Refreshing Message server ports on Netweaver 7.1
Hi,
I have a problem with a Netweaver 7.1 Java server;
I was creating a JCO destination, and it was missing a logical port definition for the message server.
So I edited the server's "services" file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\services), and accidentially entered a wrong port number for the message server, I entered 3602 and it was supposed to be 3600.
I discovered this, and went back to change the port number to the correct setting, but the server doesn't seem to refresh this...
I have restarted both the WebAS java, and the operating system, and it just won't read the new port I entered, but it keeps remembering the old value.
What do I do to make it understand the new setting?
Thanks in advance for any answers that can point me in the right direction.
Hello Klavs
I see that you have no recieved any suggestions.
Can you provide more information that may help?
Thanks

Changing message server port for ABAP+Java Instance
Hi,
We had change our message server port for the Java instance from 3607 to 3667.
We did this using the j2ee config tool. We also verified this information through the console config.
But when we look into system info URL using the URL as shown below, we still that the old message server port is being used. We have recycled the instance couple of times , but does not seem to help.
http://dfudsbw1.dfna.corp.dom:50700/sap/monitoring/SystemInfo
Any ideas where else we have to change the port no. for the message serverHi guys,
I solved this on my own with documentation help from SAP.
I had to change the port no. in the Global dispatcher and Global server area as well.
Please see details from SAP below.
"Message Server: Changing Ports/Hosts shows which areas need to be adjusted if
the port or host of the message server changes. Ports are, of course, changed in the
instance profile of the Central Services instance. In the example, the port 3677 and
the HTTP port 8177 have been set, and the new host is called twdfxxx. You need to
use the Config Tool to set these values. For each instance, you need to maintain the
corresponding values for the Message server host and Message server port on the
Message Server and Bootstrap tab page. The connection details for dispatchers or
servers to the message server are maintained in the Cluster Manager. As shown in the
figure, the ms.host and ms.port are maintained, respectively, in the Cluster Manager
with Global Dispatcher and the Global Server. After you have maintained all of the
parameters, you can start the instances." -

Thanks & Regards,
Nagarjuna.Hi Nagarujna,
Instance Number : - just check the logon pad.. select your Ecc or R/3 system and click on chane item.... Usally it is 00.
Message server port : it is 3600 + instance no.
3600 + 00 = 3600

FPN configured for message server port
Hello,
I would like to configure my Consumer Portal to connect to my Producer on port :8101 (the default message server port of the Producer). However, each time I try with this conifguration FPN breaks and nothing works - can't browse the PCD or see remote roles via Identity Management (when I switch the config back to point to port :50000 in the Producer object on the Consumer it works fine again). I'm not using a SAP web dispatcher between the two portals but Producer portal is indeed listening on port :8101 since I can hit it directly. Is this a limitation of FPN?
My http trace shows an ABORT message when trying to connect with the :8101 configuration.
The 8101 port is necessary to be configured in order to leverage our clustered load balanced environment which has the 8101 message server port listening and redirecting to a cluster of servers.
PatrickWhen using Remote Delta Links one can configure the SAP Message Server's RMI-P4 port (3901 by default) for RMI-P4 communication.
For the HTTP load balancing you cannot configure it to point to the HTTP port of SAP Message Server (8101 by default) only the application server's HTTP port on the Central Instance (e.g. 50000) can be used.
But don't bother yourselves with this, because SAP recommends using SAP Webdispatcher for HTTP load balancing in FPN scenario, so don't use SAP Message Server directly for HTTP load balancing in the FPN connection setup! -

Where to find Message Server port ?
How can I find the message server port on my portal server installation ?
- punamHi Punam,
There are various ways of finding this out. One way is that you check the following log file and you can see the message port for your system. As far as I remember default port is 3601 but anyway confirm it in this file
parameter is ms port
C:usrsap<SID><INSTANCEworkdev_* files for ex dev_jcontrol
You can also find this from SAP MMC as welk. Check developer trace after right clicking on message server process.

How to see Dispatcher, gateway and Message server port numbers?
Hi All,
Can any body tell me how to know the port numbers of dispatcher, gateway & message server in a particular sap application server.
Thanks & Regards
Srinivas KHi,
This is very work around way...
SM51-Choose theserver-there one icon (Magnifying glass) choose detaiols -
There you will get dispatchet port.
SMGW -
dispaly file(icon) -
in that you can find the port on which gate way is working.
SMMS-goto-parametere--display...you can find the port for MS.
SMMS -goto-display details (will give more info) you can find diff ports ...
Apart from these all these services when they start they write log in work dir there we can find which port they are using while starting ..
We can find them in the individual monitoring t-codes like SMMS,SMGW,SM51 etc..or from AL11 go to work dir and look at dev_disp,dev_ms,dev_rd.
This is all very work around...
The best will be services file at os level.
Thanks. -

Developer Studio: Access to Message Server Port
Hello,
in our case developer wants to access the java instance of an add-in installation (SAP WEB AS JAVA-Version: 6.40 SP16).
The Problem is, that the direct access from the developer studio to the server is not possible without problems, because in the middle is a firewall placed that is not under our maintenance.
Is it possible to organize the access via something like the saprouter?
We have to keep in mind, that in future other groups has to access other java instances, so that we want to use a single point of entry trough this firewall.
Thanks fo help,
AndréCan you give me some hints, how to do it?
I cannot imagine, how it could work.
Thanks in advance,
André

What is the message server port on an WAS JAVA 7.0 instance.
I am reading a document that says it is 36NN, where NN is the instance number.
But the problem is that I checked the server and it is actually running on 39NN
where NN is the instance #.
When did they change this?
ThanksI first saw 39NN with 2004s. With 2004 it was always 36NN.

tanmayaHi Tanmaya,
Question: How to find whether the port is blocked or not?
(A) You can check the message server port in txn SMMS or dev_ms trace in ST11 to verify if the port is correctly set. If it is and you cannot connect to the message server then you will need to find out which program/service is occupying port 3900. So please follow the steps below:-
(A1) On Unix there is a program called LSOF available which shows ALL programs that occupies all ports. SAP Note [164937|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bc_cst/~form/handler%7b5f4150503d3030323030363832353030303030303031393732265f4556454e543d444953504c4159265f4e4e554d3d313634393337%7d] shows were you can get this program.
(A2) On Windows the equilivent of LSOF is Process Explorer from the Sysinternals Suite. This is available on the MS website [here|http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb842062.aspx]. You can use this to filter by port.
So using these programs you will be able to see which programs occupy all ports on your server and either remove or disable them.
P.S. You can use SAP Note [421359|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bc_cst/~form/handler%7b5f4150503d3030323030363832353030303030303031393732265f4556454e543d444953504c4159265f4e4e554d3d343231333539%7d] to bind any port to any service on Unix including "protected" ports !!!
Hope this helps

How to find port number of message server
Hi All,
Is anyone there who could tell me how to find out port number of message server (Message Port)? I am defining new system in my SLD so I need port number of message server of the system that I am connecting to. Thanks in advance.
Best regardsHi,
Go to the index page of the url,
type http://hostname:http port in Internet browser.
for ex : if installation is done on system with IP 172.16.28.90
and your http port is 50000(depends on Central instance number,JCxx)
then type http://172.16.28.90:50000.
1.then go to system information tab in index page.
for the credentials asked,type,
user:administrator
password:master password given during installation.
then system information page opens,in the left corner top,you can find message server port.

J2ee connection error, "The Message Server did not respond within 60 sec"
Hi,
I am facing the error "The Message Server did not respond within 60 sec. Please check if the message server is running.." when connecting to J2ee through NWDS.
I am able to reach the index page via http://<ip address>:53500/index.html but yet unable to reach through NWDS.
I have tried various combinations of host and port names like:
Message Server Host : <ip address>, <host name>
Message Server Port : 3636, 3936
but still no luck.
I've also cross checked the value of message server port by navigating to http://<IP address>:53500/monitoring/SystemInfo too, it is 3636.
The telnet test (telnet <ip address> <port Number>) draws a blank window.
I know this problem has been posted again and again, but then I am unable to understand what is the solution to this.
Can someone please help me in resolving this issue?
Note: [link 1|Unable to Connect to the J2EE Server from Netweaver Developer Studio; & [link 2|Developer Studio:Exception:The message server did not respond within 60 sec; are already checked.Hi Robin,
Although I still haven't received any info from my colleagues regarding the central instance..
Just a quick query, if we have NW04 we use 36** and if it is NW04S then we use 39** , is this the only difference for message server port?
If that is the case, as I mentioned earlier, I have tried both, and one gave me N/A(3936) while the other gave me 'message server did not respond' error(3636).
I have the message server host name & port , Enqueue Server Host name & Port and SDM PID and Port details with me..
Can this be anyway useful in establishing a connection?
Waiting for your inputs...
Best Regards,
Vinay
