctly then the user is redirected to the next page.
    the question is what and how am i supposed to do this?  i am using adobe dreamweaver cc and wampserver as localhost.

    This becomes complicated to do it the way you want BUT YOU CAN do it - you just need to be a bit more efficient and get a template together.
    Copy the 4 documents below and paste into seperate DW files to see how this works then look at the code and see if a pattern becomes noticeable to you. What we are doing is adding 1 to each level and checking the user has accumulated a score to that level - if not they are bumped down to the level which they have reached or in the case of not reaching any level to question 1.

  • Browser modifies http accept header field set by applet

    My problem: I have an applet which emulates a wml-browser. The applet is running in Internet Explorer 5. I can access all http-header fields from the applet and all settings made by the applet are honored.
    But not the accept header-field... I can set it, but it is always modified afterwards by Internet Explorer or Netscape... It always include accept: text/html while it should only accept wml

  • Counting Instances In a Text Field

    I have an applet that contains 2 textfields. One text field contains any text that you care to paste or type in it. Using the other text field you type in a string that will then search the other text field and count the number of same occurences. This data is dynamically updated.
    What would be the best way to implement this? Would I create a Char array out of each text field and then compare the two arrays to find the occurences? How would I create a char array out of a text field?
    Thank you

    Have a look at the following

  • Select List as a child to a text field?

    I'm using APEX 4.1. I have a Select List that has a Cascading LOV Parent Item that is just another text field, the LOV sql has the text field in the where clause. When I type a few characters into the text field and tab to the Select List the list is filtered by the characters from the text field, but if I use the mouse and click the down arrow of the Select List I have to click twice before the list will be populated. Does anyone know why this is happening?

    I would imagine it's a similar issue to the old 'mouse-navigate' in forms where no change event has fired while processing the arrow click. You may find different results in different browsers?
    You may be able to solve your problem with a mouse-click DA on your select list? or something similar, who'se action refreshes that select list item.

  • Competitor - Strategy and counter strategy text fields in Web UI

    Hi,
    I want to bring  strategy & counter strategy  text fields in the competitor screen of opportunity.
    Component: BT130I_OPPT
    View: BT130I_OPPT/CompetitorProdEF
    .The other standard fields strength and weakness are already visible in WEbUI.
    Also the text fieds strategy & counter strategy  are visible in SAP GUI -opportunity - Competitor tab
    In standard to display strength and weakness the view /CompetitorProdEF has 2 context nodes BTText1  (Relation BTTextIFirstchangable) and BTtext2 (Relation BTTextISecondchangable).
    I tried to add new contect node for strategy & counter strategy (Relation BTTextIAll)  but the save is not working properly.
    Kindly suggest what needs to be done to make these standard text
    types available in this view in WebUI
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi,
    The issue is related to 'window.open("url")'. I replaced the above function with another script window.navigation("url).
    When 'window.navigation' script is executed, browser is asking a security question whether to download the content or not. If i click yes, whole window is refreshed and existing data is gone. This happens only for first time when we try to download. After this the download is working fine without any session time out, if we are using the same window.
    Kindly help if you have any inputs regarding the issue.
    Thanks a lot.

  • How to set Disabled Text field's Background color

    We have an Applet application which we are running with Java Plug-in 1.5.0_11. We have Grey back ground for all the pages. When the text fields are in editable mode the text color is in black. When they are in non editable mode the text color changes to opaque green (with grey background page color) which is hard to read.
    The same application with Java Plug-in 1.4.2_13 did not had this color problem. When text fields were disabled they appeared as dark grey which was easy to read.
    We are using
    import javax.swing.JTextField;
    Is it a bug in newer Java Plug-in? Is there a work around for this?
    Thanks for any help and suggestions

    Solved this myself by writing a programmatic skin and set it to LinkButton's disabledSkin.
