Refurbished ipod 30G with video

I recently bought a 30 GB ipod (refurb) from an Apple store. The other day I tried to upload an mpeg to the iPod, which didn't work.
I want to make sure I'm using the right type of video before I take the iPod back.
I downloaded a program called VisualHub which has an iPod converter setting. When I uploaded the video, the first frame was visible, but the movie did not play.
Is there a good program for converting movie files to iPod.

I had to replace my old 80gig Ipod, so I bought the new 160 gig classic. When I pugged it into my Sonic Impact V55 audio-video player that the old one worked fine in it will not work. The sound works for the music files, but when I use the TV out to play videos it says to connect the Ipod even when it is already connected. The same thing happens with a Belkin audio-video cord. The Sonic people say that this is because Apple changed the software in the new classic Ipods. I have spent a lot of money on accessories and can't believe Apple would do this without a remedy. Ipod 30g with os 9 ever going to work?

So I plugged in my video ipod to my pc at home and it was slow but worked. Now I want to get all the songs from my mac at work onto the ipod. I am running os 9, with itunes 2.0.4 not recognizing it. There is no icon on the desktop either. I have done countless downloading and haven't gotten anywhere. any suggestions?

xdetoxedx, I just replied your other post. Nope, all the newer iPods will only work in OS X environment.
Why are you still in 9, upgrade now to enjoy all that is to offer in OS X, including iTunes 6 which will play video...

30gig video iPod freeze with video.

after i updated from 1.1.2 to 1.2 and 6.whateva itunes to 7 every time i watch a video my ipod freezes. I do not have a copy of itunes 6 backed up so i am downloading from a torrent site now. I spoke with tech support and they say they have not heard of this issue befor and its goin to take 3 days for an engineer to call me back.
I have formated the ipod on both a PC and a Mac with the same results.
has any one else exprenced problems similar to these?

ya i'm having the same problem and its making me ****** cause its what i use along with the ihome to goto sleep so now i can't sleep good : ( and i need my sleep cause i have to go to school **** you apple just say theres a problem and correct it

Ipod classic with video but no sound on music

I can not get any of my songs to make noise, my volume is set all the way up w/o a lock. The video and music viedos plays with sound but the songs don't!!help?!?

Hello, I am not familiar with FF, using IE6. But what caught my eye is you said you downloaded the active x plugin "when prompted"
That is how I came to know there even was a F.P.10 update, a window popped up and said it was availabe and did I want to install now,
later or remind me later. I said, sure, install now. LOL I have since resolved my problem.
I know on the Adobe site, there is a download and install for Windows and one for FF. Do you think the "prompt" installed on IE? I wouldn't think so, but it's a thought. I know you can switch back and forth from FF to IE
Also it might be a good idea to go to www.adobe.com/software/flash/about and Adobe will tell you if you have installed F.P. & they will tell you the version as well.
Like I said, not familiar with FF, but with IE, I had to go into manage add ons & update the active x of Shockwave Flash & Reboot.

IPod 30GB with Video

Does anyone else get distortion or static instead of music? I've tried EVERYTHING...on three seperate computers too. My iPod is only a week old. What should I do?

If you've tried EVERYTHING, then you should arrange for a replacement of a defective item.
If this is your first iPod, you may not have actually tried everything, so letting us know what you have done would be helpful.
If I were you at this point, I would try to determine if the issue is the iPod or the headphones. If you have access to another set of headphones (any type with the correct jack will work....does not need to be Apple headphones), see if you have the same issue. If you get the same distortion on another set of headphones, then the iPod is probably the culprit.
If you really want to find out more, you can play music directly from the iPod on your computer. If it plays without distortion, it would show an issue with the headphone jack.

Ipod photo with video

when is apple going to provide a new software update that will enable ipod photo users to view also videos

This has been discussed when the video iPod first came out.
The answer is... No.
Why? The video iPod has some extra hardware (chips) that handle the video, where-as the photo iPod does not. So the photo iPod can't handle the current video.
Although, there is the Linux on an iPod "hack" that does allow limited video.

IPod lifespan with video exclusive use

I already own a 4th gen iPod for audio...I plan to get a 5th gen strictly for video. My concern is about the continual use of the hard drive and the unit's lifespan. Any reasurrance will be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your comments.

I don't think that it will damage your ipod. Make sure you get the 60gb ipod because the battery lasts longer, especially if your only using it for videos.

IPOD 30G w/video. Seach feature

I have a 30G iPOD bought in June. I just upgrade de version to 1.2 from web. Does anybody knows why I cant access de music search feature.
I just see it in another 80G.
When I spin the weel, I can see big letters on the center of the screen for a fast search of song (just like de 80G) but when I go to Music the seach feature doesnt show
Do I have to upgrade to a different version? This feature is just related to certain iPOD software versions? Do I have to activate this feature some place?

The early versions of the 5G does not allow that function. This is what you probably have. Only the late 2006 versions are capable of searching in this manner.

Regarding a refurbished ipod Touch: Do they come with a new screen and/or battery?

I am deciding if I should (to save money) order a refurbished 4th gen. ipod touch. I previously had a refurbished 2nd gen. touch and had no problems with it.
If anyone can answer these 2 questions, I'd appreciate it...
1. I know a refurbished ipod comes with a new outer shell...does that include a new screen or do I take a chance at getting a scratched up screen?
2. Do they put a new battery in the refurbished ipods, or do I get a partially used battery causing me to have to replace it sooner?
Both of these will come into play as I make my decision to buy one at the refurbed price or full price.

It depends on who you buy it from. If you buy it at a store you can usually ask to use it or which ios it has. If you get one that has iOS 6 you can update to iOS 7 anytime. If you get iOS 7 you cannot downgrade. So in the end, it depends on who you buy it from and if the store/company can tell you.

The ability to play a file in iTunes means that is is QT compatible -- not neccessarily iPod compatible.
If the message states that a particular file is not playable on the iPod, then the file is either in the wrong format or one or more parameters does/do not meet iPod compatiblity restrictions. For instance, a DivX MPEG4 video file with MPEG layer-3 audio would not be playable. Normally, it is a simple problem associated with video data rate limitations or failure to use a specific required profile for the format you are employing. In addition, movie content can sometimes "trick" the encoder and cause a momentary "peak" in the data rate that triggers iTunes to reject the file during sync operations.
If the message states that the iPod "generically" cannot play videos, then you do not have an iPod model with video capabilities.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

ITunes 7.0.1 & iPod 30G video--freeze while trying to synch/update.

I updated to iTunes 7, and then to 7.0.1 a few days ago. I have had no problems downloading/uploading (other than the fact that downloads are much slower than in version 6) or playing music or videos in iTunes 7 or 7.0.1, however, I have been unable to synch my 30GB video iPod with iTunes. I haven't been able to upload any of my new downloads since going to iTunes 7 or 7.0.1--frustrating! I plug in my iPod, iTunes starts up, it starts the synch, and within seconds I get the spinning beach ball of death. The progress bar stops moving at about 1/3 of the way across. I don't get any error messages, it just freezes. I left it for over an hour and no progress. I have to force quit iTunes, usually twice, to get it to stop, and then when I try to eject my iPod I get a message saying the iPod is in use by another user. I rebooted my iPod, to no avail.
The second aspect of this issue is that I didn't update my iPod to 1.2--assuming that has anything to do with present problems, but maybe not--before I updated iTunes, and now I can't. Since iTunes freezes when I have the iPod plugged in, I can't access the iPod preferences menu, can't update, nothing...
I am a new iPod user, and am by no means techno savvy, so please forgive me if I am overlooking the major and obvious. I have spent a lot of time combing various forums/discussions, and haven't found any answers. Any help appreciated!

Old Composite Video cable (Tangerine iBook) not compatible with Video iPod

I discovered a little surprise.
Despite being exactly identical on both ends of the cable, an old Apple Composite Video cable, originally purchased for a Tangerine iBook, is not compatible with Video iPod.
Anybody confirms such situation, or is it just my Video iPod with a faulty video output?
