Reg:IZ0-051

Hello,
I am preparing for IZ0-051 and I have few clarifications regarding it.
IZ0-051 is a multiple choice exam, but I was wondering whether the exam will specify the number of options to choose. For eg: (Choose 2 options)
Everybody seems to say that IZ0-051 is very very hard. Seems to be very discouraging. :(
I would like to weigh my self as whether I am ready for the test or not. Is there any specific practice test that I can take and weigh myself?
Is there any practice exams that is recommended?
Thanks for all your help.I appreciate it.
Roopa

Is there any practice exams that is recommended?Yes, you can have practice tests refer:
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=208
These are the only approved practice test from oracle.
Also you can purchase book *OCA: Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate Study GuideExams 1Z0-051  [With CDROM]* , In this book also you will have practice tests.
Hope helps :)

  • Oracle certification  IZ0-007 or IZ0-051 10g?

Hi please any body suggest me which exam to take
I want complete details fir the following also
    1. difference between IZ0-007 10g and 9i
    2. difference between IZ0-051 10g and 9i
suggest me which exam to take?
    thanks in advance.

    See the following thread:
Plz guide me which exam to give 1z0-007 0r 1z0-051
    - with regards SQL there really is more similarities between 9i - 10g - 11g than there are diffierences. They are all pretty well upwards compatible. There's more in the higher versions, and they will accept more ANSI syntax. The differences will be listed in Oracle Documentation if you really need to go and look.

  • Difference btween iz0-051 and iz0-007?

whats the difference between iz0-051 and iz0-031 exam??I am doing some training for iz0-007 can i sit for the exam of iz0-051?both the course looks similar but dnt know the difference btwen them?

The 9i DBA track to OCP normally requires:
    1z0-007 (SQL Exam)
    1z0-031 (DBA Fundamentals 1)
Passing both of these give DBA OCA entitlement.
    1z0-032 ((DBA Fundamentals 2)
    1z0-033 (Performance Tuning)
Passing both of these give DBA OCP entitlement providing approved hands-on course has been attended.
My understanding (not authorative) is authorized delivery of the WDP DBA track provides all of this.
    1z0-051 is a SQL Exam:
    - It is 11g Based and contains a number of items present in 11g (and 10g) not present in earlier releases.
    - It probably uses the preferred ansi syntax as opposed to Oracle Syntax for some joins.
    - While the syllabus and passing difficulty is meant to be similar.
    - It is a more modern exam and usually the relevance of the topics and questions is improved.
There is usually little point in taking 1z0-051 if you have taken 1z0-007. I will alway suggest people consider 1z0-051 as opposed to 1z0-007
( unless they are concentrating on 9i for the WDP program reasons etc).
The 1z0-047 may be considered for people who wish to demonstrate advanced SQL, and an OCE is granted for passing this. This exam is more difficult.
In general recommend for you concentrate on exams relevant to 9i WDP DBA track till that passed.
    Rgds - bigdelboy.
PS: But you can essentially take whatever exams you like whenever you like in whatever order you like if you pay the money (however it is good to be sensible about such things).

  • Certification topics for 1z0-051

I am preparing for the SQL fundamental exam 1z0-051. I am following the book :"OCA: Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate Study Guide: (Exams1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052) " by Biju Thomas.
Question: The exam topics in Oracle's certification website do not indicate subtopics. eg. Group functions is a topic listed but are sub-topics such as ROLLUP and CUBE part of the certification?
    Thanks in advance.

[amazon link|http://www.amazon.com/Oracle-Database-Osborne-ORACLE-Press/dp/0071498508/ref=pd_sim_b_3] is this book enough for iz0-051??
can you refer a sybex book for this,so that can tally the explanations?...............
For anyone who has SQL experience, or has studied SQL as part of a WDP, or has a general SQL book already then either of the two books (+ their associated practice test in book and on CDROM should be adequate for 1z0-051:I did not get any testkit CDROM forr 007 even.as i am under WDP for 9i.
    * ISBN-13: 978-0071597869: OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-051 (Oracle Press)i found 2008 edition in our local market.so ISBN no. did not match.
    * ISBN-13: 978-0470395127: OCA: Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate Study Guide: (Exams1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052) (Sybex)this book (probably written by Biju Thomas).
The first is usually cheaper, the second while more expensive also covers 1z0-052. I have seen the first book and it is adequate ; and I know of no reason why the second should not be adequate too. While for the self studying for OCA/OCP 10g/11g candidates i somtimes hint to people they should consider getting both Oracle Press and Sybex books; for this exam i tend to think this is not so necessary for most people.
    wrt the book you referenced:
    * ISBN-13: 978-0071498500: Oracle Database 11g SQL (Osborne ORACLE Press Series)
This book is designed to cover 11g SQL in general. It is more orientated towards learning and reference. While not tied to an exam it does probably cover most (if not all) topics needed for 1z0-047. Probably most professionals would find it as easy to look up oracle documentation most of the time. I actually have it, mainly because I it was an easy way for me to get a grip on the newer ANSI join forms whcih I am less useful. I cant say its not useful, but certainly some people would find it of limited use and others are quite happy with it.This book still to come in local market(india).
Thanx.whatever..........but remember this sybex books have very little hands on practice.ie.hardly you will find a query that is left for your practice. All of questions in MCQ basis.

  • Simple Dates Subtraction

Hello guis, i'm new here. I'm studying for iz0-051 certification exam and I would really appreciate if you can help me out with this doubt i have..
I know that a character literal can be implicitly converted to a date if it follows the mask '[dd,DD] separator [mm,MM,Mon] separator [yy,rr,yyyy] etc..etc...
then.. why doesn't this simple subtraction go through (number of days between a certain date and the current sysdate)?
    select sysdate - '01-jan-2012' from dual;
it gives "ora-01722 invalid number" error, shouldn't it implicitly convert the literal to a date and then subtract it from sysdate? what am I doing wrong?
    thanks for your help,
    Paolo

    Welcome to the forum.
(Don't forget to read the SQL and PL/SQL FAQ @ https://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=1535)
Oracle isn't considering implicit conversion that way (and that's a good thing).
You should never rely on implicit datatype conversions.
    SQL> select sysdate - '01-jan-2012' from dual;
select sysdate - '01-jan-2012' from dual
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01722: invalid number
    SQL> select sysdate - to_date('01-jan-2012') from dual;
    SYSDATE-TO_DATE('01-JAN-2012')
239.59963The other way around will not work either:
    SQL> select '01-jan-2012' - sysdate from dual;
select '01-jan-2012' - sysdate from dual

  • OCA 2nd exam ..

    Hi,
I am doing OCA - Oracle 10G DBA track, and recently cleared SQL fundamentals exam (IZ0-051). Now i plan to do Oracle DB 10g Admin I i.e. Iz0-042.
I currently own a Win laptop with 4gb RAM and Win 7 as O/S, i plan to install Oracle on the same ....correct me if i am wrong , i cannot load Oracle 10g on Win 7, rather i will have to load 11g since oracle 10g is not going to be certified for win 7 ?
Also would it make any diff. from cert. point of view because of above limitation, if i load Oracle 11g and prepare for Oracle 10g certification ?
Other option which i was thinking to go for was to load some linux baased version on vmware and install Oracle on that... any comments ...
    Waiting for your reply.

Be away i have not donw this nor check the relevant requirements
    1) This will probably be the case than you would need 11gR2
    2) If you only have windows 7 home edition this may not be adequate ... professional/business edition will probably be needed. (i have not checked this carefully).
Also would it make any diff. from cert. point of view because of above limitation, if i load Oracle 11g and prepare for Oracle 10g certification ?
Obviously not perfect, but should be adequate, especially if you keep aware of any differences.
Other option which i was thinking to go for was to load some linux baased version on vmware and install Oracle on that... any comments ...
Again should be a good choice. In fact i sometimes tend to recommend this as you may not oracle enterprise edition entwined in the old laptop windows registry and taking up your windows ram and cpu. Sun(now oracle) virtualbox should be an alternative to vmware.
    Waiting for your reply.

Be aware that to get DBA OCP you need to attend a hands on course at some point ..... Its expensive so plan it in carefully, unless yu have money for courses all the way!
[http://www.oracle.com/education/certification] ... certification paths and locate your certification.
Oracle also do self study cdroms, many would also find these expensive.
In practice you will probably find youself buying the appropriate Oracle Press and/or Sybex books related to the 11g DBA OCA/OCA exams.
From other posts you seem to already have some SQL grounding,
    Thus start off with 1z0-051,
often ISBN-13: 978-0071597869 can be picked up cheaply, and while arguably having some mistakes is overall probably a ggod.
(For those well versed in SQL then 1z0-047 is a tougher alternative, be aware though the price of that exam has increased 50% recently in some places so you dont want to go failing it too often)

Learner1) If you take the exam at a Pearson VUE Test Center current practice is you should get a score report for each exam (excluded), be it pass or fail.
    2) My understanding is you may also be able to print this off from the Pearson View History Display.
    - I recently within the last week cleared 1z0-047 at a test center, the result was printed to me, and the status on Pearson VUE is 'taken'
(Other status I have at Pearson VUE from LPIC/MySQL have been canceled and passed ... so I dont know if it will go form taken to pass but it was a pass).
    - What I cannot seem to do however is to print my score report from that website (eg telling me I have failed to answer a question creating a simple table ... etc etc). I had heard rumours that that is possible, however all I could print is details of the appointment and result status.
    3) If you take the exam online I am not sure what one gets and when and how.
None of these documents are authorative proof anyway.
For authorative proof one needs to have earned a certification.
A certification is awarded when a set of requirements (one or more exams, sometimes a hands on course or prior certifcation) have been met and verified by Oracle.
When this happens Oracle will send a Certification Success Kit and your Certification will be available on a system called Certview.
A video about Certview can be viewed Here: [http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/2009/11/0139.html]
Certview can publish to employers only the Certifications you require (Certview does not publish exam results).
Essentially apart from the end of test score report there is no way of doing what you ask.

plz help me to choose the right certification path which make me learn new topics and even boost my career.
    For Level 1: IZ0-047 or IZ0-051.
    For level 2: IZ0-144 or IZ0-147.
    For level 3:only 1 choice IZ0-146.
i even need suggestions on combinations....
    IZ0-047+IZ0-147 ?? or IZ0-051+IZ0-144
    Thanks in advance..

Thanks in advance..1z0-147 is an old exam and IMHO has a poor choice of subjects and is out of date and is targeted somewhat at PL/SQL use within forms. 1z0-144 is a more modern exam targetted an more modern PL/SQL needs.
Between 1z0-051 and 1z0-047 the choice is different. 1z0-051 is an 'easier' and less advanced exam than 1z0-047, therefore you should be able to get up to speed and pass it much easier. However you will learn some useful SQL techniques studying to pass 1z0-047. For 1z0-047 you get the SQL OCE certificate as well.
Perhaps a good choice, if you have the money, is to take 1z0-051 first and then 1z0-047 if you feel like it, perhaps after you have your PL/SQL OCP.
    But the choice is yours.
If you start studying for 1z0-051, and find it too easy, consider switching to study for 1z0-047. The topics on 1z0-047 are are superset of 1z0-051's (Though 1z0-051 might not go into so much detail on some areas of 1z0-051).

    Hi,

But before that should i need to clear Iz0-007 (9i sql) paper?
If so could any one please suggest the study material for that exam?
what should i prepare for this 9i sql exam?

Firstly, I'd suggest you to post your question under [Certification |http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=459] topic :)
Secondly, I'd suggest you to attend an Oracle University course, read documentation and refer to Sybex book " [Introduction to Oracle9i SQL Study Guide: Exam 1Z0-007|http://www.sybex.com/WileyCDA/SybexTitle/OCA-OCP-Introduction-to-Oracle9i-SQL-Study-Guide-Exam-1Z0-007.productCd-0782140629,navId-290633,pageCd-errata.html] " which helped me (and many other DBAs) to pass this exam successfully :)

  • Oracle iz0-51 or iz0-47

    Hi,
I have a basic knowledge of SQL an pl/sql so out of these two which certification should i take i am confused..other than exam topics is there any difference....
    EXAM
    1Z0-047
    Oracle Database SQL Expert
    or
    1Z0-051
Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I
sql expert(iz0-47) is for both 10g and 11g???
    thanks in advance

It's really up to you which exam you choose to take. Aside from some differences in the exam topics, I understand there is also a difference in the difficulty level as well. The Oracle Database SQL Expert (1Z0-047) is a much more challenging exam than the SQL Fundamentals I (1Z0-051) version. It's hard to compare the two on any level other than Exam Topics though as I have not taken BOTH exams myself and I doubt you will find many that people that have. Most have only taken one or the other.
For myself, I chose to take (and passed) the Oracle Database SQL Expert exam over the SQL Fundamentals I exam for the following reasons:
    1. I believed it to be a more difficult exam in terms of content and topic coverage. This required that I spend much more time studying and learning the material, and in the end, that helped me to really know the material better. This is what certification is all about anyway right? Learning the material? So not only does this exam being harder make the certification more valuable, but it gives you a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of SQL which can only be good for you.
    2. I am not fond of exams that are not proctored. Being able to sign up for and take an exam from inside your own home, as you can with the Fundamentals exam, seems to leave a lot of room for cheating and flagrant abuse. Thus, I am not a fan.
    3. This exam comes with it's own specialization certification (OCE) and while getting certified is more about learning the material and not as much about just getting the certificate, a little extra paper and an additional title never hurt, right?
While those are my opinions, it really boils down to your own personal preference. How comfortable are you with SQL? How hard are you willing to study to learn the material? Are you in it to learn the material or simply to cruise through and get your certifications done as fast as possible (I hope not...)?
Either exam will fulfill the criteria as your SQL test in whatever cert path you are working towards. If you're SQL knowledge is "basic" as you said, then you have to decide whether you want the quick cert (Fundamentals) or whether you're willing to put in the time to learn it better before going for the Expert exam.
Good luck with whatever path you choose!

  • IZ0-047 vs. IZ0-047

    Hi!
I've been doing some research on how to become a Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate. One of the ways to achieve this is to pass IZ0-047 Oracle Database SQL Expert + IZ0-047 Program with PL/SQL. What I don't understand is:
How is it possible for two exams to have the same number (IZ0-047)? Is this actually just one exam?
I saw that there is a book for this exam, but it only covers the Oracle Database SQL Expert exam, so this also left me wondering. How could one prepare for  Program with PL/SQL?
I tried Googling the difference between the two, but nothing came up. Sorry if this is has already been resolved, I couldn't find it.

    (i mean 10g -10.1 version and 10g 10.2 version)

Edited by: to_learn on Sep 14, 2011 7:07 AMIn general it is better to learn the latest version that is available unless you have a need to study a lower version because that is what is being supported (or you need it for a certification exam).
And in general te facilities of an older version is superset of the older version ... but the are exceptions, however for PL/SQL here is generally the case.
In your case ... 1z0-147 ... is orientated towards oracle 9i and has a slight tendency to reference its use in Oracle Forms. In fact this exam is an update of exams from earlier PL/SQL versions.
There is an altenative exam available, 1z0-144 which is orientated towards Oracle 10g/11g PL/SQL. From where you are at i would seriously consider whether you would be better following that exam.
While studying the PL/SQL 10g document for the 1z0-147 exam will be generally appropriate, ...
HOWEVER ... you may find one or two questions in the 1z0-147 exam that from a PL/SQL 10g2 Viewpoint the question may seem inappropriate or possibly the 'best' answer(s) would note be the same as for 9i PL/SQL. The best may to do this is to note any 'new features' since 9i to 10gR2.
If this all seems a little confusing the best thing to do is to take 1z0-144.
And if you still wish to take 1z0-147 learn wha you think you need to first and then review the new features.
I personally think this is yet another reason why 1z0-147 should be retired (as well as 9i DBA OCx) as the online manuals for it are now no longer available ... but hey wait they are still available and candidate has been unable to find them. What a plonker I am. Candidate still persuing mission to 1z0-147 should view one of:
    http://www.oracle.com/pls/db92/db92.homepage
    http://www.oracle.com/pls/db92/db92.docindex?remark=homepage
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/appdev.920/a96624.pdf
... though I sometimes wonder if i am being walked the walk .......
WRT the other thread you resurrected {thread:id=2283405} 72404 was me in an earlier incarnation and this should answer that as well as far as i am going to.

  • Mail can't send email from 123-reg accounts

    Hi all,
I've got an issue with Mac Mail can’t send email from 123-reg accounts.
I know there is a lot of articles on simular matters and some I have tried out with no luck, others are just speaking a whole other language.
Any help would be greatly recived, here's my situation below:
    Running a iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core i5 on OS X 10.8.3
I’m using 3 accounts on Macs Mail client, one is my iCloud account that is working fine and the other two are my 123-reg accounts that I use for business purposes. I’ve been working like this for a couple of years now and about 6 months ago I upgrade my operating system from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
2 or 3 months ago I randomly got a problem where I was unable to send any emails from my 123-reg account, I could only receive emails. I checked my settings and they were all correct and unchanged so I attempted to delete them and recreate the account but with no such luck.
I then decided to check if it was a problem at 123-regs end and attempted to log into web mail. This worked and was able to both send and receive emails so eliminated that possibility.
I also have these accounts set up on my iPhone, so checked if there was any issues and everything was working fine. I then checked my iphone details and made sure the same was on my desktop and still no such luck.
I’ve tried out some of the articles I’ve found on here (the ones written in plain English) still no results. I’m not very IT illiterate and just wondered if anyone else has got any ideas, whether there is something specific with 123-reg accounts and Mac Mail?
    Many thanks.

    Thanks
I just had another hunt around looking at posts and discovered that it was because I recently changed to BT Infinity and they had a block on.
I didn't even think to question the ISP.
