Hi Everybody,
New to this forum and i want to know about upgrading the essbase from 7.1.x to 9.3.x...As i gone through PDF, it is mentioning as upgrading of 9.3.x from earlier versions prior to release 9.2.x cannot be done directly...Here comes with the migration/upgradation topic wherein... Can we go ahead and install essbase 9.3.x on new box and migrate app's / db's from 7.1.x old box?
One more thing is like...if we are using External authentication using LDAP in 7.1.x version for security....will it be mandatory to implement shared services separately in system 9 or continue with native security mode without installing shared services...I have only essbase and no other tools implemented...
Hope u guys understand my queries!...If any body can explain on these two aspects...will be of great help to me...

You will have to migrate the Essbase server from 7.1.2 to 9.3.1
The steps you will follow are as below: --
1. Configure Essbase on new environment, 9.3.1 by using the same user as on 7.1.2 [THIS IS AN IMPORTANT STEP, TO MIGRATE SECURITY]
1. Take data exports of all application/databases in old environment
2. Take backups of all Essbase objects, including essbase.sec in old environment. Take security file backup after stopping Essbase 7.1.2
3. Create the applications/databases with same name in new environment 9.3.1
4. Copy the outlines and open outline in EAS in 9.3.1 and save them again.
5. Copy all objects, rules, reports, calc for all applications.
6. Stop essbase, Eas in new environment and copy security file from old environment to new environment Take backup of Essbase.sec on new environment
7. Start Essbase 9.3.1
8. Validate all databases using Esscmd "validate" command
9. Reimport all data and run default calc on all applications.
10. Now, you have the security in new Essbase server, as in old environment
11. Externalize the security in EAS.
Caution: When you migrate to Shared Services, Essbase users and groups are converted to equivalent roles
in Shared Services. Shared Services creates a superuser with the user ID named “admin,” which
is read-only. If Essbase contains a user ID named “admin”, that user ID cannot be migrated to
Shared Services. Before migrating, change the “admin” user ID (for example, from “admin” to
“asadmin”).
It is not compulsory to use shared services with Essbase 9.3.1, if you have Essbase only.
but since it the way to go, you will have to migrate your essbase security to shared services.

Take the High Priority Report from 10 Version and validate that results with the 11 version.Make sure both are same.
And coming to security wise,Check whether Data Level and Object Level has been implemented successively or not with some examples.

We have 5 Solaris servers on Solaris 9 & 4 CPU's in a cluster. We currently have 48 GB RAM in all the servers. We are planning to upgrade the servers to108 GB RAM.
The below mentioned is the configuration of the servers. Please update on the upcoming RAM.

I think you're a little confused as to what you already have - but here's what you can actually have in each system...
V480 - max 4 CPU (dual core = 8 cores, not 8 CPUs)
Memory
8 memory slots (DIMMs) per processor, 16 total slots per CPU/Memory Board
256-MB, 512-MB, or 1-GB expansion (16GB maximum per CPU/Memory board, 32GB maximum when configured with 4 processors)
Note: Install DIMMs in groups of four. 1050MHz & faster CPU/Memory boards require that all memory DIMM slots be fully populated.
V490 - Max 4 CPU (dual core = 8 cores, not 8 CPUs)
8 memory slots (DIMMs) per processor, 16 total slots per CPU/Memory Board
512MB, 1GB, or 2GB expansion (32GB maximum per CPU/Memory board, 64GB maximum when configured with 4 processors)

You click on the tab for Patches and do the search.
That is part of your job as a DBA.
It is, at least to me, highly offensive that you would ask strangers to do for you what you can do for yourself in less than three minutes.
And then you want someone else to read the patch instructions and rewrite them for you?

If some total stranger pointed you to the wrong patch and/or gave you incorrect instructions what would you do? Destroy your employer's database?

I am sorry if the above sounds harsh but were I to find someone reporting to me had posted what you did they would be unemployed within 15 minutes. Hopefully from what I have written you will reconsider your approach to your profession.

Creating Boot Environment for Live Upgrade

Hello.
I'd like to upgrade a Sun Fire 280R system running Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 U4. I'd like to use Live Upgrade to do this. As that's going to be my first LU of a system, I've got some questions. Before I start, I'd like to mention that I have read the �Solaris 10 8/07 Installation Guide: Solaris Live Upgrade and Upgrade Planning� ([820-0178|http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-0178]) document. Nonetheless, I'd also appreciate pointers to a more �hands-on� documentation/howto reg. live upgrade.
The system that I'd like to upgrade has these filesystems:

d23 is/used to be c1t1d0s4. I'd do this for d30, d32 and d34 as well. Plan is, that I'd be able to use these newly freed slices on c1t1d0 for LU. I know that I'm in trouble when c1t0d0 now dies. But that's okay, as that system isn't being used anyway right now...
Or wait, I can use lucreate to do that as well, can't I? So, instead of manually detaching the mirror, I could do:

SAP BCM IVR

Hi Experts,
I have a requirement to avoid messages being played more than once, when customers call the call center through SAP BCM - IVR.
For example, a message should be displayed to the customer reg an upgrade in his status, say from Silver to Gold.
This message should be played only once to the customer. This message should not be played again.
For specific messages like Birthday messages, the message should be played once a year.
Can you please help me out in determining whether this functionality is achievable and how to develop this.

I'd suggest the following.
Firstly, you need to keep somewhere information have you played this prompt to the customer or not yet. For me it's seems easier to keep it in SAP CRM (if you have it in a landscape and it's integrated with BCM) and make it available externally with a SOAP web service.
So, when the customer calls IVR, there should be a SOAP state which will get an information from CRM about should the next prompt (birthday congratulation, notifaction, whatever) be played for him or not. Then there should be a DATACHECK state which actually makes a decision (the fork: play or skip playing).
Other option is to store the information in some z-table on the SQL Server itself and with CUSTOM state read it from there.

1) Is there any procedure from which we can transport all the tables ddic structures(data element, field domains....etc) and all the rows of a table from one devlopment server to other server.? OR we have to manually create each and every table on a new server and upload the data by using bdc?
2) How to find out which all user_exits will be affected or used in the current server Ztables?
3)Except tables and bdc what other things needs to be considered before upgradation.

Hi Sunny,
These are the few things you should do in upgrade.
In a Upgrade an ABAPer is required to do the following task. This is the most typical list.
1. Executing the transaction SPDD and SPAU. Here he requires the help of functional consultants to clear the objects. There is lot of explanation about these transaction in help.sap.com.
2. Look at all the Z objects (programs, tables, function modules) for syntax check and if there is any issue resolve them.
3. BDC is the area of most concern as there may be change in the screen numbers and sequence so special care requires.
4. Look at the User Exits and test their functionality.
5. If SAP system is connected with other system then after upgrade check the connection and all the functionalist.

Reg : Importing Mapping from PI 7.0 to PI 7.0 EHP upgraded

Dear Experts,
I have done few huge changes in the mapping existing in our test system which was opened for editing because of EHP upgrading of our Development system.
Now development system is EHP upgraded and Test system is plain.
Is there any way we can import the chagnes done at Test environment back into the development environment without having to redo the changes in Development environment.
I have also exported the changes as tpz file in the export path of our Test system.

We have an outstanding balance (though we have received no past due notice via mail, email, or text and make regular payments every month) that I would love to pay, but our bank account number was stolen, so we can't access our account until Monday. Because we were unable to pay our outstanding balance, we were told we can't order the phones today during the special promotion (that ends today). No one can help us, though we have no way of doing anything until Monday when our bank reopens and can reimburse us for the money that was stolen from us. No one in customer service can help us (they can't process the order but not ship until after we make payment on Monday, they won't honor today's promotion on Monday due to our special circumstance, nothing). They stated that "corporate" makes the rules and they have no idea how I can reach corporate to discuss the matter. Without the promotion, we will be charged full price for the phones on Monday, which will cost us an additional $300.00. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I hope that you aren't complaining about dropped calls INSIDE your condo because no amount of switching or upgrading devices will solve that.
VZW will not guarantee service inside of any structure. There are just too many factors. If the problem is inside then you might want to look at one of the following:
1.) Network Extender (may cause issues for others in a condo or apartment style setting)
2.) A Google Voice Number (Free with a Gmail email address), downloading Google Hangouts Dialer and forwarding your calls to the GVN so that you can make and receive calls over Wi-Fi.

Just go to the latest kernel.... no point in going from an old kernel to another old kernel. Usually kernels are released every quarter so just get the latest available.

We are in the process of ECC 6.O upgrade from ECC 5.0,
we started the CT1/ CT2 testing and found the following error.
While inwarding Material against Subcontracting purchase order / S.L.Agreement ,
The system shows the error message of CHALLEN MATERIAL IS DIFFRENT FROM MATERIAL DOCUMENT , during GR
note :- for the same material , same p.o , some times systems allows for GR & some times gives above error message.
if i try with some other login , the behaviourseems to be same as my login
Can anyone tell this why this inconsistency behaviour of system during GR for sub contracting item..

Reg upgrade of Physical Standby from 9i -10g

hi guys,I'm planning to upgrade my database from 9i 9.2.0.7-10g 10.2.0.3...along with Physical Standby Site....

what I conluded from this links is...Just writing the high level steps
-Apply all the Archive logs on Standby
-install the Oracle Software on Primary Standby
-Upgrade the Primary
-Start the Standby with password file and spfile from the new home..and set the FAL parameters
I might be missing some steps here
but
I just wanted to make sure we actually dont upgrade the Standby as we do with Primary just installing the 10g software on Standby as well and starting the instance with spfile from 10g home with same set of datafies....is considered to be the upgrade.......of Standby database????????looks too simple

You could certainly reinstall Apex to make sure that Apex-related packages and procedures are re-granted properly, but that still won't solve the other cases where specific non-Apex-related packages were granted but became "ungranted" after the upgrade. I'm not involved with DB upgrades myself, so the whole procedure is a bit "black box" to me, so I don't know if packages that were granted become revoked on an upgrade. Talk to you DBA about the DB upgrade and find out what packages were granted by default.
but we may get other errors down the line because of other privileges that are still missing...Probably, and depending on the exact 10g version you installed, there are other DB bugs that will mess with Apex. Was this upgrade done on a test instance first or just production? In either case, run through all your applications and see if anything else breaks. If possible (and appropriate) notify your users that an upgrade occurred and that you've tried to resolve any problems but some might be hiding out there. It's not bad to be cautious--we tend to run things the other way and upgrade overnight, do a few checks to see that nothing is 100% broken and come in the next morning to all kinds of fun errors the users found.
