Refreshing universe in Deski

When creating a report, if I need to change something in the universe, is there any way to refresh the universe in deski without logging out and back it?

In DeskI , go to tools --> Universe, then select the universe and click refresh

  • Issue in Infoview while refreshing DeskI report with prompts

    Hi all,
When I tried to refresh a WebI report whose Data Source is Universe, which is having some prompts, the prompt window was displaying the prompt values that were used to run the report earlier. Similarly when I tried to refresh a few DeskI reports whose Data Sources are free hand sql/ Universe -> Customized SQL which were also having prompts, the prompt window is not showing me prompt values (especially prompts with texts) that were used to run the report earlier.
Now my issue is how to display the prompt values that were used  in the prompts earlier while refreshing for DeskI (Data Source: Free hand SQl/Universe -> Customized SQL) Reports
    Any help is highly aprreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Suresh.

    Hi Suresh,
Noticed you still have no answer.
For Deski prompts, only the last value selected is 'remembered', same for freehand as for a universe query.
It does get 'erased' however when you purge the data or when you select a 'wrong' value resulting in no data.
This is the basic difference, webi will remember even though you purged
(you can specifically purge those to if you want to), so not the freehand sql.
It is possible however to use the @prompt() syntax and pre-build the possible list of values if the list is not too big.
    Hope this helps,
    Marianne

  • Webi report gives old data in infoview on refresh

    Hi Experts,
We are facing this strange issue on a webi report after some data updation in the SAP BW infocube.
The webi report is based on the universe which is connected to an infocube in our BW dev system. After some data updation in the cube, we had tested the report in webi rich client and everything was working fine (the newly updated data from cube was reflecting). Now, we had tested the same report in infoview, but it was showing the old data only. We had tried exporting the report once again to infoview, refreshed universe structure; but without any success.
What appeared to be even more strange was that the last refresh time was also not changing. While running the report in the infoview it hardly takes 40secs. But on refreshing it says the last refresh time was 5mins.
Any help on this would be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Arun.

it sounds like when you refresh report in Infoview you get the cached data, it never goes to the DB to fetch new one...
You'll need to enable traces on webi processing server as well as SOFA/MDX tracing and review log files to see if requests are going to db or not and what is being returned.
It could be at webi proc level or at your BW level.
You can also try disabling webi caching in webi proc server properties and see what happens.

  • It will not parse! Creating a new object in the universe

Hi, we have a universe and BO reports. They work fine for our clients. We are on BO XI r3.1. Now, one client captures an additional piece of info. They would like to report against this and add it high up on our drilling heirarchy. "Sure, no problem". For the following I was logged in as administrator.
The additional data field is a 3 character code.
    1) We added an additional column to the actual database table.
    2) In Universe Designer, I refreshed universe structure and could see the additional column
    3) Created an object 'Acode' that refers to db.new_field
    4) Exported universe
Maybe worth mentioning that I can see this object and use it in reports fine in Infoview.
Now, I need to create a new object that will be one of 2 strings based on the 3 character code (Acode) i.e. the 'Atype' can be X or Y.
Here's my code and it just will not parse:
    CASE
    WHEN @Select(AFolder\Acode) = 'CEL'
    THEN 'X'
    ELSE u2018Yu2019
    END
    Error I get is:
Parse failed:Eception:DBD ODBC SQL Server driverStatement could not be prepared.State 42000
I'd appreciate any help, believe me I have searched the forums!
    Thanks, Eddie

  • Changes in Designer not visible in deski

In Designer I have done some changes to the universe and saved it in local. Now when i try to open the same universe in Deski I am not seeing the changes.
Can anyone please let me know how will I check the changes I have done to the local copy.
    Regards,
    Mitali

    Hi,
All the deski reports will be mapped to Universe CUID ID as per design of BO. So when you open a deski report by default the report imports required universe from repository to local Unv folder based on CUID maping b/w both. So even though if you do changes to unv in local folder it won't be reflected in corresponding reports unless you export the same unv to repository.
Try belowas changing import the report from repository (by default the unv on which report is built is also imported) then replace unv with modified one and open DeskI and check it out whether changes are reflected or not. It may or may not work.
    Cheers,
    Suresh Aluri.

  • [BOXI 3.0] DeskI Documents in InfoVIew - no View Menu - PDF Mode

viewing DeskI reports in InfoView I can set my preferences for "default view format" to "Web" , "PDF" or "Desktop Intelligence format".
If I set it to "Web" then after viewing a DeskI document if I click on the View menu I only get options for "Page Mode" and "Draft Mode" I don't get the option for "PDF mode"
But if I log into InfoView as Administraor with FULL rights then I do get the option for "PDF Mode"
Which security right controls the option to have "PDF Mode" on the View menu ?

this is a bug,  you need to give rights for crystal report, like #export the report data# and #Refresh# to allow Deski Reports to be exported
Apparently there is an Enhancement request id ADAPT01098470 with details of this Bug in
    BOXI 3.0

  • Universe access problem after importing from R2 to R3.1

    Hi all!
We have a problem with universes in 3.1: even with administrator user it keeps showing FRM 00008 error message (You are not authorised to use this document. The universe could not be found in the Central Management Server...) after importing successfully any universe or trying to open any universe locally.
All of the universes were imported using the Import Wizard. The CMS server have been restarted and is running, the CMS ports are visible, universe, connection and application access rights are full control (for the administrator user).
Any idea would be welcome on what else should be checked or set.
    Thanks and best regards,
    László

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't help. I double-checked object right for administrator, and where it wasn't set as full control, I changed it to full control (universe, applications - DeskI and Designer, and the relevant connection).
And the administrator user is member of only two groups: Administrators and Everyone. (Everyone has no access on these objects, because every user in our BO enterprise is a member of a special group, so there's no need to grant rights to Everyone).
    Any other idea?

  • Crystal using parameter from universe

When creating parameter in a Crystal report using a universe the LOV becomes static.  This is a weak limitation in the tool.  Has anyone found a work around so that the parameter is dynamic as it was intended and the parameter LOV is refreshed each time the report is executed?

    Hi Patrick,
Universe-based Crystal reports in BusinessObjects Enterprise XI and XI Release 2 can have dynamic parameters based on Universe list-of-values (LOV) objects. Crystal Reports only refreshes Universe LOV objects when the Universe is changed.
The two new methods for causing a LOV object to be refreshed in Crystal Reports are:
    1. Refresh at every use. This simple option ensures the LOV presented to users is always up-to-date when viewing a report object. It doesnu2019t apply to scheduling, so this option doesnu2019t help when viewing instances of scheduled reports.
    2. A new BusinessObjects SDK option has been introduced, allowing developers to write scripts or applications to control when LOV objects are updated. Applications can be triggered or scheduled in the BusinessObjects environment in a number of ways. Sample code is provided, showing how a group of reports might be scheduled to be updated.
    Refreshing Universe LOV Objects
To ensure the Universe prompt is refreshed before each use, be sure to edit the object properties in the Universe Designer and set the Automatic refresh before use option.
    Step:-
    Right click the object.
    Select the Properties tab.
Enable the Automatic refresh before use option
Crystal Reports will also update cached LOV objects when the report query is edited in the Crystal Reports Universe query panel.
I hope this information helps you.
    Regards,
    Prashant.

  • Need to know these topics please ....,

    Hi
i faced interview recently, there i was failed due to below questions in BO. Can anyone provide the outputs please.,
    1. what kind of limitations do we have whilst using BO on the top of BW/BI? million cells issue
    RKF issues
    MDX limitations
    Hierachy issues
    Info provider (ID) issues
    filters.
can you explain about the above issues detailly., why those would become as a issue ..??
    2. is it good idea to do filters at Query level (BEX) or BO level?
    3. Can we create universe on the top of DSO?
    4. What kind of limitations do we have using infoset.
    5. How would you improve BO query performance?
    6. If you introduce new fields in the cube and there was a universe has already been created on
it how would you refresh universe (align).
    7. Data issues between BI and BO.
    8. New features of BO etc.
    9. WEBi/DESKI differences.
    10. WEBI/Boxi schedular
Apart above., can anyone send any interview questions and answers on BO please. especially universe and web i.
waiting valuable inputs from you guys. please .,
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    swetha

    Hi swetha,
    1. These are the complete deski, webi differences
    [http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/ConversionfromDesktopIntelligencetoWebIntelligence#ConversionfromDesktopIntelligencetoWebIntelligence-DeskIfunctions]
    2. How would you improve BO query performance?
At universe level by using loop resolving technique we have a chance to improve the performance and also using the aggregate tables.
in report level removing data provider remove unneccery formales andveriables
At universe level 3 ways we can improve the query performance.
    1. Using aggregation tables in scheme.
    2. Chnge the Array Fetch parameter.
    3. Using shot cut joins.
    4. Puting indexes on tables
3.Can we create universe on the top of DSO?
You can build a universe directly on an InfoCube (but NOT on a DSO or InfoSet) without the Data Federator. Still this is not the recommended approach. Please review the section +SAP NetWeaver BW Queries as
recommended data sources+ in the following document: http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31SP2/en/xi31_sp2_sap_olap_univ_en.pdf
4.What kind of limitations do we have using infoset.
    A.  Base64 Optimization
The Base64 optimization (see the Fast Infoset for Java Web Services Developer Pack v2.0 documentation) only applies to schema-defined (or WSDL-defined) elements. It does not apply to attribute values or element values, which are not defined in the schema (for example, those generated by the XWSS library). Moreover, this optimization is turned off when JAX-RPC handlers are defined.
    B.  XWSS Library Optimizations
Certain optimizations in the XWSS library may not be available when Fast Infoset is turned on
    5. Hierarchie Limitations
 If number of expanded hierarchy levels is more than formula will become very lengthy and complicated.
 Used only for displaying two hierarchy levels at a time in report, can be increased for more number of levels but at the same time complexity will increase.
 This logic is specific to expanded hierarchy requirement only.
 Authorization concept as part of this logic is not covered in this above details.

6.Data issues between BI and BO
Will any BI and BW products be combined? Yes. For OLAP Analysis, the capabilities of the BEx Analyzer and BO Voyager will be combined, code-named Pioneer, with a release year set for 2010.
What other products can we expect? 2010 is also the year set for the release of NetWeaver Crystal Reports for Enterprise Reporting (companies can obviously use Crystal Reports now with BOu2019s integration tools). Polestar for NetWeaver, powered by the BIA, is expected in 2009.
    All the best,
    Praveen

  • No Data to Fetch?

Hi, all and thanks for the forums!
I'm new to BOE and am trying to rebuild reports we have in Crystal Reports 9 (I'm told the Crystal Report import is not available to us).  We use the 3 tier structure per our corporate architecture and though a 3 tier reporting structure leaves me a little baffled to begin with, as I'm accustomed to reports just connecting via ODBC straight to the underlying database, the universe is built (using desktop designer) and I can view the data in my tables.  The database was recently migrated from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008 and I have no problems with it using the existing Crystal Reports 9 reports or with a VB.Net web application.  As well as viewing the table data in designer.
I have built a few reports now and have a couple questions.
    1. One of my reports uses a "between" statement in the where clause using a datetime field that prompts for the start and end dates for the report.  When I refresh the data, deski tells me there is no data to fetch--but I can copy the sql to SQL Server Management Studio and execute it (replacing the @variable for start and end with the appropriate date range) and return the expected number of records.  Why would I be getting "No Data to Fetch"?
    2. Another report simply has a where clause without any prompts and after refreshing the report, all I see is the report structure--it never shows the data in the report, but I can click view data and see it there.  How do I get the report to display the data?
Would someone be so kind as to assist a BO newbie on why these 2 things are occuring?
    Thanks,
    ejowens

The View/Structure option was it for viewing the data in that particular report...do I feel a little silly?  Yes I do!  Thanks for helping with that!
For the date prompt, I figured it out...the prompt window puts the prompts backwards.  It asks for 'end date' first and then 'start date' so instead of my date range being 6/1/2011 through 6/30/2011, because deski is backwards the date range is 6/30/2011 through 6/1/2011.
So I guess the real question needs to be how do I get deski to put the prompts in an order that is intuitive so that my end users (as well as myself) do not get confused?

  • Prompt List of Values in WebI - SAP BI Variable - SAP BI Query -BI Infoset

    Hi,
We have a Multiprovider built on an Infoset. SAP BI Infoset is built using 2 DSOs.
There is a SAP BI Query on top of this Multiprovider.
Multiple-Single Values type Optional Variables are created for some of the Objects of this SAP BI Query.
Universe is created on top of this SAP BI Query, using SAP Integration kit.
WebI is created on top of this Universe.
Prompts are created on some of the Universe Objects, for the WebI report.
We are facing a typical problem.
When a WebI prompt is created on one particular object, (which also has a Multiple Single Value type Optional Variable in SAP BI Query), its List of Values is showing up only first three values in WebI. The SAP BI Variable in BEX Analyzer shows up all the 8 values for the List of Values, for the same object.
The Output WebI report has more values for the object than shown up in the List of Values & this is the problem.
We tried to keep the settings in Info-object, DSO, Infoset, Multiprovider = Values in Master Data (for the List of Values).
Similar objects and similar variables for the same query / webi show all the List of Values.
Any guidance on aspects to be checked would be helpful.
    regards,
    Rajesh K Sarin

    Problem :
If an SAP BI Infoset is used in data modelling, and a restricted key
figure is created in the SAP BI Query; the resultant WebI Object Prompt
for the Info-object, only shows up LOVs which have been used for the
restricted Key Figure. Both the things are not related except for the
fact that some of the values for the same object are used for the
    restricted key figure.
    Details :
We have a Multiprovider built on an SAP BI Infoset.
SAP BI Infoset is built using 2 DSOs.
There is a SAP BI Query on top of this Multiprovider.
There is a restricted key figure in the sap bi query. KeyFigure "Number
of Records" is restricted for 3 of the relevant Info-object "Meter
    Reading Status" values.
Universe is created on top of this SAP BI Query, using SAP Integration
kit. WebI is created on top of this Universe.
Prompt is created on the Universe Object for Meter Reading Status, in
    the WebI report.
List of Values is showing up only the three values in WebI (which were
used in the Restricted Key Figure calculation).
SAP BI Variable in BEX Analyzer for the same Info-object Meter Reading
Status shows up all the 8 values for the List of Values.
The Output WebI report has more values for the object than shown up in
the List of Values & this is the problem.
We have kept the settings in Info-object, DSO, Infoset,
Multiprovider, Query = Values in Master Data (for the List of Values).
When we delete the "Restricted Key Figure" from the SAP BI Query, the
refreshed Universe and Webi have a complete set of List of Values
    applicable.
    Steps for Reconstruction
    1. Create Infoset
    2. Create SAP BI Query on Infoset
    3. Create Restricted Key Figure for Number of Records and few of the
    values for a characteristic info-object "X".
    4. Create BO Universe on SAP BI Query
    5. Create Webi on BO Universe
    6. Create a Prompt on the characteristic info-object "X".
    7. Check List of Values for the characteristic info-object "X" in SAP
    BI Query and WebI.
    8. LOVs in WebI are equal to the values used for restriction in the
    restricted key figure.
    9. Delete the restricted key figure from SAP BI Query.
    10. Refresh Universe
    11. Webi prompt shows all the values for the prompt on "X".

  • Not able to connect CMC or Infoview using Administrator

Hi, I have a unique problem. We have a sand box (in other department) where we had either administrator as userid or userid of previous contractor. We do have two other userid which we were told that has access to CMC.  I am suppose to support that system to give access to new developer. I can login into Universe and Deski using Administrator userid and blank password or using those two other userids but I can not login into Administrator LaunchPad or infoview page by either. I am getting error message Unauthorized for all userids.
This is BO XI rel 2.0 with MySQL and Java Installation. I could login into MySQL directly.
On the other servers the admin launchpad is havinglink for Infoview and CMC on same page and there are other links at the left hand side but in this whenever I click on link
    http://localhost:8080/businessobjects/enterprise115/adminlaunch/launchpad.html
then a pop-up window appears. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or if other person did something.
Thinking that I am using wrong links I tried various links butin vain.
    Please help..
    Thanks

It sounds like someone may have inadvertantly set a permission denying all users or the everyone group to login to infoview/CMC.
I thought this was impossible with the built in administrator account based on testing some time ago. That looks like the right link, can you open a message with support? We may have to test your system DB to find out what's wrong.

    Tim
