Refurb Nano doesn't work.

I plug it into my laptop and it's not recognized, turn on, or charge. Plugged it into the docking speakers and doesn't do anything either. Figure it would charge at least or turn on, but doesn't.
Went to chat feature on here and the product select doesn't show Nano on the drop-down menu, and serial number isn't recognized.
Did you guys (Apple) send me a dead refurb?
PS. Order the Kensington sx2000 speakers and received an opened/returned speaker. There was crumppled up tape trash inside the box! Surprised they didn't throw in some coffee stains in there also. First time ordering from Apple and using Apple products. Horrible first impression. Will be last time too! WILL NEVER ORDER FROM APPLE STORE AGAIN! Most likely will be returning entire setup. UNSAT!

UPDATE:
Yes, it was a dead Nano. Had to ship it back to Apple and getting replacement.
Speakers: I could send it back, but shipping cost and time. I'll ship it back when it breaks. If I knew I was going to be getting an opened item that's been finger f-ed. I would of shopped Ebay and gotten it for a fraction of the price. Thought I'd get it from a reputible retailer. Wrong! Hope the rest of you have better luck.

  • My nano doesn't work, cannot be find in Windows and itunes. please help!

Before it doesn't work, I am charging the battery.
But when I am about to disconnect it from the systme, Windows prompted "can't be disconnected", I tried several times, the same prompts. So I shut off the computer, but the nano doesn't work.
I have tried the 5-R steps, nothing changed.
there's only the picture of a file folder with an exclamation point comes up, and on the bottom it has apples support website, alternating with a apple logo.
The worst thing is that I cannot find my nano in the explorer, so I cannot restore/update or format it.
BTW, I have disconnected the nano from all power sources and left it disconnected for about 24 hours, reconnect to the USB port, a battery displayed on the screen, but for about 20s, display the the picture of a file folder aggain.
    Please help!

  • My iPod Nano doesn't work as it should...

I have just got my new iPod Nano. It's the 2gb model from the second generation. I was extremely happy, because it looks awesome and I thought that it would work same way.
The player is working perfect. Plays songs, really awesome.
But I have really BIG problems with iTunes. As I said I have got iPod today and everything is new and up-to-date - iTunes and I even somehow managed to update my iPod. Why somehow? I have extremely big problems with updating it. I think that it works okay now, but not at all. Everything is okay when I use an automatic system. I copy music I want to library, conect iPod then and everything copies perfect. The problems are starting when I try to manage iPod on my own - copy music etc. This simply doesn't work! When I try to change the system on non-automatic the error (-50) occurres and iPod cannot be updated. I even can't do this simple thing so there are no talks about deleting or copying music to iPod.
What can I do? That's simply driving me crazy :/
PS. Sorry for my English, but I'm from Poland. I don't know if the apple service exists here at all...

And I have one more question, when I connect my iPod,
iTunes turns on automatically and the iPod is seen,
but it's not seen in "My Computer". Is that ok?
Since you have the iPod set at auto sync the ipod would not show in "My Computer" (someone correct me if I am wrong). If you were able to successfully switch it to manual it would show as it would be in disk mode. So I would say that this is ok.
I have done a search for the error -50 you keep getting and can't find anything. At this point I would suggest contacting Apple support to see if they can give you some insight on this error. One thing though...have you tried uninstalling iTunes from your computer completely and then re-installing it to make sure it's not an issue with your current copy of iTunes? Also, have you tried to go through the 5 R's?
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If you have not gone through the 5 R's, please try that first and see if it helps. If not, then try un-installing and then re-installing iTunes. If that does not work, then it would probably be beneficial to call Apple Support.

  • IPod nano doesn't work at all

Just rec'd an iPod nano 2 gb about 2 weeks ago. Showed that it needed to be charged so attached to my Windows XP system (not a usb 2.0 port) and it still showed charging after two days. Tried the reset 8 billion times - no go. Now, nothing works on the iPod. Bought the power adapter and plugged it in and now it just makes a buzzing sound. I read somewhere to unplug it from all power sources for 24 hours - didn't work either. I have no idea why it doesn't work. Any other ideas?

    "Any other ideas?"
Yes. As it's only 2 weeks ago since you got it, take it to an Apple store and get it exchanged for one that works. You shouldn't be jumping through hoops to get a brand new iPod working.

  • Video iPod Nano doesn't work when plugged in anymore

As of recently, whenever I plug my Video iPod Nano into my Hi-Fi the screen locks up. The music still plays through the Hi-Fi, and I can control the volume via the unit however the screen completely is frozen, and unresponsive to any movement on the clicker. It worked fine before, and this now a recent happening, and I have a feeling the latest update to the iPod Nano knocked it out.

I'm not not sure why this question is flagged as "answered".
I'm experiencing exactly the same behavior. If my nano (3G) is put into my HiFi while in play mode, it will continue playing through the HiFi, but the nano screen will freeze and its controls will become unresponsive. Only the HiFi volume can be controlled via the HiFi top buttons. Ditto for the remote - only the volume controls function (although the HiFi green LED responds to all remote commands as normal).
If the nano is inserted into the HiFi in menu mode, it just remains unresponsive. When taken out of the HiFi dock, it will invariably remain unresponsive for 30-40 seconds, then suddenly light up and return to normal.
In fact, my nano (3G) has always acted this annoying way with our HiFi - which continues to work flawlessly (extra menues and all) with the sundry older iPod models that we own.
Yes, I have tried resetting and restoring the nano (now at firmware version 1.1) and the HiFi no avail.
I'm curious to learn whether anyone has actually gotten a nano (3G) to work properly with a HiFi.
P.S. Great product the HiFi - can't for the good of me figure out why Apple discontinued it... It's truly adding insult to injury if this thing of beauty no longer works properly with the newer iPods.

  • The old "ipod nano" doesn't work on Vista query

I've had my new PC with Vista installed for all of 6 hours now and in that time I've discovered that, yup you guessed it, my little ipod nano that worked perfectly on the XP system I had before isn't detected by the new Vista operating system.
A couple of hours of browsing the web and these forums has shown me I am not alone, but in all that searching the best solution offered from interested parties seems to be to reinstall Itunes (done that) or roll back to XP and forget all about Vista.
Now if Microsoft and Apple have screwed up somehow with the drivers required to make Vista, Itunes and the Ipod nano talk to each other I can understand that. But what is this conspiracy of silence all about? I can find nothing official on either of the companies websites even acknowledging there is a problem. Instead I only find 'lonely' threads (about half a dozen in this forum alone) awaiting an easy answer to a pretty serious issue, an answer that doesn't look very forthcoming anytime soon.
It's a pity since I was just getting into the whole Itunes/Ipod thing, guess I will have to await Itunes 9 or some Vista patch in the future, but then again so far as Apple and Microsoft are concerned... there's no issue to worry about.
    Cheers

If a restore of the nano in iTunes fails to correct the issue, it's hardware related meaning you'll want or need to have the iPod serviced either by Apple or a third party service center.

  • Removing Podcasts from Nano Doesn't work!!!

OK Apple, what's going on? A quick search of this discussion area shows 34 pages of people having the same problem. Isn't it time to do something about it? GGGGRRRR!
I've tried sync'g my podcasts two different ways and in both cases, iTunes is updated properly, but the Nano itself is NEVER updated. The podcasts just sit there forever and I eventually get messages telling me that my Nano is out of space!!!
    method one:
Set the podcast folder in iTunes to update automatically,
set the podcast option to "keep all unplayed episodes"
I make sure that I scrub episodes all the way to the end, then update my Nano.
This correctly updates the podcast listing.
I then update the podcast listing and listened to episodes are correctly removed from itunes.
I then update the Nano and NOTHING HAPPENS. The episodes are left there!!!
    method two:
Set the podcast folder to manually update
create a smart playlist to include
all items with a genre of "podcast",
    limited to only 25 items,
    listed my most recently added.
I make sure that I scrub episodes all the way to the end, then update my Nano.
This correctly updates the smartplaylist & the podcast list.
I then update the podcast listing and listened to episodes are correctly removed from itunes.
    The smartplaylist is correctly updated
I then update the Nano new podcasts are sync'd, but the OLD ONES ARE LEFT BEHIND!!
The only thing that seems to work is to fully reinitalize my Nano. What a waste of time.
Come Apple, you've got the new word of the year in "Podcast" and yet your own software can't deal with them.
I'm not going to keep reformating my Nano every month. Windows Media Player & Xplay is looking better & better.

Then please help "the user" with his error! How can I possibly have it set up such that my smartlist on my Nano works properly, my smartlist in iTunes works properly, and my podcast section of iTunes works properly, but the podcasts are still left on the memory of the nano???
Here are my settings (you find the error!)
    1. Edit/Preferences/Podcasts:
    Check for new episodes: everyday
When new episodes are avialable: download all
    Keep: all unplayed episodes
    2. Edit/Preferences/iPod/Podcasts:
    Manually manage Podcasts
    3. Edit/Preferences/iPod/Music
    Automatically update selected playlist only:
    !Podcast
    4. Smart Playlist (called !Podcast):
Match ALL of the following rules
    Genre is Podcast
    Play count is 0
limit to 25 songs select by most recently added
    live update
So, with this set up I should:
    1. get all new podcasts and only keep those that are not listened to
    2. have no sync'd of podcasts based on "podcast" rules
    3. sync a Smart Playlist called "!Podcast"
    4. have a smart Playlist called "!Podcast" with only the 25 most recent songs in the genre "podcast"
    Where is the "user error"?
Sorry if I seem combative, but this is EVER frustrating.
    Thanks in advance.

  • All R's done and still Nano doesn"t work

I have tried 3 different computers and have restarted them all and still none of them will read my Nano. Two of the computers worked yesterday. I can load Tunes, but cannot access my own personal iPod. I cannot use iTune Reinstall because I cannot access my music to save any of my music. I have had my iPod charging for 2 hours now so it should be ready to go and still I have no charging message on the LCD. Now what?

    Hello,
The main thing I suggest to do in this situation is to put your iPod into disk mode. Then connect your iPod to your computer again.

Obviously you found my user tip/posts on corrupt AppleWorks preferences although you said "preference file." There are four preference files in two different places. Take another look at my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly, for the file names & locations.
However, the spinning beach ball you see in AppleWorks has nothing to do with your Intel Mac or corrupt preferences but is the most complained about bug in AppleWorks 6 - known as the "Recent Items bug." The same problem will affect any Mac no matter what processor or OS. There are three user tips in the User Tips Library dealing with Recent Items.

  • Nano doesn't work and itunes in restore/recovery mode loop

My ipod nano 1st gen was fine (XP pro) - and then I plugged it in and it says "Itunes has detected an Ipod in rocover mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used in windows."
I press restore and it seems to be restoring - and says its restore...but then it starts from square one and says it has to be restored again.
When I unplug the nano it says "do not disconnect"...but then it says "use itunes to restore".
I updated my itunes, restarted, etc. and still get the same.
Someone said something about changing the drive letter or drive mode...but i cant do that! please help.

    Have you tried?

  • New Nano doesn't work like 2nd gen iPod

When I powered off my 2nd gen iPod and then turned it back on, it would always go back into random play mode. If for example I was listening to an artist with 30 songs and wanted to go back to random play, all I had to do was power off and on and I was back at random play.
With my Nano, powering it off and on returns me to where I last was. The only way I know to get out of that artists play list and get random play again is to click through all the songs until they are cycled through one time. Then I get the main menu and random play again.
There must be an easier way. Does anyone know what it is?
    Greg

I have shuffle set to on so I don't think that is it. There must be a way to get the iPod to go from playing only one artist to playing all of them again. Thanks for the reply.

  • 8GB nano doesn't work

I cant get my 8GB Nano I think its 3rd generation. Now this problem is frankly leaving me angered. When I put a cd into the drive it loads the music onto the list or whatever. It tells me that the music is loading, only no music ever gets onto my ipod it just tells me its synching or whatever only it does nothing and the screen on my ipod keeps telling me there is no music. I have noticed that on the righthand side whatever cd is in the drive is listed below the "name" of my ipod with the little arrow going in circles. I have Restored this worthless piece of trash numerous times. I dont watch nor do I load movies photos or anything else I am simply trying to put music onto my ipod any help in the simple form would be greatly appreciated... otherwords techtalk is over my head.
    Thank you
