Refurbished iMac

Hi guys,
are refurbished iMac available only at Apple Store ?
Is there any reseller that sells them on INternet ?
Here in Italy the Apple Store offers only few refurbished products.
Thanks.

Hi,
Your request put me in mind of the commercial for a High Def TV set I saw a few years back. As the guy pointed out all the wonderful features with such raves as, "Look At The Clarity!", "Look At The Color!" I sat in my chair chuckling to myself.
What's so funny? my wife asked.
Well, I replied, given the fact that I am watching the commercial on a 10 year old TV set how exactly does he think I am going to see the clarity and the color?
In other words, any shots you post of your screen problem will be interpreted via someone else's montitor and thus the results won't be dependable.
I know that as someone using their iMac to edit color photos any color cast would be unacceptable to me and I would think Apple would repair or replace yours without question. After all if you wanted a yellowish screen you would have stipulated that when you order your iMac.
All best,
Win

  • I bough a refurbished iMac last year, unfortunately Im in need of a Logic board, but when I search FD093LL/A, no company seems to recognize this model but I do see all models, or at least most, starting with MD...whats the difference?

I bought a refurbished iMac last year, unfortunately I'm in need of a new/used Logic board, but when I search and contact Company with Mac parts, no one seems to recognize FD093LL/A witch makes it tough to identify parts, but I do see most Part Numbers starting with MD. Any reason why?
    Thank you

Refurbished models have a different order number. Replace the F with an M and see if the specifications listed match your computer’s.

I want to buy an imac from the refurb store, but with a magic trackpad. Is it possible to get a magic trackpad with a refurbished imac?

You would have to buy it separately.  Refurbished machines are sold as they were originally configured so you cannot customize the machine when you order it.

  • Why is my new (refurbished) iMac running so slowly?

I just opened my refurbished iMac 27" (mid 2010 2.8 ghz Intel Core i5) today and transfered all my data from my Macbook Pro. Everything went smoothly until I installed the OS X 10.6.8 (I think) update that I was prompted to do. When my computer restarted, it began to run very slowly. So slowly that it is unuseable. Any movement I make with the mouse or keyboard causes it to freeze for long periods of time. I tried restarting, and the same thing happened again. I would call the 1 800 number but they are closed for the night. I suppose I could wait until the morning, but I just wanted to try out my new computer tonight! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's best to wait until the morning and call AppleCare, on  a new machine indexing may slow it down. Once the drive has been fully indexed try again. If it's still slow then restart the machine and see how it is. If that doesn't do it then just wait until the morning.

  • -refurbished iMac has a 20GB partition for Boot Vamp with FAT format.  I want to remove this and replace it with a much bigger format with NTFS formats?

My (new to me) Apple refurbished iMac has a 1TB hard drive. Running OS 10.6.7 Snow Leopard.  When I tried to install a Boot Camp partition, prior to installling Windows 7- 64 bit, I discovered that the machine had a 20 GB Boot Camp partition, too small for what I need.  HOw do I remove the 20 GB partition, and replace it with a 500 GB partition?

I have a number of PC and Mac Pro running Windows Pro, and the OS only needs 80GB partition, plus whatever data etc.
New but used does not sound like Apple Store (refurbished) Specials which would be a 'virgin' OS.
I would reformat and do your own clean install.
There may be something wrong and why it was left that way for one thing. May be a problem with the partition table.
Boot from OS X DVD and you can usually try Disk Utility to "-" remove and then repair and get back, and you of course normally should be able to just use Boot Camp Assistant which is one of its functions - not just to create partition.
For normal resizing, or creating the free space you need has to be in one contiguous chunk and not be fragmented, which is hard to imagine that 500GB is going to be intact.
And whatever you do, rule #1 in the pdf guide: backup before beginning.

  • Refurbished iMac 24" 2.66GHz

Hello, Do the Refurbished iMac 24" 2.66GHz, come with everything that a new one does? For instance, apple remote, ilife, mobile me, ect? Thanks!

    Hi WaZzUp!
Yes a [Refurbished iMac|http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB418LL/A?mco=MjE0NjA3MA] is the same, including the 1 year [Limited Warranty|http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/apple_certified.html] or three with the purchase of [Apple Care|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB585LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA2Mg&mco=NjgwMDIyM Q].
Apple no longer provides a remote with any new iMac, you have to order it at the time of purchase for $19. The difference with a refurbished model is that you will have to order the [Remote|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA128G/B?fnode=MTY1NDA2OA&mco=MjE0NzU 3MQ] separately.

  • New or Refurbished iMac i7?

I'm sure you guys are tired of hearing this but here it goes:
I'm making the jump to the latest 2010 iMac i7 this week but I also like to save money... Does anyone here have a refurbished iMac i7(2010 version), is it the same as new or go for the new. I'm debating since I can get a 7% discount from my job, my total saving will be $180.00...thanks a million, I luv this forum!!!

Got the machine today, in a plain white box as mentioned, without anything to indicate even the tiniest flaw on the machine itself. Set it up, ran Software Update, tested all the ports, Airport, ethernet, etc, then took it for a little spin and can happily say this is probably the best deal I've ever gotten! This thing rocks! And I haven't noticed any hints of yellowing on the screen either (probably my biggest concern). No complaints and only the highest recommendations for Apple's refurb'd product!
Slightly off-topic, this is my first experience with the mini wireless keyboard (I have a wired full-size keyboard on my other iMac) and I have to say that it just feels kind of weird - I keep missing the 'j' key and offsetting my entire right hand because the keyboard just feels 'shrunk'. Guess I'll get used to it eventually, but I'll probably hook up the wired keyboard on this and use the wireless one for the iPad/travel.

  • Refurbished iMac/iLife 11

im interested in the (http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB953LL/A?mco=MTU3ODQ4Mjg#overview) refurbished imac... but.. i have this quiestion.. every new Mac comes with iLife 11 right? so a
    refurbished comes with iLife 11?

A refurbished iMac usually comes with the software that came with it when it was built. If it does not come with iLife '11, you should be able to get it from Apple through the US$6.99 upgrade.

  • Refurbished iMac late 2011. Purchased 16th July 2012

I have a refurbished iMac 21.5 inch late 2011. Upon wake from sleep I cannot access anything the desktop is frozen. The mouse cursor is the only thing that is working.

Thanks for the reply.........I am a at loss to understand why it would be necessary to reinstall the OS at this stage. This iMac was supplied from "Apple Australia" after refurbishment and loaded with 10.7.3 and I updated to 10.7.4. My previuos mid 2007 iMac is now in use by my wife. It started with Leopard OS, then onto Snow Leopard and finally lion 10.7.4. It has been loaded with the same apps etc and is running fine and always has done. Any problems I have encountered along the way I have always solved myself. I noticed this particular problem start before I had finished reinstalling all my apps. I await your reply. I have no qualms reinstalling via Lion Recovery. However I do have lion which I installed on a USB. If I proceed along the route you suggested would it be better to install  from the USB.

  • Refurbished iMac has old owner info in it

I purchased a refurbished imac and it had all of the old users info on it. Not his files but the computer name, user folder, short name on the administrator account, bluetooth etc. It is everywhere. Is there any easy way to get rid of this account and change all instances of him.
    Thanks
imac intel core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hello helptech3,
if the mac is working without any problem I would rather choose a more simple approach and solve this issue in less than 3 minutes.
    1) Go to the System Preferences and create a new user (you) choosing the shortname of your like.
    2) Give it administrative rights (important).
    3) Logout and login into the new user and open again the System Preferences==> Users.
    4) Delete the old user from the list. That's it presto!
You can start now using your brand new user without having to re-install anything of the old software.

  • Refurbished iMac but no user's password

I just bought a refurbished iMac but they don't gave me the last user's password... Please help

There should be no other user accounts on the machine. It should have been wiped. Are you sure it's refurbished? Where did you buy it? What is the exact model that you have (not just iMac.) Did you receive any installation discs with it?

  • If unboxed how could you tell the difference between refurbished imac and new imac?

If unboxed how could you tell the difference between refurbished imac and new imac?

Besides all of that, you can purchase Apple Care which will extend your warranty to 3 years just like you can on a brand new iMac.
If you're considering a "refurbished" iMac, buy it ONLY from Apple.  I believe it's your best bet.

  • Refurbished iMac...anybody have experience with quality level?

I am considering buying a new machine and buying a refurbished product to save a few bucks. Has anybody out there had experience with the level of quality on these machines? Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions!
While I do not have a refurbished iMac, my BlackBook is a refurb and has been performing very well since I bought it back at the end of June.
It came in the plain brown box, but everything arrived in flaweless condition and it even smelled new.
Since it comes with the same one year warranty that a new unit does and you still have the option to extend that to three years with AppleCare, they are a great deal.
Bmer has a friend that received a bend MacBook Pro (or maybe it was a PowerBook) that Apple promptly arranged for a repalcement, but that is the exception rather than the rule. By and large you will receive a unit that is every bit as good as a new one, but save money.
Another thing to mention is that some users report receiving upgrades at no additional charge. Apple advertises the base configuaration and then ships out that they have in stock. That may mean extra RAM or a larger hard drive, but do not count on it. For that reason, I sugest waiting to receive your MB before ordering any upgrades.
