Refurbished iPhone 5s (16Gb) says out of storage space when it shouldn't be out.
My sister recently got a refurbished 16 Gb iPhone 5s through AT&T. When I went to sync her data from her old iPhone 4 (16 Gb) it told me that there was not enough storage space on the phone. Because here old iPhone was never upgraded to iOS 7, I figured that the lack of room was associated with the larger operating system (I know a few people who had that issue last September). After skimming down her photos and music, I managed to sync the phone.
However, her phone displayed a message saying that it was low on storage space. I checked in the usage menu in the settings to see that there is 0 bytes available and 12.6 Gb used. Since I watched my sister remove half of her music library and 1,000 photos, I didn't believe that the storage could be completely out. After a quick tally of the apps in the usage menu, I estimate that just under 8 Gb of memory should be used.
I'm not sure if there is some other program or part of the OS that is using up the rest of the memory (seems unlikely) or is it possible that the issue is related to the fact that it is a refurbished phone. I would greatly appreciate any suggestoions or explanations as to why this happens.

What happens if you add, say a new pages document.
Hold down the alt key after opening the Finders 'Go" menu, choose 'Library' from the menu, look in 'Mobile Documents' and let me know what you see, you can look in various folders at will, but don't go moving or deleting anything. Look for any large unexplained documents.

You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone. -
Dear apple, I am really dissapointed with you. Around January 2013, my iPhone 4s 16GB White has hardware issues, which was the Wi-Fi grey out. The wifi grey out means that I can't access the wifi on/off button, and also it has no connection. I have put up with it for months, until june 7 when I decided it has been long enough, and I got a replacement. I told the genius bar what happened, and I already did the so called "steps" that apple reccommended on the site, which was reset network settings, restore iPhone. The genius bar gave me a replacement phone, so I was expecting that the problem would be over, but it isn't. It seems that it's iOS 6.1.3 which is the case of most public complaints on apple iPhone products. Not even 3 weeks after I got the phone replaced, it is doing it again, so I suspect I'm just going to get a replacement again? Unfortunately I only have until 5th of july 2013 until my 1 year warranty is up. After that, any issue I have, I have to purchase apple care. People are expecting this problem to be fixed but I don't see it being solved any time soon. This is horrible and really low, because I have been a good customer, when I talk to the people at the genius bar, I show the utmost respect I can to them for the work they put into their job, but somewhere there is a problem where something has gone wrong. Because of that, people that only have a one year warranty (which i received because I purchased my apple iPhone at an Optus outlet, once that one year warranty is up, I have to pay for a problem that isn't even my fault? That isn't how it should work, you should be fixing this problem so people can be happy customers and leave happy. Obviously you don't all know how to do your jobs, because if you did, we wouldn't have this problem. I would like a replacement phone, ONCE AGAIN. If this problem occurs again, I will simply stop buying your products, and lose faith in your company, your's sincerely, Jack Maher.

My iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPad 2 are running 6.1.3 with no such problem and the same with the overwhelming majority of iOS devices running 6.1.3. -

Alert TM only deletes older files if they have been deleted from the source and when TM needs space on the backup drive for a new incremental backup. Time Machine "thins" it's backups; hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first of the day; those "daily" backups over 30 days old, except the first of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there's room.
So, how long a backup file remains depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming you do at least one backup per day. If it was there for at least 24 hours, it will be kept for at least a month. If it was there for at least a week, it will be kept as long as there's room.
Note, that on a Time Capsule the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but doesn't shrink. Thus, from the user's view of the TC it appears that no space has been freed, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.
Once TM has found it cannot free up enough space for a new backup it reports the disk is full. You can either erase the backup drive and start your backups anew or replace the drive with a larger drive. You can also use the Time Machine application to selectively remove files, but that may be ineffective if you have to free up GBs of space. -

I am out of storage space on my iPhone but have plenty on my iPad. My first question is can I use iCloud to supplement additional storage space on my phone? If not, can I delete pictures etc from my phone but keep them on the iPad? I don't want to lose them completely.

Why does my I-Phone 4 tell me that it can't back up onto i-Cloud as it has run out of storage space, but when I look at i-Cloud storage it tells me I have 4.7GB out of 5GB available?

Please can you help. My ipad is frozen. A box is permently on in the centre of the screen saying not enought storage. When i press on the words CLOSE or SETTINGS it doesn't respond. It won't slide to unlock or close down. The ipad is 16GB and about a year old. Any suggestions.
AnnmarieTHis suggestion also worked for my iphone! After a few warnings, the screen on my iPhone froze. there was no way to make phone calls or manage my iCloud storage or even turn it off. I deleted all the photos on my iphone, checked storage and nothing changed. So I purchased more storage, did the backup and still the screen remained frozen. To be sure, I checked that the new amount of storage was registered, it was but somehow my Mac showed the backup I had just performed (a couple of times) not having happened (it show the last one some 2 weeks before). Weird but I followed your suggestion (wish I had seen it before I purchased new storage) and Ta DAH!!! I'm back in business too. thanks!!

TS3992 Phone running out of storage space, bought 15GB of iCloud storage...still not working
My phone was running out of storage space so my friend suggested I backup my files to iCloud. After doing this and paying for 15GB, I still am unable to take any new photos. This did not open up new space for me and it says there is still 7.7GB available. HELP. My friend who told me to do this said it worked for her and she has 25GB. My phone allowed me to take screenshots before and now I can't save anything. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any help here?

This more than likely means you are running out of Space LOCALLY on your Device and you need to Delete Data OFF your Device...
If this is the case... Getting Additional iCloud Storage will not fix your issue.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

The storage space is the iPad storage space, not iCloud storage space. What size Ipad do you have?

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

ICloud "running out of storage space"?
Recently, iCloud is sending messages that I am running out of storage space. It says I have used 4.8GB out of the 5GB available to me. However, the storage space by apps does not add up to the shown used space.

Recently ran out of storage space on my laptop, where I have been storing all music/videos purchased from iTunes. The music library points to a location in the hard disc of the laptop. Now that I have no more space on the internal hard disc I acquired an external 250 GB disc. What's the best way to move forward with iTunes? I don't really know what to do.
1. Should I copy all existing music/videos to the external drive?
2. Should I point the library to the new location on the external drive?
3. Should I delete all existing music/videos from internal storage and leave them on the external drive?
4. How to avoid double entries of each song/video?
